One tactic that my wife uses for running our regular Tuesday "'Fender Frenzy" evening on Defiant is to start the team off on Tenacious, then after one mish bump it to Rugged, then up to Unyielding, which is the level at which we usually run missions, but the slow ramping is done to give everyone the chance to get used to their toons again, and used to working on the team. We absolutely rinse through spawns this way, with the odd poor tactical choice being the only thing that results in a death on the team. We've not tried running at Invincible, yet, but I think that's on the cards for tomorrow's run, and we'll see how it goes, and if necessary we'll drop down to Unyielding again.
The point of this being that every team needs to find its level, and while that level should stretch the team, guaranteed wipes on a boss, struggling to hit, and barely doing damage shouldn't happen, and is a waste of time. -
It's a misperception around rate of XP.
Purple mobs give more XP. Some people assume that this means that you earn XP faster by fighting them. They seem to ignore the fact that you hit them less often and for less damage, so it takes longer. -

Mything, prethumed dead. -
Rent is right - buy a retail version of the game before buying a time card.
My personal recommendation is the GvE Edition, but that's only for the VERY handy goodies that come with it. -
FTP = File Transfer Protocol. Basically a download site.
He's asking for an up-to-date DVD image to be available for download, which can then be installed from, or burned to disk.
I think it's an awesome idea.

Not condoms. -
You made 8 more of which level?
The thing is that for most of them, you need to (for example) make 6 L25 and 6 L30 IOs of that type before you will get the badge. If you had made 6 L25 and just made 8 more, you wouldn't get the badge, because you need to make 6 L30s. -
Well, I have to say... that's an awesome base. And I hope my upcoming changes to my own SG base do half as good a job of acheiving my vision.
Thanks for the open evening, Z. It was really great fun, amusing, and a nice change of pace. I hope that more people will be looking to do something similar in the future.
On a further note - does the UV have any spare Coalition slots? Since we sorted out an NV Coalition last night, it's not at all important, more a "nice to have".

Doesn't really answer the question Praf.
A record of were each toon is offline must be recorded to allow for the DayJobs data to be recorded.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope.
What the game appears to do is record the length of time you are logged out, then check where you are when you log IN, and apply time to any appropriate day jobs for that location.
It's easier data to track, basically - it doesn't have to record anything at all, it just notes the conditions when you log in.
[ QUOTE ]
Therefore why can't this data be used to instance the base when a toon logs back in?
[/ QUOTE ]
That's why.

If I were an RP'er I'd find it annoying that I leave my "self" on duty in the base, only to find myself kicked out when I return.

Nah, that wouldn't bother me at all, really. I'd prefer to be out in the city somewhere than have to guarantee a zone load just to get where I want to be. -

Talisker FTW!
There's only one thing better than Talisker... lots of Talisker
[/ QUOTE ]
Now, I quite like Talisker, so I'm not going to knock that opinion, NM, but it's flavour is a little too strong for it to meet my feelings of "the best" when it comes to Scotch. I personally find that Lagavulin has just the right touch of peatiness to it to stimulate my tastebuds, and isn't at all bitter going down. Of course, the stuff is a pain to get your hands on. Damnit.
And before anyone thinks we've drifted too far off-topic: Broken bottles are an excellent medieval and/or modern weapon, but anyone who uses a bottle of Scotch before the contents have been drunk needs to have their head seen to! -

I'd just like to second you shazan.
I agree wholeheartedly with Ghostraptor's post.
After reading it I also did NOT get the impression he was tarring everyone with the same brush, or generalizing the PvP community as some posters seem to believe. Saying that the majority of the invited testers did not provide useable feedback is NOT the same as generalizing.
Saying that "all feedback we can get from the PvP community is unusable" on the basis of the PvP testers that were invited, or the PvP:ers posting on the forums, would be generalizing. And this he didn't write.
[/ QUOTE ]
^This.
Or, to paraphrase GRs post yet again (from a non-PvPers perspective, but someone who is interested) - A lot of the feedback that was provided by people who tested the changes in Closed Beta was of the form termed "bad data". It was either corrupted, or did not provide sufficient detail to be useful. Therefore it was unusable in determining what further developments should be made to the PvP system. Now that it has gone Live, more data is available, in terms of feedback from more users, though it is unlikely that the proportion of "bad data" will be any less, the significantly greater amount of data available means that the absolute amount of "good data" will increase. Therefore it will be seen that a number of further alterations to the PvP system are likely to occur over the coming months, as more of the "good data" is analysed and constructive feedback is given.
By my understanding of it, things that will immediately result in a piece of feedback going in the "bad data" bin include (but are not limited to):
* "OMG, PvP now sucks, you've ruined it, sack Castle nao!"
* Zonal PvP is now broken.
* My Tank got pwned by a Defender.
Things that will provide more "good data" include (but are not limited to):
* Discussion of why ATs no longer fit their roles.
* Arena based team matches.
* Discussion of the "flow" and "feel" of PvP. Are you guaranteed to win? Do you feel nervous attacking another player? Is it too long? Too short? Did you find there was an "I win" power?
Those are the sorts of things that the devs need to know to be able to continue to develop the PvP system into something that is simultaneously balanced and exciting. Once Arena based PvP is settled, they are going to be looking at the Zones. So working with them is a good idea, because the sooner they settle on a decent Arena-based PvP game, then the real fun begins. -

Someone get me a doubly whiskey, with a whiskey chaser and a pint of whiskey to follow!

No, wait, you asked for whiskey. I'm saving the Scotch Whisky for myself, then. -
Bear in mind that THIS hit the updater today. It's only small, but it would require a file verification.

Why not give it a rest and try pointing out some of the games better features? Sure it looks dated, and the same old office map can and will get boring in short measure, but why tell that to someone you want to stick around when you could be telling them about how awesoe a group of AoE crazy blasters look as they hide the map with cool, shiny explosions and powers that actually make the player gasp in wonder at the sight?

Good point, Ves.
Alright, question for anyone wondering if there's any 'fun stuff' in this game compared to other MMOs: In how many other MMOs can a group of "H34L0RZ" go on an insane rampage literally walking through everything that is thrown their way? Ves will know what I'm talking about. For those who don't, a short while ago a group of us decided to a) play on Defiant (ZOMG!) and b) all roll Defenders, every week, regularly. We're currently around 24th level, and we just wiped Nocturne out without breaking a sweat. Again.
Now, I'm pretty much an MMO virgin, with very little exposure to any other than this one, but, from my limited understanding, the breadth and depth of the ATs in this game puts other games to shame. It's not heavily formalised, it's not based around "L337" spec - it's about having fun, with what you have and what you make. I've never not had fun learning a new powerset combo. Maybe that's because I know that Tanks don't suit me so I'm not going to roll one in a hurry, but that leaves me a LOT of scope for other possible characters.
City Of Heroes: Play what you want, how you want, when you want. Be a Hero. -
Wentworths badges are not tracking properly - at least I hope they're not.
I just gained the badge for selling 5000 items, and decided to take a look at it, and then I found... THIS.
By my understanding of how these badges work, I should have 5090, not 90. -

Everyone knows that all typos are caused by the Typing Debuff field around the Galaxy Girl statue, which is the only thing to be consistantly buffed by the Devs since the game was launched.

Fixed that for ya -
Good question. I don't know.
Why don't you test it and let us all know the answer. -
Ah, I see the problem.
Okay.
The contact for A Hero's Hero hands out a series of Non-arc missions, many of which contain the Praetorian AVs, before she will give you the A Hero's Hero Gold Arc.
From the sound of things you have completed those missions, facing off against the AVs, but because you have 2 Gold Arcs open right now she won't give you A Hero's Hero.
If someone can provide a link to the Maria Jenkins page on Red Tomax's site, that should explain it quite clearly. -
Have you:
Re-built your base yet? No - working on it, though
Made a Captain America Clone yet? Nope
Converted your salvage to brainstorms yet? Don't have any - gave it all to one of my wife's toons before I13 release.
Lost a crafted item behind a base wall yet? Nope
Petitioned a Captain America Clone yet? Nope
Converted your brainstorms to salvage yet? Don't have any.
Earnt a merit yet? Yes.
Done a boring TF just for the merits yet? Nope
Done a dual build yet? Nope
Done a respec yet? Nope
Realised you should have done the dual build after the respec yet? N/A
Decide to not play a character just for the day job yet? Nope -
[ QUOTE ]
There's grading for arcs? When did that happen? I've never noticed it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Kind of, yes. As has been noted, arcs more recently introduced into the game tend to be Bronze ones, and the old original hero arcs are the majority of the Gold ones.
The heirarchy for missions from contacts is as follows:
Non-arc - These are a series of missions handed out by the contact, sometimes in a random order, that may appear to offer a consistent storyline, but are not part of the core plotline of the city. If you outlevel the contact, you will not be able to get any more of these missions from that contact.
Bronze Arc - These are minor story arcs (though they might be quite important, plot-wise). The number of these arcs that you can have open at any one time is quite large (as I said earlier, I think it's around 24), but unlike non-arc missions, you may still complete the arc if you have started it and outlevelled the contact.
Gold Arc - These are major story arcs. You may only have two of them open at a time, and if you outlevel the contact the arc will remain open, possibly preventing you from gaining any further Gold Arcs later in the game. I fell afoul of this when I discovered that I had a Gold Arc open from Level 24 on my main, and didn't clear it until I had finished all of the level 45-50 story arcs, though I was getting very frustrated at only being able to have one major story arc open at a time. -
Gold (yellow) arcs are limited to 2. Bronze (red) arcs are limited to something insane like 24. Check through the entire contact list to see if there are 2 open Gold arcs - if there are, go and clear them off as quickly as you can, because until then you won't be able to do A Hero's Hero.

Richard shook his head at the screen and fireworks, then turned to face Sara.
"I'm certainly up for that suggestion. When were you thinking of?"
