    Assuming there is a truth to that statement, and not just a fun comment, what were the focal points of discussion?

    Be glad you didn't get punched through the PD glass floor. You could be out there for a while. Ever wonder what that trucker did to tick Posi off?

  3. My city's Main Street has won the Great American Main Street Award twice this decade (2003, 2009).

    There are nine bronze mice collectively known as the "Mice on Main" hidden up and down Main Street. They are based on the children's book Goodnight Moon. Families love to bring children to hunt for the mice while parents window shop.

    My city's most famous residents have included:
    • Charles Townes, Nobel prize winner and one of the inventors of the laser and the maser;
    • diplomat Joel Poinsett for whom the Poinsettia plant is named;
    • Aaron Tippin, country music star;
    • Joanne Woodward, actress and widow of Paul Newman;
    • Rudolf Anderson, Jr. U.S. Air Force major and U-2 pilot shot down during the Cuban Missile Crisis;
    • Tyler Florence, celebrity TV chef;
    • and of course, the legendary Shoeless Joe Jackson, arguably one of baseball's greatest natural players and focal point of the Black Sox scandal and the movies Field of Dreams and Eight Men Out. Shoeless Joe is buried about a mile from me. His grave is usually covered with baseballs and bats. His house was moved next to the new baseball stadium and now hosts his museum .

    Until recent years, the world's entire supply of Pepto-Bismol was manufactured in my city.

    The last performance of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd was in my city. The fatal flight left from my city's airport.

    My city has one of the last Frank Lloyd Wright homes ever built.

    Diet-Rite soda was invented at the Coca-Cola bottler in my city.
  4. Well, Asclepius was famous for his snake-wrapped walking stick. It became a symbol of his medicine and is actually pictured on medical facilities today.

    A very similar staff with 2 snakes (and sometimes wings) is used interchangeably with the original. The 2-snake staff has a name: the Caduceus.

    In addition, the original staff and Asclepius have been tied to the constellation Ophiuchus, generally depicted as a man holding a snake.

    Perhaps one of these names would work.

    EDIT: akk! missed seeing the last entry. Oh well...

    Or you could use a high level toon that has memorized all the TO recipies to craft what the lowbie needs and mail it to him. Takes a bit longer, perhaps, but the memorized recipies can save inf. Also helps in training if the high level character has yet to memorize recipies. Then he can help all your lowbies while gaining his badges.

    Have had the same question asked of me on occasion (I am not, BTW. The only color I've been gifted with is my beloved auburn hair. ). I created black characters in each MMO that I participate in. I've actually been told that it was awesome that I had a muscular black guy because they are terribly sexy (well, yes, I guess they are), but I've also had the unnerving experience of folks following me around (read "stalking") just to keep admiring my black character.

    Now on CoH, two of my level 50 heroes are African-American. Both were created when (at the time) I realized I'd not seen a black character in game for a long time. Both were inspired by my real life close friend Marc, a black man (his choice of term) with a huge heart of gold.

    Streetwise Hercules: long-time resident of Kings Row who grew weary of seeing the kids of his neighborhood enticed into super-gangs, drugs, etc. seeking great power and an escape from their lower income neighborhood. Herc became a natural tank, trained by heroes, and occasionally assisted by technology. His goal is to show his neighborhood that one does not need to give their soul to evil to become powerful.

    Grill N. Chill: The current hero bearing this name is the grandson and power heir of a black WWII vet who volunteered, along with other black soldiers, to undergo a radical experiment to see if soldiers could be altered to regulate their body temperature at will, providing a fighting advantage in temperature extremes. In the backstory, with the underlying prejudices of that day, black soldiers were considered more expendable for such experimentation. The project was closed after too many "losses", but the grandfather not only succeeded in regulating his body temperature, he actually affected external temperatures as well. His grandson has even greater control and is a fire/ice blaster.
  9. I created my Asian mastermind on Freedom, Saiphoon, influenced by the (probably stereotypical) literary concept of the Chinese opium lords in the Limehouse area of Victorian London.

    I have Gen Sing, a healer I've not used in a while. He was created as a emp/dark defender to team with another player who has left the game. Gen Sing was initially created right after the first Asian outfits appeared in game, and was supposed to be a Chinese herbalist with dark abilities. As he progressed in the duo, I relied more heavily on his attack powers so I gave him another costume look that bore a bit of a resemblance to Bruce Lee as Kato.

    Another defender is Sky Rider. His back story is as a rogue Comanche in the 1800s that was imprisoned and preserved through magic but eventually freed and given a second chance.

    EDIT:

    You've never spent time around American banks. lol. I support a ton of them as my job, and many (stodgy ones to my thinking) like to visually portray themselves as "solid" and here forever, by strong architecture, such as classical pillars, Federalist period furniture (which for some reason says "money") and brass decorations with English fox hunting prints. Lots of prints.
  10. I seem to recall trenchcoats gave the developers headaches for some time in design. I deeply appreciate having any on hand.

    That said, the current ones have an odd feel to them for my characters. For one, the belt level seems low. For another, my cowboys could use dusters, not the latest from Fifth Avenue. I would welcome some additions in this area, and perhap an adjustment to the belt level, though I suspect that's harder to do because of the animation mechanics.
  11. Just spent an hour answering questions, saw it hang a moment, then every answer I made disappeared. *Shakes fist at Kotaku*

    ah, its all cool! Its our 6th birthday after all. I stated no stickies so that we'd not get bogged down in them exclusively, but would dig into the stacks of quality old stuff.

    Westley, thanks for posting the "Deth Kiks" pic!

    This thread is turning out better than I'd ever hoped. Some great stuff resurfacing! I'd forgotten about the War Mace + Energy Aura picture. great laugh!
  13. yep, false positive. Had the same thing happen when I ran the internet version of ESET yesterday. In that case it skipped my main folder's contents, but claimed the exe in the test server folder was infected.

  15. I had somehow missed the STO thread. Thanks for posting that! I'm laughing hysterically now!
  16. What the title says. Since we're celebrating 6 fun years, which forum threads, that are not stickies, do you believe have been the best, and if they still exist, will you link them please?

    Feel free to comment on any changes the last 6 years have made upon the information in the threads.

    From here, this is what I was referring to:
    Quote:
    The 1930s and 1940s brought another problem to the transit system—that of congestion and traffic due to the increased popularity of the automobile. “Many of the sections ran through heavily populated areas,” says Mr. Cooper. “My dad, who ran the Garment District section in Kings Row during the late 1930s, would complain endlessly about the traffic—the gridlock, you’d call it today—that these trains created.” A special commission was created in 1940 to investigate possible solutions to the problem. After much discussion, including serious consideration of creating a subway system—a consideration suddenly rejected after special (and mysterious) input from Statesman—a commission member named Harold T. Bradbury, a former Chicago transit supervisor, suggested an elevated system. On September 4, 1941, the commission voted unanimously to recommend an elevated railway. Unfortunately, the recommendation was shelved due to the events of December 7. It was not until late 1946 that the recommendation was resubmitted and finally approved by the city.
    Ian, that is great! Thanks for taking the time to dig that up! Much as I'd love the underground exits, the counterpoints raised to my suggestion make perfect sense in light of this lore.

    And that picture Zombie posted:

    Oh wait, so does this one...
  21. that's a toss up between MA/SR scrapper and SS/Inv tanker. But I've only 1 MA/SR and I've made 4 SS/Inv, so...
  22. I guess I'm thinking of it from the viewpoint of various rail systems I have traveled, where the track can gradually rise and lower depending on destination. The MARTA system in Atlanta, for example, has an underground junction adjacent to Underground Atlanta. But it also has stations above ground.

    The CoT lore concern was one I was not familiar with, however, its perfect! Why not open the underground destination only for specific missions for heroes to clean it out of the vermin?

Paragon City is so spread out and annoying to get from one place to another in, and one of the main problems is a lack of easy transfer spot between Green and Blue lines, as opposed to the ferry in the Rogue Isles which is the only method of transportation needed to access all level 15+ zones.

    I imagine it was indeed an attempt to slow down travel, but these days that concept is very backwards and kind of irritating. They really need to add in some sort of central station from which you can travel to pretty much any zone directly, especially those hazard zones.
    Of the MMO's that I've played, CoH is by far the easiest to navigate rapidly. I can move to any part of the city in only a couple of minutes. I have:
    trams
    war wall tunnels
    consignment house teleporters
    mission teleporter
    Pocket D teleporter
    travel powers
    team member single and group teleportation
    RWZ zone portal
    Midnighter's club pathing
    Oroboros teleporter
    ...and probably some I've forgotten. I've only covered blue side, of which I'm most familiar. I realize some of these are earned, some bought, and some dependent on others, but there's still a lot of speed and choices available to a seasoned character. Even a new character has a lot of movement potential nowadays, especially since they can access the RWZ which puts Atlas Park "close" to Founder's Falls Green Line.

    We can't really do comparisons to other MMO's here, which is too bad because the time sinks elsewhere are spectacular. Here it is a minor annoyance at times.

    As for the costume change, no idea. Probably something neat!
    I'd go for this, but also agree with Kheldarn for Steampunk. But I also build a lot from the pulp and radio era of comic heroes, so I'd ask for Dieselpunk as well. Assuming we only get one, then a gadget-based set with steampunk, dieselpunk, and modern pieces.

    As for the costume change you're looking for, I'd suggest "encase" where the piece rapidly snap over the current costume, like super powered armor encasing each limb and then torso and head. Or perhaps "scan" where a 2D square of light drops through your character digitizing them into a shimmering pattern, then a second 2D sheet drops through your character establishing the new costume.

    I'd also like to suggest wild west and colonial/patriotic packs. The former, especially since I've seen many cowboy attempts over the years. wild west can also include elements of mexican, chinese, and native american as well as "weird wild west" which harks back to steampunk a bit. I'll be happy if they give me a pancho, and Clint Eastwood's hat.
  25. Its been quite a while since I did that quest line, and memory is fuzzy, but I believe what you are seeing is a 3-D puzzle of sorts. There are tunnels under several of the spots in Faultline, and your marker may only be showing the 2D location of the entrance. You may need to nose around for a way down.

    I used to have such problem as a newbie years ago with Skyway. I sent a request for help in-game and a GM came to assist me.
