  1. Some builds will be tighter than others depending on the primary but Panzer does bring up a valid point in using the secondary build to alternate between a soloing or team build. I think Imp's suggestions for certain powers by the 30s gives enough flexibility to still come up with something close (if not) the build you want to take through to 50 or until you level lock the toon.

    Requirements:
    - Accelerate Metabolism at level 4
    - any 2 of [Radiation Infection, Radiant Aura, Envervating Field, Lingering Radiation] prior to level 20 and should have RI, EF and LR by 30th
    - any 2 of Maneuvers, Assault, Tactics prior to level 24(?)
    - AoE attack as early as available
    - be friendly and have fun!

    Optional/recommended:
    - Hasten (highly recommended)
    - Fallout and Choking Cloud (not available till 35th/28th)
    - It would be nice if we had a couple people (or not too many) with: Grant Invisibility, Vengeance, Mutation, Recall Friend

Note that Stamina is not needed when teamed so is not recommended.
My alt has been created but I'm still in the process of working out build(s) that I'm satisfied with.
  2. Sign me up for the radiation goodness with any side being fine with me. Time to come up with a name....

I'm pleased to report that we had another successful run with a veteran team that came together. It only took 2 hrs for the win.

The entire run went very well with the only "Uh-oh" moment coming when Scirocco EMPed and put two of the squishies into the red but all turned out well.

    Without further adieu, the team:

    Le Baron (Stone/Fire tank)
    Alber d'Arc (Emp/Nrg defender)
    Lil Lexie (FF/Psychic defender)
    Mystic Fusion (Rad/Dark defender)
    Hyper Sonja (Kin/Dark defender)
    Sonoluminescent (Sonic/Ice blaster)
    Leech Hawk (Ice/Nrg blaster)
    Creepy Sonja (Plant/Kin troller)

I made the boneheaded mistake and lost my team pic (starting to get habitual). Hopefully, another one can be found and posted to the MoSTF photobucket album.

*Update: Thanks to Lil Lexie for providing a team pic for posting to the MoSTF photobucket album.

It was good to team with several long timers as it made for an 'easy' run though two on the team had not run an MoSTF before. Several people got the achievement badge knocked out for their alts so hearty congratulations! Looking forward to the next run.

    MSTF

So another midnight owl run (after midnight pacific time) got fired up for MoSTF. Had to recruit some off the usual global channels (STF Masters, Vigilance, ProWatch, Protector TFs) but was able to fill the last 3 spots quickly. Our total time to finish was 3hr25min.

This was one of the oddest MoSTF runs I've been a part of which I'll explain further on. We had for the most part an experienced team but since we picked up some randoms who may or may not have been familiar with the run style. We had one who has never ran an STF before so some time was spent on prepwork for various phases throughout the tf. We had had no issues at all in the vine room, inner AVs, flier, tower/LR.

However, we did deal with disconnects from each member of the team in the last mission. The team experienced a few 'jeebus' moments. The first dc's happened when taking on our 2nd inner AV (Scirocco). He was at half health and the emp and I (on WP tank) disconnect and had to go through re-verifies but to my relief, I relogged on and saw the team made it through without us.

Our next dc happened with our regen scrapper in melee range of Mako who was somewhere at mid health. As he was in inert state, he got aoe'ed by Mako and went orange and I believe he had tp prompt on. We lucked out that he finally dc'ed. He came back on with dread hoping he would not find a bunch of angry teammates around his fallen body.

During the tower phase, the first two towers went down without a hitch and then we had Protector, Embress and Fantasy dc and reverify at various points taking down the last two. Finally, we started working on LR and when we got him down to half health, we lose Megabolt to a dc and a reverify so we wait it out (good thing before the bane spawn). When he relogs back on and realizes we're waiting for him, we get a "tytytytytyty!"

Then we get back to working LR over and when he brings on his bane spawn, Scrappy dc's. Jeebus! LR is on the closer end of dropping and we make the decision to hold out for Scrappy but it was rough as aggro management becomes tenuous for me. Thank goodness for dual PA and quick heals. I'm sure we're all hoping that Scrappy makes it back in a hurry. Luckily, LR's banes despawn and holding aggro became a lot easier.

And finally, Scrappy makes it back and LR and a subsequent bane spawn are finished off for the MoSTF win. A 3.5hr run is long but despite the issues of the last mission and a couple of inexperienced players, we all coordinated well and completed successfully. Excellent work everyone!

    So hearty congratulations to...

    Protector 2814 (FF/Nrg troller)
    Diosa Dementia (Ill/Emp troller)
    Dr-Cryonix (Elec/Regen scrapper)
    Mr. Fantasy (Ill/Rad troller)
Embress (Fire/Rad troller) <-- Happy birthday!
    Megabolt (Nrg/Nrg blaster)
Scrappy Freeze (Cold/Ice defender) <-- welcome back Scrappy!
    Deklan Purifier (Wp/Axe tanker)

Everybody on the team received the Master of STF achievement badge with a couple getting the whole run of the badge (diplomat, heatseeker, saved the world, etc).

Congratulations everyone and looking forward to the next run.

So here's hoping that some of the gurus around here can at least point me in the right direction, because I'm a little bit lost with my tank, who turned 50 and then got extremely boring to play. Survivability is an issue, yes, but I'd like to focus on DPS if it's at all possible, with the travel power being either SJ or SS. I'd also like to stick with Energy Mastery for both concept and utility, though really it's because Energy Torrent is a great way to knock baddies down while Whirling Hands is recharging. I realize that I haven't given you all a lot to work with...

... and I promise to keep messing with Mids until it makes sense.
I revisited my Invuln/EM w/Energy Mastery a couple of issues ago and took on the project of updating her to IO sets. Fortunately for us, we have the benefit of respeccing a lvl50 toon that we have played and not a situation where we are building a roadmap for a new tanker project using powers we're not familiar with.

In the case of EM, the heavy hitters are still Energy Transfer and Total Focus but you'll likely want to take Bonecrusher and Barrage is mandatory. Since EM has only 1 aoe attack (Whirling Hands), I took that power as well which allows me to slot a PBAoE set.

Now you mentioned that you'd like to focus on dps which might mean things like increasing global recharge (so that your attacks come up faster) or increasing damage (by obtaining damage bonuses through IO sets). It also provides clues as to the powers you may want to additionally add/keep like Hasten and Buildup. Its at this point where I recommend you posting your existing build so forum members so you can have some discussion to get you going where you want to go. People are going to ask whether or not you like to solo or team exclusively. What do you like to do? Be lead tank for tfs such as MoSTF? Do you exemplar often?

Some folks may feel embarrassed about posting their builds even if its purely SOs, still have 6-slotted Hasten and 6-slotted Stamina. I still have a few alts like those stuck in the closet from pre-ED that I will eventually get to updating. My Inv/EM was one of them.

So getting back to general build comments, I focused on updating my Inv/EM tanker for survivability first and damage second while trying to keep the build relatively inexpensive (no purples or procs). One of the best things you can do is familiarize yourself with set bonuses. Playing with Mids (View Totals window) will help you see the numbers. One note to keep in mind...once you start getting into IO set bonuses, you need to remember the Rule of 5. More info on that here... http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Rule_o...e_Law_of_Fives

    MSTF

Well its been a few since somebody has posted to this thread especially in light of the new issue release, seasonal event. Have been concentrating on running MoReichs/MoITF quite a bit lately. However, last night/early morning, finally got that chance to do a MoSTF. We started a little after midnight pacific time so it was a night owl run heh heh.

I'd say half the team was 'experienced' and the other half just getting their feet wet so that meant taking some time to do prep work at various points on the tf....such as the vine room, inner AVs, tower phase, etc etc. Our time to finish was basically 4 hrs (eep!) but it was a winner!

I believe everyone on the team got the Master badge with several getting the whole run (diplomat, peerless, heatseeker, saved the world).

    So hearty congratulations to...

    Burned Faceless (stone/fire tanker)
    Ridgey Didge (fire/kin troller)
    Dr-Apocalypse (regen scrapper)
    Satanna (fire/rad troller)
    Sabel Nyte (dark/elec defender)
    Ms. Wonka (emp/rad defender)
    Seismic Cloudess (earth/storm troller)
    Vik Volcanic (earth/thermal troller)

Everybody did a great job of teamwork and coordinating. It was a pretty smooth run and we didn't run into any hiccups at all. We did have to deal with some vines regenerating in the vine room but everybody played it smartly. GW posed no problem at all, just took a bit of time to wear her out. Tower phase went smoothly but took a bit of time with prep work. Such that after the red tower went down, we did a strategic retreat to the ship so that the flier respawn wouldn't catch us in a bad position. All in all, a win albeit a slow one heh.

Note: I'll see if I can get the team pic up to the MoSTF photobucket in the near future.
Update: Here is the link to the team pic http://s537.photobucket.com/albums/f...2-Nov-2009.jpg. Thanks Imp!

Congratulations new badgers and looking forward to the next run.
  7. Just to add my own thoughts to the thread, I am liking the new Martial Arts booster pack purely based on more costume pieces and the Ninja Run power. Anything that helps my lowbies travel throughout the lowbie zones quicker without relying on a raptor pack or a speedboost is win.

I can cope with Ninja Run not stacking with CJ, but at least you can toggle on sprint as well making it feel speedy for low level alts. I think the devs figured people slotting a Stealth IO in Sprint anyway so it stands to reason Sprint + Ninja Run gets you that stealthy ninja feel.

Like some others though, I'm not entirely awed by the martial arts theme for the natural origin but I'm pleased with the new emotes, additional costume pieces (including new weapons) and Ninja Run.

Of course now, people will be left to wonder what possibilities would entail for a Mutant Booster Pack.
  8. The Valkyrie costume set and mission teleporter power will be available to you even if you do not use the Mac game client.

Just be sure to apply the accompanying game code to your existing CoX account so that the new costume set and power is flagged as available for usage by you.
  9. Thats the unfortunate side of things when it comes to product marketing. And you see it in various other industries too. Successful company's will consistently promote their product even during lean times but smaller companies are more susceptible to budget cuts or simply devoting resources to more current projects rather than continue to promote something 'older'.

Anyways, moving away from economics and business practices, I don't think Massively hate's CoX, but rather in general, are checking out the latest such as CO which means higher exposure currently about their bugs/patches/etc.

I can think of a couple of the editors there who did play CoX are taking CO out for spins which mean they leverage their time invested into perpective pieces for Massively. Worry not, the chrome will wear off and something new will come along. Thats just business.
  10. I favor Science and Technology origins myself based on my affinity creating backstories of that nature. Though I do try and use the other origin types with mutation being the least used.

In the back of my mind, based on popularity by DO/SO enhancement availability on the market I tend to think Magic and Mutation are the top origins.
  11. With regards to the new banner events for Halloween 2009, I've enjoyed it overall but your mileage may vary. A lot of it may have to do with the overall tendencies of your particular server. Some may have a higher percentage of 'me first' and may be difficult for the soloers or casual gamers to get all the badges on one go-round.

I've been fortunate enough to get a few alts of mine all 6 of the banner badges and it does take coordination and a willingness by those in the zone to cooperate. I think when the Halloween event first started, you saw a lot of one and done especially the hardcore badgers not wanting to take a chance of losing out on the badge on their mains. However, I'm guessing that once people start getting these badges on alts there will hopefully be 'more a spirit of helping others get them'. Course I could be delusional.

To provide a different contrast to those offered in the thread, I think the banner event is a nice addition to what the devs have going. There are defeat x (such as zombies, witches) badges available, as well as for attaining costumes, hunt Unseelies, Jack in Chains (Iron Warrior) and when you take them all into consideration, there's a lot to do either solo or teamed for those new to CoX.

Old timers on average have the benefit of already seeing the earlier stuff and gotten them done on their mains. This may give the taste of the simple addition of the banner event to be less than satisfying. Again, your mileage may vary.

    Random Idea

While I think its a nice thought the OP suggested (maybe post in the Suggestions forum) and certainly, there have been times I wished the leadership numbers were better for certain ATs but its certainly something I can live with.

As for the 'lead' AT in a group the tendency is follow the tank but its not a hard written rule. But generally folks defer to the tank to open the battle. I can't count how many times I've appreciated a skilled tank setting the pace of the group especially when coordinating a tf. This type of coordination can often be seen with those regularly teaming with a core group of players.

Really, most missions don't really need actual leading (as in handing out instructions, prep work) because its generally straight forward. Even most tfs/sfs are like that. However, when you take into account "Master of..." runs, then we're talking a different animal.

For me, when I build a Master TF team I take the role of tf leader seriously which means prepping the team and getting everybody on the same page which is critical for success whether I am a controller or tanker or another AT.

    Statesman TF

My expectation is that an electric armor tank will do well against energy typed attacks because of capped energy resists. I aim to put that to a test when I eventually get my EA/EM tank to 50.

I build all my toons with the expectation of running MoSTFs especially my tankers so its my belief that an EA toon should be capable of handling primary tanking duties. But like others have said, team composition and good players can easily tip the scale so that a win is very likely especially in the department of buffs such as shields from ff, thermal, cold and sonics.
  14. I made an elec/elec tank though only at lvl10 as well I have a little experience with EA because of my lvl50 brute. And that's the interesting thing...based on my experience I had no intention of making another EA toon (see brute forum to get a sense of EA popularity heh).

However, the devs did buff up the tanker version of EA to the point that it will tank anything just fine. The brute version is a bit squishy for my tastes considering LRSF. I went electric melee for thematic purposes but the set has some fun powers, most notably Lightning Rod and Thunder Strike which means an investment in time and effort.

Once Power Sink gets slotted up some (can be up every mob group), you become the energizer bunny that keeps going and going. I expect the end result will be what I had in mind as compared to what I envisioned with my EA brute.
  15. Hitting level 50 for any alt is the primary goal for me and once an alt hits 50, its onto leveling another alt.

That said, I continue to play my 50s on tfs/sfs and each alt will eventually hit the 'complete' milestone after I completely IO them out to my satisfaction (purples are not a requirement).

I do certainly favor certain alts over others but the only difference between them is the level of 'investment' as far as IO sets go.
  16. Oh I've had several n00bilicious moments even after 5 years of playing this game. However, my most recent one was losing "Master of" for my team running on an MoITF run. It was the first mission at the end where the nictus ambush got triggered. I was running my recently minted lvl50 earth/therm troller.

I see the rush coming and said as such in team chat. I also mentioned "be ready to exit as soon as the mission complete shows up". I helped the tank who was taunting the nictus rush by throwing up stone cages and stalagmites but as I was jumping away, my finger slipped off the spacebar and hit the 'n' button on the keyboard. *cringe*

Before I could correct the issue I was plastered by ranged damage from Novas and that was that. =/

I probably lost some points on the respectometer but good thing the team only set Master settings as more of a 'why not' thing with gaining XPs as the primary goal.

Like I said, even 5 year vets have their n00b moments still. I only hope its my last one heh.
  17. 3 Favorites eh?

    1) DM/DA - through every issue release, I've enjoyed this combination and will continue to do so because its the jack of all trades...a little of everything from psi resist, built-in stealth, mez protection, inherent tohit debuffs in attacks, heal powers, endurance gainers, damage and mez auras. WoW! And almost forgot...Midnight Grasp...c'mon tentacles!!

    2) DB/SR - while not everyone is sold on using combos, DB has some great animations that make the set enjoyable to see in action and everybody likes having mobs go *whiff whiff whiff* with SR. However, like pure defense sets...if you don't like to see a sudden drop in hps because an EB/AV just nailed ya go with a resist set.

    3) Fire/Fire - Excellent AoE goodness that is enjoyable thematically and easy to level.
  18. Awesome! Thanks for the updated Mids St0n3y! =)
  19. Much happiness on your birthday Stalemate!

    Axe or Mace?

acemace provides a good info on the two sets and like everybody else who have mentioned, the two are very similar. It really just comes down to your personal preference (toon concept). For me, I ended up making an axe and a mace tanker but with different primaries for overall different feel.

Yea that just might be the case of bizarre. Its the sort of thing that makes you go "Hrm...I gotta test it out because its bugging me" and ask them to group again to do some testing.

    Or...

Feg it. Time to move on heh heh.
  22. Yes it should. But he's faceplanting with two tanks in the group taunting? I'm led to believe one of two things...

    a) he's jumping the gun early and jumping into the group before the tanker taunts take effect.

    b) he's using taunts in his aura/attacks (which I doubt)

You mentioned the scraps have SD (secondary) so are they Shield Charging before the tanks go in? Also, Against All Odds has a taunt mag equivalent to RTTC, but again, either of the tank Taunt should take hold especially if you are taunting everytime it comes up.

Likely, the scrappers are getting aggro before the tanks are.

Now, i know willpower has only a mag 3 taunt aura, compared to all other sets mag 4, but seriously, a lvl 26ish shield scrapper is getting it off me just by entering the mob.

    is it something im doing?
Could be a few things actually...

Are you taunting throughout the fight?

Is the other tank actively taunting and taking aggro? Possibly the scrappers are using confront?

Its definitely no secret that WP has a weaker taunt aura than say Invuln's Invincibility, but you should be able to hold aggro if you are taunting continuously throughout the battle. There might be some 'squirrely-ness' to the mobs as their attention might go elsewhere but they should return back to you.

One other thing to consider is your slotting. I personally like to 6-slot Taunt and drop in either Mocking Beratement or Perfect Zinger (depending on the bonuses you prefer) which will increase the effectiveness of your taunts. Another possibility is to use Taunt enhancers in your attacks or in RTTC.

If you are simply using the base slot of Taunt, you're going to experience this issue a frequently especially with other tanks on the team that may have higher threat ratings than you do.

    Hope this helps.
