I demand that u gve us advnce notice of any unplanned system outages - at lst 24hours, but ideally a couple of days to let me re-arrange my social life (or lack of)
I've actually heard this from the upper echelons at work (real life engine, build 1) -
I can't comment on the comparison between Hero and Villain Epics, as I've not yet got a villain to 50 (it took me long enough to get a hero there). However, I share some of your sentiments regarding the Hero Epics.
To be honest, after all the slog of getting Robo to 50, I was expecting the 'reward' - the unlockable Epics - to be a bit more, well, Epic.
Now, I've not gotten either the WS or PB I rolled above lvl10 yet, so perhaps there's more to discover, but I don't enjoy playing them. To be honest, I don't see much difference between either really - both are fairly (at least at their current levels) mediocre blasters, with some self buff, and slight melee powers. The form/shape shifting thing is a neat trick, but the novelty soon wore off on me.
My biggest grief with the hero epics though is the fixed powersets - there's not much room for experimentation when rolling either a PB or WS. If you team with a PB/WS, then you pretty much know what you're going to get (at the low levels at least). If you team with a tank, you're going to get all sorts of potential combinations of powers (for example)
Although, that's just my own opinion based on my limited experience with the ATs. Others may have found the spec of these to be more fun, or have stuck with it, and are reaping rewards to be found at the higher levels. -
I'm not sure if the game already offers some sort of mechanism for this (I suspect one of the forum cartel will be able to confirm), but you might want to consider making a post about this on GhostRaptor's QoL thread on the suggestions board.
I don't have any problems with control of the game myself, but I can see how this would be of benefit for others. So, I'll /sign this if needed !
Just spitballing here, but If a mechanism doesn't already exist, perhaps this could be a series of bind commands. Something along the lines of 'interact', although there'd have to be some range & line of sight check involved, I'd guess. -

I've been on the look out for a laptop myself, and recalled seeing that machine on the PcPro site. I'd recommend the site if you're looking for reviews - I've found it quite a usefull resource. They're not a gaming specific magazine, but they do carry out 3D benchmarks on most reviews. -

I tend to go with whatever fits the concept really. Robotank has the axe, but because it fits his concept. Shadowcall has Mu, but he's a Dark Stalker, so another dark power seemed to fit.
A good (or possibly bad) example is one of my least used toons - Cloudwalker. Cloud is a dark/inv Scrapper, and currently (at least the last time I looked) has 3 versions of what is pretty much the same power: Shadow Maul, Sands of Mu (Vet) and Sands of Mu (Temp from mission). When I do play him, I can cycle between all 3 of the variants, generally without having to use anything else. Possibly not the most creative of tactics, but it's entertaining.
So, I'd take either really, dependant on concept. Sure, the Axe's bonus might not be applicable against all foes, but it still does some damage (always good as a finishing move, if nothing else). -
I hear you on this. The wider caves, for example those in the Hollows, I'm ok with. It's the smaller mines/council maps that mess me up.
There's a specific Council map 'part' with various pools on about 3 different levels, with mezzanine floors between them. Absolute pain in the perverbial when it's a 'clear map' mission.
I can't say I get motion sickness in game, just a bit wound up when I'm trying to orientate myself. I do get motion sickness when trying to read on car journeys though (as Mother said, it's all about your centre of gravity being out of kilt with what you're doing), this despite having spent many years working at sea, where I had no problems reading or working in all sorts of weather conditions...
going back to my corner now...
edited post for frankly shocking spelling -
I clearly wasn't trying hard enough
I note some folks got characters from 1 - 50 over the weekend? Crikey!
Anyway, spent the weekend villain side - got Shadowcall from low teens to lvl21. Not as high as I was aiming for, but not bad either. Didn't really get that much influence, depsite storming through several mini-arcs. I guess the problem was that I was soloing it for most of the weekend. I did join a couple of PuGs but only for short periods. I managed to get a Kismet: Accuracy recipie thoug, which made me a tidy profit. Nice!
highlight of the weekend though was getting the Surging badge from taking down Deathsurge. Good fun!, and a blur of FX
Missed opportunity for me then. Like I say, probably because I didn't get much teaming in - it seemed that everytime I managed to get PuG, something in RL caused me to have to logout for a bit.
Thanks to those I did team up with, especially the gang who took on Deathsurge. -

This. Definitely this. The TP would be instant, to allow more dynamic action.
Also, as others have said, a telekenetic set - all the bells and whistles. including power(s) that allow you to just throw anything in the game at a foe; and another that allows you to throw some knockback at a mob, from a distance. (Like the force push/pull in Jedi Outcast)
I could go on for a long time on this... -

I'm not sure what the official response was, but I know it's been discussed / suggested before.
One of the others around here will probably know the official stance on this. In fact I'm suprised no one has pounced on this yet
I guess you'd need a lot more content for another ten levels, especially considering how much XP you'd need to earn. I'm not sure if I'd personally want to go through any more grind with Robotank (my only lvl50 to date),as it took a hell of a long time to get him to 50 (3+ years). However, that's my view on this - I know others have levelled a quicker rate than me, so they might be more keen on this.
edit: see, I knew someone would respond before me... -
Nice idea. The descriptions for the existing origin power pools all seem to suggest that the power is part of a wider set, and this would seem to fit well with your idea. It'll also be another reason to start using the stores again.
Perhaps, rather than have them available at lvl25, you could earn (or get access to) each one as you hit a milestone - say lvls 10, 20, 30, 40. Just running with the idea here.
Good idea! -
Some nice ideas there. I'm not much of a controller type, so can't comment on how well this fits the AT, but again some nice ideas in there.
-
Yep, good idea - more costume options are always welcome.
Isn't this the point where we make some positive comment about Jay? -
I lit the blue touch paper...
Look what happens when you post something and then go away for a couple of days. Nice to see a good bit of debate on this, and all still very constructive.
Clearly, there's some passionate thoughts on the this subject, and we are verging very closely to what I call Predator 2 territory here:
Back at Uni (a lonnnng time ago now) a bunch of us were watching said film. Gary Busey and Danny Glover were chasing an Invisible Alien (with a shoulder mounted rocket launcher), using some kind of special dye, and freeze throwing guns. Someone fires one of the freeze guns at a sprinkler, setting off all the sprinklers, washing away the special dye. It's at this point that one of my housemates pipes up and says "That wouldn't happen, it's cold"...
It's all about suspension of disbelief really. We're quite happy to accept invisible aliens, freeze throwers, etc.. but if something 'normal' doesn't work as expected, we're straight on it. I'm just as bad for it myself...
I guess my point to this (I know I had one when I started this epic) is that, it's all down to interpretation really. I designed the set to be specifically tech in nature, but not exclusively for the Tech / Science origins. I just assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that most people would adapt the concept to fit their character's back story, or would just roll a character, and not worry too much about whether or not it makes any sense.
There's no right answer here I guess - it's all down your own interpretation of how things work, and how you play the game. Again, it's all good debate, regardless on your own point of view.
Thanks guys, keep it up!
Right, where's me spandex ? -

Like the concept, and powers, but suspect it might be a bit too specific for implementation.
[/ QUOTE ]
I had considered this, it is very tech orientated, and perhaps some of the descriptions I've used are biased towards a tech origin, but one of my intentional aims was to make something that was slightly techie anyway.
On the flip side, dark armour, for example lends itself more to a magical or natural origin, but you can still roll a techie tanker with that dark powers, should you wish.
I did take into consideration how this would fit outside of a character who wasn't of tech origin, and i'll admit it's not a totally generic set, but I did consider other powersets, and examples in other titles.
Although tech heavy, with enough twist of the imagination, you could still have another origin pick up this power. In comic book lore (not that I'm an expert) Wolverine is a mutant based hero, but part (although not all) of his make up is the 'implanted' metal grafted onto his skeleton. (I'm sure I'll get flamed for my interpretation of that)
Of course, it's all theoretical. I often have to remind myself that we're dealing with a game where flying, teleportation, raising the dead, time travel, parallel dimensions etc... are all considered 'everyday'. I'd like to think that in the CoX world, logic and physics can easily be worked around (at the concept level anyway).
Anyway, all constructive comments so far folks, which is allways good to see. -
After getting Robotank to 50, I was beginning to think about how he was created. I'll not deny that I got the idea from watching Robocop, but when I rolled Robotank, there wasn't really any powersets that fitted the concept.
Of late, I've been thinking about a new defensive set - A Tanker primary, or Scrapper/Brute/Stalker secondary. The idea comes from what i'd liked to have had for Robo when I rolled him, but I like to think the set also offers something different from others.
Anyway, enough with the pre-amble, here's the do:
-----------------------------------------------------------
[u]Implants[u]
Through a series of medical procedures you have acquired a comprehensive set of bionic implants. Rather than grant
any new 'powers', these implants improve your body's natural abilities, with each implant technology focusing on a specific area. The implants offer a broad range of powers, across defence and resistance, as well as providing other secondary benefits. One of the few powersets to offer resistance to Psionic damage, the technological improvements essentially allow you to either avoid attacks, or be largely unaffected by them.
A reliance on technology however offers little protection against most energy attacks, especially electrical based
powers. Your delicately balanced circuits are also prone to damage from heat sources.
1 Subdermal Plating +RES (Physical Damage) [Auto]
1 Sensory enhancement +DEF (All but energy), +ACC +TOHIT +Perception [Auto]
2 Nanites Self Heal, Temporary Regen rate boost [click]
6 Cerebral Framework +RES (Psionic, Sleep, Confuse, Fear) [auto]
8 Electroactive Polymers +DEF (All but energy), +SPD, +JUMP, +RES(holds) [toggle]
12 Respirocytes +Recovery, +End (temp), +Res(toxic,fire) [click]
18 Magnetic resonance +DEF (Lethal, Smash, Knockback, Stun) [toggle]
26 Reboot Self Rez, special [click]
32 Overclock +Regen +Rech +Acc +ToHit +Perception, +Dam [click]
Subdermal Plating (Auto)
Effects: Self +Resist (Physical Damage)
A layer of impervium plating inserted below your skin offers you basic resistance to most physical damage. As a
physical enhancement, subdermal plating will absorb damage from physical attacks, but offers little resistance to
non-physical damage.
Sensory Enhancements (Auto)
Effects: Self +Defence (All but energy)
Self +ACC
self +Perception
Self +ToHit
Retinal, Cochlear and other implants grant you an advanced sensory perception, granting you a broad range of
benefits. All five of your main senses have been improved. Not only can you see your targets more clearly, you'll be
able to hit them more often. Your enhanced perception also allows you to react to most events - you won't be able to
dodge every bullet or punch, but you'll stand a better chance than most. Whilst your reaction times are greater,
some attacks will still get through.
Nanites (Click)
Effects: Self Heal
Temporary Regeneration Increase
Internal plants release a small army of nanites, programmed to replicate the behaviour of white blood cells. These
nanites will allow you to instantly recover a large portion of your health. The nanites will break down after a
short period, but will continue to regenerate any damaged tissues whilst in circulation.
Cerebral Framework (Auto)
Effects: Self +Resist (Psionic, Confuse, Fear, Sleep, Hold)
Your cerebral activity has been enhanced with a series of nano level electronics. These circuits act as a back up
when any of your higher brain functions should fail. This grants you an innate resistance to almost all attacks on
your mind. The logic circuits mean that you're not easily tricked, and illusionary attacks and other fear powers
will have to be convincing enough to break the resistance
Electroative Polymers (Click)
Effects: Self +Defence (All but energy)
+SPD
+JMP
Self +Resistance (Holds, Imob)
A series of EAPs in your muscular framework can be activated for a short time, granting you increased anaerobic
performance for a few seconds. You can break free of all but the most powerful holds, and overcome any
imobilisation or slowing attacks. EAPs are ionic, require a large amount of power, and will burn out if used for a
prolonged period of time. Long recharge
Respirocytes (click)
Effects: Self +Recovery
+Endurance (Temp)
Self +Resistance(Toxic)
Your internal plants release a swarm of respirocytes into your blood stream. For short period of time, you can
overcome muscle fatigue from anaerobic respiration at an enhanced rate, and at the same time increase your overall
endurance. The Respirocytes have a short life span, and will eventually break down, whereby your recovery rate and
endurance limit will reduce to normal levels
Magnetic Resonance (Toggle)
Effects: Self +Defence (All but electric, dark)
Minor PbAoE (short range, electric)
You activate a circuit of magnetic generators that produce a short range magnetic resonance field around your body.
Most physical attacks will simply be diverted by what is in effect a short range force field. However, whilst this
is an effective defence, the magnetic field also causes a small amount of electrical damage to all nearby foes. This
damage isn't enough to make a difference, but it will certainly get their attention. Essentially, a taunt.
Although effective against physical attacks, most non physical attacks won't be affected by this.
Reboot (Click)
Effects: Self Resurrect
Self Stun
If all else fails, and you're taken out, you can rely upon your augmentations to take over, and effectively restart
your systems - your respiratory system will be reactivated, and your implants will provide basic defence. You'll
have 50% of your health and endurance back shortly after being resurrected, but the process may overload your
circuits, leaving you stunned for a short period.
Overclock (Click)
Effects: +Regen +Rech +Acc +ToHit +Perception, +Dam
You activate all of your implanted technology, and run each implant at a maximum capacity for a brief period. Your
sensory perception, regeneration and recharge rates are increased, activation times are reduced. Overclocking your
systems also slightly increases your damage rate as your EAPs are also activated. However, the intense heat
generated from overclocking your systems limits the time you can safely do this, and your systems will shutdown
after a period of time. You'll not suffer from any health or endurance drain (other than that incurred during
activation), but your systems will go into safe mode as they cool down.
All toggle powers will deactivate (all pools), you'll suffer from reduced performance without your implants.
Accuracy, tohit, defence, damage resistance, and recharge times will all be reduced for a period of time. Others may
heal you, but you won't be able to activate any of your implant powers during this time.
------------------------------------------------------------
So there you go. I was trying to stick to a robotic/bionic theme with the set. To me it makes sense that a technology themed alt would be immune (or at least more resistant) to psionic attack (like the clockwork), but at the same time, have less resistance to energy attacks, especially electrical attacks.
The tier numbers above are based on the pool as a Tanker primary, but can be adjusted to be a secondary. For stalkers, you can drop one of the powers, and add the requisite 'Hide' (possible cloaking field?)
I don't know too much about the bolts behind the scenes, so I wasn't sure if Electrical attacks could be seperated from other energy attacks, in terms of determining resistance, so that part i guess is open to debate.
I tried to make the set as balanced as possible, by looking at what the other melee 'defensive' pools offered. Hopefully, it's not too over/under powered. I suspect the tier 12 power might be viewed as a bit overpowered, but I was looking to offer something different.
The "God" power (all the sets have a special tier 32 uber power) I was a bit stuck on, in terms of how it should nerf the player when it expires. Other similar sets just drain the character of Health & End, but again I was looking to try something different, but still keep the same idea. I just wasn't sure if the game dynamics offered a mechanism to disable a pool of powers. It could easily be changed to a general 'stun' I guess, but I liked the idea that the character would be able to move, but would be seriously underpowered for a bit.
Anyway, enough rambling. Thoughts, comments, suggestions are welcome on what I've come up with.
Apologies now for any spelling or layout errors - This BB editor is really frustrating for writing essays(or is that just me?)

Make mission that is preformed under water, not where heroes are swiming around, but maybe a mission in some underwater dome, and you can look out of the sides and see fishs and stuff.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you thinking of some underwater installation? - Something like Deep Core from The Abyss?, or in gaming history, something like the Sub Base in Deus Ex ?
If I've read this right, you're not talking about a new zone per-say, rather just a new mission map - such as the instanced labs/warehouses/caverns, etc ?
I like the idea. On a related theme, there's an Anti-Matter mission where you're sent to his 'space station' yet it looks any other generic lab. For me, all it'd take would be a few portholes/windows with an appropriate outside image, to help with immersion. A few well place decorative items would help flesh things out as well.
So, if that's what you're talking about, then sounds good. -
36 months on, and I've yet to:
- Do any PvP - have always liked the idea, but have never known how to get started
- Do a TF (other than the terra volta respec)
- Take down a GM, including Hamidon
- Get a villain (any AT) above level 12
And it was only in the last couple of months that I've:
- Gone to the Shadow Shard (and left pretty quickly. It's not a Hazard Zone - it's a Frustration Zone)
- Actively Badge Hunt - I earnt an accolade power by accident, and suddenly found out that there was a point to all those history plaques...
- Get a character to Level 50. -

Just to add what others have said, it's probably just as much down to your playstyle. I pretty much took Robotank all the way to 50 primarily on solo stuff. Sure, I took part in the occasional PuG, but most of the XP was earnt solo.
As Inv / Eng Tank, Robo had an advantage in the early levels - a lot of Auto powers to choose from - which helped save Endurance for the attacks. On which subject, yep tanks might not hit as hard as other ATs, but once I'd picked up the level 35 & 38 powers, there wasn't much I couldn't take on. Energy Transfer just rocks.
Just thought I'd offer a Tanker point of view. I'll go back to my corner now -
Thanks Guys - Nine Claws, to answer your question, I've got perhaps (off the top of my head) about 20+ alts spread between Deviant, Onion, and Vigliance at the moment, but those are the ones I want to keep. most of these are low level concepts, and I've only one other alt above lvl20 (and he's been in the early 30's for a long time now)
-
Ah, thanks for the responses - glad it's not just me affected by this. I don't have any save or load commands in my macros, just the "standard" PB macros (select power tray2&toggle nova, etc...).
I can work around it for the moment, but would be good to get it fixed. -
It's hard to say without the full details, as a BSOD can occour for a number of reasons, but I was having similar problems when I first built my current rig, a couple of years ago.
In my case, it turned out to be a cooling / ventilation problem (bad design on my part). If you've not changed anything with your setup, it might be worthwhile checking to see if any of your fans have packed up. You could also get some temp monitoring software to see if anything's heating up.
Of course, it might not be a temprature problem, so I might not be right here. One of the more 'dedicated' gurus around these parts might have a better thought on this.
