Hmmmm... wonder if this Mechanic could be implemented for all Powers that cause KB? Extra damage could do a bit to remove some of the irritation many have with KB (some, not everyone, KB lovers, but I bet even you would like extra damage
  2. Back in 2004, my first character was SS/Inv Tanker. I got her up to around level 8 then stopped and didn't play COH again until 2007.

When I resubbed, I made a scrapper just to get to 50 and then made a Peacebringer. That Peacebringer was my 'Main' for probably two years, but then I got nostalgic for my first character ever and I busted her back out....but I wasn't completely happy with her, so I rerolled her as a SS/WP Brute and she's now been my 'Main' for most of the last 3 years. I've played other characters here and there, but even now I go long stretches where my SS/WP is only thing I play (currently been a month since I've played anything else). I dunno why; I guess she's an idealized 'me', she's certainly the most immersive one I play.
  3. I used to get a little miffed when someone referred to my more 'serious' characters as toons, but then I usually realize I'm taking the game too serious. Heck, I refer to 'em as toons myself often enough.

  5. I agree with Johnny. COH2 likely won't happen. The amount of money it would take to makef a COH2 that meets/exceeds the same standards that COH has set would be astronimical, and based on current subscription numbers, it wouldn't get near the return needed to make the investment worthwhile.

They could make a 'lesser' COH2, but would anyone want to play that?

The current game has a lot of life in it still; they just need to keep catering to the game's strengths. More costumes and hairstyles, new powersets, more options/mods for current powersets, more content (but they need to avoid playerbase-splitting content ideas like Praetoria). We could go for years on that.

One thing I would love for NCSoft to do is make a single player game that has the same setting as COH MMO, and essentially the same ATs, but modified and expanded so that a player can customize and interact more than is possible in an MMO (think Fable or Skyrim, but modern and for supers). I wonder what the market for such a game would be...
  6. Well I looked up some Etymology ('study of words') articles. Words never change meanings over time, eh? Straight copy and paste:

The word Nice used to be an insult and meant foolish or stupid in the 13th century and it went through many changes right through to the 18th century with meanings like wanton, extravagant, elegant, strange, modest, thin, and shy or coy. Now it means a good & pleasing or thoughtful & kind.

Silly meant blessed or happy in the 11th century and went through pious, innocent, harmless, pitiable and feeble minded before ending up as foolish or stupid.

Pretty started as crafty; this changed to clever or skillfully made, then to fine and ended up as beautiful.

    other changes:

    Word ______ Original Meaning

    Awful________ Deserving of awe

    Bead _________Prayer

    Brave_________ Cowardice (as in bravado)

Girl__________ Young person of either sex

Neck_________ Parcel of land (as in neck of the woods)

    Nuisance______ Injury, harm

    Sophisticated___Corrupted

This whole thread is worthy of Decimation...

  8. Wow! thanks so much Guys!

*gets credit card*... these look awesome
  9. A Novel that centers on a Heroine with abilities that, in a comic book, could be considered 'super', but instead she's in a more 'normal', though not necessarily contemporary world (but could be). Power level can span the gamut, from cosmic to just a bit above normal Human.

I'm more interested in 'Super' abilities that could possibly be explained scientifically instead of 'supernaturally'. Think Robert Heinlein's "Friday" (that's a near perfect example), as opposed to Sookie Stackhouse.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a novel(s) that fits this narrow theme? It's certainly hard to search for them.

Edit: even 'badass' normal would work - I loved Stieg Larsson's 'the Girl' novels (Dragon Tatoo, Hornet's Nest, Played with Fire)

    Thanks in advance,
    K
  10. Hmmmm...

I've watched Casablanca more than once - one of the great classics, and because it was one of the great classics I should have loved it. As I watched it, I kept asking myself, do I really like this? I supposed to - it's one of the gems of cinema. Well, I like it a little, but just loved it...? The honest answer is no. Maybe I'm an uncultured twit *shrugs*

You cannot convince me it was better than Pulp Fiction.

I dislike most modern art. I can't get past the fact that Jackson Pollock was essentially just splattering paint all over a canvas, so when everyone else 'ooooo' and 'aaaahhh' I just keep my mouth shut.

I like Luis Royo better - that makes me a gentile?

Smells like elitism to me. A $200 bottle of wine rarely taste 10 times better than a $20 bottle.
  11. They probably regret 'baking in' the visual aspects of powers. With customization such a big part of the superhero genre, that has been a stop sign to so much.

They probably wish bunching up for AoE wasn't such an overwhelming successful strategy.

I think they probably regret some aspects of the IO system - the ability cap out defense and uber high recharge.

Body Moddification: This type would make you like a T1000. It's the Scrapper version that lets you form weapons from your liquid-like body and negate damage the same way.

Animal Transformation: You can take on various animal forms giving the player awesome versatility. A bears defense, a tigers attacks, a falcons speed or a whales size could all be at your disposal. The hardest part of this set design to avoid would be keeping the player from morphing into a WoW Druid but a little creativity and outside-the-box thinking could easily prevent such things.

NPC Transformations: Your powers would depend on what NPC you decide to copy. I like the idea of being able to switch between the abilities of a longbow enforcer, a Rikti and a common Hellion at will. I think this would play like a Stalker except instead of being stealthed, you take on the appearance of the faction that your sneaking through.

    Win.
While shapeshifting ATs are appealing, the extent of what you describe is pretty much not gonna happen under the current game engine. Greatly changing sizes (Whale), many different powers depending on shape (NCP transformation) is probably just too far out there for this game. Maybe the next generation of MMOs, but we're not quite there yet...

The T1000 probably could be done, if limited to blade-like hand weapons; probably similar to Dual Blades, but it's incredibly 'Niche-y'.
  13. As mentioned already, if you spend enough to get Lightform and Inner Light perma (and throw in some SL defense; it works wonders), PBs can really do it these days.

I always set my missions to +8 and just roll whatever comes up, not cherrypicking missions. Any build that can't roll thru these doesn't get to solo. My PB can now solo the same missions that my brute, scrapper and MM can. Her AoE, while not exceedingly high, is awesome because she has so much of it, and of course ST damage has always been good for PBs.

Again, this advice is for expensive endgame builds (mine cost billions), and going Human Only is more effective for these types of builds. With Perma Lightform you are more survivable than Dwarf (and moreso than any Scrapper or Brute I've ever played) and you can beat out Nove for ST and AoE damage. With less expensive builds, the forms and shields are still quite valuable.

  15. hehe I remember a Farside cartoon showing two bathrooms for jellyfish, with a picture of a male jellyfish on one and a female on the other. The two images were exactly the same.

The cartoon caption: "Only They know the Difference"

He's talking about how weak the Mastermind AT (male or female) is when fighting alone. Seems like you knee-jerked all this extra stuff.

I was hoping in vain that it would become a feature...

Ahhh the cruelty in leaving it in so long, to let us get used to not reducing our own killspeed, to not POing our teammates, only to yank it away

Oh well, I'll get used to again I suppose

  20. Well I've built my PB to not need the 'mitigation' provided by KB. Truthfully I never liked it, though I know others do. Personally, I'm hoping this 'bug' becomes a permanent feature. It's been live quite a while for a bug that caused such a radical difference - and it would be a downer to remove it completely, especially now that we KB-haters have gotten used it

I still feel the best thing is to allow some sort of choice between the two.
  21. I feel like it is. It seem my PB still doesn't knock things all over the place like she used to, but there still is KB, so I'm not really sure. See, I've gotten so used to how it is now that I've (purposefully?) forgotten how it used to be.

The forms are still useful if you don't have a 2 billion inf IOd build, which by far most players do not. We on the forums seem to forget that alot.

    I lol'd

Seriously, though, I wish NPC Contacts could react differently depending on your power level. Some of them should cower before my All T4s Incarnate instead of daring to threaten or belittle her.
  24. I'm fine with what they're doing with DA. I did like the mist and the creepy atmosphere, but really I didn't go there much beyond running a few arc missions there. And I never saw hardly anybody else there 'admiring its awesomeness' when I did.

That said, I really wish it had been the Shadow Shard that was getting this Incarnate Revamp - all four zones

It was perfect for it. Make it co-op, fix some of the traveling issues, give it some more arcs and TFs, add a few more eerie minions, lovecraftian GMs...

Heck maybe they have something big like that planned someday; wish it'd been now.
