Praetorian Arc

Hi all,

This is really two questions in one so I'll quickly explain.

I've been running the Praetorian Arc over a number on months mainly solo on Unyeilding.
I revisited it last night and cleared the final missions - 5 EB's; I ghosted some of the missions and cleared some others
At the end I went to see how many merits I had - 5; this seems a bit low for 2 1/2 hours play.
I was under the impression that story Arcs worked out at about 1 merit for 11 minutes.

So question 1 is this as expected?

Question 2 - I read through the Praetorian Story Arc and it's supposed to give a Statesman Faceplate as a Souvenir for defeating Tyrant - I never fought Tyrant. Is he an AV only and as such have I failed to complete the Arc because I played solo on unyielding?
Maria Jenkins is no longer a contact so she thinks I've completed it.

The Hero's Hero arc should give 19 Merits, the time taken shouldn't affect that.

Soloing on unyielding will not affect whether Tyrant spawns (if you solo he will be an EB not an AV).
You can't complete the arc without fighting Tyrant, are you sure you weren't doing all Maria's stand alone missions? She does give non-story arc missions for all of the Praetorian AVs (excluding Tyrant) so you may have been given all of those first (I had that happen with my main). Check your Clues and Souvenirs tabs, if there's nothing for the arc in there then you've only gone through the stand alones and not the story arc.

It may be that you have too many story arcs on the go for her to get you started on the second Praetorian arc. Try clearing any current arcs you have and then go back to her.

You can only have 2 yellow book arcs on the go at the same time. if you already have 2 running and she has no other missions to give you then Maria will show as inactive.

I think it's more than two. It seems like some contacts primarily the newer ones (RWZ contacts/The piligrim etc) flag up with a yellow book as soon as they get introduced. It's all rather confusing really...

Gold (yellow) arcs are limited to 2. Bronze (red) arcs are limited to something insane like 24. Check through the entire contact list to see if there are 2 open Gold arcs - if there are, go and clear them off as quickly as you can, because until then you won't be able to do A Hero's Hero.

There's grading for arcs? When did that happen? I've never noticed it.

None of the RWZ contacts give a yellow arc. None of them. That's none, nadda, zilch, zero.

I don't actually think that yellow arcs are handed out by anyone other than the original hero contacts.

Newer contacts frequently have one story arc (a red one) which they start with, work through, and then pass you on to a new contact, and I think it's been working that way since at least Striga. Thing was, up until they added in the little book symbols, you couldn't really tell.

Kind of, yes. As has been noted, arcs more recently introduced into the game tend to be Bronze ones, and the old original hero arcs are the majority of the Gold ones.

The heirarchy for missions from contacts is as follows:

Non-arc - These are a series of missions handed out by the contact, sometimes in a random order, that may appear to offer a consistent storyline, but are not part of the core plotline of the city. If you outlevel the contact, you will not be able to get any more of these missions from that contact.

Bronze Arc - These are minor story arcs (though they might be quite important, plot-wise). The number of these arcs that you can have open at any one time is quite large (as I said earlier, I think it's around 24), but unlike non-arc missions, you may still complete the arc if you have started it and outlevelled the contact.

Gold Arc - These are major story arcs. You may only have two of them open at a time, and if you outlevel the contact the arc will remain open, possibly preventing you from gaining any further Gold Arcs later in the game. I fell afoul of this when I discovered that I had a Gold Arc open from Level 24 on my main, and didn't clear it until I had finished all of the level 45-50 story arcs, though I was getting very frustrated at only being able to have one major story arc open at a time.

Thanks for the replies, it makes sense now.
I have got a few low level contacts still active so guess I'll need to clear them.

What are the options for this guess its either;
Slog through grey mishes.
Invite a low level hero and exemp.
Drop the mishes one by one as I can.
Is there any other way that I'm unaware of?

[/ QUOTE ]That pretty much sums up your options. Just blitzing through them as greys would be the fastest route. If you have a friend with a toon in the level range of the missions then you could do the exemp thing and get some inf/prestige out of it.
Doing the autocomplete thing will take ages though.

A heros hero final mission only has 1 EB and the mission is in a cave network (the nice kind of cave), are you sure that you was doing that arc instead of "to save a thousand worlds". If you purely want to do the arc straight away then why not do it via ouroboros?
Of course if your not lvl 50 then you'll need a level 50 to start the arc for yourself then he/she quits.

Yeah it was definately the hero's hero arc, virtually all the mishes were EB's Shadowhunter, Infernal etc.
However that does raise the question of how I was able to do this Arc when I have 2 low level Gold Arcs open?
Were the missions done as stand alone in some way, in which case if I do clear the low level Arcs will I be able to pick up the Arc again afterwards?
Does the Arc only become a Gold Arc in the latter stages?

Ah, I see the problem.

Okay.

The contact for A Hero's Hero hands out a series of Non-arc missions, many of which contain the Praetorian AVs, before she will give you the A Hero's Hero Gold Arc.

From the sound of things you have completed those missions, facing off against the AVs, but because you have 2 Gold Arcs open right now she won't give you A Hero's Hero.

If someone can provide a link to the Maria Jenkins page on Red Tomax's site, that should explain it quite clearly.

When I was pushing War Crow up to 50, we did not have the nice red and yellow books to indicate story arcs. I did do quite a few of the Praetorian Arc missions, but always from someone else's list. I also did my own missions with AVs in, which were not on the arc. (Frankly, I got sick of the sight of the stupid things.)

When I came back, I loaded up Crow and there were some open yellow mission arcs, from down in the late 30s, I think. So I cleared those out and suddenly I got this huge rash of 45-50 story arcs appear, including the Praetorian Arc.

Point is, prior to that, I had given up because there just were no more instanced missions available to me. I had used up all the one-off missions and the arcs were locked because I still had two old ones open.

Clear the old arcs, OP.

Thanks for the advice, i will.

The main reason for doing the Arcs is for the merits so -
If I clear the old Arcs will I get full merits for these even though they were 2/3rds completed pre merits?
Also if I do get the merits for the old Arcs will that be affected by whether I complete them as grey or not?

Good question. I don't know.

Why don't you test it and let us all know the answer.

Indeed they do, just finished one.
2 missions left, completed it against greys and got the merits.

Nice, have bug on my scrapper that opens up another grey contact every time I complete an arc, as its 50 I wasn't conccerned but now I have a source of free merits it seems. If the bug stops happening I will be more than happy though, never done A Heroes Hero from his own arcs only from the guy who I was duoing with's
