I agree. Until recently, Fire Control was the only Primary I hadn't tried on a Dom. After reading on the boards about how low Fire's survivability was I was expecting a rough ride. The reality? He solos just fine. In Praetoria, no less. Now I just need to control my alt-itis long enough to get him out of there....

Quote:I really wish you were on Liberty.Fix'd.
Seriously, I I ever form teams and I find there's a dom come up on my window as not on a team, I'll ask em. More than one? You bet! But they seem to be rare, I'm not often on the same team as one with a dom.
They're just so fun to play and team with...the only one I kinda shake my head at is Gravity doms because they don't cause as much chaos-ownage as your standard dom.
I have more Doms than anything else. I have at least one of every primary and multiples of a couple of them. I think the AT is just a blast to play. Often I am the only Dom on a team though. I've actually had people tell me they can't play Doms because they have "no survivability powers." I'd like to know what a Control Primary is good for then? Oh yeah, spamming fulcrum-shifted fire cages, I forgot. -
Quote:Bass, your "Mecha-Bull" has given me an idea for a "light hearted" character.......MechanoBull, a barroom mechanical bull that gained intelligence one day......oh that's so awful I may just have to create it.I might go with the Chimera character I made earlier. Just need to figure out what kind of AT it would be and what sets.
-
My first character was a Mind/Empathy Controller. I didn't take Fitness. Did I mention this was before Containment? The character still exists on a server I no longer play on. I logged into him a little while back, took one look at his build, and promptly logged him back out. I remember thinking to myself: "No wonder I hated that character."

These kinds of threads confuse me, because I have never seen a situation in which someone is denied a team based solely on their AT. Every time I see people forming TF's, they are usually saying things along the following lines:
1) LGTF forming, 3 spots open.
2) LGTF forming, need tank
3) LGTF forming, need controls
4) LGTF forming, need damage
When responding to someone advertising to fill a TF, I have never, not even once, been asked what my AT is when I tell them I'll go. Nor have I seen that done to anyone else. Lately I've been running my Warshade as I've decided to make him my "Incarnate Character". Despite all the hatred for Warshades and KB I have seen on the boards over the years I have never been kicked from a team or denied a team when on him. I've also not had anyone gripe about Shadow Cysts when they spawn because he's around. The most I'll ever see is the team leader say "Cyst" in chat and then the team promptly obliterates the damn thing, no fuss no muss.
So where are all these teams that pick and choose specific AT's? They don't appear to be on Liberty. -
Quote:You know, this is the central disconnect I have with Praetoria. I can and have soloed several characters through it. But I've also been playing since Issue 1, have all the Vet powers, can mail money and IO's to my alts if I feel like it, and know the game's mechanics quite well.Bottom line, the ambush tech needs to be looked at.
Also and especially for stalkers.
Many people have already given examples of how to still have them and have them work correctly int his thread.
If the point of praetoria is to entice new players to play this game the ambush mechanic needs to be looked at. The two path idea (presented when a character first arrives in Praetoria as a pop-up box) is the best idea.
Path one: Mega ambush regular path.
Path two: Seriously toned down ambush path.
If Praetoria is really intended to be the new player introduction then why in the heck is it balanced to challenge people like me? As Techbot Alpha would say, "Logic:Failure".
I like the idea of two "paths" through Praetoria. I don't know how resource intensive designing something like that would be, but I think it would be a good idea. -
Quote:Thank you. I'm looking forward to seeing the PopMenu you're working on. I use so many binds on my Warshade I think a PopMenu would be a neat idea.Congrats.
I just rerolled a WS (my level 50 one is stuck EU side in an inactive account) and have gotten myself to level 14 pretty quickly (sewer team and then an 8 man Midnighters arc). Inherent Stamina makes a world of difference to my Nova form, Endurance was a total non-issue for them (even with Hasten running). Was on a Montague Castanella team last night with 3 tanks and a Brute on it which meant I could float above them and lob purple death down without any risk.
22 is where I feel it really kicks off for a WS as well (it will also be the point I run a vet respec in order to 'leverage' my level 1-6 slots). You get a huge variety of powers and tricks to mess with nearly every time and you have slotted Dwarf, Stygian Circle and SOs to mess with.
I'm in the process of writing a POPMenu for the Warshade, taking tricks from the Kheldian Bind thread, as I go, so once I've gotten it to a decent stage I'll post it up (the Menu and the Bind Files I have have some weird corruption in them which I cannot see but which means CoH misreads them, which I have to resolve). -
Quote:I agree on all points, especially the Destroyers. I remember the first time I fought them on a Dominator: "Hmmm......that guy seems to be immune to CC. Ok, I'll hoverblast!" This was followed by the Big Dog throwing not one but TWO chunks of rock at me, both of which appeared to feature -Fly and took off over half my life by the time he was done. His Footstomp (seriously? A Tier 9 attack on a level 12 mob?) once I landed unceremoniously on the ground finished me off quite handily. My personal response to that has been to always run the Loyalist Responsibility arc on a Dominator. That arc has absolutely no Destroyer missions at all.If something genuinely gets done, Zwi, then you are as big a star as Avatea (considering I hold her as the Champion of all things EU, that means a lot (to me, anyway
))
If it was a case of having level 50s facing this...well, even then I'd find the ambushes excessive.
I think the main points, for brevity, are thus;
1) Homing ambushes, which ignore Stealth, effectively negating the entire Stalker AT
2) Overuse of -Def and high accuracy attacks early in the game, when defence sets are low performance anyway
3) I remember people mentioning the Big Dogs negating mez ATs a lot (not a personal gripe, but hey)
4) Overpowered power combinations. Syndicate Kineticists definitely fall into this category (SS/Kin is just wrong on so many levels)
5) Ambushes. Too many ambushes, too fast, too often. They make +0/x0 feel like x8, or even x9
Thanks for the attention to this though, it really is appreciated! -
Quote:There is a difference between encouraging an activity and essentially forcing it by making all the other available options seem nonviable by comparison. Does the current Notice solo conversion method go too far into the "nonviable" area? Perhaps. I am however encouraged that the Devs are at least making the attempt to include as many players as possible in this new end game system. It's an effort I've never seen any developers of any MMO attempt before. I thank them for that.I don't think anyone is saying that this conversion recipe isn't tedious. It's supposed to be tedious. Since they're, you know, trying to incentivize getting Notices by actually doing the WTF.
Some may argue that the solo method HAS to seem totally nonviable for people to team. I honestly call hogwash on that. As has been proven time and again, all they have to do is make the teaming path faster and people will flock to it. How much faster it should be is up to the Devs. I'm sure they'll eventually figure out a balance. They have restored my faith in them just by doing this much.
With all the feedback they've been given, I'm sure they'll make the right decision. If they start to stray too far down the path to CrazyLand (in favor of either direction) then I have no doubt the forums will light up like a Christmas tree all over again and let them know. -
I agree completely. My biggest problem early on was letting myself feel "trapped" into Dwarf form all the time. Once I started using inspiration macros so that I always had a break free handy, things really took off. It's hard to believe that something so simple can have such a big impact on a character.

Earlier tonight, my Warshade Starless Knight dinged 50 by killing Reichsman in the Kahn TF. I don't think I could have planned it better. Reichsman fell over, and BOOM! 50.
It's been a ton of fun leveling him. He's also the first character I've ever played that the idea of hitting 50 didn't diminish my interest in. Before logging out I unlocked the Alpha slot on him. Most of his IO build is done (just need 3 more sets). I have no doubt I'll spend a good chunk of the weekend playing him.
To anyone struggling with a low level Warshade: stay with it. The AT gets MUCH better, trust me on that one. Obscenely better. So much better you'll wonder why you ever thought the character wasn't a god.
Ah well. Off to bed now. I just wanted to gush a little on the boards before sleep. -
Quote:People are looking at the shard requirement from the perspective of current earning rates. As you pointed out they aren't taking into account the fact they will be able to earn shards from everything their character does in I20.Also THIS. The bolded part.
The devs are making this more and more casual and yet folks are still up in arms.
I . . . don't get it.
I for one am going to laugh my rump off the first time I get a shard from a level 10 Outcast while exemped down to a friend's alt. -
I have to say I am very pleased with the announcement. The Devs basically resolved every single concern I had regarding the Incarnate System all at once. The only thing I don't like about it is not being able to queue up in the Turnstile while in a mission, but I'm willing to bet there's a technical limitation or exploit prevention causing it, so I can live with it.

Quote:You don't get to add many friends using the above method do you? This happens so much I expect it. When I'm teamed with someone with Earth Control who doesn't use Stone Cages or (better) doesn't have it, I immediately friend the person, right click->add note->4 stars, and tell the player we should go out drinking some time.
True story bro.
I've watched Earth/ Doms and Controllers both drop an Earthquake and immediately follow with Stone Cages. I have 3 Earth Doms and an Earth Controller myself. Seeing people do that makes me want to send tells that would likely get me banned.
My personal gripes: On a Warshade, Double Mire plus Quasar is an absolutely devastating combo. Entire spawns vaporized. Of course, on a big team everything's dead or dying by the time I get the second Mire going........heck, sometimes if I run in and just hit Quasar half the spawn is dead before THAT finishes animating. This leaves me standing there going "I just crashed my End bar why, exactly?"
I absolutely will NOT run my Ice/Ice Dom with any Controllers. Other Doms are iffy, but Controllers are right out. Most Controllers seem to be under the delusion their AoE immob actually does significant damage. I can think of no other reason for them to run themselves out of endurance spamming the blasted thing. No really, I WANTED to waste that Ice Slick. AND all that endurance I'm spending on the 2 mobs I can get in my Arctic Air because the rest are locked in place all around the room. It's OK Mr. Controller, you just go back to spamming your AoE immob, I'll be fine.....
Don't even get me started on Archery characters and explosive arrow either. -
Quote:I've been playing my Warshade a LOT recently. The idea of having Inherent Fitness functioning in forms intrigued me, so I picked Starless Knight back up. It's been a ton of fun. I keep getting comments on him from my SG mates, but tonight I got the ultimate compliment: I logged into my SG's vent to hear two of my friends discussing the baby Warshades they had just created.Shamelessly advertise everywhere you go, offering to show people what a modestly slotted Warshade is capable of.
Form teams, build mission groups and pound the pacement proving you're a capable Kheldian.
And/or, my personal favorite. Do everything. Do the TF's nobody does, or rarely tries like the 'Shard TF's. Hit all the story arcs via Oro or Contact. Collect your Accolades. Y'know, the ones that actually 'do' something.
Complete a Trial or two. I hear the Abandoned Sewers need some serious work.
To the OP: if you haven't read Dechs's guide on Warshades, do so. It's quite good and filled with excellent advice. Conveniently, he's posted in this thread and has a link to his guide in his sig.
Oh and if you haven't tried this yet, do the following: with Eclipse running, charge into a large spawn, hit Sunless Mire, go Dwarf, then Dwarf Mire. Finish off the nearest minion (should only take one hit from a double-mired dwarf) then go human again and trigger Unchain Essence off him. I promise you'll giggle at the result. And any Brutes running with you at the time will probably need therapy. -
Quote:I can't speak for Hyperstrike, but for me the problem isn't just the level shift. It is that the Devs have decided to go down the route of absolutely requiring not only teaming, but teaming to do specific content and specific team sizes. They're choosing not to allow the Incarnate system the same flexibility you see in pretty much the rest of the game. I simply can't get behind that philosophy, as I feel it completely contradicts the flexibility that I've always thought was CoH's greatest strength. Then the problem, specifically, is the term "Level Shift". Ok
.
For my view, a level [especially in this game] is just another character-wise power increase.
I do acknowledge there are differences between levels and the more broad set of power increases, typically it comes into play more when you consider the Purple Patch [for this game anyway]. But, with how the difference between the Uncommon and the Rare Alpha Slot ability is staggered, that level shift feels simply more like a power increase (at this time).
In CoH you don't need the "holy trinity" of MMO's to do content. You also can get pretty much any number of people together you want and advance your character. I've always perceived the TF content as being there for people that liked large teams. TF's have up to now been one of many ways to play. I don't want them to become the only way to play. The Devs have said they want to create an "end game for all". If that truly is their goal, they are failing miserably right now because what they are providing us with is "end game for all that like TF's."
I truly feel sorry for people that play at off hours and/or on very low population servers. I simply don't see how the current design direction is going to work for them. -
Quote:I suppose you missed the entire next to last paragraph of my post, didn't you?Well, at least for the immediate future, the philosophy has changed a little. If it changed to the point where everything required teaming, I might have more sympathy for you. As it is, they've introduced one thing that requires teaming. In their MMORPG. For now. Hear that? It's the world's smallest violin. Live with it.
...Or don't. Either way doesn't matter much to me. Although, I do think it's pretty melodramatic to pitch such a fit over this.
Same reason it takes eight people to finish the Cavern of Transcendence trial. It just does. Live with it, do without, or leave. But to come here and complain that you want the shiny without doing x that's required is... Well, not very productive.
No, you want the devs to change a mechanic they've designed to earn something just to suit your particular play style, a style that flies in the face of what an MMORPG is. That sounds all fine and good, except that, like I said, I've been seeing this argument forever. People want to get Shivans without having to go in a PvP zone. People want to get task force accolades without having to run task forces. People want epic healing badges on archetypes not designed to heal. Ho hum.
You know absolutely nothing about my playstyle. And continually highlighting the two M's in MMORPG isn't going to change the fact that the Devs have changed the direction of this game. They are moving it toward an endgame raid style of play, which I do not think is good for CoH. I am giving my feedback on that change, and stating what I as a customer would like to see happen with future content development, nothing more. You and others like you seem determined to tell me I don't have the right to give that feedback.
I am not protesting against what the Devs are doing because I can't participate. My play schedule most certainly allows me enough time to run a TF pretty much anytime I wish. My ability to participate is not the point. The point is that CoH was not exclusionary until now, and I feel that making it so is bad for the game.
I'm not going to go away, I'm not going to shut up. I'm going to keep telling the Devs how I feel because I am under the impression they would actually like to know how the players regard their game. All the players, not just the ones that have a particular point of view. If you absolutely cannot stand that, there's no one making you read these threads you know.
I'm not throwing a fit. I'm stating my point of view. You're the one responding with enough venom to choke a snake. -
Quote:You are forgetting that up until now, there was no avenue of "power" that was closed to anyone because of playstyle. You could completely IO out a character in the most expensive of builds without having to run TF's at all. The fact that the Incarnate System requires running TF's to advance your character is a departure from that philosophy. If you really are so antisocial that you cannot stand playing with other people for the duration of a task force now and then, then I hate to break it to you, but boy, did you ever pick the wrong genre of game to get wrapped up in. I suggest venturing out of your comfort zone a little and giving the MM aspect of the game a shot. Worst-case scenario, you hate it. Well, suck it up and do it anyway. In my opinion, it's pretty stupid to forego playing a game you like 97% of just because you hate that other 3% so much.
If you just can't get past it, though, then I really am sorry that the game doesn't suit your style of play. Still, it's not like the devs snuck a genre change on you under the radar--the game has always been marketed from day one as an MMORPG. Please stop trying to make the devs and other players feel like crap because you came here unreasonably expecting something else.
As for your comments about "sucking it up." Simply put: NO. This is a game. Why in the devil should I do something in a game that I do not enjoy? That's just silly. I "suck it up" and do things I don't want at work because I have to. I would prefer not to be faced with the same type of choices in my leisure time.
And what is with people flinging around all the insults? People ask for the Devs to give us more options and suddenly everyone that doesn't like the idea feels the need to insult them? Marvelous.
I team every single night. Last night I ran two TF's with my SG. For the first TF we had 4 players, for the second, we had 5. But to advance my Incarnate character I have to run TF's that require 8 people? Why is that, exactly? What makes needing 8 people better than needing 4 or 5? Nothing.
All I want is for the Devs to give us options. That's it, just options. Some people are extremely opposed to that though. It's amazing to me how determined to deny things to others people have become these days. -
Last night I was running Posi 1 and 2 with some friends. I anchored Darkest Night onto a clockwork boss. Not long after, another boss aggro'd and came running over. The very second he touched the Darkest Night debuff effect he took off running. I understand that it is part of the run away code that mobs will flee if they detect they are very strongly debuffed. But come on! A single Darkest Night? I didn't even have Tar Patch down at the time.

Quote:I feel pretty much the same way. For the moment I'm playing the game as I always have and completely ignoring the existence of the Incarnate System, since it seems determined to ignore my existence. My friends finally got me to seriously try a Corruptor (Ice/Dark) and he's proving to be quite entertaining. That, and I recently rerolled my namesake character. So those projects will keep me busy for now.To avoid rekindling a flame war, I will only say this - having more people available to do it does nothing to change the fact that I don't want to run the STF.
I'll stick to rerolling my 50s and waiting for the Animal booster pack and subsequently the Vanguard Booster pack, and I'll see about rolling a few more new characters while I still have room on Pinnacle and Victory. That, or actually run some of the level 1s I made and never levelled up. And failing that, play some of the characters I abandoned in the 30s two years ago. I'm done complaining, and will instead be putting my money where my mouth is. -

When I got a new debit card recently the only way I could get it to work was to completely remove the old card, then add the new one. Using the link to simply update the card info gave me the same problems as others in this thread.
I don't know if that will work for you guys, but it worked for me. -
Thanks for the replies everyone.
After some thought, I really think the issue I was having was twofold:
1) My friend had his difficulty set to high given the mobs we were fighting.
2) I'm just not used to teaming much on my MM's and made a few silly mistakes of my own.
The first issue would be easily enough addressed. One of my SG mates has a bad habit of setting difficulties too high and wondering why the team has troubles. It's an issue he and I have discussed before. I'll never forget the time we teamed up and his brute died instantly to the alpha strike of the first spawn. I'm just going to have to remind him (again) that not all teams can do +4x8.
The second I can only address by teaming more with my masterminds. I haven't much in the past because there are a couple of my online friends that absolutely hate teaming with MM's. They've never complained about teaming with mine, but every single time a PUG MM joins one of our teams they fuss about it, so it's pretty obvious how they feel about the AT.
You've all given me some things to think about. At this point I guess it will just be a case of practice makes perfect. -
Oh heavens no, I never use Aggressive. I learned a looong time ago to only put pets on Aggressive if I want to earn some debt.
