    Shard TF'S

I've never done any of the Shard TFs, so I'd be interested in running a few to take a look at them. I don't think that I could commit to running them on a regular basis, though (my schedule tends not to coincide with others). The Easter long weekend might be a good chance to do a couple if others are interested.
  2. It seems to me that the devs have made the wise decision not to allow players to use real money to gain a significant in-game advantage. They should stick with that principle.
  3. This may be a little tough for an MM to pull off, but the way I dealt with Banes on my Stalker was to fight Recluse on the roof of City Hall. When he summons the big group of Banes, jump off the roof and make sure they follow you down. Once they're at ground level, head back up to the roof. Only Recluse will follow you back up, the Banes just mill around the base of the building. Super cheesy, but it works.

But that's all a bit loose without further context and examples.

Lets take the premise: The market community is protective of the status quo, and really does not argue in good faith concerning any ideas that might upset the status quo.

On the status quo side here you have people that go from not understanding the mechanic being talked about , to being experts on how wow's auction house works. You have to enjoy the parts where they talk about how auctions with a buyout price don't work.
I don't think you've picked the right thread in which to make this assertion. Perhaps if the idea was better presented it would merit more serious discussion.

This isn't necessarily false, it's more a question of how you define "serious", and what percentage of the playerbase falls into this category.
  6. I see the bank missions as a means to an end (new contacts), rather than a goal in themselves. Thus, I'd consider it reasonable if you could run them in flashback without doing paper missions, though I don't think you should get the temp powers (or a new contact) upon completion if you're above the maximum level for that bank.

I believe that all other accolade badges can be acquired from flashbacks now, so the only conceptual reason not to allow this would be if the bank missions were farmable, in some way, for disproportionate rewards. I can't think of any possibilities off the top of my head, but I'm not a particularly devious person.

Based on the above, I don't think you have a very good understanding of human nature.

I think you're confusing price spikes with equilibrium prices. People can choose not to spend 100k on a piece of common salvage right now, but they still do it because they don't want to wait five minutes for someone to list it more cheaply. These people will always exist, and no amount of information will stop them from overspending in the name of impatience. Giving more history would help subsequent bidders to avoid following the upward trend, but prices already fall back to equilibrium after a short period so this wouldn't fundamentally change the market's operation.

In my opinion, salvage is already a buyer's market. I can always get what I want at a reasonable price with a minimal wait, and if a seller wants to move something quickly then they have to list it (relatively) cheaply. In fact, it's the buyers that are screwing it up at the moment through lack of patience or lack of common sense.
  8. I'm shocked to learn that this suggestion of a wholesale change to the process is motivated by the OP's own desire to get into closed beta.

    Shocked.
  9. In that case, I feel compelled to ask whether knowing that some item of common salvage is listed at 100k is actually going to stop a "buy it nao" type from buying it. And if said salvage is actually listed much lower and the buyer is currently overbidding, then I see no need to modify the system to cater to those with a desire to spend much more than the listed price for the sake of convenience.

Other parts of the game are structured to reward players in proportion with the amount of time they invest. Why should the market be different?

Keep your fingers crossed for the market interface, though - it's changing in Issue 17.
  10. Ah, ok. If the buyout price is visible then I guess what I posted above wouldn't be possible. If it's set separately from the listing price (which it would have to be, if it's visible) then I don't think it would help to drive down prices, though.
  11. Good point, I think I'm mixing the perspectives of a smart buyer and a "buy it nao" type in there.

In specific terms (speculation on price movements aside), the main problem I can see is the potential for sellers to list low-supply items at enormous "buyout" prices, waiting for a naive buyer to click the button and pay 100 mill for some mid-level vendor trash.

I expect that this is less prevalent in WoW because auctions are time-limited, meaning that the seller would have to continually re-list the item (presumably at a cost) in order to try something like that. CoX has no such restriction, which could lead to low-supply items becoming a minefield for the unwary buyer.
  12. Pardon my density, but wouldn't that make the entire bidding process obsolete? If I can instantly buy the cheapest listed item then I'd only need to place a bid if there were no items listed.

Edit: thinking some more, it would actually create a situation in which buyers would be required to gamble on the best time to place a bid for something, and allow sellers to gouge massively on low-supply items.
  13. I'm pretty sure that "this won't ruin the game" doesn't qualify as a persuasive argument for changing something.

I had a look at the WoW auction system, and it looks more like eBay, where an item is listed for a fixed timeframe and the highest bidder at the end of that time wins. In that context, the buyout button seems to function like a "buy it now" price.

So how would this function in CoH? Wouldn't people just set the buyout price at the same level as the asking price to ensure that they got the price they wanted? Or are you suggesting that the entire system be changed to be like WoW's?

I love me some unintentional irony.
  15. I got my Shield/Mace Tanker from 23 to 30, mostly by soloing him through the Striga arcs. It was probably a good band of levels to power through, going from no AoEs at all to 5-slotted Shield Charge makes a big difference.

The only other thing I did was bump my Crab Spider from 39 to 41.5 with the Friday night team and about two thirds of an ITF on Saturday. That's a pretty huge burst XP for him, given that I created him on the day VEATs became available.
  16. Putting a badge at the entrance to the Wolf's Throat in Striga might help people to find it.
  17. I suspect that the tail end of double XP had a lot to do with it, and there's always a bit of burnout evident in the following week. Hopefully things will rebound a bit next week.
  18. Word is that there's a Master of the 5th Column (Barrucada) Strike Force run in the offing tonight, let's see if we can complete the collection!

    Darn right.
  20. I haven't personally confirmed it, but numerous people have said that the AE is not giving double XP. I'm guessing that particular "bug" is pretty low on the list of priorities right now.

As far as max XP - high level missions with lots of enemies on large maps are the tried and true method. For maximum fun combined with excellent XP, I'd stick with just getting on a team and running missions that are set at a high difficulty level. I'm sure there'll be TFs forming around the place, but they're level-locked to even-con enemies right now so they won't give as good XP as a normal mission team.

I think that a lot of the heat in that thread was generated by people who thought they were falling under Posi's definition of "exploiters" and were thus in danger of having characters deleted. Things died down a fair bit once they realised that it was only the real edge cases who were being punished.

I honestly fail to see why you want a redname to confirm or deny something that a few wishful thinkers just made up, especially when a confirmation will just lead to impatience and a denial will just lead to whining.
  24. There has never been any indication that the 60 month/loyalty program people (or anybody else) will have any special status for the i17 beta, or any other beta besides GR. Therefore, any confusion is generated entirely by player speculation and/or misinformation, and should be disregarded.

    Worst Miss Tells

In Team chat, by the team leader, in the middle of an LGTF:

"Man if we didn't need (Player X)'s buffs so bad I'd kick his whiny (expletive)"

Things went a bit quiet after that.
