  1. I think about 18 months ago a lot of people were close to quitting due to the sense that the game was dieing. The free server transfer was a pretty creative solution to that issue, IMHO because it allowed people to take their favorite toons to a server with a large population. I don't know how much money they make from selling transfers, but I doubt it's worth as much as extending the longevity of this game. IMHO, they should have free transfers all the time. If there's a game breaking way to abuse this function, they can limit it to 1 move per week or something.
  2. This is actually a very annoying issue. Rogue's "can" team on the blue side and do TF's, but not having access to the same oroborus is a serious determent from doing that. Especially on TF's. The change to the train system helps a lot, but I think they should do something different with oro, too.

But seriously...you can have an all damage team or all tank team or etc.. and still stomp your way across their faces without much of a drawback?

    ....

Not to be glib, but how is this possible?
There are 2 types of toons in this game. Ones that can start a fight, and onces that have to wait for someone else to start the fight. Know which one of those you are, and you'll be fine. And for the record, any toon can be built to be able to start a fight... doesn't matter what AT or powerset they are.
  4. This probably disqualifies me from the label of ebil marketeer, but I market with 1 toon at a time and probably 50-75% of the time or more I don't marketeer at all. It's usually the toon I'm eqiuping marketeering for himself, although sometimes I just use my one toon who has 22 market slots which also allows the toon i'm leveling up to use his slots to dump slavage/recipes.

I realize Masterminds might not be your thing, but thugs and bots have a lot of synergy with traps, i.e. it's easy to defence softcap yourself and your pets. Running in bodyguard mode makes you even more durable.

Everyone thinks of bots/traps as an AV killer, but mine solos at +0x8 very casually, i.e. just run into crowds and lay waste. At +1x8 I have to pay attention, i.e. actually use seekers and maybe triage beacon. +2x8 is challanging, I'm healing a lot, losing pets and using insps.
This is what I was thinking. MM might be what you're looking for since it's still traps but very different from a traps/blast combo.
  6. I once had my perm-hasten traps/dp defender kicked from a forming ITF team because they "wanted more damage." I sent a few tells to them mocking their lack of knowledge.

The really silly thing is as I was waiting for the team to form I was goofing around putting as many traps out as possible to my teammate's amusment. So they could plainly see me put 3 acid mortors on the ground at once for a few seconds of overlap. I use hail of bullets fueled by Soul Drain every 32 seconds... On teams I run normal ammo so I get the -20% resist from piercing round on the hardest target, plus I have 3 achilles heel procs slotted, so with acid mortors I'm regularly putting 56-100+% damage resistance debuff on a target. Not to mention I have the best -regen power in the game.

....but they wanted someone with damage? Idiots.

I gotcha. I was reading the OP and subsequent posts as if they were refering to something that came in I19 that I had missed. I do think Dom's are and have been under-appreciated by most forum readers and even more so by the players in general. I've looked at them a lot but never played one up. Its definatly on my short list of future projects though.

I guess I'm still confused. Wasn't the change to dominators you're talking about something like 18 months ago? Or is there something more recent?
  9. Did something in Dominators change recently? or did people just recently figure out how to best abuse their power?

I thought about that after I posted, it was a bit vague. Really what I'd like to do is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RqUhC231ww and wanted to know if there are AT's that hit harder, weather it be melee or ranged. If there are certain AT's that are bashing *800* *1000* over the heads of tough enemies =P or is that in the vid about as good as it gets.
That video isn't too impressive. ice/ice is pretty good for survivability of a blaster... not so great at damage (relatively speaking... it's a blaster so it's good, but you can do better).

As mentioned by several of the above posts... fire blast as a primary is the best blaster damage set for both ST and AoE. For a secondary you can pick any number of options.

However, there are some other pretty popular high damage options you could also pick outside of the blaster set. Fire/shield scrappers can kill everything you saw in that video faster then the blaster, but you could put them all in the same room and fight them simultaneously. SS/Fire brutes are pretty popular also. If you like hitting really hard with 1 single hit, broadsword scrappers might be what you're looking for... or any stalker, though with those options you may not be doing more damage per second... just bigger hits.

For someone who isn't real familiar with the game, i'd recommend a brute or a scrapper. Blasters may feel too fragile and you might get frustrated around level 12-15 when you start to struggle to survive against some LTs and Bosses (most everyone struggles at that point, but blasters more then others IMHO).

    archery/Kinetic

I'm playing up this combo currently. What sold me is Fulcrum Shift + rain of arrows on the same recharge rate.... maxed damage rain of arrows every 20 seconds looks game-breakingly powerful, IMHO... not to mention you're dealing out a few of the most desired buffs to your team as well. You don't add a terrible amount of survivability (unless you really focus on healing), but instead you increase the damage of a team by a truckload. IMO, that's what people enjoy teaming with more then anything else in this game.
  12. I haven't studied everything... but in every situation I've studied I haven't found any way to use the recharge alpha to up DPS by more then adding a damage alpha, either.

The only exception to that the I can see is when you're using the recharge alpha to get a mini-nuke power up more often.... something like shield charge, or rain of arrows, hail of bullets. Shaving a few seconds of those recharge times might make it available at the beginning of every spawn... whereas if it's recharging slightly slower, it may be less efficiantly used on a mostly dead spawn or every other spawn.

edit: adding 1 other use of the recharge alpha for scrappers.... soul drain slotted with guassian's for the positional defense is lacking a lot of recharge, so the recharge alpha slot is another way to add a full 33% recharge to soul drain, which may make a significant difference in total damage output.

<not directed at the poster I'm quoting... just adding to the discussion>

Sure there's no gypses in the US... but there are readers of the boards from outside the US. Learning about those other cultures and showing them respect is how we, ourselves, grow and expand into more then we are. To throw away that opportunity to become a develop more broad view of the world is a mistake. To opendly defend the side of the person who causes offense by saying "its the victom's fault" is borish and obtuse. One might think "it doesn't matter. It doesn't hurt me or come back to haunt me." But what he is failing to realize is that, the self-important attitude displayed by that behavior is becoming viewed world-wide as very stereotypically American. We've all already been negatively affected by that global attitude toward the US. And it has gotten considerably worse in the last decade. Little comments may not seem to matter... but the type of problem we have as a country will only get fixed one relationship at a time.
  14. Well... the ITF and LGTF. Are both commonly done with more merits per minute and more kills per minute... and they're level 50... It's not that the 3rd respec trial is bad. It would be better if it didn't have the long wait times in the reactor.
  15. I find DP to be a really good defender secondary. I can do passable damage solo, and on teams, i can up the damage mitigation I provide, or up the debuffs.... or just do damage... depending on team need. And as the OP stated, the animations make it enmoyable to play, even if its not to mathmatically the top set.
  16. I like Castle.

I consider myself a power-gamer. I play this game for the powers-building process. So in that sense, I feel like Castle was the gamemaster for my favorite activity in CoH. It's amazing how many times in the last 6 years, I'd find an interesting way to abuse some power only to have disappear before I had the toon built to exploit it. Castle was on top of his game, and did an amazing job of balancing what is easily the most complex powers system I've ever encountered in my gaming career.

I believe of all the dev's that could have left, I will miss Castle's work the most. I hope those who replace him are able to keep up the same standards he maintained. Castle certainly made some very difficult choices and changes in the last 6 years. But without those choices, we wouldn't have the game we have today, and I appreciate him for that.

Good luck. Even though I don't know you, I feel like I'll miss you.

    A Bowling Alley?

One of my alts got invited to a SG this weekend. I don't usually frequent this forum, so you guys very probably know about this already, but to give you all a newcomer's pat on the back... I started exploring the base and discovered a full bathroom with toilet and all.... I'm thinking, gee.. that's pretty sweet... what else do they have here? I go to the next room around a corner and what do I find? A bowling alley! I about soiled myself when I saw it. It's a friggin bowling alley. Good stuff people. Really amazing.
  19. Aid Other can be used to slot 3 numinas for more +regen and +hp. Stimiulate cannot. I took Aid Other for this purpose and do not have it in my power tray. I also took the rez power, too and slotted it with 3 numina's as well.

Or it might be that Bunny realized both of the things going on in the thread are actually correct, just that the method Bunny is using isn't very practical or applicable to the game. This led to him/her going on with the thread and eventually bailing it because they couldn't win the argument. Alternatively they actually think they won, and if that's the case, LOL.
I'm not worried about Bunny getting it. He thinks he gets it. He actually probably does, but can't figure out how to say it correctly, and ended up arguing sementics for the better part of a week.

But what worries me is that other people who want to know how this stuff works might log into the forum, see a thread with this title, and then get all the wrong information. I'd like to think I was one of those people one day, and when I turned to the forum to discover how the game mechanics worked, I found good data. I learned a ton from this forum and others. This is why it's important we make Bunny look like the fool he is. It's for the integrity of the forum. For what it's worth, I think we did our job here.
  21. Soft cap your defenses to smashing lethal (use a lot of kinetic combat sets.. might even need to stick them in brawl). Get enough global recharge to run an attack chain of Charged Brawl>Havoc Punch>Charged Brawl>Jacob's ladder. Fully slot energize for health and recharge... Stick purple procs in Charged Brawl and Jacob's Ladder. Find an AV that does smashing/lethal damage. Make sure they're level 50.

A big question you may need to ask is whether to run lightning shield or not. You'll get more damage, you'll use more endurance... if you gather minions up to use for fodder for your powersink to get the endurance, then you'd kill them with your lightning shield, so that may not work out so good.

But my vote is a solid yes. It's possible. I base this on my spines/elec av killing experience. Spines has less endurance issues then electric. You've definatly chosen one of the worst scrapper options for AV killing. So you will be limited as to how many you can kill.
  22. my gut feel answer...

Charged Brawl > Havoc Punch> Charged Brawl > Dominate

Purple Procs in charged brawl and dominate.

<edit> Honestly, never looked at that combo before. I'm starting to like it.
  23. Got another suggestion. Traps. Available to Masterminds, Corruptors and Defenders. It's a playstyle like nothing else I've seen in the game. I played a Traps/DP defender to 50 and enjoyed the ride as much as anything else I've ever played. I did find that for my taste traps moved too slow for the post 50 game, but it could be what you're looking for.

The only limitation for Dominators (to me) is that they don't have as many sets to choose from as other ATs, so this seems more limiting to me, but they are just so much fun to play that it doesn't seem to matter. Every combo I have tried has been alot of fun.
Dominator came to my mind also when reading the OP, also.
  25. With Aid self, there's no root time. But moving during the interupt time will interupt the power.

Also with Aid self, It also costs you endurance even if you are interupted. (I ran my self out of endurance clicking aid self until hoping to succeed many times before I figured that out.)

DDR cap is 95%. As I recall, fully slotted an /SR toon would have more then that but is limited by the cap.
