An Arrowing Experience?
I sort of dislike archery in the sense all attacks kinda look the same. Devices is something i dislike alot because it has no build up, was fine before ED when you could six slot for damage and have targetting drone deal with acc, but now it's kinda meh imo.
Not sure what to suggest to make it more enjoyable.
Yeah to be honest I can't imagine what would make it really that much more entertaining for you. Especially since I find it silky smooth, not clunky, so we're obviously opposites on a fundamental level in our experiences of it. My favourite Blaster is Archery/Dev and I find her the most fun by far.
Incidentally, I'm also happy with the animations, also in conflict with Neko. I find the majority of animations the same in the Blaster sets anyway, and I'd be seriously annoyed if they had my toon doing something silly with a bow just so an attack or two can have an animation different than how you're supposed to use a bow.
Sure it sucks to get a long way with a toon and realise you're not really enjoying it, but it happens. I just flattened a level 24 BA/WP Brute because for a month I simply haven't managed to find any enthusiasm for the combo in the slightest. And that was Lord Khorak so I had all the reasons to want to get that toon rolling.

Some things just don't gel, when that happens to me I recover as much of the inf as I can (if I remember) to transfer to another toon and start over. Have you tried creating an alternative build with different powers and slotting to see if that makes any difference to the way it feels to you?
This post is probably going to sound a bit negative from here so you might want to stop reading if you intend to keep your toon
I have an archery/energy blaster which has been fun to play. I usually just get within striking distance of a group of mobs. Buildup (which you won't have due to the devices secondary), aim, rain of arrows, explosive arrow - there's usually little left but bosses after that which can be cleared up with the other attacks. Without buildup, that just doesn't work because you don't have the damage output required and you end up with lots of angry mobs on your tail. The energy secondary gives some useful melee attacks for those pesky things that get in close - something severely lacking in devices unless you have a week to lay a few trip mines.
I think the secondary has a huge effect on a blasters usefulness, possibly greater than any other AT I've played but I don't really know how to advise on how to make devices work with arrows. They are at the opposite ends of the spectrum concept wise for me and I would never have considered using them together.
Looking at devices purely from the usefulness of the power set - I, personally, wouldn't touch it with a barge pole these days - there's just nothing there that other sets don't do better, except maybe the caltrops but I wouldn't take what I considered a pretty useless power set just for a handfull of caltrops. I made an AR/Dev blaster years ago (pre-ED) which was great fun, wouldn't create a new one after ED hit though and even after the changes they've made to the sets to compensate, it's still not the fun it once was.
I'm sure you can work through this if you really want to, get in some good teams and the levels will fly by. But, if you're not enjoying playing it, maybe it's time for a rethink on that one.
Thanks guys some useful input.
Calamity I have tried an Arch/En previously and still didn't get where I wanted to be, but I had a friend with an En/Dev and that seemed fun - especially the Auto-Turret.
But I think I might take your advice and try something else
I must admit the damage output is borked but that's partially compensated for by Rain of Aggro that doesn't use all your end and has a good recharge (tho generally I tend not to take the Nuke on any of my blasters.)

Has anyone tried Arch/Ment? If so would you recommend it?
Not gonna convince you to stick with your archer if you don't enjoy it, above all the game should be enjoyable. But if you feel that it might be something in that archer after all and you are on Union you are most welcome to join the Archer channel and our all archer teams that we do about once a week.
For the moment we are almost 200 bow users in the channel, though not all play these days of course, but at most times there is between 15-30 in so you can always get tips, ideas and other help.
On my main archer/devices I rarely solo but this is somethings I would to do, pull out the Auto Turret to help take some aggro, if they get to close I lay down Bonfire (from the Flame Mastery Epic Pool) pointblank to send them flying. Target hardest enenmy in mob, Aim, RoA, ExpA, BlazA (if boss still alive Snap and Aimed as follow up), some might be close enough for Fistfull and if so that into them while AT also shoots at them, after that there should only be a few stragglers left, if any at all.
If you have caltrops (I don't) you can chuck out those infront before Aim.
On a regular team I be sure to trigger RoA just when tank and/or scrapper rush in, most often don't have AT out since it's range is not good enough and I am way back at Aimed Shot range.
Target Drone and Cloaking Device the only (for me) full slotted, with AT on second place. I find that flying/hovering makes targeting RoA easier for me, you could try that if you feel that is awkward in some way.
Lastly I would say: Spam RoA as often as you can, even though there is only a few left, it is back so fast that overkill doesn't really matter. I can't help but letting off a wry smile when once in a blue moon another type of blaster fires of their nuke, then they have to catch their breath in the corner.
Hmm, this became longer than I intended, well anyway, if you want to have your archer out for a spin and is on Union you are most welcome to join the arrow fiestas that for the moment take place on wednesdays evenings.
Crim thanks for the advice. If I ever get to Onion I'll gladly experiment and join the channel.
Gall not ever seen one of those to my knowledge but I want to build another /ment toon. I have a Psi/Ment at 50 but went from 20-50 on a DXP weekend and kinda wasted it. Might be an interesting experiment

I'm quite enjoying my Arch/Mental blaster. I love the archery powers because I enjoy the simple, not-flashy, smooth animations.
I picked mental because it has a few powers that seem useful which I often find lacking in other secondaries. Psychic scream is a nice cone attack, drain psyche is pretty awesome. It has the required build up power. Not got to world of confusion yet, it looks nice not sure how useful though. Scare seems to be a simple single target fear, bit of OK mitigation. And then theres Psychic shockwave, a nuke with a stun and no crash. Not a very damaging nuke, but it has a fast recharge.
All in all i'm finding /mental to be a very nice secondary.
My Archery / Nrg just dinged 49 and I have used devices forever on my Ice blaster, Archery / Dev is a great set..
I would advise you take Fly, place 3 hammi's in all attacks Dmg/Acc 2 Range IO's and a Recherge IO.
Float miles out of reach and rain hundreds of deadly arrows from a safe spot.
Plus the dmg bonus u get with Ranged Shot + Targetting drone is lovely, try Munitions epic, when u hit Aim, LRM missile and Rain of Arrows you won't be dissapointed.
Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.
Grats on 49 then Donna, Archery/Nrg has been pretty much my favorite blaster, mainly because its the only one I get on with. Nothing like watching them arrows land as you let fistful go. What server do you play it on?
I do prefer staying on the ground though, I just screw myself up when aiming from above. ^_^
If you know me, you'll know my fave AT is definitely a blaster, and I've got a few, and experimented with a few in the past too but I've really struggled to get to grips with Archery as a set.
I just can't seem to warm to it, and my latest attempt has languished at 35 for a long time. I couldn't even get it to 36 on DXP weekend.
I find it slow and clunky and this one's secondary, Devices, doesn't seem to work for me either.
I have considered it's just "not my thing" but I don't want to delete 36 levels without at least gathering an opinion (yes I just logged her and dinged before writing this) from you guys.
Tips/Tricks/Advice etc.
