You don't have to be a slave to concept if you use a bit of creativity, especially in the age of power customisation.

Is it the rock armour that fits the concept? How about having an alternate costume that uses the stone textures, and then picking a powerset equally suitable (like invuln) that you don't dislike playing?
  3. Hey, thanks for reviewing Mercytown.

I found out that the arc has gone a bit wonky with the GR update, so I'm glad that you didn't encounter any weird errors because of that.
  4. I noticed a small influx of new players to Union from the few weeks before GR. I haven't checked how many people in Praetoria are new as I've been too distracted with all the shiny, but on the night of the soft-launch the tutorial zone was filled with returning players I haven't seen for ages.

A good point CEM. They made Demons as magic as you can get and that still went through, and I know I'm not the only one that explained away my demons in being technological in origin regardless.

    Mage-punk armour anyone?
  6. Just so we're clear, players aren't expected to solo bosses: the option is there for those that wish to do so.

That being said the easiest way for you to deal with a boss is to pick up and slot Ice Arrow, as a mezzed boss is a defenseless boss. Also I would highly recommend using Glue Arrow over Entangling, as then the mobs waste time running around instead of going straight for their ranged attacks.

Archery deals solid ST damage, so I'm not sure where the damage issues are coming from. Have you slotted your 3 ST attacks with 3 damage SOs each?
  7. I can't be the only one thinking (or rather hoping) this. Wrist mounted flamethrowers, blasters, and shoulder cannons? If that doesn't scream POWAH ARMOUR I don't know what does.

Maybe this is just the start, like how Cimm was the initial introduction of shield defence hmm?
  8. As mentioned this is a matter of taste, but I find that fire's ability to make things dead quick to make it the most fun. This is especially so with the 1-2 combo of dropping down a freezing rain and then rain of fire and just watching the double scourge bonus roll in, which is even better in teams.

Fire is also less end heavy in the sense that you need less attacks to defeat a mob. It lacks mitigation when soloing as a trade-off, but then as a stormy you're going to have boatloads of that.
  9. Ow that does sound bad. I'll be sure to test my own arcs thanks.

I'm not calling /pain a bad set, and this isn't a case of min/max uberage. Rather this is about knowing that you're trying to solo the game with one arm tied behind your back for most of your char's career, since a large portion of /pains powers including its ultimate buff are all ally-based.

It's funny because I'm writing this after just responding to your own thread complaining /pain sux soloing.
  11. For all those countless hours I spend making the "perfect" build, the times when I open the database and discover new things about powers I have never known before, and for the times when I was just bored and ended up messing around in Mid's.

    Thank you St0n3y.

    There's your problem right there.

You're soloing with two of the most team focused secondaries corrs get, with blasts dealing mediocre damage that are likely to be adding to your frustration.

Dark, rad, storm and and to a lesser extent kin are better soloing secondaries. Dark, rad and kin also have a self-heal if that's what you've been after playing therm and pain.

Regardless of what combo you picked though, please let it be a wild exaggeration that you need to resort to demonic on normal diff...

Why play Pain only to solo? There are many better solo secondaries out there.
  14. Most vills don't take them, as the long recharge time combined with their mortality rate (about the same as a dom or controller pet) can make it hard to justify the power and slot investment.

That said they are up more than they are down if you slot for recharge, gives support chars something to throw their buffs on when they solo, and can be slotted for some good set bonuses.

Hands down the best pet is the mu pet for doms, as that both blasts and heals. Following that is any other pet that exclusively blasts since being at range significantly increases their life expectancy, so that's all the other mu pets plus the fortunata mistress that corrs get, and having a psi pet can be handy in certain situations.
  15. Thanks for the heads up. Guess I'll port some of my missions over to test to see if anything breaks.
  16. This is awesome stuff. Before this I was trying to figure out how to work around the system for dopplegangers, but now we get them and with so many varieties no less.

Big thanks to the devs for this one, and I already have 2 arcs in mind that can use this.

    Brute Maturity

I usually find my brutes are rolling once they get stam, or the moment I get QR in the case of WP.

Are you saturating your RttC? WP is a very sturdy set when the conditions are right, unless you are simply biting off way more than you can chew.
  20. You're not going to have any appreciable defence with a fire/kin until you start slotting for sets--which is something that you usually do late in a char's career.

Really for someone who admits to immediately retiring chars the moment they hit 50, I would suggest something that deals AoE and have good defences straight out of the box. Melee ATs and MMs in other words, and to a lesser extent crab spiders.

Generally I would agree, but once you start getting into the high-performance territory of massive recharge, and all toggles + fighting pool that brutes are wont to do, then endurance becomes an issue again.

My guess is that players that can keep their end under control through IOs will probably stick with soul mastery. For those who don't have the inf or would rather focus on other set bonuses, energy mastery becomes a very convenient pool indeed.
  22. I mostly play villains, and so I'm planning to make a new brute and corr to go blueside with just for the change of scenery.

That said I'm planning to bring the corr back over to the red-side, as I <3 my scorp shields.
  23. I think its safe to say that brutes really got the better end of the deal when it came to the epic pool proliferation.
  24. Thanks for all the responses so far.

I don't consider the power order to be an issue for me, since while it would be cool to get sleet/executioner's etc. sooner, I blow through the levels so fast anyway (8 man teams will do that--yes, even on redside I have little issue fielding teams).

With such a huge pro-corr response I'm leaning towards that route now, though you have made some good points Deacon.
