Quote:I've been told that "Pass the pizza" doesn't count as "talking".I think what sometimes gets overlooked in debates over Wonder Woman's appearance is that she has, generally, projected a "I don't give a **** what you think I look like" attitude: she looks like that because she wants to look like that, and she would look like that even if she was the last person on Earth. And that resonates. Its not really a bad message to send. They say only Nixon could go to China, and I think only Wonder Woman can be portrayed as attractive as the artists and writers want and few people would question whether she was selling out to men, given the fact she's so often portrayed as thinking of men as pets who can talk.

Quote:I recall my sister quitting because she wasn't having any fun because she was throwing gutterball after gutterball but I was having fun because I was knocking down pins.Something has been bothering me slightly for a while now.
That thing is: Why are so many people obsessed with being rewarded for the time they spend playing City of Heroes?
I see complaints about the drop rate of Incarnate Shards, purples, and any other thing that you get while you're playing, and I can't for the life of me figure out why it is so important that people get these things.
Try something real quick: Think back to when you first started playing the game, and why. I can guarantee that, whatever your reason for playing the game was, it did not involve purple drops or Incarnate Shards. In fact, I would go so far as to say you started playing the game because it was fun.
Now, when I read the forums, it seems that for a lot of people, the amount of fun they have is directly connected to the amount of rewards they get while playing.
Look at anything else you do for enjoyment. Lets say you enjoy bowling, for example. When you go out bowling with your friends, you're going out for the express purpose of going bowling. Having fun while bowling is it's own reward. You don't get upset that you didn't get a trophy for it, you had fun bowling and that was the point of doing it.
Why are video games, and MMOs in particular, so different? You would think that it would be the same. If you go bowling to have fun, why wouldn't you play video games for the same reason?
But I see a lot of people saying that they are playing to get the rewards associated with it, and complaining when they feel that they aren't getting them fast enough. That would be the same thing as going bowling and getting upset that you didn't get a trophy at the end of the night.
What happened to the fun? Why do people feel the need to be rewarded for entertaining themselves? You don't expect a reward from watching TV or a movie. You don't expect a reward for playing catch with your son (or dad, as the case may be). You don't epect a reward for going bowling, or hanging out with your friends. In all of those activities you do to entertain yourself, the fun you have while doing it IS the reward.
Why is a video game so different?
Often "fun" is the reward of an activity but also fun is often predicated upon success of the activity.
Video games are setup like gambling to feed out rewards to create the fun so they are designed to be this way. -
Quote:Let's see what you have taught him:Which wouldn't really change anything now would it? Paying 300K for a piece of common garbage salvage that was 500 yesterday just because someone has too much time on their hands and wants to market pvp only encourages the behavior.
Bottom line, price fixing like that ends up with 3 outcomes. People with more inf than patience pay. Patient people get to wait to have their fun. Little kids get to have their play experience crapped on so some marketeer can go destroy a billion inf to feel special.
They have unlimited access to common IOs in the family base. They are frequently gifted with 5-6 piece sets for characters they really like. When they get a drop they want to do up, its something they can do for themselves to learn to be self sufficient and play the game on their own two feet. Dealing with self centered jerks is just part of life, and this is a good lesson I suppose though I would rather they weren't forced to do it in their leisure time gaming.
1. His wants > other's wants by defining the wants of others as bad and the work of self centered jerks but his wants are perfectly reasonable
2. Variable prices in the markets are always the result of someone being a jerk not any normal market behaviors due to player actions
3. there are conspiracies at work to explain normal behavio
My children just accept things they cannot control and try to solve their problems as best they can with what they can control. -
Well for some being "ebil" is as simple as "using the market in any way that prevents me from getting what I want when I want it for as little as I want to pay for it". And for others it is "having more than me".
But to me it is simply enjoying the market and having enough inf to do what you want. -

Quote:Carnies are big on illusions so you may want to check your drops. For some weird reason, it seems like Carnies have a higher purple drop rate than other foes. It's most likely just an illusion due to the random number generator being nice to me, but after a span of 3 months or so where I got ONE purple drop, I got 4 in the space of 2 Carnie missions. (I ran one mission and got two, got none for a few more missions, and got 2 more in another mission)
Like I said, it's probably just coincidence, but since the character that happened with cuts through Carnies like a hot knife through melted butter (BS/DA scrapper), I'm going to continue fighting them. Works out nicely, since they pop up in several tip missions, and I'm in the middle of Harvey Maylor's arc.
Otherwise, your best bet is to run a character that can defeat lots of enemies quickly and just run 47+ content. In my experience, it doesn't seem to make much difference whether you're farming one mission, or just running normal missions on x8. -

Here is what I do because I like variety so farming one mission over and over is boring to me. Note this is when solo. Certainly if you are going to team you may as well do the high end taskforces and might even want to run the 2 new ones they made for Incarnate 50s.
With my level 50 I run level 45-50 Ouroboros' arcs that are suited to their powers. For example my warshade loved Unai's "To Save A Thousand Worlds" arc because of the large number of outdoor maps and very few EBs (1?). Purple drops are so hit and miss that this isn't the reliable means of course. I then take the reward merits and convert them to hero merits to buy goodies to sell.
Meanwhile I had (relatively) lowball bids in the market on the purples I wanted (both recipes and enhancements). It takes a long time for them to fill and if too low they never fill but it's worth a shot. Once I got both the recipe and the enhancement so I sold one back.
I was running tip missions and getting hero/villain merits but there's a limited number of missions and it got boring. -
I just want to thank the person who chose the dates because I already had the 28th off from work for my birthday.
So I will be watching my super hero DVDs and playing City of Heroes all day (which I had already planned to do) and getting 2XP while I do it. -
I was concerned about Chris as Cap but he blew me away in The Losers so I am optimistic about his performance. I am looking forward to the movie.

Quote:Or you can ignore the last 5 and list how much you want and bid how much you are willing to pay.Intelligent posts like this are forcing me to write my treatise more quickly. "Last 5" quotes may or may not have any relation with where the existing bids and offers are in the system. You can only use "Last 5" as a guideline and try to determine if it is accurate and represents supply and demand or if it is a case of painting the tape.
I often wonder what would happen if no history was displayed at all. -

Quote:I am so glad you wrote out FUD because I couldn't remember what it stood for and figured an internet search would give me a million results. Please don't kill the rabbit. Thanks for the support.
Some readers obviously understand where I am coming from and others do not...imagine that...
I freely admit that complaining about the complainers is hypocritical. How many of the doom-criers will come out and admit that, hmm?
I am well aware I am blowing off steam and it will, in no way, change how the haters hate.
I am, however, laughing even now at those people who post rude and immature drivel trying to attack the developers yet still pay them. Hilarious!
(and yes - Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt is what I was referring to, but Elmer is my hero!) -

Big Conan fan here so I am enjoying his superhero antics. I was hoping when he brought it up the other night that he had found out about our contest so I was disappointed until he showed the cartoon and gave his commentary on it.

I've always been fond of the Adam West TV one. I used to imagine getting one if I won the lottery.

It would be amusing to watch in another window while I am running around the City. -

The only benefit I have seen is I rarely run low on endurance and my recharge rate is great.
But you have to casually purple warshades. It's the law. -

You know people love to buy those weekends, even starting on Wednesday or Tuesday before hand. -
Well if you watch movies like Donnie Brasco and TV shows like Wiseguy you could play it out that your character is going undercover and back for some group: Longbow or FBSA.
Then while what the official account among the villains is what the mission says it is, in fact that was just an illusion pulled off to convince them you have gone bad. -
Quote:I think this is true however it is possible that they may be willing to spend $10 per month and unwilling to spend $15 per month. It doesn't make sense to me but I can imagine it is possible. If players can't afford $15. bucks a month they can't afford $10.
It's not dissimilar from why I do an annual subscription to save myself about $50 a year in the subscription.
