I'm having a hard time getting the i19 Mids patch to work, but even if it was good to go, I think I'd still have this question. I'm looking at two builds; one with a 92.5% global Recharge bonus (and ~15% Def to "all"), and one with 72.5% global Recharge with ~35% S/L Defense. The idea was to use all that recharge to leverage MoG and Shadow Meld, but I'm wondering if the 72.5% Rech/35% S-L Def build would end up being the better deal.
There are a lot of moving parts here (most notably the effect of the FF proc in QS), but I was hoping to solicit some opinions as to which build folks think would be the better investment. -
Power Siphon "turns on" the +Dam buff mechanic, and those buffs can be stacked 5 times. Each buff is worth an additional 31.5%, so you can get up to a 156.5% +Dam buff. That's the easy part.
It gets a little trickier when you have to factor in cast times (which aren't bad for KM; in fact, they're awfully good--the first 3 attacks are on par with Claws), and the duration of the buffs. Power Siphon, the mechanic, lasts for 20 seconds. Each buff lasts for 10 seconds. So with enough recharge, you should be able to get a full "chain of 5" at +156.5% damage.
I've been digging around for deeper analysis, but it looks like we're still waiting for Arcana (or another math whiz) to "publish" some results. -

Nice, lot of interesting responses. Really cool to see the variety of "go-to" characters out there.
I'm actually really enjoying a combo I've not seen mentioned yet; my Plant/Rad troller. Should be way more fun once I "finish" him up (S/L Cap, Perma Hasten+AM). -
Stop opening with Roots. Start opening with Seeds. That will solve 99% of your problems.

A post a couple of days ago caught my eye; I think it was from Nihilli. Essentially, s/he (sorry) said that Spines/Elec was their first first choice when logging in to the game. Mostly this caught my eye because I'd been considering rolling one of those myself, but I also got to wondering what other players' "go-to" choices were.
Pretty much talking about general play here; obviously, whatever anyone's leveling up at any given moment would likely be first choice, or a specific character for a planned event (AT X for TF Y, etc.). So, just for casual play, what do you all reach for first? -

*In Before Troll Leaves (again) -
I've never really understood the argument that granting set(s) X (and Y) to a given archetype leads to the need to grant them to other archetypes. Poison will never be anything but an MM secondary; Corrs don't get Psychic Blast; Pain Domination and Empathy, while similar (for the most part), will never cross CoX boundaries.*
*unless I'm completely missing newish info on the sets I mentioned -
After letting mine sit for a while, I whipped up a build in Mids that I like, but it also doesn't really seem to play to the "hang out in melee" strengths until around level 30 (after Seismic Smash).
I was wondering if it was a worthwhile tactic to work on a "ranged" build prior to 30, then respec into a more melee oriented focus?
Oh, for giggles, here's the build in question. I don't mess around with Purples, but it's darn near capped to S/L and has a pretty decent amount of recharge.

You can post that you're open for commissions, but you're not allowed to list prices. Your best bet is posting in the Screenshot & Fan Art forum (over in the "For Fun") section, with a link to commission info (for example, on your DA page).

In regard to stun stacking as an effective soft control...I find that DM's Touch of Fear is a far better method, since you aren't relying on "chance to" and it's perma.

Oh, sweet, thanks; very nice to be able to swap out Maneuvers for Grant Cover. I actually made a few little tweaks, but all in all, what I came up with varies very little from your posted build.
Thanks again! -
Someone (Frosticus, maybe) said they were working on an Illusion/Cold build that would be "more powerful", when completed, than their Ill/Rad; looking forward to seeing that.

Dear Fury (or whoever wants to chime in),
I recently rerolled a Fire/Elec concept character over to a FM/SD. I was hoping to get some feedback on his planned build. I know it's really expensive, but it's 1) a long-term project, and 2) backed up by about 750M laying around across a few different characters.
My one specific question pertains to DDR; I'm not quite sure how to read the way Mids displays it. Other than that, I'm open to most suggestions; I'd really like to keep the powers that I've selected. I see the inclusion of Fire Sword as being the most logical "sticking point" for some folks, but it lets me maintain an unbroken ST attack string, and also is sort of a set mule for a 6-pack of ToD, which I needed in order to cap Melee.
Anywho, here's Doc Steam:

Yeah, I didn't have access to the game at the time of the post, so I couldn't read the descriptions. Thanks for the info, folks!
-
Pretty much what it says; just wondering if you can get "full invisibility" by stacking, say, the Celerity and Unbounded Leap IOs. I'm assuming "nuh uh", but figured I'd ask anywho.
-
The fallback for this sort of thing is just to rename the current character. That way you keep the badges, merits, etc., but still get to "start over".
-
I rerolled my very first level 50 character because I wanted him to be taller.
Three days later the Super Tailor got announced. -
I just started one of these myself, and poking around in Mids a bit, I see that slotting is going to be far more of an issue than any other character I have. By "slotting" here I mean, "I keep running out of slots no matter how I try to build this combo." Are people not 6-slotting most of the attacks?
-
Well, it's only a "kinda/sorta" homage, so having lightning constantly around doesn't "break" it or bother me. I'm not really trying to attempt to recreate his powers...homage was probably a poor choice of words. "Character concept is similar to" just sounds clunky, though.
The more I think about both SS/Elec and Elec/Inv, the more I like either/or those two. -
...a powerset combo for a new Brute. The character concept is a kinda-sorta Black Adam homage, so I'm trying to work Electricity (for lightning) in there somewhere.
Right now, the contenders are:
SS/Elec
Elec/WP
Elec/Inv
Elec/EA
I'm fairly handy with Mids, and have put together builds for all 4 potential combos, but I'd like to hear, if possible, from people who have experience with these combos, or even sets. I've taken both SS and WP pretty far, blueside, but the other sets would be very new to me. Also, Redside in and of itself is mostly new to me, so any things to watch for (i.e., Enemy Group X is more prevalent at Y level than blueside) would be awesome.
Thanks!
p.s.: the builds I've put together look kind of pricey, and having played a little bit of redside over the past week, I've noticed that there's a HUGE disparity between the two (blue/red) markets; more a relative lack of availability redside, rather than price. I'm hoping that GR lets us access blueside markets with "grey" (purple?) characters, then swap items to redsiders, but I'm not sure if that's the case. -
I'm kind of torn on the "changes wreck my build" line of thought; probably because I tend to view the game through both "mechanics" and "immersion" lenses.
From a mechanics standpoint, I'm sort of "meh" on "build-wrecking". High end, min/maxed builds are precarious balances of trade-offs, but also risk and reward. The trade-offs vary from build to build, but the risk versus reward is always the same; you risk the future viability of your current build's efficacy for the reward of its current efficacy. There are always going to be changes to powers, critters, mechanics, etc. It's impossible, or at least very difficult, to anticipate how any given build is going to be affected by X change(s) Y issues down the line. Obviously, some changes carry more weight than others (examples: ED, GDF, IOs, Energize), but finely tuned builds can fall apart under the "duress" of even minor (and sometimes predictable and understandable) tweaks (BotZ).
However, I'm not so "meh" on this same topic from an immersion standpoint. Say you've got a Scrapper who has soloed every Praetorian AV, cruises through RWZ challenges, and maybe even solos high level TFs. Then one day, your hero wakes up to discover that he can no longer do these things. It's kind of immersion-breaking, which bothers me far more than the mechanics of wrecked builds.
Just my .02 inf. -
Is it actually down, or just misreported on the Server Status?

Also, you can't really compare the two powers alone, in a vacuum. Rage is placed in a set that deals out one of the two most resisted damage types in the game, whereas Soul Drain is in a set that deals out one of the least resisted damage types in the game.
Oh, and all the recharge in the world won't help Soul Drain activate (i.e., cast/animate) quicker; it just brings it up more often.
