Quote:I can believe it. Two of the dogs we acquired from the "pound" were dearly loved and extremely loving animals, but would shiver and even shriek uncontrollably when they approached any collective of dogs, such as a vet's offices or the dog park. We think they perceived the constant barking and cage-and-concrete environment of the Human Society as awful and they were reminded of the experience when hearing the sounds of the dog park.Kudos for being a rescuer. Friend of mine who ran a shelter is convinced that dogs that had it tough early on, remember that, and appreciate a better life if they get that lucky.
I should note I find our local Humane Society to be the best they can be on a shoestring budget, and even worked peripherally with them for 2 years driving dogs to Long Island for adoption. I would not have done so if I though they were bad. The "trauma" our dogs suffered was not due to lack of care at the H.S. -
Quote:that would be the over-the-top awesomeness playing in the background of the arcade favorite, Spy Hunter. (oh and some 60s TV show...my and my brother level pacted E-Gunn and Ray Gunn
E-Gunn is an duel pistols/electric
and Ray is an duel pistols/energy
now we just need a Peter Gunn (bonus points to whomever gets the very obscure refrence))
what about "Walther" for a Gunn name? A certain be-tuxed spy swears by it.
oh, and you are so stealing my name! (glances down at sig and over at avatar) -
I don't follow the Shadow Shard story much, including task forces. but isn't Faathim the Kind one of the Aspects? From the sum of the little that I've read it sound like Rularuu turning upon himself. Wouldn't be surprise to learn that Faathim assisted the Midnight Squad.

I cannot locate it now, but I could have sworn in the past I saw a map somewhere that showed the Rogue Islands as located somewhere closer to the U.S., roughly on the path drawn between Rhode Island and Bermuda. Which is purely open sea in the real world.

Dead center, lowest point in the sewer network. Call it something like "The Pits" or "The Pit of Dispair" or some such. It will add a new goal and challenge to the newbie sewer team runs.

wonderful dog you have!
I'm so jealous! I can't have pets in my apartment and I grew up in a family that had many dogs. Kudos to you for adopting a racing greyhound. Mom's best friend did the same, and she's had a lot of joy with her pet. -
While that will be great, I'm much more interested in a western themed costume pack. I noticed when doing the DB beta that there were an aweful lot of cowboys that looked very similar. Having a few more costume choices, including Eastwood's pancho and Hoss Cartwright's 10-gallon hat would be awesome. And chaps. need both leather and wooly chaps. It wouldn't have to just be cowfolk. There's some mexican western attire I'd like to see, and some Apache attire. Throw in a rope trick emote for kicks.

Quote:Note to self...release 70 tarantula hawks by ClawsandEffect's home. And just for the record....my wife and I, and our 70-some tarantulas, laugh at all of you.
We have some tarantulas that would make the arachnophobes in this thread crap themselves.
Actually that Green Bottle Blue you pictured is quite beautiful. Though what could it possibly camoflage against?
Quote:Probably the craziest thing that's ever happened to me was when I was working a summer at a Boy Scout camp in Texas. When I was opening up my sleeping bag to clean it out and take it home, I found 3 brown recluse spiders living in the foot of it, complete with webs and all. I had been sleeping in that bag for the entire 6 week period and had convinced myself that the slight crawling sensation I felt on my legs at night as I was falling asleept was just my imagining things. I never once got bit either. -
two come to mind:
Ray Gunn (see my current avatar) - Ray is the enthusiastic type hero, like Hiro on Heroes. (how many times can I squeeze "hero" into...ahem, but I digress) Some may also see him a tad like Booster Gold (whom I've only seen in the JLU tv show), but I tend to see BG as self-serving, whereas Ray is trying to point out his viewpoint that "old" heroes (golden age) are every bit as good as the current ones. In story, the character of Ray Gunn started as a sci fi movie hero, like Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers, but was nearly lost in obscurity. Forward to the present, where a fan of old sci fi bought the rights to the character and acquired a powered tech "undersuit" (my way of getting powered armor but still having a costume). Merging the two he dons the costume, reboots the franchise, and starts seeking to get Ray noticed by actually being a hero. In a movie version, I'd eventually have his happy-go-lucky version of life run up hard against the dark gritty realities of Paragon City, and he'd gain some wisdom and backbone, becoming a better, more balanced Ray Gunn than the movies portrayed.
The other would be Ace Barnstormer, with secondary players by all my Flying Circus SG characters I created. Ace and the others closed down a successful globehopping aircraft stunt show because of an appeal to Ace (a Paragon City native) from a retired hero he befriended. Said retiree becomes their mentor, arranges tech powered undersuits (my signature I guess), and begins to train them to become the new generation of heroes after Rikti War I. Their metal is tested when they develop a bitter feud with the Sky Raiders, whom they see as their polar opposites. A crisis is reached when 2 of the SG are kidnapped by the Raiders, and the FCSG begins to fracture as each has his own ideas about how to find and rescue their friends, if they are even still alive. -
I would have thought Steelclaw would have jumped into the thread by now.

find out what are the latest chat channels being used, too. There are several. On Virtue this often reduces my time in finding a team, and I see far more chatter on them than in main channels.

Quote:and their fellows, the New Gods of the Golden Age. All found on Golden Age Heroes website.Gods of the Golden Age / Young Gods of the Golden Age.
Thats all I know.
I'm also aware of Guardians of the Golden Age, though I don't know how heavy their RP is, nor how many are currently in the SG. They appear to be aligned with the "gods" sg's. I did see some represented at the Golden Age party on Saturday night. -
from a thematic viewpoint (assuming a tech origin for steampunkin'), electrical is spot-on. Fire, and a secondary of gadgets would work as well. Even ice would work, if you think of your steampunk tech offering refrigeration. Mind, psy, and dark not so much if you're going the tech route, though there's always room for fun explanations in the bio.

Quote:Its not just you. There's a reason I've not clicked on the link.Is it just me, or is the forum filled with fellow Arachnophobes and insect-haters? If so, I'm right at home!
None of my RL friends understand my plightI suggest sitting in a dark room and showing your friends the film Arachnaphobia. Two of us with this problem did just that, and had a room full of people really nervous at the end. It was much easier to explain after that.
Big or small, a spider has my unswerving attention. And I intend to show it the hard-hitting news on page 1 of the newspaper...repeatedly. If I want an indoor friend to control the bugs, I'll get a gecko.
Oh, and although I grew up raising dogs, I must take a moment to praise cats for their outstanding predatory instincts toward spiders. Almost gave my sister's cat a hug the day it pounced on a spider near me. -

Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to the various Golden Age Heroes supergroups which sponsored this event. I had been dining out and almost missed the event. I'm glad I didn't. Even if Ray Gunn had won nothing (I'm still in shock over that), it would still have been a blast. There were a lot of great costumes and concepts to be seen and everyone was super nice.
My thanks also to the Cape. The WWII-era music was fun and set just the right tone for the evening.
Cheers all! Most party fun I've had in-game since that massive tanker event on Champion a couple of years back. -
Quote:this. I own several tanks (admittedly not an earth tank with their rooting abilities, I can see that as an exception) and I long ago adapted a much more mobile tanking strategy. I do come across a bit more like a scrapper at times (just a bit) but when you have teams that can mow the field of opponents without using a tank, then you have to adapt to remain viable. I've had several positive comments in feedback, so I know it works. On a side note, I've never really understood the "I can't tank with you energy blasters around" attitude. To me this is just the mark of a bad tanker. It isn't necessary to keep every single mob centered in a 2 foot circle. Taunt (and gauntlet) effects last long enough (especially once slotted correctly) that you might blast the mob away from me, but it's just going to stand up and run back over to me again.
Oh, and if you reversed your concept, and made the knockback-negation effect on the taunting tank, I might finally be able to play a fire/fire tank, one of a very few toons I've not played well. -
Okay, times have been tough, new shiny MMOs have come out, and the numbers therefore have dipped. Fine.
On the other hand, we're getting at least 2 of the most-requested features in I17: serious graphics upgrades and influence/infamy mailing to alts. And we're soon to get Going Rogue with two of the most-desired power sets, and there's talk of expanded content for level 50s. Everytime one of these things gets announced here, it is buzzed in the various MMO sites, and among the friends of players.
To me, this all says its a waiting game at this point. I know former players, and I'm sure many of you do as well, that are waiting in the wings and watching for their right moment to return. The numbers will climb again as these and other quality changes are made by the developers. (We could still use a real advertising campaign from the marketing dept, IMHO)
Oh, and I play WoW (for the moment) as my second game. You know what discussion I heard on my realm trade chat the other day? Yep: loss of players, WoWs best days are past...DOOM! -
You're just now figuring that out? psh...puh-lees

so..ah...tell me more... -
Like maybe...
Or perhaps his Praetorean counterpart?
(yes, yes, I know the demolecular arrow thingy. But this is the comics, anything goes!) -
Quote:I see BABs is channeling Jax, lolWell, I guess I'll throw my creations in the mix. These are costumes for a AE storyarc that I've been working on for a few months. Without giving the story away, these costumes fit a new "persona" for each of the Phalanx.
Note: I'm not a fan of over the top "hokeyness" when it comes to my characters or costumes. I like a more "real & gritty" feel, kind of like if it was something that could be seen in real life. While they may look nothing like the canon characters we have all come to know, I feel that these best portray a new, or realistic, Freedom Phalanx.
BACK ALLEY BRAWLER
POSITRON
Commander, those are GREAT! I especially like BABS and Posi. You seem to have found some new life in some costume pieces I always thought were rather limited in their variety range. I was thinking of entering, but not so sure after seeing these. A tip o' th' hat to ya. -
The character models on Ultramode will have reflective materials for one. That was demonstrated at Hero Con.
To see pretty much all the goodness we've seen so far regarding Ultra mode, check out the full video from Hero Con 2009
And welcome back! -
