It's actually not that uncommon. The idea is basically that if they were perfectly fine with it being broken for a whole 2 years, why do they suddenly fix it now? Fixing bugs is great, but it only makes sense if you actually take it seriously. Fixing one random bug out of a hundred really serves no purpose other than to annoy the people that the fix affects directly. I think that if they routinely fixed PvP bugs, nobody would complain about this issue. But the way this looks, it's like their only goal was to make yet another set worthless in PvP.

Basically PvP is completely irrelevant at this point. So few people participate in it, and it's been so ridiculously broken for so long, there is no hope for it.
The strange thing isn't that they "fixed" KM after 2 years. It's that they actually spent time doing something at all for PvP. When almost every power, and essentially the whole system, is completely bugged, randomly fixing one of the broken powers seems pretty pointless. The rest is still broken, and there's still like 100 total people that even care. -
Wow really? That's cool...really opens some options for those too lazy to go ALL the way to vil side to open up the pools (like me).

Yeah I know, but to me, it just takes too long.
RoA by itself is 4-5 secs of animation time. If you need to spend time debuffing the mobs first, then reacting to their return fire, and only then attacking, it'll be like 10 secs of "fighting" before you do a point of damage to the mobs. On some teams the whole spawn will already be dead by then. Meanwhile with a blaster you just launch RoA from complete safety, and you're not even attacked until the arrows start falling.
At least that's how I imagine it. The only archery toon I've played is a blaster. -
I wouldn't make BS at this point. I think warmace is simply a better set, while being very similar.
Also, don't even bother with PvP. At this point you really can't have an "all-round toon for both PVE and PVP". There are VERY few builds that are really viable in PvP (and BS isn't one of them), and you absolutely need completely separate builds for PvE vs PvP. In most cases, you will have a godlike toon in PvE, but it will still be a total joke in PvP. To really have an effective PvP toon, you need to make something specifically for PvP, with no PvE in mind. -
Much like elec melee with lightning rod on scrappers, I can't imagine playing archery on any AT besides blasters, because RoA is so amazing on blasters. The best secondaries, as mentioned, would be EM or MM. EM for a pure ranger, and MM for lots of survivability.

I tend to agree with all that. PvP was the best back when everybody was on even ground, and the game came down to skill. Now to compete you have to spend 20+ billion inf, get all accolades, and get all the incarnate stuff. That's just to try PvP. It's no wonder that nobody wants to. The vast majority of the player base couldn't even dream of that much of an investment.
That said, things would probably be at least ok if I13 never happened. But the completely broken system, combined with the ridiculous "entry fee" has ruined the game for good. -
Quote:You're right on that. The peak performance is great, but the problem is that the rest of the time (the vast majority) it's sub-par. My oldest toon is a BS/regen scrapper, which I play with SO's to this day. And sure, I can jump into a spawn with MoG while DP+IH are running, and for that spawn I'm practically godlike and have zero problems. With only SOs, it actually compares very favorably, and has some of the highest peak performance.
The problem is what happens on the next spawn. IH goes down, MoG isn't recharged, and DP will drop soon without being anywhere near perma. So literally in a matter of one minute, I go from being godlike to having nothing but reconstruction and a piddly amount of regen to save me.
That disparity doesn't exist in other sets in my experience. There you pretty much know what you can handle, and it's always pretty consistent. -
Quote:Yep, over the first few years, regen was definitely the most nerfed set in the game. And while we hated the nerfs, they made sense in the end. It really was OP.One forum poster even pointed out to the Devs that there data was inaccurate, something to do with the server they were testing on.
That specific case you're referring to did happen. The devs made major nerfs to regen based on data from their internal testing. They said that scrappers shouldn't be able to solo huge +8 spawns. As it turned out, their internal server was completely messed up and was basically nothing like the actual game. Soloing +8's wasn't because of regen, it was because of completely different programming. This was pointed out to them, they admitted their huge error....and then published all the nerfs anyway. Really bad design on their part, but that's a whole other topic.
But yeah, the set was OP. With IH+DP, you pretty much could not die. Reconstruction was actually a completely useless power. Nobody took it. What's the point of a heal when IH heals you to full in like 3 seconds anyway? That's how good IH was.
But as it is now, I think it does need an improvement. It takes a huge investment to make regen truly shine. Out of the box, it is almost definitely weaker than other sets. -
I do 2 acc SO's and 3 rech SO's. This way it basically never misses, and recharges quickly. The 6th slot really isn't needed.

Quote:My point is that other sets...just about ALL other sets...can provide more than just survivability. Of course defense isn't useless, but when you have defense with +dmg, +rec, -res, etc. vs defense with nothing else, the decision is pretty simple. While FF can use some looking at, I can't agree with this reasoning.
Yes, some people can soft-cap blasters, etc, etc. But not everyone can - or is even going to bother trying, since they'll have no interest in it (or no access to IOs.) For those people, FF adding Defense and then more Defense is a good thing (not to mention some degree of crowd control in Force Bubble, Repulsion Bomb, Repulsion Field, etc.)
If my Ill/FF troller was my only toon, of course I'd play her. And I'd find ways to be effective, because technically any good player can add something to a team. But because I do have other buff/debuff toons, I never play her. ALL of the other toons offer better alternatives. -
This is pretty easy, and I've sure both sets have been mentioned already (I didn't read the whole thread).
Energy Melee - Just a joke of a set at this point. Could very well be the worst melee set in the game, due to the non-existent AoE damage combined with very bad ST damage.
Force Fields - Defense is the most easily attainable way of bolstering your survivability. Even blasters can self-cap their defenses these days. So a set that can add defense and absolutely nothing else is lacking. The easiest comparison is to Cold. Cold has practically the same defensive shields, but can also add an amazing amount of offense to a team. It's very well balanced. If the team already has good-enough survivability, the Cold still has a lot to contribute. Meanwhile the FF is 100% useless. -
That's crazy talk. You most definitely need hoarfrost. Could also take aid self on top of it, but I think that tough/weave is the better option.
-
Quote:Agreed. This is the biggest thing. When I IO'd my fire/SS and took him from SO's to 32% defense (1 luck away from softcap), I was suddenly able to do +4 content with the same effort I used to be able to do +0 content.
Rocking a softcapped s/l defense fiery aura tank will change your life. Seriously.
+rech and HP is nice, but nothing will make such a noticeable difference as adding a good amount of defense. The key to survival in this game is layering different things (def, res, healing, and regen). With all the res and healing you have, adding the defense on top of it.....well, I'd say it doubles your survivability at the very least. -
Eh, I think it's fine. Pyronic is a lot faster. Void has the best debuff. So I really wouldn't say that Ion is the best. They all have their own advantages.
-
From what I've read, sonic on defenders is better than any other AT. It's one of those sets that's clearly better one one AT than others. So if you're making a defender, I'd go with the best. As far as primary, I think thermal is the best out of the three. Empathy is pure buffing, which can get old. Sonic/ just isn't that powerful in many cases. Meanwhile therm is the perfect mix between the two, and a good mix of buffs and debuffs. So my vote is therm/sonic.
-
From what I remember, Ion really is autohit, while all the others are regular powers. This is why so many people choose Ion. Well, one of the main reasons.
-
Fire/SS would be the best, but if that's not an option, fire/fire is also great. /fire is definitely more proven than TW.
-
Toss up for me between devices and force field. Deleted a couple devices toons over the years, and even though I have a Ill/FF, I never play her because FF just sucks.
-
I've been playing my MM almost exclusively for the last week, and this bug has been happening non stop. At least half the time I zone. Made the toon practically unplayable until I read on here about /release_pets.
Another thing I noticed is when you zone into a mission, it animates the pets going through the door a bunch of times. They'll walk through....tp back...walk through...tp back, etc. -
Plainguy you're kind of late to the party. I made the thread just to get some ideas from people that have done this. I don't really need help with my build, and I don't need anybody to hold my hand and show me what to do. I've gotten like 9 toons to +3, so I know what I'm doing with incarnates. I just wanted people to share what they did with their MM's in order to give me some ideas...which I got.
-
Quote:It'll be funny when it turns out that you were also the one that gave them the idea of I13also, mad props to a certain person with dev connections who asked me what needed fixing while i was in RV (3 minutes after i finished a rage fit over dying to a KM baddo with teh downs), and the first thing that came to mind was "tell them to fix KM".

Thanks Justaris. Not sure what happened with the build...it does have SO's in place, and a -KB IO in combat jumping. I would probably consider musc if I had more then just stamina as my +recovery powers. But my problem isn't really recovery...it's that all the powers take soooo much end. When I jump into a spawn and use 3-4 powers, I am pretty much completely out of end. After that I don't need to do much else (except spam the heal), so it recovers pretty fast...but the initial "alpha strike" just about drains me each time. That's the main thing I want to address.
But yeah, I will try using the numina and miracle uniques and see if they help.
The new bug with MM henchmen is really making things difficult though. About half the time I zone, I completely lose control of my pets. Can't even despawn or respawn them. Has to be the biggest bug I've seen in a while, since it basically makes MM's completely unplayable. -
Any time they touch anything in PvP, they ruin it. And that's hard to do, considering everything is already broken beyond belief.
Just because one power in a set is OP doesn't mean the entire set should be made completely worthless.
Sounds like it's back to SS being the only viable melee set. Great job devs....way to introduce variety into PvP. -
So no other thoughts? I've realized I really need help with endurance, so either vigor or cardiac is pretty much a must.
