Weird, I've dropped a few annoying ones. Just 'call' the radio and there should be an option to drop the mission as usual.

    [/ QUOTE ]

don't think I've ever seen that and I was looking last night

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can drop them, but I think you have to be in the correct zone.

Some people might play them just for the story, but most won't.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because no one ever read a novel just for the story...

    [/ QUOTE ]

If I want to read a good story while not levelling my scrapper..I'll pick up a book.

What would be the point of having a custom mission creator if all you could do was newspaper-type missions? We already have newspapers for that. Gut the rewards, it's not like farmers bother to read mission descriptions anyway so they'll be content with their newspapers/TV mission/Behemoths.

    [/ QUOTE ]

...because only farmers who don't read the mission descriptions are interested in xp, right?

Some people might play them just for the story, but most won't.

The idea that user-made content will be somehow better than the stuff the devs write is - for the most part - fantasy; the vast majority of it will be derivative junk.

Most players won't want to trudge through dozens of sub-par missions to get to one jewel if they don't at least reward the character in some way...and most players won't even play many of those jewels without some incentive to do so.
  4. If they don't count for xp, inf, or badges...then they won't count for much; very few people will play them past one or two for novelty value.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't offer exactly the same rewards as the average newpaper mission.
  5. A very good year (I'm sure Nom remembers it well)

    Happy Birthday Praf.
  6. LotRO offered it for one-off-payment-lifetime subs, but not recurring ones.

    Servers merger?

Oh I dunno, most Cavern of Transcendence PuGs I've been in, half the team didn't know what they were getting into - to the point of people leaving 10 minutes in when they realise it's not a normal mission and then 2 members trying to convince the rest of the team that there's no point them wasting their time carrying on.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
With regards using PayPal for subscriptions, we can't currently offer this as PayPal is not compatible with the recurring billing system.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Any chance you'll offer one-off purchase options instead of recurring then? e.g. buying a single month, or block of months as a one-off payment.

I dunno about anyone else, but I for one never leave recurring subs running on MMOs anyway, I'll buy a block of time and cancel the sub in one action, then decide at the end of the block whether I want to carry on paying.

    Servers merger?

When I first started playing WoW, the very first thing that struck me was there were a couple of dozen other people in the starting zone...it was quite sobering.

That said, I play Lotro too (admittedly on a 'low population' server) it makes Defiant look like a WoW server by comparison.

    Hail Mary

    I had that for a while - mine was a Storm/dark defender
  11. Yup, and the way Cryonic explained it above was how I read it too: working just like anniversary badges.

Third party apps such as Hero Stats and CoHLCD appear to be incompatible with changes made with Issue 12. These apps appear to be having problems and sucking up large amounts of memory, and thus starving the client of memory. This then causes the client to perform poorly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There have been two recent updates to HeroStats: the first one fixed the memory problem/lag (and scanned the game) the second one allowed CoH LCD to work again.

I have both running now with no lag - thanks to Cryonic for pointing them out

    Arachnos Names!

    [ QUOTE ]
One think I'd like to see are VEAT prefixes instead of the usual titles such as Daring, Legendary etc.
If you create Operative Smith at level 1 by the time you reach 50 you would hope he'd be Arbiter Smith or Regent Smith.
There are lots of different Archnos titles in the game such as Operative, Huntsman, Regent, Night Widow etc and it would be nice to see you be able to adpot these titles as you progress through the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I came here to suggest the same, so:

    /signed

    (in blood)

(no, not mine, that Longbow agent's over there)

    (yes, the broken one)
  14. I just respec'd my ice/rad having finally hit 50...I'm only just getting into slotting IO sets (concentrating on recovery first as he's a total End-hog) so most of my powers are common IOs.

    In Block of Ice I have: 2xRecharge 1xAcc 1xDamage 2xHold

It hardly ever misses, the hold time is pretty good, it's very spammable and it does a bit of damage (about 50 without containment). It was my main damage along with the Vet reward Axe until I got the pet.

Watches as one of Gilmore's new SG members crafts and takes a lvl 50 damage set invention that Gilmore
'pre-programmed' to sell at Wentworth's while Gilmore was changing characters...
(I think that is/was a bad idea... IMO heh.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    My idea thanks

Obviously it would have the same permissions built in as the rest of the SG storage.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
We could also, IMO, do with a small amount of shared recipe space. People will transfer salvage and recipes to alts one way or another: why make it hard?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with this, possible options:

Make the postal system work like WoW's and allow you to mail attached items to your same-server-same-faction alts.

Put a small recipe storage bin into the SG Base.

Allow you to 'pre-program' an SG base crafting table by feeding it a recipe - which can then be used by another character in the SG.
  17. Very nice introduction to the set Alvan; so many Empaths I've teamed with in PuGs really don't have the first idea.

It's the shame the thread seems to have been slightly derailed though; I'm not sure the arguing about certain powers is particularly helpful to a new Empath, especially where there is no 'right' or 'wrong', just 'circumstances dictate'; that sort of stuff has to be learnt for oneself.

For what it's worth, back when I played my Empath, I had no set rules about who and what to cast Fort on - whoever needed it most at the time got it...which is what you said.
  18. I have a spines/regen and a broadsword/willpower, both in the mid-40s.

I like both alts, but the /wp one is so much easier to play - you really don't have to worry about your secondary at all, apart from the single 'panic button' power - which tends to be used tactically in my case, just like new MoG.

With /wp, either your secondary is working, or you're dead.

With the /regen, I often feel I'm playing my own personal Empath as well as scrapper.

Cheers - essentially levelling 2 toons from 2 to the high 40s, plus the bonus prestige (after some heinous membership padding with temp accounts ) were enough to do the job.

Mind you, wouldn't like to have to try the same hero side, with its 79 zones and associated inflation of teleporter count/porter rooms/plot size.

Will sit tight and hoard the prest now, and hope the promised "base-oriented issue" appears soon.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did it hero side (as well as a villain side base). Funnily enough I seemed to fall into one or two temp accounts just at the right time as well. It's amazing what you can cram into the smallest plot size with enough planning. I managed 4 Transport Rooms servicing 16 locations. With a bit of planning I have yet to need a teleport destination that wasn't in the base. I haven't had to sacrifice on storage either, with 5 insp collectors, 3 enhancement tables, salvage, vault etc, and a medbay. All done with 6 million bonus prestige & 2 active members.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    - you forgot the fire & ice pillar you managed to squeeze in there too, I've even used it!
  20. I'd recommend willpower over regen to any new player...

I'm levelling a broadsword/willpower scrapper, and at level 42 I have to say it's the easiest one I've tried - even easier than my Fire Tank (I deleted a broadsword/dark armour at 19, hated it: total Endurance hog).

I have a spines/regen at 46, it's lot of fun to jump into a group and let rip, but if I were to do it again, I'd go willpower - its a real 'fire-and-forget' secondary, lets you concentrate on hitting stuff.
  21. I feel like I'm stepping into a minefield here, but here goes.

The thing that's always struck me about containment is while it makes a certain amount of sense that a held/immobilised foe should take more damage (as they can't dodge) it's never made sense (to me) that this extra damage should be restricted to the controllers; it makes even less sense when I can get containment damage on a mob that another controller has contained.

If I were going to change the controller inherent, I'd start with making containment a global buff/debuff effect (although much lower than it is, a similar amount to the leadership Assault buff maybe) so all team members get the benefit; buff the controllers holds and immobs so they last longer (seriously, some of the holds are stupidly short) and maybe increase controller base damage a smidge.

This would be a massive buff and sizeable nerf at the same time, but promoting a controller's controlling abilities over the damage-dealing ones, which I think is the OPs intention.

Before this generates flames, I'm not advocatiog a change to containment, just suggesting what such a change might be.

For the record, I have several controllers - a level 30ish Mind/Kin, a 20ish Ill/Sonic and a 39 Ice/Rad, all made after containment was introduced; I've deleted about 4 others at around level 10-15 before containment was introduced, as I found them too difficult to solo - i have one controller I made prior to containment - a fire/kin, who sits unloved at 16; the promise of higher damage does not neccesarily equal enjoyment in my book when it comes to controllers - I like them to control.
  22. I prefer ice/rad, earth=ugly and iceslick=funny as heck
  23. Speed boost is lot more than just a free superspeed - it speeds up everything, all your powers cycle faster; it's great buff - though be warned, some people really don't like it, as the extra movement speed can upset their playing style.

I've got a level 30ish mind/kin that I play very occasionally - without confuse, I don't think I could solo well at all.

If I were you, looking for a solo-friendly power from what you listed, that's what I'd take.
  24. I left it until 49 - it's great fun to use on UFO raids.

I took the self-rez on my scrapper a lot earlier though - once you get over the debt thing and accept that sometimes you will be defeated, it's so much fun to do the Freak Tank thing and just get back up without any hanging about.
