Little Help w/Skyway City

Newbie here and I just got to my contact in Skyway City and he has sent me on a Mission and I'm getting a little frustrated. One thing I like about this game is that it's not like others (so far) in making u run around for the sake of running around. However, I just completed a mission (a nice mission chain that, unfortunately, ended badly IMO) where I had to "cure" 20 Lost and did a lot of searching for a "needle in a haystack". I now have a quest to take out Circle of Thorns in Gimry Ridge or Copper District. After spending some time looking around Skyway City I can't find either (nor can I find any Circle dudes). I tried Paragon Wiki, but no luck. I would appreciate some help.
Sorry to sound like such a winer but this is a pet peeve of mine - I don't mind a challenge, but to me, running around trying to find "something" that could be "anywhere" is not a challenge, it's a waste of time.

Looks like those two neighborhoods are in Steel Canyon, not Skyway City. Not sure exactly where, though (I can never remember what neighborhoods are where...)

Also, sounds like you'd love the Villainside content, as there's pretty much none of the 'hey, go way over there and chat to that guy, then this other guy, then another guy, and another guy... and all of them are as far apart as possible from each other' (*cough*hero cap mission*cough*). Most all the recent hero content is good with regard to that as well (the really old stuff has a decent amount... at least relative to the nearly zero on red side ).

Usually, the contact will tell you which zone to go to, and once you're in the zone, the various districts are marked on your map with a little white-ish blue dot.

Also, welcome to the game and forum

These are in Steel Canyon, not Skyway.

Look at the link below to get an idea of where to find CoT. I know from memory that there are CoT near the entrance to Perez Park, close to the university.

Your hunting should be a lot less frustrating now. =)

OK, my stupid assumption. After reading replies I noticed the mission does say Steel Canyon. I assumed since the contact was in Skyway City the mission was in Skyway City. I guess some of my frustration from the last mission spilled over into this one. My bad. Thanks for the help.

Also; while the zone ( Steel Canyon, Skyway City etc ) you beat them in is often a requirement for the mission, the neighborhood ( Gimry Ridge, Copper District, etc ) is almost always just a suggested spot to look. Not a requirement.

The Lost in Skyway by the way are easiest to find to the south; in the neighborhood named "Land of the Lost". A good place to hunt low level Lost is in King's Row, in a neighborhood named Royal Refinery. It's to the east, middle of the zone where it corners.

Welcome to the game!

Next time you do the Midnighter arc, consider going to the Hollows. The Lost are near the entrance and will be conning gray to you. No frustration curing 20 there at all

It's been said that prior to COH launching, the Contacts placements were shuffled around. This resulted in a lot of the missions being in other zones than the Contact. It was speculated that extra travel time added realism and a time sink to extend playtime. Back in the old days, it wasn't uncommon for you have to hop 3-4 zones to a mission, then back again after you finish the mission (before your Contact allows you to call him/her). Nowadays, there are various methods where you can take a short cut.

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

Just to be complete and accurate, this is usually not true in hazard zones like Striga and Croatoa. If it says to defeat the foe in a certain area of the zone, you MUST be in that specific area for the kill to count.

Hell, back in the (very) old days, weren't you only able to ride the tram to the next stop, having to zone into each zone on the way to your destination? Now that'd suck!

Not to mention, less overlap of the tram systems!

The "kill" must be in the area. You can pull a foe into the area, ie take a shot at him to get his attention, then lead him to where you want to fight.

Two people already helpfully linked you to vidiotmaps... I'll just point out that you can download a game-legal "map overlay" from that site, that will show you what groups are to be found in which neighborhoods (once you've cleared the "fog of war").

It's a very useful "little" tool - and I put "little" in quotes because it is, in fact, a huge download that will take up, like, 2Gbs on your hard-drive.

Indeed. The point is.. the zone isn't always the only requirement, like the person I quoted implied... In fact, having spent so much time in those zones with several Alts.. it feels like the specific area is a requirement more often than not (I don't do many hunts outside of regular story arcs), but of course YMMV.

Except for the (grumble, grumble) annoyingly long cooldown between shots of the curing wand. :/

Or, if you aren't in a hurry to get inside the Midnighter Club, save the Lost Cure wand for the Faultline arcs. Particularly for squishy toons with little mez protection, it's a lot of fun to run around curing the Lost bosses in the first missions there. (Downside - if defeating specific named bosses is a mission objective, you have to wait for the cured civilians to run out of the mission before they count as defeated.)

Which is why I said "almost always".

It's very common for CoH contacts to send you to multiple zones, with the exceptions of contacts in The Hollows, Faultline, Croatoa, Striga Island, the Rikti War Zone, and Oroborous. Those were all added or updated later and the contacts there give arcs that are specifically about the zone they're in or have ways to "teleport" you to the mission.

As Kitsune Knight mentioned, in CoV it's far less common for a contact to send you outside his or her "home" zone. CoV also has far fewer zones, which also cuts travel time significantly. CoH does send you from place to place, but the travel time is still significantly less than some other games since travel powers allow you to move faster and the trains/ferrys/portals just zap you from city to city without making you sit through the ride.

Another thing you can do to - there's a help channel that's for the whole server you're on, so you can ask questions in it - just type /hc before your message.
