How to break Outbreak/Breakout

After I had run out of slots (before slot purchasing) a SG friend started in Outbreak and I couldn't go help them as I was too sentimental to delete a toon no matter how low it was.

I then hit on the idea of creating a character who would stay in Outbreak so that if someone needed help, I could log in and blast through the Contaminated.

When Dual Blades was on test I created a DB/Willpower scrapper and promptly forgot about her so when the level bump came about I ended up having a lv36 scrapper in Outbreak which was fun as I managed to scrap my way through the Contaminated at record speed.

Why is this relevant? My concept character is now at level 5 on the LIVE server thanks to the level pact system. This means that as long as I get the character I pact'd her with to 50 I will eventually have a level 50 in Outbreak. It also means that as she stands now she can make use of the Pocket D and base teleport powers which breaks the contact line.

I petitioned it to see if was considered cheating or an exploit but I was told by a senior GM that currently it's "working as intended".

So what's everyone else's thoughts?

Not quite, you cant access the tp powers until you actually level up to level 3

sorry to bubble burst.

I think you'd have been better getting a lvl 50 and using the Mission TP to get them into Outbreak... then you'd have a lot more powers to play with But that's been fixed (apparently) now.

I also think that this thread might not last long

Edit to add that Mr ? is correct about TPs and if you did get to 50 you'd hardly need the contact line

If I remember correctly, and going off a recent blonde moment I had tonight my Emp/Ice Defender, I believe the PD VIP Pass unlocks at Combat Level 3, not Security Level 3.

So if I'm reading Tyger's post correctly, if the Levelling Pact he's in gets his still-in-Outbreak char to Combat Level 5 he -should- be able to use the power within Outbreak.

So it looks like vets/permatemp teleport powers may only be available when you train up (pretty sure PD VIP is, didn't realise base tp was) but if you join a SG/VG and get defeated in outbreak/breakout do you still get the option to go to a base hospital?

If so then you could theoretically get a xp-pact character defeated in the tutorial zone and go to the SG base whilst your pact buddy levels you - exit base through usual base teleporter to get the same effect of a 50 emerging into the city zones without the usual.

Not tried anything along these lines - but I'm guessing that one or more of the following probably applies:
* SG base isn't available upon defeat in a tutorial zone;
* SG base is available but only allows exit through the 'entrance' portal (so back to tutorial zone);
* Upon entering city zones an initial contact is assigned/chosen regardless of charcter combat level;
* It isn't considered a problem for higher levels to enter the city zones with no contacts.

I'd guess that the latter at least partially applies, in that it is highly unlikely that anyone would stumble upon this by accident and, if indeed possible, it gives no advantage so isn't really an exploit but merely a quirk. I doubt that the devs worry much about experienced players engineering odd situations which convey no advantage...

I somehow managed to get stuck in Breakout with a level 50 character on the US test server once and had to kindly ask a GM to get me out of there. However, once on Mercy Island, Kalinda the Fortunata wouldn't talk to me and the initial Breakout contacts remained in my contact list. Fortunately it sorted itself out when I arrived in Grandville and got access to the Patron story arcs and new contacts through the Broker, but with Kalinda ignoring me I never could get a cape ...

if someone can't complete the first mission (which even a child can do...) they probably don't have the mental capacity for the rest of the game... it's like the first place you hit in Mercy - Fort Darwin!

well, still... getting that first badge with the help of a 50 (hero side) would speed things up. Come to think of it, it would be nice with a lvl 10 or something. It woudl really be hillarious to see the map sawrming with AMd/SBd pets running wild...

Also, I always find it amuzing to see what people can come up with, so no matter how pointless this might be, it did give me the first laugh of the day. Thanks man!

And, add to the mix (untested, theorycraft)....

- Acquire the Mac Pack.
- Keep the final door mission in Outbreak/Breakout on your mission list.
- Pact up to another character. Have that character leave the tutorial normally and level up to 5 or so.
- On the Tutorial Character, use the Pocket D or SG Base Teleporter to exit Outbreak/Breakout
- Head to Kings Row/Port Oakes and start paper missions to get on the regular contact paths.

You should then be able to level normally (with a single mission slot taken up) and use the Mac Mission Teleporter to return to the Tutorial whenever you need.

Edit: Missed Scarlet_Shocker's post saying it was patched and couldn't be done. Oh well!

Except they fixed that bug with the latest patch apparently. (haven't had a chance to test it, but it was in the patch notes)
