  1. Thanks guys some useful input.

Calamity I have tried an Arch/En previously and still didn't get where I wanted to be, but I had a friend with an En/Dev and that seemed fun - especially the Auto-Turret.

But I think I might take your advice and try something else

I must admit the damage output is borked but that's partially compensated for by Rain of Aggro that doesn't use all your end and has a good recharge (tho generally I tend not to take the Nuke on any of my blasters.)

    GG!! Its true!

    Guild Wars

And no CoX won't upgrade to the Aion engine. The CoX engine is home grown by the Devs... Aion runs on the Crysis engine, so to use that for CoX would involve major rewrite.

There may be a the merest hint of the possibility of an infinitesimal chance that NCSoft may decide to spontaneously develop CoX2 using the Crysis engine, but should that event occur it won't be tomorow.
  3. I think you'd have been better getting a lvl 50 and using the Mission TP to get them into Outbreak... then you'd have a lot more powers to play with But that's been fixed (apparently) now.

I also think that this thread might not last long

Edit to add that Mr ? is correct about TPs and if you did get to 50 you'd hardly need the contact line

  4. If you know me, you'll know my fave AT is definitely a blaster, and I've got a few, and experimented with a few in the past too but I've really struggled to get to grips with Archery as a set.

I just can't seem to warm to it, and my latest attempt has languished at 35 for a long time. I couldn't even get it to 36 on DXP weekend.

I find it slow and clunky and this one's secondary, Devices, doesn't seem to work for me either.

I have considered it's just "not my thing" but I don't want to delete 36 levels without at least gathering an opinion (yes I just logged her and dinged before writing this) from you guys.

    Tips/Tricks/Advice etc.

    Cheese
  5. Great stuff! 5 so far

    3 more slots.
  6. I'd take this and an "Double Debt" option too.

The only badges it should account for IMO is the debt badges and my reasoning is this: If you give a reward for making it difficult it will become the de facto "standard" for everyone. Therefore everyone then wants to play their missions like this and so inevitably the Devs will then need to raise the bar again.

I would also prefer this to be a "personal option" for the player rather than mission, so that it isn't team wide... in a PUG, not everyone would appreciate being debuffed - but if it affects my toon only then it's only my choice.

    Happy b-day you silly barbarian!

    Here's a cake for you.

  8. Look on the bright side... the game suddenly becomes a LOT cheaper for Americans to play on the EU servers

Maybe we can persuade them to open accounts here

yep. According to paragonwiki, it's given by Cadao Kestral. I remember doing it, and how weird it felt to be saving PPs instead of beating them up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    There is?!?! My bad *hides*

    You've been busted, n00b!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Gosh! Surely not, that's never happened before

But yeah it would be good to see PP around various zones of Paragon (even defending Portal Corp?) but I think the difficulty is that we get to encounter them at reasonably high level and they'd munch Hellions and Skulls for brekkie
  10. Real barbarians don't eat cake!!!!

    Have a good one

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned the upcoming Architect. After all, if you want challenging missions, surely the best way to do that is to create your own?

I think playing other people's storylines is going to play a big part in the future of CoX, and add hugely to its longevity. It should also quiet the challenge driven crowd as they strive to create missions which test their resolve.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is a good point but there's no point in me making a challenging mission for me, because I know the story, I know what's in it, I know where the spawns are etc etc

Sure, I'd enjoy looking at other players missions. I am looking forward to this because having seen some of the stuff that gets put in the creative section, I am firmly of the opinion that the stories we'll get will be as good if not superior to any story arcs that the devs have given us yet.

Almost certainly it'll raise the stakes for the Devs, and they'll have to make sure their stories are top notch in further issues.

But, I'm at present unclear how well we'll be identify "Architect-built Mission Difficulty."

    Anyone got any clues?

Can you paste them (Control+v) from the clipboard?

Nope, I tried it recently and had to settle with plain english Aimee Maginot.

I'd draw a line under that if I were you

As you are aware the epic archetypes have much more powers and therefore many more ways to play them than the normal archetypes.
I was wondering about the possibility of having an extra build for these archetypes because there are so many ways to play them.
i have spoke to other players who have all said they think it is a good idea
    any chance of it happening?

As far as I know, no combination of game types will prevent you from receiving extra months from serial codes.
And yes, free months count towards Veteran badges.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I believe when the GvE version came out the serial code gave an extra month for free. Going from memory. I don't see why it should be different

It's been suggested many times over the years. The reason it does this is for one of security, which seems eminently sensible to me.

If memory serves, that's not true of Guild Wars, which is inconsistent company policy, if nothing else

Stupid creatures, you'd think they'd figure that disguising yourself as a tree might be more effective IN the damn wood, not in a line on a ridge overlooking it.

So clearly, the others managed to successfully disguise themselves

Didn't Coin attempt this with Turtleman?

I seam to remember someone tried that once.. can't remember who or on what though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh the whole 'not dieing and if you do re-roll' thing was Scarlet Shocker's Idea.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeps and it's something that gets VERY tedious solo and very few people are up for it teamwise

Plus I rolled a lot of toons trying

I'm convinced it's doable but it'll take some dedicated teaming
  20. Ok I have put myself out there saying that for experienced players the challenge isn't always enough if you play the game as it is meant to be played.

I have never asked for nerfs, and I've suggested a number of ways for the game to be made more challenging, with an implicit suggestion that it should be optional. I would in no way ever advocate making the game more difficult for new and inexperienced players (because we want to encourage people to the game, not exclude them.)

However I think the following points are worth considering:

If I gimp my build as Spade suggested, well that rather defeats the object of the exercise. The whole point of uber-rare Purple (and yes I do have a few) IOs is to give the level 50 toon something to do. It's a goal to be achieved. Otherwise, why play the 50? Go back and start the levelling process all over again. But, once I've got those shiny IOs and got my build the way I want it, then there should be some challenges to be met with them still.

I'm not suggesting I can waltz everything, by any means. But when I'm teaming with friends or in a PuG I do find myself frequently sleep-walking through a lot of it.

Sure I could have a relatively "normal" 2nd build now... but what's the point? I can see the worth of having a PVE & PVP build but not 2 builds for PVE alone.

What I'd rather see is something similar to the way the Rikti invasions are handled, where the critter level scales to my level, regardless of my team-mates levels or those around me, so that I could go into a team on Invince or so and my team-mates can be at the difficulty that suits them.

I want to strive to be the best I can be (not much point otherwise I think) but I don't want it to be too easy once I've got to that stage. I'm not suggesting anyone gets nerfed (but I wouldn't object too much in principle if that was mooted by the Devs) but I would like to see more options open to me.

Another suggestion might be able to make "Hazard Missions" in Hazard zones, that are optional but scaleable? I've done some Ouro missions but I want to play at level 50 with all my powers, not to have to play at lvl 14 or something.

As a comparison, I've got a good friend who's recently joined the game having come from WoW - she's enjoying it a lot but she is also finding it very very easy to level (even without DXP weekend) and we've discussed this and I don't think she'd object too strenuously to the progression being a bit tougher, or the XP rewards reduced.

I think that given the response to various "moar challenge plx" threads I'm not alone in wanting something that stretches me - and I would prefer it's not an endless round of STF/ITF etc... that becomes tiresome quickly. I want something that gives me a bigger buzz in the round. Not too much to ask for is it?

    1. New player "accidentally" picks up a "gimp" set. Level sit up, sees how bad he is. Gives up and leaves game. Resources lost.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To me, this implies that they are playing an MMO solo without much comparative play with friends and colleagues met in the game. More, it indicates they will leave if they don't have "Teh Uber Build," and my gut instinct tells me that's not why people play the game
  22. I think I agree with the OP in large part.

I don't necessarily think you can't fail anything but yes, a good team of reasonably experienced players can munch through almost everything.

I got a lot of flak from some quarters for my request to increase the level of challenge, but I'm also aware I'm not alone in that way of thinking.

My personal feeling is that when NCSoft took the IP over they swung the pendulum a bit too far towards easy from where Cryptic had it. The "smoothing the XP curve" and massive debt reduction have really removed the challenge from most scenarios, regardless of AT

    DXP vs Patrol XP

Thanks guys, that's cleared it up
  24. I can't read 'em either.
  25. Scarlet Shocker

    DXP vs Patrol XP

Something wierd seems to be happening with the Patrol XP bar this double XP weekend. It seems to shrink only very slowly - but it does shrink

I could understand if the DXP gets added first and so you never actually start earning your double Patrol XP - therefore the amount earned doesn't decrease during the course of the weekend.

Equally I could understand if they cancel each other out, but to see a very minor decrease strikes me as being strange. Is this a bug?
