I had an idea...
almost everyone is slotting for 41 points of knockback protection to avoid knockback from powers like energy assault's power push that you can slot for obscene amounts of kb. what if there was a way to increase that total just enough to surpass the 41 and result in knockback? people would be caught with their pants down.
playing with mids, i added 5 targetted aoe powers to a fire/energy dom and slotted them all with 2 pieces of air burst for the additional knockback set bonus. i ran the numbers with a few typical and atypical slottings on power push to see the effects:
slotting__________ base -> with air burst
6 slot kinetic crash - 45.5 -> 47.2
3 slot level 50 kb IO - 45.8 -> 47.4
4 slot level 50 kb IO - 47.7 -> 49.3
5 slot level 50 kb IO - 49.6 -> 51.2
6 slot level 50 kb IO - 51.5 -> 53.1
so, has anyone tested the viability of this as a way to exploit this weakness in alot of builds? im not a big test server user or affiliated with any of the test sgs so i wouldnt know if this was tried during some beta etc., but it seems to make sense in my head at least. depending on the response to this thread i was planning to mess with a build that incorporates this in and try to put it into practice.
(note: i know the number 41 is a pve value and in pvp it drops to somewhere around 9.8 but lets keep it this way for simplicity's sake, unless someone can tell me the dr curve for kb and kb protection) -
Quote:the crappy thing i13 did to sets with a fast self heal in zones is basically make greens just as good, if not better. if hib is down and multiple blasters close in on you there is nothing you will be able to do to stop them. the best way to not die is know when you have backup, even if unteamed i try to attack when there are stalkers around etc. try to limit reckless play to when hib is up and nophase is down.Playing without hibernate was definately wishful thinking on my part. Just too long a window between intangibility and my health dropping from spikes (mainly coming from Psy/Em blasters). I respect into something similar to Ra's build and am alot more survivable (still need to get my accolades *sigh*). Also, I love hitting a melee with HE and immediately they run for the base and say I suck in broadcast. Cya on Great Bite in RV!
Quote:Power Pool: Concealment
also, there is no point in running stealth on a redside non-stalker because most heroes come packing alot of perception. the only stealth you need is the io and super speed to avoid npc's supressing you if they see you.
fitness/leaping/speed/leadership/leviathin
or
fitness/leaping/speed/concealment/mace<--- less common because it lacks res. shield -
Quote:the pvp revamp only reiterates my point. why do you think control single target holds do enormous damage now, or mezz protection is essentially equalized across all your sacred "archetypes"? we should have seen this coming back when they changed defiance to negate mezz, and now even defenders got MOAR damage in vigilance. not that those are bad things all by themselves, but they agree with the new direction of the pvp game.For anyone who agrees with this statement please keep in mind that the game has a design based on AT roles. Stepping away from these roles and complaining about sets being useless come across as absurd to me... and I can only imagine what it sounds like to the people that develop this game.... especially when they went through all the trouble to revamp PvP to emphasize this.
These roles are described on the character creation screen btw. Maybe it's time we all took a step back and started over with these thing in mind. If a damage spamming Blaster, scrapper , or stalkers s the role yo widsh to play, cool... but we should stop telling ourselves that these are the only roles out there. (generalized but you get my point) -
Quote:so what you are saying is if someone asks me what build does best and, having played with or against them all, i give advice that i am hurting the community? your issue is with the developers, not the players. dont shoot the messenger...etc.I don't disagree, but to me it seems like you are saying that I13 made it tougher to be good as is, and reduced the "easy"toons (those that require the least to be good) down to just a few FoTM builds. This is all fine until it reaches the boards. I13 was traumatizing for some (dramatic I know) and so many turned here for advice... handing out FoTM to each and all was a poor decision IMO. It dumbed down PvP in this game, and it is evident each time I Zone.
Quote:If it's easier to kill now in arena... them that means it's harder to keep someone alive. In time I'm sure those who arena will learn to get better at this. Anti-Spiking is coming I'm sure... one day. until then though we'll continue to force Pvpers to take phase and Hib, right?
Quote:I PvP almost 95% of the time...I don't PL my toons for it. This is not a biased stance but just a preference...to each thier own. I spend months leveling and IO'ing/prepping a toon for PvP.
Quote:I have a brute named Krakel... it doens't have taunt but it still can agrro and pull players as if they were npcs. DB/SR. Regardless of whether it is teamed or not, it is there stirring up aggro just to get the attention away from stalkers and doms and corrs... so they can fufill their roles. No. It's not a sucky toon nor does it gt farmed etc..
Quote:Any toon can work when that build is proven to fufill the role of the AT. It unfortunately is up to the players standing next to that toon to decide if they will recognoze and benefit. I'd encourage you to play your snowflake build and maximize whatever niche is has. Do that and do it well and you will attract people that will aprreciate that niche. At least it is what has happened for me. -
i rarely multi-quote but this post was ridiculous:
Quote:So, i13 meant to make pvp more like pve by making powers do completely different things compared to pve when used in pvp zones? look at single target holds damage, look at basically every aoe attack, and lets not forget how little buffs help anymore...I13 wasn't simply aimed at ridding the PvP community of it's jerkiest players, but the high-end mindless approach that many of those jerks adopted and often mastered.
It's intent (as can be quoted) was to allow for any AT and powerset combinations to work better in PvP. In order to do this they basically nerfed all in a way that forced us to be more dependant on other ATs just like they would do in PvE. The problem is that the mentality of a standard hardcore PvPer is one that thinks very little of a PvE stlye of teaming and also the fact that IOs can often completely negate the need for teammates and/or teamwork. Many set/sets that cannot achieve this got labeled as non-viable when in fact, all is viable if you have a teammate(s) to fill in for one's weakness.
Quote:PvP currently is comparable to the PvE world back in I2 or I3, when not knowing much about much led to most rolling blasters and scrappers and needing only Healzors because all else was said to underperform.
Quote:It's funny at times to see one who considers their self to be skilled at PvP when all they really do is get kills over and over. That's not PvP. It happens in PvP, but it's silly to design a game where that is all that matters. I13 sought to rid of that mentality, but instead the playerbase just discouraged the use of any set that needed assitance and promoted the ones that stood high above all. The easy route.
Quote:Again "Revamp" meant we should have started PvPing a different way, but instead we just found whatever sets and tactics that would allow us to continue that same tired damage spamming = skill mentality, and we wondered why it seemed to be less fun after I13. Many left due to this (not as many as I would have liked lol) but not all, and so we continue to label things as good-better-best when it is quite unneccessry to do so.
Many view getting farmed as a sign of a bad set or player when more often than not it's a sign of poor teammates and teamwork. As ironic as it may seem... too many of us have gimped our builds into successful soloists... when I13 was meant for us to do just the opposite. One can argue that I13 gave us no choice, but I call BS on such a notion... theres always a choice.
Quote:The potential for good PvP is out there and evident. It is indeed avioded by many PvEers because of the jerk mentality of many, but not all, and far too often it is avoided because a PvEer learns very quickly that their role will not be noticed or appreciated... that their weaknesses will not be made up for from an ally, and that their limited strength and/or niche will be unwelcome unused, or simpy unnoticed. -
i know for a fact you dont always get a notification, and good or bad doesnt matter if they decide you broke a forum rule.

alot of what makes a pvp build on a squishy is +hp bonuses and knockback protection. if you have all your +hp accolades from pve-ing and just go buy temporary kb protection you should be ok, but like others have said movement is very important. being anything other than a tank or scrapper will get the attention of everyone since thats all that you typically see heroside.
your thermal or rad would probably be best to start with for random zone pvp, stormies can be very useful too on a more organized team, and of course empathy is always welcome. -
i want to join you in laughing at him, but if you are proud of getting kills on zone squishies using regin or psi/ems and mentioning you were emp'd youre not really challenging yourself all that much. definately not worth posting about.

you guys are taking this suprisingly well. i would have guessed people would be demanding the devs pay them for lost "income" or something, when actually you are planning on how you will make even more money off of it, bravo. i guess the regulars here are already so filthy rich it doesnt even matter.

Quote:what power do i have to shape your opinion of me? my actions. if you judge me by someone else's actions you are the one in error. alternatively, this is the internet and everyone is entitled to an opinion until they get banned for going too far. it sounds like your issue is with the forum rules tbh, maybe you should propose some kind of ettiquete system to a mod..I've had a couple well thought out responses to my remarks in this thread. Which is FAR more than I was expecting. I was expecting every response to be full of the kind of crap Borderline Boss spewed at me. Because, even though I am well aware that not everyone is like that, that is the behavior I've come to expect from PvPers. Now imagine the reaction of people whose ONLY interaction with a PvPer was like that. They probably aren't going to think very highly of the community as a whole, because they have no reason not to believe that person isn't representative of everyone. It's like viewing the Westboro Baptis Church as being representative of all of Christianity.
Simply put, until you stop allowing the idiots to determine how the PvP community is perceived by posting rude, poorly spelled, mean-sprited things in every thread remotely related to PvP, the PvP community will continue to be ignored. I mean, I know you can't control what people post, but one of them posts in a thread about PvP (that ISN'T in this section), and no one bothers to contradict them, leaving the impression that that one jacktard speaks for the entire community.
Believe me, I'd LOVE for the devs to pay attention to the people who like PvP and can make a good case for it. But as long as they think PvPers are just a bunch of childish, selfish jerks who only want an excuse to be exactly that, it's unlikely to happen.
imo, you cant look at one small sect of a group and generalize the whole group. having said that, i personally have seen far more non-pvpers acting more callous/meanspirited towards anyone who even mentions pvp when talking about new game features/changes, but i dont necessarily hate people who enjoy that part of the game(though i will say market manipulators have a special place in hell). noone will come out a winner in this arguement if we continue to point out every one of each others flaws and it will only serve to divide the already small community of CoH/V players further. -
Quote:dark miasma is pretty survivable but it lacks any mobile debuffs and it cant handle high defense opponents. i have a fire/dark corr that i used to duel with, 680+ heals with powerboost+destroying people's accuracy was so fun(b/c of the stupid dr curves). as a mm you dont get access to aim or focused accuracy so you end up relying on just tactics alot of the time. if you decide to build a dark mm i would go with thugs for enforcers leadership or something that has -def from the pet attacks.Wow. The idea of a /dark pvp build blows my mind, LOL! Out of curiosity, why pain before therm? I know, I know, the anoying questions. I'm just trying to get a feel for how this build will play out. Out of curiosity, which of the THREE of them, would you say is best for zone PvP? The idea of a dark Miasma charater cleaning house in PvP just tickles me waaaaay too pink.

Quote:so if a customer is a dick to you its ok to turn out a ****** product? what kind of logic is that? what does that say about YOU and YOUR work ethic? if i was a dev and i13 was something i was forced to work on i would have pulled a lighthouse and told everyone the company's intentions and left.But, the mere fact that so many of the PvP players cannot interact with players or developers without name calling and vitriol, would tell me, were I a developer, that the PvP population is not worth trying to court.
BTW. I help manage a multi-million software company. I can tell you point blank that the customers that treat us rationally and civilly get what they want and the ones that don't get shafted, one way or another. Period. The way you interact with humans matters, whether you like, understand it, or not.
i highly doubt that the devs responsible for the pvp changes here will be able to find another job in the industry... maybe if they left this job off their resume. -
what happens if you send yourself an email and mark it as spam? im afraid of testing it myself, but my curiousity is killing me.
im hoping its some huge divide by zero-oshiii moment -

I crashed a couple of times in maybe 4 hours play time, mostly at the market UI. i could handle freedom mercy with like 300 demon mms +1-2 pets out, or 8 mm pug teams but standing still at the BM truck crashes me.
ultra mode is pretty and all but the performance hit wasnt worth it since ive seen all the maps already. I wont be using it again until GR is live. -
i know this has to be a troll but... one of the original design goals of pvp was combat without any penalty for losing, vs. in pve where you get debt. also if you have been pvping for long enough you would remember that for the 1st few issues following i6 you would respawn with full health in all zones and its always been that way in the arena. it was a stupid decision when it was added back then and im glad they reverted back to this.
also, dont think you can justify game mechanics with rp. you will get laughed at on these boards. -

to me, this looks like an attempt to limit droning.
if the safety zone is now larger but drones are at the same locations then getting too close and risking someone inside teleporting you in closer will not be possible, if the person cannot affect you until they are out of drone range(i would imagine, didnt test this myself).
this change doesnt affect me if its not in rv, but its nice to see inventive solutions to issues some players do complain about. i say good news.

Quote:i used to use them in all 4 on my psi/em and people would complain about them 1v1 but imo the placate proc alone is plenty annoying. when you switch them out its easier to get better end redux/rech on top of some range too.Thanks Psy, btw, have you ever seen anyone rock 3 of those procs in pvp? I'm torn between slotting those in or going for even more +range.
its not a bad idea but imo theyre better for something like fire blast or sonic. -

Quote:pvpios will cost you obscene amounts of inf. and most of the time there is no supply even if you did have the money.I'm not sure why you are "sigh"ing.
I defer to your greater PvP knowledge.
While a solid PvP build doesn't necessarily need PvPIOs, it seems to me that if you are going to spend as much as this build costs, you might as well get the PvPIOs and do it up right. Just my -albeit not fully informed- opinion.
thermals can be built for alot cheaper than this and still retain all of these features and on top of that have the very useful powers he skipped... cauterize... you dont have to play as a healer to see its use
also, im not sure if he thought it through but elec blast is horrible in zones. elec/therm is basically a dueling build and alot of people wont even fight you because its so gimmicky. if he wanted a zone thermal sonic/ fire/ or even rad/ would have been better. -
i once did this on facebook. i put my bday in the following week every week for like a month until someone caught on...
