  1. 64.25.36.88 is correct for the auth entry. But, his game client is not getting to the point where it matters yet.

I believe the GM45 is capable of running City of Heroes with the appropriate drivers.

Did you use the Intel Driver Update Utility to update your drivers?

If you are seeing a message like:

    Quote:
Detected video card or driver is currently unsupported {videoCard}.
The game may run poorly or not at all with you current configuration.
Current system requirements are NVidia GeForce 2 or better, ATI Radeon 8500 or better, or an Intel GMA 900 or better.
(If your card does meet the minimum requirements, you might not have the latest drivers. Go to www.nvidia.com, www.ati.com, or www.intel.com to update your driver. In some cases, such as laptops, you may need to get the latest drivers from your computer manufacturer.)
then using -useTexEnvCombine will not help. That message means the game did not detect the minimum features needed to run. These features are exposed to the game via the installed OpenGL drivers which are part of the installed video card drivers.

Which Dell laptop with which Intel Mobile integrated graphics chipset?
  4. And you've logged in to your account and updated your game password as mentioned in Zwillinger's message that Texas Justice linked to?
  5. I would suspect a video driver issue.
  6. The previous issue (I20) was working fine for you with the 280 drivers? If so, I would go back to the 280 drivers.
  7. It is possible that this is an issue with the NVIDIA display driver.

Odd, the latest driver I found for your NVIDIA 260M (note the M for mobile/notebook) has a version of 280.26 and a release date of 2011.08.09, but your drivers are dated:

    Driver Version: 8.17.12.8527
    Driver Date: 09/10/2011 13:37:00

which corresponds to a version of 285.27. So, you should try re-installing your video drivers from here:

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/noteboo...ql-driver.html

EDIT: I see that the 285.27 are the BETA NVIDIA display drivers. You should still see if the latest non-BETA drivers work better for you.
  8. Can you add -console to your "Extra Command Line Parameters (Advanced)" (right click on the game in NCSOFT Launcher and select Properties) and run the game (will not fix anything, but provides more information) and copy and paste the results here after you get stuck?

You can click on the upper-left corner of the console window (on the City of Heroes Icon in the title bar) and do Edit->Select All and then Edit->Copy to copy the contents of the console window.

Also, does using -noverify in the "Extra Command Line Parameters (Advanced)" allow the game to run?

  11. If you've come here to the forums expecting technical assistance from NCSoft or Paragon Studios, you should take note of this forum description.

Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs
Discuss gameplay / technical issues or bugs here! This is NOT a forum where official technical/QA support is available. For technical assistance email support@coh.com.

That said, there are plenty of helpful players who may help you if you provide the appropriate information (See this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=231628 )
  12. Have you tried filing a support ticket?

Or, any of the suggestions here?

  13. With VSync enabled, if your system cannot handle 60FPS, it will drop to 30FPS to avoid tearing. That's what VSync does. The next drop down from 30FP would be 15FPS, then 12FPS, then 10FPS (all common denominators of 60, your refresh rate).

So, if your system would run at 55FPS without VSync enabled, with VSync enabled, it will drop down to 30FPS to avoid tearing.

Edit: My point being the new graphics updates to Atlas Park may not account for all of your loss of performance. The updated Atlas Park may be only 10% slower than the old Atlas Park. But, in combination with VSync, that may force your frame-rate down to 30FPS.

I would recommend adjusting your graphics settings and seeing if you can do some small tweaks to get your FPS back above 60.
  14. Do you have vertical sync (VSync) enabled?
  15. How are you starting the game? If you made a shortcut to CityOfHeroes.exe and added those command line arguments to the Target, it looks like you didn't get them right.

If you are using NCsoft Launcher, did you add anything to the Extra Command Line Parameters when you right click on the game in the Launcher and select Properties?

You could also try filing a support ticket.
  16. Have you opened a support ticket?

You know as much as I do what happened yesterday, while not a breach of contract, shouldn't have happened and that many in your player base were inconvenienced. As I'm reading the terms of service, nowhere does it state that you absolutely cannot make reparations, only that you are not legally obligated to. Do the right thing and consider making things right for the folks that pay your bills.
I agree that making and maintaining an MMO is not rocket science. I should know. I've worked on life-critical software systems for the Space Station and Space Shuttle. Even with all of the reviews and testing that goes on in changes to the Mission Control Center software, one of the software changes introduced by one of my colleagues forced the delay of a shuttle launch.

Things break. Bad things happen. We try to fix them as best we can. Life goes on.
  21. I am not a lawyer, don't play one on TV or any other medium, and my statements here do not constitute any kind of legal advice.

    But, looking over the EULA:

"MEMBERSHIP FEES AND FEES FOR ADDITIONAL FEATURES ARE PAYABLE IN ADVANCE AND ARE NOT REFUNDABLE IN WHOLE OR IN PART (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, PAYMENT USING NCCOIN) FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, INTERRUPTION OR UNAVAILABILITY OF SERVICE (SEE ALSO SECTION 10 BELOW)."

    10. INTERRUPTION OF SERVICE

    (a) NC Interactive reserves the right to interrupt the Service from time to time on a regularly scheduled basis or otherwise with or without prior notice in order to perform maintenance. You agree that NC Interactive will not be liable for any interruption of the Service, delay or failure to perform resulting from any causes whatsoever.

    (b) You acknowledge that the Service may be interrupted for reasons beyond the control of NC Interactive, and NC Interactive cannot guarantee that you will be able to access the Service or your Account whenever you may wish to do so. NC Interactive shall not be liable for any interruption of the Service, delay or failure to perform resulting from any causes whatsoever.

    (c) NC Interactive has the right at any time for any reason or no reason to change and/or eliminate any aspect(s) of the Service as it sees fit in its sole discretion.

    (d) NC Interactive shall not be obligated to refund all or any portion of any Account fee or Additional Feature fee by reason of any interruption of the Service by reason of any of the circumstances described in paragraph (a) or (b).
  22. It would have been helpful to run a tool to see what the GPU utilization was when you ran the tests. If they are not being maxed out (sitting idle >50% of the time), then your system is not able to feed data fast enough to the GPU and your bottleneck is elsewhere (CPU, hard-drive, memory, etc).

Also, did you have vertical sync (vsync) in the game options enabled?
  23. You might be able to do a 'Repair' to get all of the files individually instead of the large initial install patch.

If the Launcher won't let you do a 'Repair', shut it down, create the C:\Program Files\NCsoft\City of Heroes folder and then put a version.ini file there with:

    Quote:
    [Settings]
    Version=1.1.1
and then fire up the Launcher and have it do a repair.
  24. It sounds like your game is not up-to-date. In the NCSoft Launcher, make sure the circle to the left of the game is green. If, not, right-click on the game and select "Update" or "Repair (Consistency Check)". The update should be faster, but if you show a green light, then try the Repair.

Also, you can right click on the game and select Properties and see what your local version of the game is in relation to the patch server version and make sure they are the same.
