AV Killer?

Hello everyone. I had a question about which powersets I should take for an "AV Killer".
For some reason I have in my mind that Regen is the secondary power for the "AV Killer" Build. Is this true? Which primary should I take? Thanks in advance.

I can say that most primaries and secondaries are capable of killing arch villains with the correct build.

Two primaries that come to mind that probably can't or are extremely slow at are Electric and Spines.

Fire, Dark, Katana, Claws, and Dual Blades are capable of generating in excess of 200dps again with the correct build.

Katana/Regen is good combo that can solo AVs very well.

The best(and I use that term loosely) at AV soloing would probably be Dark/Shield. With its defense, +dmg in AAo and Soul Drain, and self heal with Siphon Life it is capable of putting out the most dps(250+) out of all combinations so far, BUT in order to put out that much damage needs a massiving influence investment in excess of 500 million or more on set bonuses.

Fire/SD and DM/SD are your top 2 flavors for AV soloing

DM/SR is probably the cheapest one and very roboust

fire/sr does really really well at it

Katana/reg does well with parry

After that it gets harder but it is way possible

Pinnacle
Langar Thurs-Katana/SR 50; Hejtmane-DM/DA 50
Rogue Spear-Spines/DA 50; Hypnosis-Ill/Rad 50
Sir Thomas Theroux-DM/SR 50; Melted Copper-Fire/Shield 50
Byzantine Warrior-DB/ELA 50;Blade Tempo-50 DB/EA

I've gone ahead and made a Katana/Regen.

I might try Dark/Shield, but I won't be able to thrive because I'm super poor.

If you're poor, I'd recommend Fire Melee/SR.

FM/SR can softcap all positions and attain 95% DDR easily without much influence. You can take Aid Self for when damage does get through, and Fire Melee doesn't require a lot of recharge to be able to run an excellent ST attack chain, as +Recharge is a lot of the cost in many expensive builds. Also, /Regen depends a great deal on +Recharge to excel as well. For example, Incinerate>Scorch>Cremate>Scorch requires 145% in Incinerate, 90% in Cremate, and 75% in Scorch and does ~170 DPS without any damage procs.

DM/SR requires more influence, as it's optimum attack chain requires a lot more recharge, but has the benefit of not needing Aid Self due to Siphon Life. If you think you might eventually get a moderate amount of influence, then it's a good choice. It's optimum ST attack chain is MG>Smite>SL>Smite, which requires 235% in MG, 185% in Smite, and 117% in SL and does ~222 DPS without damage procs and with saturated SD.

If you're poor I'd really suggest heading over to the market section and do some reading. I was poor when I first started and once the auction house came along I read as much as I could and learned a lot and make a decent amount of myself.

Listen to Gaiden. If you're s'uper poor', SR is the cheapest secondary to make your toon av-proof. And it provides all the mitigation you'll need in most cases, so you can concentrate on damage with your primary, and for pure damage, you can do a lot worse than fire melee. But if you don't like popping green insps, you'll need to fit in aid self - or go with dark melee, which does similar damage to fm, but has an attack that heals you, pretty much eliminating any need to pop greens, outside of ridicucrazy situations.

Also do note that if you're looking for an AV killer of any kind, there are better/cheaper/faster choices outside of the Scrapper AT, such as Defenders and Controllers.

But if you're specifically looking to roll a Scrapper, and you also want to solo AVs with it, then DM/SR is a fairly solid choice without being too expensive.

Rad/Sonic defender is capable of doing retarded amounts of damage. They can whack GM class enemies...

Someone (Frosticus, maybe) said they were working on an Illusion/Cold build that would be "more powerful", when completed, than their Ill/Rad; looking forward to seeing that.

Ha, I've got one at 45ish - got a link to any good builds?

My fire/shield is currently at 241 dps with "only" 500M or so invested, definitely cheaper then DM/Shield.
I've gotten about 210 dps from my dm/sr, but it required purples to get the recharge I needed.
My fire/wp is only about 175 dps because I sacrificed recharge and the "best" attack chain to increase to crazy survivability levels, but has no problem with any non-def debuff AV.
My Kat/ela has lots of potential, currently sits at about 220 dps, but I could see it going as high as 250+ with more money invested.
I agree that any primary can do it, but avoid spines and electric for single target. SR is about the easiest to use with any primary, regen and willpower are strong but really need alot of support from defense sets or katana/BS's defense buff to get a chance to regen reliably. Don't forget to pick a secondary you can live through an AV fight and maintain endurance while doing it.
