Quote:Cold Dom = Awesome Buffs and Debuffs. Combine that with the Accu Debuff of Dark Blast, you're in pretty good shape.Just for general interest and in case it matters, here's what I recall of team composition:
Tanker: Dark/BattleAxe
Scrapper: Katana/Fire
Defender: Cold Domination/Dark
Controller: Electric/Kin
Blaster: Fire/?
All around level 40.
edit: Not many set bonuses as far as I know; a few key IOs like Steadfast 3%, a sinlge -knb on my Scrapper, and a little bit of frankenslotting.
Being that Elec and Cold Dom have PBAoE toggles, chances are you want them in melee range instead of being far out at range.
Cold Dom + Kinetics should be plenty buffage/debuffage to take out Rommie. -
Quote:Yes, this is possible - depends on the team make-up, but it's been and can be done.1) Is it possible to kill off the nicti first? I get the impression that Romulus himself has to go down (multiple times) -- at least that's how I remember seeing it done -- instead of shearing him of his nicti, but I'm not really sure. It does seem we cannot "pull" the nicti until we target and pull Romulus himself. Since we lack a second taunter, the odds of forcibly splitting him from the nicti are iffy at best.
Quote:2) Is there anything else tactically we should be doing in order to defeat him? We've tried asking the ranged squishies to stand way back, but to date it hasn't worked -- something is shooting them.
I've done many ITFs without any tanks or brutes. And I know there have been all blaster/defender/insert AT here ITFs. It just depends on your builds.
When I play my fire/kin I'm always right up in Rommie's face alternating through Transfusion, Siphon Power, Fulcrum, Siphon Speed, Transference, etc.
And I have my trusty Clarion for when he rez-stuns. But I'm also built for defense so while I'm there, I'm not getting majorly squished.
Quote:3) What else can we do (without leaving/breaking the Task Force) to beef up? We're all heroes, not a mixed-faction team, so we can leave the zone. Here's what I've come up with:
- Buy Backup Radios in the auction house
- Buy Evenomed Daggers in the auction house
- Run Bloody Bay for Shivans
- Run Warburg for Nukes
- I'm not sure if our little SG has an Empowerment Station yet
We're not worried about "purist" considerations like "no Shivans." In fact, we don't really even need to succeed; it's just that there are some less-experienced players in this group who have not run through an ITF yet and I don't want them to feel frustrated. I plan to try to gin up some of the items on the bulleted list above before we play next.
Any suggestions are welcomed.
Don't forget about the Vanguard HVAS you can purchase for 250 Vanguard merits. They're just as good as Shivans IMO.
There's also a craftable temp power, Kinetic Dampener I believe, that gives you a S/L Defense shield toggle. That's also an option.
Good luck on the ITF -
It would be nice if there were ways to earn new (ie not on the market) candy canes to take full advantage of the slopes being open.
Last I checked there were only about 200 candy canes left on the market.
I mean, you can talk to DJ Zero year 'round if you have the Snaptooth mission in your que, why can't Father Time take a break from doing whatever it is he does in the off seasons to give out a few missions? -
No thanks.
I've always been in favor of making the shard a Co-Op zone but no thanks on the pvp aspect of it.
It can be difficult enough to get people to run a shard tf as it is. -
If the reboot-movie series goes past the second movie, I wonder if they'll do something related to Star Trek 4.
I mean... changing the timeline shouldn't have an effect on that probe still coming to Earth looking for whales right? Right? Right????? -

My 2cents -
-
I've been running dual accounts for a couple of years now and very rarely have encountered any problems.
I've done with with a GeForce 8800 (the overlocked version) and a GeForce 9800.
My current box is running WinVista64 (yea, laugh it up) with 8gb RAM and a dual core 64bit CPU. My C-Drive has ~10gb free space.
For what it's worth, I'm -not- running the current version of nVidia's drivers (I'm at work so I can't check which version I am running) and I always use /maxinactivefps 5 on both instances.
Generally speaking, when I dual box, I play for a couple of hours on average but sometimes I've gone 5 - 6 hours. My RAM usage on my PC hovers around 6gb total (I run other apps while playing CoX too). In task manager, I don't think I've ever seen the memory usage for the instances go above 1.5gb each.
I'm not sure if any of this information is helpful, but figured I'd throw my 2cents out there. -
Quote:I have to disagree; nothing has ever been interesting when it was the Borg. They were the lamest villain group ever invented, and I say that on the boards of a video game that includes no fewer than three Cobra knock-offs (four if you count the Praetorian Police) and the Snakes.Quote:Hear! Hear! I hated when he Borg became such a major villain in TNG.
Then, Voyager comes along and they become more of a nuisance than anything else.
Would they have been overpowered for a TOS setting? Probably... but still, (as with anything) if it was done correctly, it could've been awesome -
Quote:If I actually replied to random tells in Atlas when zoning, I could see myself saying close to the same thing - especially when the first message is "you gonna be playing that character a lot?"*Creating name-holder for my I21 Time Manipulator, gotta grab those names early.*
*Load costume from file, get name, zone into Atlas!*
Tell [a level 1 Warshade]: you gonna be playing that character alot?
Me [Tell]: This is a placeholder for a character I'll make next Issue. I am not level pacting with you.
Tell [a level 1 Warshade]: so rudeeeeee
Tell [a level 1 Warshade]: lmao
I didn't realise it was rude to refuse to level pact with random strangers! Sorry, level 1 Warshade!
I mean really... not a Hi, Hello, How ya doing, etc? A question from a random level 1 without a greeting in that context, to me, is rude.
But then again, I just don't bother responding to them period but that's just me -
It would've been interesting if it were the Borg. Events from First Contact and Star Trek: Enterprise could make it feasible that they could've been a threat.
And speaking of which, in Star Trek: Enterprise, and Voyager for that matter, there were organizations from the "future" that monitored and protected the timeline.
It irks me that the "reboot" movie even took place with that type of precedent in place.
*head explodes* -
Quote:While I enjoyed the "reboot/alternate timeline" aspect of the first movie, I did have a problem with Kirk basically going from cadet to captain in such a short period time, skipping all the steps between.Article.
I am glad to see they won't be using the Borg, but I am still undecided on whether or not I want to see this new timeline take on Khan's story. Could be interesting, but part of me wants to see an original story. What do you guys think?
"Okay son, you saved the day - have your own starship! Just don't scratch the paint and have it back before dawn."
Honestly, I never watched all of The Original Series, but from what I understand, Khan popped up during the 5 Year Mission.
With the reboot, who is to say that the Enterprise was even sent on that 5 year mission?
If they're going to reboot the franchise to breathe new life into it, I would hope they went with original stories from this point forward.
It was nice having the Spock to Spock connection in the previous film to have some sort of bind to the regular universe but now that it's out of the way, let's get some new stories going forward.
And on a side/personal note, I really wished that they would've done a movie that incorporated characters from TNG, DS9 and Voyager - A Star Trek Universe film so-to-speak. It would've been hilarious to see some interaction between Neelix and Quark! -
Quote:That said, people seem really bad at following directions on Keyes. I don't know if it's because the variety of, and consistent changes of mechanics makes them too confused, or they don't care, or people just don't remember to add League chat, but it does seem to be the case.Quote:Heh, that's hardly unique to Keyes. People are really bad at following directions on the other two trials as well. Even now, when most apparently know how those trials work, you still get a raft of people every single run who are utterly oblivious to the few instructions put out over league chat.
I was doing a trial (or maybe it was a task force, my memory can be fuzzy) but long story short, we had a player on the team who was not following instructions, running all over, dying, aggroing - etc etc etc and just not listening to anything that was said in chat.
After about a half hour of this we finally found out that they were on voice chat with a friend and had all of their in-game chat minimized as to not get distracted.
I can almost guarantee there were 7 facepalms at that moment. -
Quote:I hope this is the case. They are only going to be selling a few powersets leaving the majority freely available to everyone.
Quote:If it got to the point where we'd have to pay extra for -every- powerset we wanted to use then I'd be worried.
Yes, we have much to choose from already. I understand that. Yes, we've "paid" for power sets previously (ala CoV and GR) but those were bundled with considerably more content.
I guess (for me) it's going to come down to 1- How much the "premium" power sets cost, 2- How many are released and 3- How frequently they're released.
Anywho, that's my 2inf. -
New York Comic Con is October 13 - 16, 2011 and I was wondering if NCSoft / Paragon Studios was planning a Meet and Greet like last year or if there was going to be a booth at the convention itself.
Just wondering -
Now we just need an epic alien Connect 4 movie!
And for giggles... Hungry Hungry Hippos! -
Quote:Forcing players to run through hoops to play with their friends is a bad idea.I really hope the Rogue/Vigilante thing isn't the reason because in my opinion it's poor logic since they still have access to their original side and with enough warning they can switch sides then switch back if they want to bad enough.
Using myself as an example, I'm currently a Rogue. Most of the people I play with on our regular group night are Vigilantes. We only get a few hours to play with each other each week and we generally run the WST.
If the Oro TFs were the WST, this would mean that I will have to run 11 missions over the course of at least two days prior to our group night to switch sides to be able to play with them. And after the WST is over, I will have to run 11 more to go from Hero to Vigilante. Then 11 more to go to Villain, and 11 more to go back to Rogue where I started. That's 44 missions just to be able to play one night with my friends.
So given the choice of new Oro TFs vs repeats of zone TFs, I'll take the zone TFs. -
Quote:They did the level 24 Re(Tree)spec trials as WSTs at one point if I'm not mistaken. If a TF doesn't deal with trial type rewards, it's on a low rotation by default. Only Sutter/Kal seem to be exceptions and those are new. Some others get love, but this is far from a well done rotation. Virgil Tarikoss and Synapse have yet to be done despite numerous TFs being done 2-3 times, but those are tied to Incarnate rewards. Why is it hard to do lower level teams? The WTF is vastly built for Incarnates so people just keep playing their level 50s. I really wished they had a WTF for end game and WTF for non-end game.

Quote:It should be noted that if you have any Alignment merits on you when you switch sides to Vigilante or Rogue that you lose the Alignment merits. There is a prompt at the completion of the Alignment mission explaining this but figured I'd mention.Alignment Merits. These are awarded when a Hero or Villain confirms her alignment by completing a Morality tip mission of the same alignment. An Alignment Merit can also be purchased, once per day, for 50 Reward Merits plus 20 million Inf at the Alignment Merit Vendors. Alignment Merit Vendors are found in either Fort Trident for Heroes or The Crucible for Villains. Alignment Merits can be used to purchase Rare, Very Rare, and PvP IO recipes.

Just wanted to voice my disappointment on the date change.
I would venture to guess that there's a substantial portion of the CoX community that works full time for a living and this really throws a monkey wrench into people's plans.
Yes, things happen - I get that.
But I was always taught that if you say you're going to do something, you make sure you're able to do it (and you do it).
Anyway, this opinion has been brought to you by Klondike Bars(tm). What would you doOOoOOoOOoooOo.... etc etc etc -
You can enter Praetoria from Pocket D at the Studio 55 portal (there's an icon on the map).

If a team leader told me how to play my character I would promptly tell him/her where to go and how to get there.
I don't mind taking suggestions/pointers but no one is going to tell me how to play my character.
Touching on "roles" for a second, this actually came up in a Skype conversation last week with my SG. The game has changed so much over the years that different archetypes can cover different situations, as pointed out in the thread - that scrappers, brutes, controllers, etc can tank, masterminds, controllers, corruptors can be support etc.
Is this a good thing or bad thing? Personally, I think it's good that things are ambiguous. I remember the days when running certain TFs/Trials you -needed- certain ATs/power sets. Remember when AVs and GMs had that ungodly regen rate? You needed a ton of debuff otherwise you were stuck.
Either way, you're still going to have people who are not as familiar with game mechanics as others and situations will arise where they act ignorant. They just don't know any better (or they're 12, either or).
The best two options are two a) try to educate them or b) not waste your time and move on to something else. -
Quote:When I would walk to work, I would pass through the local park and there were plaques up all over, and markers on the ground as well. You might be a CoH addict if you are driving to work and notice every plaque placed around town.

I always thought to myself to touch the plaques and step on the ground markers as exploration badges.
