No Shield Bash?

It was always envisioned that Shield Defense would have a Shield Offense to pair with. So, I never worried that Shield Defense had no form of Shield Bash, figuring that would come later.

Maybe it will someday, but in the meantime, the only Shield-Bash there is, is from Brawl. Shouldn't there be some way to make it a little better, like maybe it gets a better than average buff from AAO? Something like that?

Or maybe when you go to the Tailor and choose a Weapon and Shield, you specify "Use Shield or Weapon animation for attacks" ?

Shield Charge is a shield bash.

Actually, I do find myself a little frustrated with the sets that give you an interesting Brawl, as the power is not really comparable to even Power Pool attacks.

On the other hand, I usually manage to get a fairly good slotting out of it by avoiding End. It is efficient enough not to need it. It's too bad that ED means it's not possible to six slot it for damage any more, though...

I guess a good Proc in it can be useful. (And I may do that with my Thugs MM)

I think it is appropriate, on both sides, that "Shield Charge" and "Parry" are single powers rather than whole powersets. Yes, shields can be used to strike, and swords to block. Nevertheless, shields are primarily defensive tools, and swords offensive ones. Before we get around to making them powersets for their backup roles, there are plenty of more intuitive powersets to be made (quarterstaff, crossbow, pistols [coming, hooray], etc.).

I team with the Repeat Offenders.

I gotta agree here. I can think of three actual moves that would be in a Shield Offense set, which is a single target animation like Brawl-with-a-shield, Shield Charge (which exists), and Shield Throw. Here is where I would repeat everything I quoted above. Not to mention, a Shield Offense set is just BEGGING for Capt. America impersonators.

Not that it wouldn't be cool, because it would, but I think there are a lot of things in front of it on the priority list.

You need to read more classic Captain America stories before you say the Shield is not a weapon. And of course Shield Offense as a set would have about half Punches and Kicks anyway. The Shield attacks could have an Energy Damage component also. Generally Shield attacks would Stun or Knockdown-Back

Methinks some people don't have a lot of imagination when it comes to moves for Shield Melee. I mean think of Claws, the moves basically come down to a slash or a stab. It's how the slash or stab is done that makes it a full set.

Cap is a MA/shield with a signature power of throw shield. He also has I16 and already changed a few of the kicks to punches.

Yes, you could imagine some great Shield attacks in a Shield Offense set.

Shield Throw, Shield Sweep, Shield Retribution (Shield bounces attack damage back to attacker), various Punches, Chops, Kicks, and Flips to round it out, maybe a AoE damage+buff.

The Brawl animation for Shields alternates between a kick and a shield hit. Not sure what a 'bash' is considered but smacking someone with a shield is pretty cool.

Have a glance at my signature for the odds of that happening.

There's alternate animations coming out for Martial Arts in Issue 16, maybe they'll include Shield animations?

Any given idea for a powerset may have many valid arguments against it, but "people will make clones of so-and-so" is not, never has been, and never will be one of them.

[/ QUOTE ]Captain America is the only superhero who throws his shield, and, in fact, Image Comics was going to be sued if Rob Liefield ever had his licensed Fighting American character throw the shield.

Also, can you imagine the stupidity of, say, Shield Offense/Regen? "Yeah, I can attack with my shield, but I don't know how to block with it!"

Finally, a shield is a defensive tool. Any strikes with it are also defensive, if you learn medieval fighting. A shield bash is meant to open up the opponent, or knock them down.
