Well that's great news then because Shields/Mace was my top pick just on sheer coolness alone.

  2. I don't have any Tanks and am considering rolling one, I would like to have one with the power where you Zoooom into the middle of the mob and they all go PAMF!!!

You know which one I'm talkin' about? What's it called please and which powerset do I need? And if it's a Primary power, wanna recommend a good Secondary to pair with it?

Not advocating Blind Invites (I form teams every night and NEVER use Blinds), but I've often wondered - how much time is "polite", to allow between Invites (via Tells)?

20 mins. should be plenty of time for someone to finish shopping, crafting, storing, etc....even running their own mish.

So I think Inviting someone twice, 20 mins. apart, is acceptable (note: didn't say Blind Inviting).

Also, don't be afraid to ask questions of the community. If we can read the question and if it's asked politely there will be plenty of people willing to help.

EDIT: Also, if you get lost in-game this site helps alot: Vidiot Maps
You and the GF are very welcome here!

Wanted to second the Vidiot Maps suggestion - tho be aware it's a hefty d/l and install. Think it takes more than 2 Gb on the hard drive. But if the Badges interest you it can really help you find them.

Also - if you have specific questions as you go along, you CAN post them here, but you'll probably get a quicker, more to-the-point response over at the Player Questions board.

The freaks over there like to race each other to see who can answer legit questions quickest and most accurately.

Oh and did you post your Server and I missed it? If not, what Server are you two playing on?
  5. Rude Tells thread ----->thatta way!

And with Psychoti's sub running out soon, Steelclaw has a shot at becoming the new Twit Magnet (tm)!

Best of luck to you Steelclaw! I'm rootin for you!

  9. I'm hearing good things about the UI tweaks (i.e. graphical clean-up).

I'm at work 'til midnight ET and very curious - could someone post a screenie of the reworked UI?

    Please?
  10. May I also point out that this is an acceptable way to get text with your powers without spamming the Team chat or Local chat channels.

You can Macro stuff like "afk Fortitude greatly boosts your Accuracy, Damage, and Defense.$$powexec_name Fortitude".

or "afk $target is my debuff Anchor - kill him last please!$$powexec_name Radiation Infection"

The text will appear non-obtrusively above your head, but not in the chat window.

Strikes a nice balance between providing your team with useful info and monopolizing the chat window, even with Local tells.
  11. Two people already helpfully linked you to vidiotmaps... I'll just point out that you can download a game-legal "map overlay" from that site, that will show you what groups are to be found in which neighborhoods (once you've cleared the "fog of war").

It's a very useful "little" tool - and I put "little" in quotes because it is, in fact, a huge download that will take up, like, 2Gbs on your hard-drive.
  12. You're not alone - I usually log in around the same time every other night or so, and usually Freedom is two yellow balls when I log-in.

Lately it's been one green ball every single time I boot up the game.

But I think above posters have presented very credible potential Why's.
  13. Forum glitch ate my long reply to this thread - no time now to pen another - but enough to say Sam, great post - worthy read, interesting, well-written, and thought provoking.

    I have some questions, though.

    1. I know that some people play the game using game controllers. How does that work? Do you map the powers to buttons or do you simply use it like a mouse to select the powers on the power tray or what have you?

    2. I plan on using a wireless keyboard to play the game. Any recommendations on one that works well for COH? Is there one you can buy with a built in mouse? or mouse-like interface?

    3. I've seen something called an air mouse ... it's not cheap, but it looks like it might work well in place of a game controller if I should find that awkward. Anyone had any experience with that?

Do they come with rechargeable internal batteries or do they eat batteries like nobody's business?

    Any information would be appreciated.

    Thank you! 8-)

I don't have a ton of specifics to contribute here, just wanted to caution you against laying out a ton of money on a new set-up to play on your big new TV.

You may find that it's great and wish you had been playing like this for years, OR, you might find that it's awkward, unwieldy, uncomfortable, etc. and you've just dropped a couple hundred dollars on a bunch of equipment you don't need and likely won't ever use again.

Specifically, I can't help with numbers 1. and 2. but 3. - air mouses don't really translate very well if you're used to a regular mouse.

Imagine trying to control your cursor using your TV remote, on a screen halfway across the room. It's not "natural", and takes some getting used to (I use them in presentations at work - years later I still don't like them and wouldn't use one if I did have to).

I'm not saying don't pursue this, if you really want to...just try to figure out a way to try it out with minimal risk (shop somewhere with an iron-clad return policy).

And, no, you don't have to consider khelds the best. Some of us think those AT's kind of suck.

That was to the OP silly - with Reg date Aug/2009, PostCount of 1! - why would I be responding to Sailboat?

And "some of you" may think those ATs suck but I was responding to the OP's question re: the optimal Badging AT.

You feel okay Ironblade? You seem a little slow on the uptake today.

I realize you're just starting out, but I think you have to consider Khelds (Epic AT) the best all-around AT available.

At higher levels, Khelds (they come in two flavors - Peacebringers and Warshades) can fill any role on a team, or solo for that matter. The can be blasters, tanks, scrappers, even healorz (sort of) as the need presents itself.

Now I'm not a badge hunter at all, but I have to imagine that having so much flexibility would make this AT a shoe-in as a dedicated badge-hunter.

+1 to I enjoy gifting inf to lowbies with few Vet badges when bumming around on one of my 50s...

...and I'm usually able to find someone willing to help me transfer inf to my own lowbies when needed.

(BUT...if you're on a lowbie and in need of a quick inf infusion...and don't want to go to the trouble of transfering from an alt...asking for a million will likely get you /ignored...HOWEVER...if you ask a level 50 for say...5,000 inf...I can pretty much guarantee they'll open a Trade window and gift you a helluva lot more than that).

Feels like the OP has gone on his merry way, but if any newblets out there still care, I'll add this about Faultline - I avoided the great mish arcs there for a while, becaue I found getting to and from Faultline kinda a hassle.

But then (after years of play) I found that Pocket D connects to Faultline. So use the interzone aspects of Pocket D to get there and back, faster.
  21. I believe that before this one, the most recent "No one's inviting me to PuG and I refuse to try to make & lead my own team" dOOOOOOOOOm thread was here.

And it contains some good suggestions for getting your own team up 'n running for fun and profit.

  23. As entertaining as all these stories are, doesn't this thread point to some very obvious QoL reforms that could go a long way toward making the game much more n00b-friendly?

Sure we laugh about trying-to-go-in-the-out-door stuff now, but back then, it was pretty frustrating right?

Thank goodness the "heroic" nature of the game itself attracts players who will go out of their way to fill in the glaring gaps in early-game instruction.

  25. Personal data for insight...

    Male/Straight/41-y-o

    24-month vet

All characters are male (except for one reptile who's clearly male to me but has been addressed as female a number of times).

In theory I subscribe to the Lara Croft principle (described above), but in practice I find I just don't "identify" with a female toon in the same way I do with males.

If I try to play a female toon I'm conscious of a disconnect between me as Player, and my avatar. When playing males I find it much easier to "become" the character, rather than just "play" the character.
