  1. There are a number of artists with whom the art forum regulars and City of Heroes DA group members are pretty familiar. Names like John Becaro, Daggerpoint, PlayWorksArt, Juggertha, etc. But there are tons and tons of artists on DA who do amazing work, and plenty of them accept commissions. I wanted to use this thread for people to suggest artists whom may not be "household names" around these parts, but who--nevertheless--have turned out quality pieces.

    Just to start it off:

    dfbovey
Absolutely gorgeous pencils; both incredibly detailed, and wildly kinetic
    monkeymarc
If you like babes, bullets, and...b stuff, Marc is your guy.
    Kevin-Sharpe
Kevin used to be the artist for Marvel's "Nova", and is fully open for commissions. He just sent me the layout for one that should be done in a few weeks, and I loved its face off.
  2. Okey doke, then!

    Here are pages for:
    Judge Midnight
    and
    Moxie Danger

Both are very much works in progress, Moxie's more than the Judge's.
  3. Wouldn't you just use your mouse's rbutton and drag the camera?
  4. Whatever floats their boat. It'd be "sad", I guess, if they'd never experienced all the content. But if they're a vet who doesn't want to go through all the same old repetitive stuff, and instead pick and choose what they do via Ouro and such? Who cares?
  5. ...is this thread not for posting additions and updates to the Virtueverse site? I miss that thread. And I have new things.

Awesomesauce, that's exactly the news I was hoping to hear. Thanks!
  7. ...I wish I could sig that whole post.
  8. Helloes. Just two quick questions that I couldn't answer myself; does Aid Self root you for its cast time, or are you just hampered by the interrupt time? Also, I believe the DDR cap is 95%, but I can't seem to find confirmation on that.

    Thanks!
  9. I had a "Starboy" (on Virtue no less; go me) who was Mind/Energy; Mind might seem weird, but it worked. Or you could go FF/Energy.
  10. Dang...my SS/ hasn't got Gloom (I know, I know...stupid sorta RPers and yer crazy concept builds). Ah, well, I've always got my DM/SD.

Sorry for the thread derailment; back to the ill-advised wagering!

EDIT: Oh, while I'm here...I asked a week or so ago about the top (or at least a decent) SS/ attack chain, one which at the very least would allow for AV soloing. Since this thread is now being populated by notable AV soloers, and at least one of y'all mentioned SS as a viable set, any advice on a decent chain?

Rather than trying to come up with the whole character why not get people involved in the creation process (as no one really likes playing someone else's pre-dictated rules) or better yet see if friends and the like already happen to have existing characters that match that particular idea of yours?
Yepper. This is actually both the non-starter and the solution; I've recruited some friends to be either allies ("known associates", in OHMU lingo), or enemies, and the "core" crew--Guy Friday and Crime Queen--I'm going to play pretty close to the vest and just keep for my own fiction and AE. Spot on, Flea, spot on.

Sure, if you'd like. "Boss Steam" is probably the name/concept to which I'm least attached, so pretty much anything you come up with that looks like a steampunk mob boss ought to work. Although who knows; maybe what you come up with is super cool, and ends up being an awesome foil.

Oof, that's 1:10 in the AM my time; I'll likely be asleep by then. For that guy, I don't really have a look, or sets, in mind; of that list, he probably has the least "synergy" with the protagonist(s). I'll hang on to the name until I know we're both going to be around.

Oh, I have all those names. I also added a couple I had forgotten about.

Nice one, thanks Nal. I'll PM you the whys and wherefores. Y'know, I might as well list the characters, in case someone wants to try out the sets. If anyone's interest gets piqued, I can PM the backstory/canon and such.

The "protagonist", I guess, is named Moxie Danger, a young, sassy superhero private eye. She looks like this. In game terms she's a blueside SS/SR Brute. I'll probably start up a small SG, detective agency style.

    Villains:
Crime Queen--currently have her as a Mind/Nrg Dom, but that's totally open to revision; her backstory's the more important part.
Doctor Deathtrap--again, sets not super important (though I imagine that something /Traps would be a given)
Satin Fox--a DB/WP Brute, but again, open to revision (also might change this name)
Nickelplate--a SS/Inv Brute, but again, yadda yadda. About the only thing that's important here is that he's all metallic-like. (A metal-covered dude wielding twin nickelplated guns would be cool, too. Thugs/ or DP, either/or)
    Boss Steam--steampowered crime boss
Fath--oh, wait, I don't have that name quite yet. Need to snag it when I get home. Nothing to see here...

    Supporting Cast:
Guy Friday--Traps/DP, tech guy, and the Giles/Q to Moxie's Buffy/Bond

So I guess now this thread can be either for interested parties, or for the original intent. Oh yeah...and if anyone's got a character whose particular idiom they think fits this general, pulp-flavored thingamajig, feel free to drop me a line.

Not to mention all of the teams being formed in Zone Broadcast.

Since the new issue I need like 5 copies of myself to keep up with all the things going on and the people who want me to play with them.

Which of the 3 ITF teams do you want to join? Which of the Two Lady Greys in this instance going on right now? There is also a Mothership raid going on and someone else is bored with all the 45-50TF's being run and wants to run a Synapse, someone else is just running a level 50 mission team for shards.

    Its been great!
Hm...I want to say I'm familiar enough with your posts to just say, "lol, this post wins the thread", or something to that effect. But if it's not a Snarky McSurly post, then yep, same with me when I log in. Too many TFs, too little time.
  19. Hi Virtue.

So, I've got this character whose backstory/canon includes a somewhat robust supporting cast and Rogues Gallery. I was hoping to hear ideas from other players as to how to handle these things. The only two options I can imagine would be:

    A. Play all of these characters myself, and have them only interact "on paper" (or in the AE), or
    B. Enlist friends to play characters I've created, whose backstories are pretty much already set

I feel like B is highly unlikely. I'd be content with A, but if anyone has come up with a third option which works well, I'm all ears.

    Thanks!
    SD
  20. It's Kinetic Combat; it's always expensive. And that's not even its real issue; its availability is.

The best way to look at the market for highly demanded items is thusly; you aren't paying for the item itself. You're paying for time/convenience. You can get a full set of Kinetic Combat in about a week's worth of Tip Missions and Reward Merit Conversions; throw in Salvage/Crafting fees and you're looking at maybe 120 Million for the 4 pieces you [probably] want. Or you can put up a bid for 150 million for ONE piece--even though there aren't any available--then get frustrated. Your call.

EDIT: Oh yeah; one of the KinCom pieces can be obtained for 50 Reward Merits. So make that 4 days and 95 Million Inf (conversion, crafting, and salvage) for the whole set. And if you don't have that kind of Inf to do the converting, get yourself to 2 Hero Merits, make an LotG: +Rech, and profit.
  21. Yeah, wow, that last piece is really awesome; stands up next to some of those old Larry Elmore D&D paintings that creeped me out when I was little. Congrats!
  22. I find these two quotes really perplexing:

    To address them in order.

Quote 1: There's a difference between elitism and being selective. It's been my experience that most RP SGs tend towards playing together, or with likeminded groups, as it wouldn't make a ton of sense for, say, characters from the Golden Age Heroes group of SGs to randomly invite TechArmorDemon666 along on one of their outings. As for the AE thing? You're looking for a "good [RP] SG", yet bemoan the fact that "everyone almost everyone is using the ae stuff". The AE--or Mission Architect, as I prefer to call it--is the mechanic which drives a lot of intragroup RP. It's a GOOD THING that lots of RP SGs use it; it lets them craft tailor-made missions and such for themselves and their teammates, often using villain groups and other NPCs which exist only within the SG's internal canon. As for all the non-RPers using the AE; who cares, if that's not what you're looking for?

Quote 2: True story; good SGs don't stand around in Atlas spamming that they're accepting recruits. Check the Virtue Supergroup thread. Poke around on GuildPortal. Find an SG that fits the genre/themes to which you gravitate, then make first contact with them. Be proactive.

    Good luck!
  23. Big old thread rez.

I figured it'd be better to just update this thread instead of starting a new one for every character I have. Anywho...here's my first Judge Midnight commission, by MatiasSoto. Great price, great art.

I'll almost certainly be looking to get this colored at some point, too.

  24. Does anyone know what the "optimal" ST attack chain is for SS, and also, what the recharge requirements per power are, and whether or not it does enough DPS to solo an AV?

I would love it if I could get away with skipping Jab and slotting Boxing (or Air Sup*) with procs, and just use Boxing/AS, Punch, Haymaker, and KoB, but I'm totally unsure of how well that would work in practice.

*EDIT: Mids is showing AirSup with a cast time of 3.3 seconds; is that right? I seem to remember it being somewhere on the order of 1.5ish.
