Best Archtype

Okay so I wanted to make a hero that I would be getting all the badges with. I was wondering if any one archtype would be the best. I know it is probably a really stupid question but just wanted to know.

Thanks,

Krisella

Since you're new to the game, I'd suggest a scrapper. Much more forgiving of mistakes and very solo able; both will help you learn the game.

Sure you're going after *all* the badges? There are tradeoffs for some - sure, a tank (for instance) would be survivable, eat damage without problems, but healing? Aid Other. Very slow. Time mezzed? You'll be farming. And IIRC some are made *more* difficult by +HP boosts some powersets get.

Also, of course - the "epic" badges take... er... a long time.

You may actually want to look into a mastermind. Yes, you can get mezzed, but you can eat damage (while in bodyguard mode) pretty well. And if your set has a heal of any sort (which several if not most do,) pet healing works toward healing badges. For "all around badging," I'd think you'd have to go least out of your way by playing a MM.

Just a side note, the "epic" badges have all been reduced again in i16, making some of them less-epic.

Even Empath was reduced yet again.

In badly-designed games, one class or archetype is "the best." This game isn't perfectly-designed, but it's well-enough balanced that there is no generalized "best" AT.

What's exciting or interesting to you? That might help you nail down what AT you'd be happiest spending time on.

I realize you're just starting out, but I think you have to consider Khelds (Epic AT) the best all-around AT available.

At higher levels, Khelds (they come in two flavors - Peacebringers and Warshades) can fill any role on a team, or solo for that matter. The can be blasters, tanks, scrappers, even healorz (sort of) as the need presents itself.

Now I'm not a badge hunter at all, but I have to imagine that having so much flexibility would make this AT a shoe-in as a dedicated badge-hunter.

If you are really interested in the "strategies" of badging - have you visited the "Badges & Gladiators" forum yet?

I reccomend a "shield" type Defender youll never have a problem getting a team ad a defender and the set and forget* aspect of the shields is forgiving for new players. As well they are quite helpful on those more dificult badges like "Master of".

Just to let you know it is imposible to get all the badges now as there are some anniversery badges you could only could have got by playing in the games past.

*I say set and forget as opposed to a reactionary or offendery type like Empathy or Rad.

I dunno, you could get those anniversary badges with Candy Canes during the Winter Event.

Uhh, the anniversary badges are not available during the Winter Event. Only old winter event badges were.

A scrapper would be good for learning the game, but the healing badges will be a pain (I wish regen's self heals counted, I'd have all of them by now)

A Radiation Emission Defender or corruptor would be a good choice. The set is fairly easy to use, has a heal for help getting the healing badges, you'll get the time mezzed badges by accident, and the damage badges will come in time as well. A Rad is always nice to have along for the "Master of" attempts as well. As a bonus, Rad is one of the better soloing sets available to defenders and corruptors as well.

Alternately you could go with a /rad controller.

Would really need to know what type of hero you'd like to play...
They're is no best AT.
If you have no game style preference, I'd say the scrapper part was quite a good idea, it's great damage, quite sturdy, and you'll get that heroic feeling for sure!

Just don't start with an Illusion / Storm if you're totally new to COH.

Whatever you choose, check their forum and ask a couple questions there first, in order to avoid the hardest combination, and pick something that fit your style & concept.

Interesting. I wonder why you would say that to Sailboat, who has a reg date a year earlier than you and seven times as many forum posts. Exactly what suggests that he or she is new to the game?

And, no, you don't have to consider khelds the best. Some of us think those AT's kind of suck.

I'd go for a Scrapper or Controller myself. My namesake is as Mind Controller and Mind handles pretty much everything in the game (Confuses, Sleeps, Holds...).

Scrappers are great because they do nice damage. A lot of the badges are for defeats, so if you defeat stuff faster...of course you'll likely not get the "heal other" badges on a Scrapper unless you get Aid Self.

It's going to be a tradeoff. A Storm Defender might get all the kill badges, be able to get the 'held' badges and slowly get the "heal" badges with O2 Boost. You can roll a Corruptor for the same purpose I guess.

Find something you like playing first. People can help you with the kill and TF badges. The oddball badges like the PvP Rep can be farmed, the heal badges 'gamed' as well.

My main doesn't have the PvP badges because I 'was' a 'carebear' when they came out. She also doesn't have the Heal badges because, outside of a period with Aid Other/Aid Self, that never came up.

And some of us don't. It isn't a bad AT though, and badge hunting seems to work well. I just hit 450 badges, I know I have a long way to go, on the 50 Heavies in RV badge. I am halfway to the 100 rep badge on him as well, and PVP on a shade is pretty hard for me.

Personal preference really, badge on something you like playing. I personally think that something that has some AOE would be good for the defeat X badges so you can mow through them but I wouldn't badge on something I didn't enjoy playing.

Badging in a PvP zone?

If you are treasure hunting on a battlefield wearing an enemy uniform, there is a high probability that you will be attacked.

This is an enjoy-the-ride game. "50" is only a number, not the goal of the game. - Noxilicious

That was to the OP silly - with Reg date Aug/2009, PostCount of 1! - why would I be responding to Sailboat?

And "some of you" may think those ATs suck but I was responding to the OP's question re: the optimal Badging AT.

You feel okay Ironblade? You seem a little slow on the uptake today.

To be fair, you DID quote Sailboat's post and then started it off with what looked like a reply to Sailboat's comment regarding "the best".

Most people don't pay attention to reg times or post counts.
