So, when can we expect your "first born child to Crey corporation for experimental augmentation"?
  2. It is the same (well, slightly newer version) User Agreement that you have been agreeing to in the City of Heroes Updater. If you had read the User Agreement presented in the Updater, you would see that it also mentions NCCoin. So, this is not 'new'.

It is presented in the game now due to the transition to support NCsoft Launcher.

    Are your graphics drivers up-to-date?

    That should be:

    -uiskin 2

in the "Extra Command Line Parameters (Advanced)" section.
  5. Have you tried the game's safe-mode?
  6. Try this:

    "C:\Progam Files (x86)\NCSoft\Launcher\NCLauncher.exe" /LaunchGame=euCoHTest

    with the quotes.
  7. I believe if you copy cohupdater.eu.exe to cohupdater.exe (so you have both), but still use cohupdater.eu.exe, then it may work.

Also, have you tried using the Launcher?

You should try reducing the graphics quality in the game.

This is definitely a problem with your video card drivers. Try running one of the driver sweeper tools to remove all remnants of the old driver before installing the new driver.

    Help Please

I'm not 100% sure this will work, but it's worth a try.

In your C:\Program Files (x86)\CoHTest\ directory, I assume you have a cohupdater.eu.exe file. Make a copy of the file and name the new file cohupdater.exe.

So, you should have both cohupdater.eu.exe and cohupdater.exe in your C:\Program Files (x86)\CoHTest\ directory.

Now, you already have a shortcut to cohupdater.eu.exe with the "-test" on it. Try that shortcut again.

There are a few newer versions of the video card driver that you could try.

You could also try the game's safe mode (checkbox next to the "I Agree" button at the "USER AGREEMENT" page.
  13. What kind of frame rate do you get with "Advanced Graphics Settings" disabled and "Graphics Quality" set to Ultra?

Extremely high FSAA settings (above 4x) and Ambient Occlusion put the most load on the GPU. The higher shadow settings, higher water effects, and higher Environmental Reflections put lots of load on both the GPU and CPU. Also, the World Detail (and to a much lesser degree, the Character Detail) will affect both the CPU and GPU load (probably more on the CPU than GPU).

A couple of more notes: make sure you hit "Apply Now" after making changes and also make sure you close the settings window before looking at your frame rate. Having the graphics settings window open can reduce your frame rate.

I've no clue what it is up to, the NCsoft support knowledgebase has nothing on the error, it might possibly be because my version numbers are too backdated for it. If I were driven enough, I might debug my way through the obstacle. But I really can't be bothered. I rather not play the game and save money by not subscribing.

You could also try the 'Repair (Consistency Check)' option in the pick list when you right click on the game name in the Launcher.
  15. If your contacts window does not crash the game with the game's safe mode enabled, then I would suggest you check your graphics drivers and your graphics settings.

There have been reports in other threads of the same problem and some people have been able to resolve the problem by reducing or disabling the water effects in the graphics settings.

  16. I see on Amazon's page for that laptop that someone states: "They switched the roles of the Function keys (f1, f2, etc) so that their primary finction is not to act as a function key. Normally on a laptop there is a fn key, and if you push fn+f1 it does something like brighten the screen or increase the volume. these roles are now backwards, so to use the f4 key you have to push fn+f4. so to exit a program, its alt+fn+f4."

I went to HP's website and found the manual here:

    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02100456.pdf

and browsed through it and in the section on "Using the Keyboard" starting on page 26, it states:

"NOTE: The action key feature is enabled at the factory. You can disable this feature in Setup Utility. If this feature is disabled in Setup Utility, you must press fn and an action key to activate the assigned function. Refer to the "Setup Utility (BIOS)" chapter."

So, it looks like you can change this behavior in the BIOS setting of your laptop by reading the fine manual from HP.

  17. The more information you can provide about your specific problem, the more likely the people here on the forum will be able to help you.

What is the model number of the HP laptop?
Which "special F keys" are giving you problems?
What is the model of the USB logitech keyboard?

It also isn't normal lag. It's hard to explain but I have had normal lag and this is just completely different. I'm not sure if it's a graphic issue at all.

On an off note, I run rikti raids and never had a problem before. Heck, I used to play the game on a 4400.

I wouldn't really be asking about it if it was something that was always there or was constant but it was not there when I played 10 months ago and I have not changed my graphics settings so it makes no logical sense for it to be there now due to graphics. It also doesn't always happen in response to intense graphics. I ran a rikti raid today without it happening. But yesterday I ran a solo mish and it happened just walking down an empty hall. It's like everything slows down, not just the graphics.

I cannot install service packs. I have always got an error with it and the one time I went to Microsofts help page to have that fixed I was given advice that basically nearly trashed my computer. I've really never found any help on how to solve that problem.
Issue 17, which was released about 10 months ago, included many graphics engine changes to the game. I don't know if you stopped playing before or after the release of I17.

If you try running the game with minimal graphics settings and your problem persists, then we can definitely conclude that the problem is not graphics related. If you try running the game with minimal graphics settings and your problem goes away, then we can conclude that your problem is definitely graphics related.
  19. First thing to try would be to update your video card drivers

    Driver Date/Size: 9/27/2009 23:12:22, 9441384 bytes
  20. And make sure you are using a fairly recent video card driver.
  21. Ah, I missed that it is a GeForce Go series. Try this:

    Product Type: GeForce
Product Series: GeForce Go 7 Series (Notebooks)
    Product: GeForce 7950 GTX
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
    Language: (Whatever you prefer)

It looks like version 7.15.11.7948 (Release 179.48) is the latest version available for your hardware.

Have you tried the game's safe mode?
  22. Go to the NVidia "Download Drivers" page here:

    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Use Option 1 and fill it out as below:

    Product Type: GeForce
    Product Series: GeForce 7 Series
    Product: GeForce 7950 GT
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
    Language: (Whatever you prefer)

Click the green "SEARCH" button and you should see the "GEFORCE/ION DRIVER RELEASE 260". Download and run the file.

If it still shows up as the old driver version, try uninstalling the old drivers, rebooting, and running a driver cleaner (like Driver Sweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/) before re-installing the drivers.
  23. Your display drivers are not installed properly

    Monitor:
    Monitor's Max Resolution: (blank)
    Video Device Name:
    Manufacturer / Chip: /
    Video Memory: n/a

    Driver Language:

    According to this page:

    http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-m11x/pd

the Alienware M11x has a NVIDIA GT335M GeForce. You should be able to go to www.nvidia.com and click on the "Download Drivers" and set the "Product Series" to "GeForce 300M Series (Notebooks)", set the "Product" to "GeForce GT 335M", set your "Operating System" to "Windows 7 64-bit" and hit the "SEARCH" button to find the latest drivers.

If you are unable to install these drivers, go to Dell's website and find their support section and enter in the laptop's service tag id and look for the latest Video drivers there.

Also, once you've updated your video drivers, if you continue to have problems, please try the "Safe Mode" option (checkbox shown next to the "I Agree" button at the User Agreement) and reset your graphics options.
  24. Does this happen at all graphics settings? (Disable Advanced Graphics and try the game with the Graphics Quality slider at each setting).

    help?

Two things you should update are your Operating System and video card drivers:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.100216-1441)

Video Device Name: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500
Manufacturer / Chip: NVIDIA / GeForce FX 5500
    Video Memory: 128.0 MB
    Driver Version: 6.14.0010.9131
    Driver Date: 6/1/2006 4:22:00 PM
    Driver Language: English

Use Windows Update to update your OS to XP Service Pack 3 and NVidia does have newer drivers (dated 2008) for your GeForce FX 5500.
