Sorry DW, but Cali's is bad job straights too. And they're talking about a tax increase which will only make things worse before they get better.

DW,

what region of SC are you in? Upstate, Midlands, Low Country?

DW... Good Luck on your hunt... It's tough almost everywhere...

If you can, ride out the storm where you are... because jumping ship can sometimes drop you in a circle of sharks...

Be safe... and again, good luck!

I'm in the upstate, lil town called Greenwood.

Tell you the truth tho, the sharks might be a more lucrative business than the ship.

I know Greenwood fairly well. I service old pc equipment at banks there and in nearby Ninety Six.

I see you have some computer skills. I'll PM you with a few IT recruiting contacts from the Upstate. Perhaps one of them can help.

I hate to see a good friend in need. I know how it is i also will be w/o a job as of Sunday. The Wisconsin job market is trash but not sure if i want to move yet. This is a great state. If i hear of anything i'll let you know. Best of luck my friend.

Ninety-Six is the site of a great many Revolutionary War battles between the Tories and the Patriots out of Georgia. If one were to examine the Revolutionary War in the South, you could almost say it was our first Civil War. It was neighbor against neighbor, American born vs. American born.

*gently sets thread back on track*

I hope you find something that suits you, or find a reason to stay where you are. Either way, happiness and contentment are important!

Thanka everyone for the words. And yes gel you absolutely right about ninety six. I live in between that and abbeville sc, where the civil war "began".

and thanks for any help you can give Ro!

...Bulldogs vs. Gamecocks!

I'm pleased to see someone else knows about Ninety Six and its Star Fort. I'm overdue for a revisit to the Park. I like visiting several of the Revolution and Civil War sites around the state. Ninety Six's history really quite interesting, and I'm amazed at how many native to the area have never heard of it. George Washington's Second-in-Command, Nathaniel Green, spent some time down that way.

If any reading this wonders why the town is called "Ninety Six", you're not alone. I often see South Carolinians bewildered by the name . It was on a trail (which can still be seen) at a point that was (mistakenly believed) to be ninety six miles from a major Cherokee trading town.

Most people around here thinks its for the population, but they have way less people than that (inside joke)

Thanks Rod for all the contact numbers, I am currently putting a portfolio together to show the recruiters, but seriously thank you so much

I know what you mean about the population at Ninety Six. lol. At the bank I service, employees know all their customers, not just by name, but for life. Being a "Mayberry" kind of town can be a good thing!

You're certainly welcome for the info, and I wish you well in the search. Hopefully others in the SC area will have something else to aid you, too.

Looks like you're about an hour or so from Augusta, GA. Have you considered checking with players from that direction?

Heeyy....when I was at my first job at a small medical billing company we had an "office" in Greenwood.

Office being a subjective term since it was just like 2-4 people in an upstairs house (from what I've been told)....not at that job anymore though....

I was there with you in the "need for a job"...finally got one but...uh...yeah...think the main reason why I am staying at this job now is that it offers full tuition re-imbursement....always nice. Go back to college get my BS degree and maybe get a better job....we'll see.

Good luck to ya!

dude, that's really interesting. I looked into this today and thought about registering to become a guide. I could totally register for "specialist" in the Star Wars category (if they had one)! LOL I might hit you up so you can get the reference credit if I do it. I could certainly use the extra cash since I need to get a new motherboard, 4 more GBs of RAM, I want to SLI bridge my GTX 275, etc etc etc

The specialists jobs go pretty in depth... you could even be a specialist for Dead Baby jokes.

I have been working with them today and you do get some interesting questions. I already had someone ask me to call them.

Someone gets paid to specialize in answering questions about Dead Baby jokes? That's really weird, and....I'm in the wrong profession.

I just gotta say that in all my years playing CoH I never thought I would see a conversation about Ninety-Six appear on the official forums. My family hails originally from that town as Dead could attest but fortunately by the time I came along we had migrated to the "Big City" of Greenwood. Other than the usual small town wonder and memories of running around Star Fort as a cub scout during Revolutionary War reenactments the main thing I remember is that they had really awesome chili dogs. Sorry had to share....

As far as getting a job Dead...we'll talk later.

Now now you have me wanting a Ninety Six chili dog... and the Ninety Six branch of the bank hasn't called me for service in a couple of weeks.

I just wish I could remember the name of that little hole in the wall that made them. I'm stuck in Ft. Knox KY so I feel your pain.... a good chili dog is hard to come by these days. It seems like Chicago style dogs are on the rise in popularity.

Had a popular restaurant in my southern town offered a Chicago style hot dog. I saw one and it looked authentic, so I asked the folks preparing them: "Does it have celery salt?"
"No"
I teased that it wasn't authentic (some folks debate the use of celery salt) "Its not a Chicago dog if it doesn't have a Vienna dog and celery salt".
"Uh, Vienna dog?"
*facepalm* (Vienna brand dogs are essential)

As to good chili dogs, we've got a few good hole-in-the-wall joints here. The best is Tanner's Big Orange. Veggies with your meal there consist of cole slaw on the sandwich or hot dog, onion rings, or a wax bag of the biggest, tastiest, fresh-roasted red skin peanuts. Tanners is know for its chili dogs, peanuts, and fantastic house-brand fruit juices.
