  1. Another strawman. And no, that's not a "Godwin" (another term you use without understanding). You are lying about what other people are saying when you do this, and that makes your position weaker, not stronger.
  2. Quote:
The game "warrants" open pvp perfectly, its heroes vs. villains after all
That justifies PvP. It does not justify open PvP. Comic conventions should be respected, but not slavishly followed to the point where it aggravates the players.
    Quote:
I agree it's not done well. Fix the current pvp system while its in controlled areas and server wide "controlled pvp" would work fine.
Even if a "fix" for PvP was implemented that was so good that every single PvP'er in the game unanimously agreed it was perfect, that still wouldn't justify open PvP. Why? Because a huge chunk of the player base simply isn't interested in PvP AT ALL, for reasons completely unrelated to class/faction balance. That means that fixing PvP won't make them any more inclined to do it.

And of the ones who are interested in PvP, most want to do it on their terms, when they're darn good and ready. When they want to PvP, they'll go to an Arena or PvP zone. The rest of the time they don't want to be pestered with /duel requests.
    Quote:
Anyway you cut it your always going to have clueless, pestering noobs and annoying, frustrating players.
Yes, and /duel will make them that much more annoyinng.
    Quote:
Since the implementation of AE those two things have increased dramatically anyway and original players and people in general are still here.
Less of them would be here, I assure you, if a non-trivial fraction of the so-called AE Babies were tossing /duel requests around.
  3. Adding an alternate set of animations to the bow sets would allow us to have crossbows as an alternate weapon type.

Claws could have alternate animations made with an open hand, which could open the door for "natural" claw types - good for werewolves and the like.

Broadsword and Katana could potentially each have versions of the other's animations (sped up/slowed down as necessary to keep animation times consistent within the sets). This could even provide a way for Katana users to have Shields as well - just lock them out of the two-handed options if they select Shield Defense.

I think it goes without saying that we'd like to be able to ditch the tricorder on Heal Other.
  4. Nor are you supporting your insinuation that I haven't read it.
  5. That quote is an opinion from a particular person, unconnected to his/her capacity as a forum moderator. It is not a rule. You will not find anything in the forum rules that even remotely resemble "negative reviews are not allowed" or "all reviews must contain at least one compliment".

Furthemore, it doesn't support the "nobody should post anything negative in 'my' thread" notion on which your OP is based. We can criticize your arc all we want (not to be confused with criticizing you the author, and I suspect you're mistaking the former for the latter). And we can bloody well put that criticism in the threads you make about that arc. You, in turn, can respond to that criticism, we can rebut, and so on. It's only when someone decides to make it personal that the rules get broken. And when that happens, the infraction has everything to do with the personal insults and nothing whatsoever to do with the criticism of the arc.

Straw man arguments are just another kind of hyperbole.
  7. And the price of quotation marks triples due to sudden massive shortages...

Seriously, though, this is only a good idea if you design the game that way from the very beginning. Putting it into the game after the fact is unworkable.

    Rate based on its fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

For many players (myself included), the quality of a mission's story can and does affect how much fun it is to play. There is absolutely nothing whatsoever wrong with rating an arc poorly because you think its story sucks.

    [ QUOTE ]
Use your own personally biased concepts of perfection to evaluate and shift it from 5 stars to 4 or 3. Anything more is even less meaningful than the activity within the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hang on...what makes 3 the minimum? How is it that a one-star or two-star rating is somehow "less meaningful" than a higher one?
  10. OP, despite what your title erroneously (or dishonestly) implies, "positive threads" are indeed allowed. They simply aren't entitled to be free of dissenting opinion. Nor should they be.

    Negative =/= non-constructive

    No Shield Bash?

    [ QUOTE ]
Not to mention, a Shield Offense set is just BEGGING for Capt. America impersonators.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Any given idea for a powerset may have many valid arguments against it, but "people will make clones of so-and-so" is not, never has been, and never will be one of them.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
All your idea would do is entice players to run more and more radio/paper missions and possibly ignore story arcs.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That's not an inherently bad thing. Radio missions are just as legitimate a levelling path as AE and "regular" missions. Putting them on par with these other paths will require revising their rewards as well as the general quality of the missions. The OP's idea is a pretty decent stab at the former, and the latter is outside its scope.
  13. Your numbers probably need adjustment (they sound a bit low for the time involved in getting a Mayhem/Safeguard), but in general this seems like a pretty solid idea.

    Grappling

Comes up once in a while. The big problem is animations: how do you make grappling attacks that look right on both a Rikti Monkey and the Hamidon?
  15. Gosh. If only I had specifically addressed that point in the OP.
  16. [QR]

Certainly Brutes should get Broadswords, but that doesn't mean that Stalkers shouldn't.
  17. Ever since Issue 11 brought us Weapon Customization, people have occasionally asked for crossbows as a weapon choice for Archery/TA users. It's a good idea, as it would allow for greater conceptual flexibility without the need for a whole new powerset that isn't really demanded by mere cosmetic differences.

The problem with that suggestion, of course, has been that you can't just plug a crossbow model into the existing animations. You have to assign some other animations to the attacks, and make sure the game knows which ones to use with a given character - not possible with the current state of the game.

However, we now know that Issue 16 is introducing selectable animations for Super Strength and Martial Arts powers. This almost certainly (though Standard Code Rant applies) means that a framework has been implemented to handle selectable animations across the board, even if only two sets are currently slated to use that framework.

The bow sets aren't the only ones that could benefit from this. Claws stands out as another example. Some open-handed animations would allow for things like "beast claws", Freddy Krueger-style "finger blades", and so on.

One potential stumbling block I see is getting the costume creator to restrict choices based on animations selected - you can't allow people to pick a bow if they've chosen crossbow animations and vice versa. This is probably not that big a deal, though I obviously can't be certain (SCR again). Since SS and MA are weaponless sets, neither of them serves as proof that this has been addressed yet. Hopefully it has been, or will be.
  18. Animation time needn't be a barrier to that aspect of power customization; you just make sure that all the animations available for a given power have the same animation time.
  19. Maelstrom: Argh! So confused and angry! Conflicting loyalties! And other generic angsty things!

Tyrant: So who's this kid with the gats?

Mother Mayhem: Eh, just some twerp from the good-guy world. But his twerp friend here thinks he's ticked off because he's marginally less of a twerp than all the other twerps back in Twerpville.

    (blam!)

Maelstrom: So can I join your club? I just want to be around people I can trust, and nothing says "trustworthy" like "world-conquering supervillain named Tyrant". Oh, and you can totally trust me too, by the way. You can tell I'm trustworthy by how I just ruthlessly murdered that guy who was my only friend for years and also your only source of information about me.

Tyrant: There is no intelligent reason why I shouldn't just smear you all over the sidewalk. But the script says I'm carrying the Idiot Ball this week, so okay.

    Maelstrom: Yay!

I think it would hurt [farming] badly

    [/ QUOTE ]

How? Under your system, any lowbie who wanted to level through AE farms could just do so through their SG. If they don't already have one they'll just speed to level 10 via sewer runs or something and start one.

    [ QUOTE ]
and make most ppl play the content of game until at least 38.

    [/ QUOTE ]

"The content of game" does in fact include AE missions. An explicit goal of AE's design is to give players an alternate source of missions all the way from 1-50. You have not presented any reason why this goal should change.

    [ QUOTE ]
The low lvl content is great.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It's nice that you enjoy the "regular" low-level content, but that doesn't create an obligation on anyone else's part to play it. Much of the low level AE content is as good or better. I'm enjoying the fact that I can level each of my alts with a completely different set of missions now.
  22. Won't dent farming in the least, and will only aggravate legitimate players.

AE terminals for bases, however, are an excellent idea for completely unrelated reasons.
  23. Common suggestion. FYI, Positron has all but confirmed that Issue 16 will feature, at the very least, the ability to set the colors of your power effects. Whether this will extend to Mastermind pets is not yet known.
  24. [ QUOTE ]

Now, I know the devs have said "There's nothing more we can do about it" but that's a major copout.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [citation needed]

OP's hyperbole notwithstanding, restrictions on who can send mail will never work. The reason they won't work is because they essentially say "You can send mail once you've done XYZ", and spammers always have the means and motive to do XYZ.

Giving the players configurable filters (set by default to only receive mail from friends and SG/coalition members) would remove all control from the spammers, because then there would be nothing that they could do that would give them the ability to send mail to everyone they see.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Do you think players would be okay with their level 50 Invulnerability/ Tanker taking nearly his whole Health bar worth of damage from a fall? I doubt it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Solution: Type falling damage as Smashing, and also make falling damage scale with level independently of max HP. That way, Colossus still feels it when he falls off of the Sears Tower, but still fares a lot better than Cyclops does.
