FTP = File Transfer Protocol. Basically a download site.
He's asking for an up-to-date DVD image to be available for download, which can then be installed from, or burned to disk.

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and it's basically online file storage. Click the linky below for an example.

When accessed with a dedicated FTP client rather then IE, file transfers through it are resumable, making it really handy for large transfers.

So long as it's not like the last time it went to market and ended up hidden behind copies of WOW or not on any shelves whatsoever (at least that's how it was in the stores I went too (hidden behind a WOW cardboard stand in Game or non-existent in HMV/Virgin))

Aardvark - I agree, it needs pride and place on the shelves! I used to work in a GAME store part-time when I was a student, and would always put CoH or CoV somewhere where it would be seen, and I'd encourage people to buy / play. I'm sure if it came out to the shelves again, I could sweet-talk my ex-boss to do the same again for a nice number of weeks - he's an old member of my SG (defected to the world of XBoxes) and he'll understand and respond to my plea

Having had to install this game again from scratch two days ago. I happily approve of this idea! Would save me a few hours at least.

I had predicted (wrongly as it turns out) that we would have gotten a new boxed set at around Issue 11 or 12. We're way overdue and yes, we should get some kind of update

Yeah, way overdue a new box-set and suchnot. Im glad I've never had to do that, as I essentially grabbed all my files off my PC by the scruff and lobbed them on my laptop works fine.
And, seeing as CoX is all in one barrel now anyway, could they update the login page? Give us the image thats on the EU website front now, Heroes AND Villains? Something a bit cooler, at any rate.

While I don't have anything against this suggestion/request, I can't help but wonder how long until this image is hopelessly out of date again.
How often should they make these images? Every 12 month? every 6? Every issue?

If you have nothing useful to say, you have two choices: Say something useless or stay quiet.
Update the image with every issue, I'd say. So around 3-4 months apart, so while there'll be some patching to do, not massive amounts
Ideally they'd automate the process, so every time a new update's added to the download list it also triggers an install/DVD image rebuild.
Not bad suggestions for a download. Still, it's still a pretty hefty download.

I don't understand TBH, if you have a running copy of the game now, just whack it onto a DVD. You can then copy it back from there whenever you need to reinstall. All the stuff the installer does is done when you first run the game on a clean PC.
If you don't have a running copy of the game or a backup you need to download everything anyway. I don't see what this would solve.
However I'd sign for a cheap £5 sort of price DVD with a complete install on it that I can send off for. Just downloading something I already have seems a bit pointless...

At the very least it'd be a way around the port-throttling malarky a lot of people run in to when using the updater.
Even being one update per year, like sports simulators games, I'd sign this suggestion from FFM. I don't know what's the situation in other European countries, but here in Spain you can find the CoV release version (I mean, the RELEASE! so Issue 7!) in just a few stores... I think I posted some time ago about this, as a suggestion for improving and increasing the player base, in front of the HUGE number of WoW boxes everywhere. Also more TV announcements and advertisements, I watch some WoWs from time to time, it seems that's the only MMORPG that has ever existed, but NOTHING about CoX.

Considering how long it's been since the GvE pack was issued, could we pretty please get a fully up to date DVD image of the game on NC's FTP server, in lieu of a new box set. I'm sure that there are MANY people here who would appreciate this greatly, I know I certainly would!
It's something that's never been offered by NC before, and given the nature of how MMO's are updated so often, it'd REALLY help people, especially newbies...
