Keyboard Laptop Problems
There should be either an F-Lock key, or an Fn button that should disable/enable those special functions.
As for getting the other keyboard to work.. if it detected it and installed drivers, it seems it should be working. You can have more than one active mouse or keyboard at a time. It's not a matter of choosing one over the other.

I have and fn button but only thing I can seem to do with it is hold it down and press the F keys to make them do other stuff I don't want them to.
Should i just give up because i really don't see me ever getting to use a better keyboard if the response I get no matter where I look or who I ask is it should just be plug and play.
I also know that I did not say people had already told me that here. I have said it elsewhere and it really drives me nuts when I tell someone I have tried one thing over and over and it refuses to work and their only response is well that should work.

They're saying "It works when I do it." But, of course, they're not using your laptop. Maybe there's a hidden setting. Maybe that model has some peculiarity of hardware or software. Maybe something you installed a year ago borked a setting. Maybe the manufacturer just didn't adhere to industry standards. I'm not an expert on HP laptops so I can't offer any advice.

The more information you can provide about your specific problem, the more likely the people here on the forum will be able to help you.
What is the model number of the HP laptop?
Which "special F keys" are giving you problems?
What is the model of the USB logitech keyboard?

All 1-10 because they are used in game and every single one is some short of shortcut.
Will answer later.
Thanks Tex. Hope that helps.
I see on Amazon's page for that laptop that someone states: "They switched the roles of the Function keys (f1, f2, etc) so that their primary finction is not to act as a function key. Normally on a laptop there is a fn key, and if you push fn+f1 it does something like brighten the screen or increase the volume. these roles are now backwards, so to use the f4 key you have to push fn+f4. so to exit a program, its alt+fn+f4."
I went to HP's website and found the manual here:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02100456.pdf
and browsed through it and in the section on "Using the Keyboard" starting on page 26, it states:
"NOTE: The action key feature is enabled at the factory. You can disable this feature in Setup Utility. If this feature is disabled in Setup Utility, you must press fn and an action key to activate the assigned function. Refer to the "Setup Utility (BIOS)" chapter."
So, it looks like you can change this behavior in the BIOS setting of your laptop by reading the fine manual from HP.

Ok I have a new HP laptop and all the f keys have some special functions so I can not use them in-game. I have tried every search I can think of in the control panel and can't find anyway to disable it.
So my next thing was to try plugging in my wireless logitech keyboard with a USB and it will not work and the only thing I can find on the laptop to change keyboards has nothing at all to switching to an external keyboard.
The logitech shows up in the device manager, the computer says it is detecting it and the first time I plugged it in that it successfully installed the drivers.
I would love to use the other keyboard because then I have a number pad but the special F keys are driving me nuts.
