What's the best Primary to pair with Pain if one mostly plays solo? I was thinking Fire or Rad. Any thoughts?

Soloing and/or teaming, Sonic/ works well also due to the -res and foe sleep in Siren's Song.

Thanks, guys! I'll try Sonic as I know there are LOTS of Fire corruptors out there.

I know it is an unloved set, but for solo work I love my Energy/Pain Corr. All the KB helps a ton.

For soloing Energy is actually really, really good. The knockback is huge mitigation.

Unfortunately for teaming it is often abused.

Because some people actually play a game to play a character, not to watch meaningless numbers march up the screen.

Defeated by your own argument. Character =/= numbers, hence why get upset if he picks something that allows him to play the game more easily?

I'm not calling /pain a bad set, and this isn't a case of min/max uberage. Rather this is about knowing that you're trying to solo the game with one arm tied behind your back for most of your char's career, since a large portion of /pains powers including its ultimate buff are all ally-based.

It's funny because I'm writing this after just responding to your own thread complaining /pain sux soloing.

If someone's planing to make a character based on a theme, the flashy, distinctive effects of a primary are far more important character-wise than the secondary. Hell, thanks to recoloring, you can make Rad, Dark, Pain and Emp look pretty damn similar.

I love my Sonic/Pain Corr solo. But I made him when Pain was released and within a couple of days teaming he was 38. And that was when I started soloing him. The powers you can actually benefit don't come till much later and there are only 4 of them. So you will be leaning heavily on Sonics for damage mitigation. Soloing from level 1 looks kind of painful untill you can get your Siren's Song (lvl 18) and Screech (lvl 26).

Way to many alts.
