  1. Blasters that could one-shot GMs
  2. If Scarlet Shocker was honoured enough to effectively become an AV in the best game in the world EVAH I'd jump at the chance (but I'd probably do a respec on her and then an inf transfer to my other toons )

It would be an honour to go up against her on villains side but frankly I don't know I'd ever be able to do that... there's something kinda twisted about getting a bunch of people you hardly know and then beating the [censored] out of your favourite toon who's been with you for over 2.5 years
  3. ok explain to me if so many advocate Kinetics and a blaster power: how come /kin corruptors are so thin on the ground in CoV?

I realise that Corrs are "detuned" versions of blasters with a bit of def added but surely they must work to the same principals
  4. I don't fundamentally disagree wtih teh concept but there are issues.

If the SG leader doesn't log in for 2 weeks they are demoted and the next toon alphabetically is promoted.

99 times out of 100 this isn't an issue but imagine this scenario:

You get knocked off your exercise bike whilst at the health centre and spend 15 days in traction

Arnold P. Snarflepants who has been in your SG for a long time and has ALWAYS been a pain in the butt but never done anything to warrant booting, becomes leader

Arnold then exerts his new authority by kicking your main toon from the SG, borking the base, challenign every SG he can to a base raid (and losing badly so your stuff gets trashed) kicking every toon and hten leaving the SG

3 years hard work gone pop simply cuz you couldn't log in for 14 days.

I appreciate this is not the most likely scenario but it could happen and so I think I leave this /unsigned

It would be as meaningful to ask "would you continue to play if all the dev went insane and coverted all the villain mobs into pink fluffy bunnies". It's something that simply isn't going to happen, so it is stupid to get in a flap over it.

  6. I have no problems with any of the purchasable goodies... they are completely optional and as many have mentioned don't actually enhance game play or provide competitive advantage.

I'll be happy to pay a few quid for more.

I don't even have a problem with paying for the Mac freebies, I think an incentive to get people playing on Mac's is a good thing

If it gets silly then I might have a bit of a moan but equally I've not bought the jet pack because I don't fancy paying out for it monthly.

I can't see too many disadvantages after all it keeps the game going and that must be a good thing
  7. Ah. I thought the last couple of days were quiet. Must be the weekend.

Let's all go play Max Payne

    CoX On The Mac

    This is very good news.

Technically it's been possible for as long as the game's existed using Yellow Dog linux and WINE. (Or Boot Camp and XP)

However that's always been a tad fiddly and not very satisfactory. However this promises to be a lot better and I know for a fact of at least 2 people who will join the game when this happens (and probably play on Defiant too, so there you go Standoff)

    But I do like this.
  10. Scarlet Shocker

    Seeing Stars?

Ah ok that might make sense. Thanks

Gave them too many stars then...
  11. Scarlet Shocker

    Seeing Stars?

Well here's an odd thing. I've not seen this before but
    what are the stars?

Well Malta isn't that far from Rome as the Crow flies at least

"We’ve done a lot of quality of life features, like revamping the Badge UI"

GG: "I think this might be a sorting filter, like the contact list..."

I hope so too. Sorting my badges by 'earned' and 'in progress' would help. A percentage would be nice, too (rather than just a bar) - but I suppose that's just never going to happen.

*Dreams* One day, badges will be used as chest logos.... *drools*

    [/ QUOTE ]

A new category for Invention badges would be wonderful too
  14. trouble is most of the goodies have now been purchased by those who wanted them. The die-hard fans all have the wedding packs and cyborg kits.

Also let's remember the wedding pack isn't likely to be purchased by people who weren't around during the time of the wedding. It was a fun thing but it's got no general meaning. Sure the cossie options are nice but would a new player buy them?

In other words, if you wanted the wedding pack bad enough you'll buy it. If it's combined with the Cyborg pack, then maybe a small percentage more units of a combined pack will get sold but the total revenue will be lower. So combining them into a single option might mean that the few additional packs that get sold hurt the sales of the wedding packs.

Perhaps once we've had say 4 "bolt on goodie" packs released then there may be a good case to say buy all 4 for £20 (or Euro/$ equivalent) thus saving £4 but don't hold your breath. Hell they haven't even released a single combined pack from CoX since GVE and in game terms that's over half the games life away.

Sadly marketing isn't NCSoft's strong point and they frequently manage to fail to capitalise on their top properties

The walk speed isn't the stated problem, animating it with powers is. Of course, the easy solution to THAT is just make it an "Only affects self" power that disables all powers, or shuts off if powers are used.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's not entierly true. there is another problem, and that is wide variation in leg length alowed in this game. Walking is not like running but slower. When you walk, your leg acts as a pendulum, and swings at its natural frequancy, which is proportional to the square root of the length of the leg. And your subconcious brain knows this. It will soon spot that walking looks unrealistic if they don't do different animations for short and tall characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then how come there have been instances where people have been seen doing the Walk Emote (in bugged circumstances I believe)?

Also there's at least one official movie where the heroes are seen to be walking.

I'm willing to admit there may be issues based around walking but I have yet to hear a reasonable explaination from those in the know as to why we dont' have it yet
  16. I joined at issue 6 so hard to say. I guess I grew up on a diet of Frostfire for breakfast until we got Safeguard missions and some different content pre-level 12. In a way Frostie became a right of passage. Once you'd run across the Hollows from lvl 5 and defeated him umpteen times, you had a pretty good idea of how good that toon was and if you survived the Hollows you'd got something worthwhile.

That doesn't happen now even with the Hollows makeover

On the bright side, you can offload all your ToT enhancements in one shop without losing any money. Result!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well now that Ouroboros is up and running it's pretty simple to offload there anyhow
  18. Use civvies for AoE attacks.

    Job Done

and why respec a VEAT before you need to? You get one at 24 that's mandatory and if you need to respec much before then start again f Nerva's too hard

If we wait till November it will be 6 months since I12...so, 2 issues per year? That wasn't on Posi's mind, was it? And this isn't really a massive issue, just a lot of "middle and lower class" features stuck into a issue.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Two entirely new power sets can hardly be considered to be "middle and lower class features"

Nor indeed can a lot of the rest of the content. Day Jobs, dual builds, etc

This is potentially one of the most exciting issues to date.

    Unlucky for some huh?
  21. Sounds like a smokescreen to me... don't believe anything the Devs tell you.

I always figured the low spawn rates were a teaser for next years event... keep 'em coming back even for a month or two.

    Cynical? Never!

And why Tech? If what you say is true then what's the logic behind it? Tech is one of the lowest origin toons out there IIRC, but there's not much significance to origina anyhow so what does it matter? Unless there's a plot line in there?
  22. The advantage of DTWT is that we actually get to SEE the product AND know what they do because of their close linkages with the EU game community.

One of the biggest issues with charities is very often people who contribute want to feel involved... part of the team, and a lot of charities either aren't able to communicate that - a classic case is the Tsunami appeal a couple of years ago where just about every pub, petrol station and shop collected money for the appeal but trace that money and it just vanishes into the ether. Other organisations, for example the RSPCA and Oxfam are actually very good at communicating how the money donated to them is used (but conversely, that costs them a fair bit.)

with DTWT we kinda already know that and can reach out and touch the guys at the sharp end and find out what they've done with their money, how their fundraising projects work etc and we can get involved.

But, given the nature of this game, if not DTWT, then I would probably have suggested something like the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal: http://www.poppy.org.uk/ (and/or regional equivalents for the rest of the EU members) because it supports guys who've been real heroes and literally put life and limb on the line to keep us safe. (Not to mention the apposite timing.)
