I wasnt emplying it was impossible to farm with a blaster or dominator or such, i was actually reffering to toons, not build for farming.

If i make a brute, scrapper, or tanker, I am usally basicly taking the same build for a PVE mission toon for the most part that would work for farming. There are usually noticable differences in how you build a squishie character to handle something like a farm. My point was that where to any brute, scrapper, or tanker, VEAT or such with resistances, defense, and status protection the freakshow would seem to be rather easy and not worth the xp level they earned, to a "common" blaster or dominator or defender etc, they could become kinda a pain in the ***.

I guess what i mean is there is a bigger difference between severly optimised toons and common builds depending on the AT of the toon. What is difficult to one might be a cake walk to others.

Though maybe 1.2 was to high, it depends again greatly on the toon your using to fight them. A farmer finds most groups in the game a push over honestly. Some more trouble then others, but could probably fight anything, they choose freakshow because of the rewards and the ease to them yes.

However a non-farmer, like say a blaster, freakshow are not that big of a pushover, they hit hard, they have holds/sleeps, rezs, dull pain etc. Which i think is why they included the xtra xp anyway.
  4. Basicly to achieve perma dom, you will need hasten 3 slotted for recharge, and then atleast 72 percent bonus on recharge from IO sets. And that is a very small margin of error to make sure you click it on time.

However earth fire, i would just first look at how much you have to spend. Then what IO sets could you use that offer the best return for Recharge. I have a perma earth.fire, its not that terribly expensive. I think i have 1 LotG +7.5% in it, and two cheap purple sets. That is once nice thing with earth is both the stun and sleep purple sets are not that expensive and both can be used if you want to. Otherwise its a buncha small buffs. Basilisk Glare offers a nice bonus for 4 slots on holding and can balance out the level 30 set with other common IOs. Expediant reinforcements also gives a nice bonus at 4 slots on stone pet.

It really is just a matter of what your willing to spend, what powers you have taken, and how many slots you will need on a power to reach the set bonus of recharge.

Also though keep inmind with changes perma dom isnt AS needed as it was before. Its really nice to have perma status protection and mez bonus, but even if you dont reach the 72+% to get perma you feel alot nicer even at 40-50 percent which is pretty easy to reach.
  5. Just noticed this last night. I hadnt noticed it on test when i was playing. So i did try and and ever pet i could spawn from a dominator or controller spawned -1 level.

    feed back thread : http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=189312

Hadnt seen any mention of it in here for discussion, and that was the first notice i saw of anyone even noticing it.

I understand the fire pets got this treatment because they were considered better then other pets. However i dont think its fair to do to the rest of the pets, and doesnt it just make imps that much better again? And i cant imagine imps being even worth it going to -2 levels to keep it equal on a dom with no buffing or debuffing to speak of to help acc/dam potential.
  6. I went ahead and leveled up with the level bump they gave us, and slotted up fully with SOs. I basicly took every primary and secondary power for an earth.earth dom. I didnt find earth assualt to be all that bad, accept it does seem a tad end heavy, but then having no patrons for end regen, and no IO sets, my perception of REAL endurance usage might be kinda skewed in that i normally have my heavier attacks with an IO set that reduces its end, and have something like power sink by the time i am 50.

Overall the perception most people have is correct. Range damage IMO is acceptable, but not outstanding. But melee damage is nice. It would be nice if the animations were a bit faster, but being i have lived with gravity and energy before, they are not terrible in my opinion.

I personally find the biggest hole in the set to be mud pots. It originally sounded like a cool idea on a dominator, but frankly even spending so much time in melee range, I kinda feel like the damage it does is insiginificant in that i am still killing things faster then it really matters to have that AOE going. So I prob would be skipping it on my live build unless there is something i am missing. For some primaries it probably would be ok, like taking hotfeet, but when you already have something like quicksand it seems like overkill and isnt worth the end drain.

I was running a couple radio missions on +2/=3villians and i seemed to be doing fine so long as i played with the normal dominator "smartness" and didnt expect to just run into mobs and tear them appart. So basicly IMO for a smart dominator player, it should be a solid set to have. Less range potential, but frankly i think that is what makes it feel more unique. Its not just a copy of another set with different effects like electric was to energy etc.

Oh and its called stone SPEARS with a 's' because you create multiple spears to hit your target, not because it is suposed to hit multiple targets. Its using the Stalagmite effect so if you watch 3-4 spears poke up from the ground and hit the target, hence it being plural.

If I can suggest Plant/Energy as an odd pairing that works well. Power Boost + Seeds of Confusion gives you early and reliable AoE control. Carrion Creepers is great neutering alphas and taking aggro. The set also does some decent damage. Combined with Energy it works unexpectedly well.

I will agree that you get some late control with grav/nrgy, but if you are going to be soloing alot anyway you still get enough control to play well. The mind set is nice, but i think is much more team oriented. My personal feelings when playing my mind dom is that i miss the pet when solo. Now most argue that with the confuses the enemies become your pets, but it just feels like i have to over control with that set, and then miss the damage from the pets. Maybe cause its a mind/psi i dont know, it just feels that i want a pet when i play him.

    Domi Farm???

The quickest way to get a mission changed with a timer or a AE slot locked is going to be advertising that its a farm. (note the old wolf missions, dreck, TV etc)

A player would be absolutely stupid to advertise in the public forums of which the devs read that they have either created a farming mission, or that they intend to for the devs to watch out for it.

My intention is not to change farming or peoples access to it, its to say "dont be a fricken retard and ask people to tell the devs where to go looking."

    The AE arguement

    Quote:
In my opinion this will get people out doing more arcs and TFs to get the better rewards, but will still offer enough reward for those just doing AE.
    Fail!

Again its your opinion that everyone should want to play as you do. That everyone can find TFs and teams at the time of day that they play as you might. I play commonly after midnight on the west coast. There are NO TF teams running that late and most of the east coast is well off to bed. Tickets are my way of earning the same rewards playing in small teams or solo that others earn because they can afford the time or opprotunity to run TFs.

Your idea fails because it is yet again a simple "play my way and if you dont lets nerf your way" idea. Its been mentioned over and over from everything to nerfing tickets, nerfing what you can buy, nerfing xp, etc etc etc.

Play as you want and stop worring about what other people do.

    Fire/ Help

If your runniing hot feet pre stamina then yes you are definately sucking down end.

My process on most toons that offer toggles prestamina is to skip them until i have my end mitagation going. In fires case that is stamina and consume.

I think the thing to think here is first your correct, your not on SOs, so much of that might fix itself at 22. And also your 20, your not supose to be a power house yet. However at 22 i would slot some SOs in what you can and then also i would say franken slot some of the more expensive attacks with something that offers either damage/end or acc/end reduction from the cheaper IO sets. It helps more then you can believe. But kinda like SOs i dont suggest doing it until your 22 and can get 25s or even 27 and can get 30s.

I'm DIRT poor, so lets not go down the road of "this + 6 billion inf would make an awesome build".

fire - on paper this seems like it'd go well. lots of damage output (aoe, cone, pbaoe, fire embrace)
ice - -slows and -rechg, cone, PBaoe, and power boost
elec - seems single target oriented for the most part...and melee..but seems like the damage is high.
energy - has the mack truck known as power push...pretty good ranged chain + power boost
psi - psi damage, cone, aoe, and drain psyche
thorns - toxic damage (and redraw...ugh), -def seems to go well with earths -def, thorntrops + quicksand + procs?

I actually like the idea of thorns, the the redraw drive me NUTS. Why are we at i15 already and still things require redraw repeatedly?

I'm kind of torn...I know I want earth (and don't want to wait for earth assault)...any suggestions on which mixes well with earth and has been fun to play (team + solo)? Seems like thorns would be a good mix and I'm leaning that way.

    Thanks for any input.

I have a level 50 dom earth/fire, i loved her. Even playing her with common IOs was great fun, but she was alot more fun when she went perma. However that is not as big of a concern anymore since issue 15.

With the way earth works IMO fire works well with it, with 2 good AOE powers. Alot of the time running either solo or with a brute friend the fights kinda would go like so....

Brute or me agros a couple mobs

Run to a corner out of sight

    Drop Quicksand

    Drop Volcanic Gases

(both around the edge of the corner)

wait a few seconds and you have a nice held mob to AOE to death.

I'll be honest, i dont know how you have "no problem" finding teams. When there's a handful of people in PI now or a few so many in Talos or FF as compared to the decent amount pre-AE. I'm not asking to destroy AE, i said that would be disastrous. I'm trying to find ways to stop so many people exploiting the AE system and making easy to kill 52 bosses. It takes out the roleplaying feel to this game when i spend time soloing arcs while a bunch of others just PL their way to lvl 50 which now just means nothing. If you are that obsessed with wanting to farm your entire time, then i don't see the point of me playing this game anymore. The old vets like i played this game to have fun on teams, fighting challenging AVs, doing the good old hami raid. It's all changed to this PLing idea, and what makes me mad is that it's easy to fix it, and nothing is getting done. The reason i'm saying our vets are leaving is because i just couldnt have imagined them enjoying this PLing forever idea; i guess i'm wrong though.

So your just looking at numbers. But frankly you figure you see 6 people in PI, but ok ill grant you that maybe pre AE more were in PI. But how many were PLing in PI? So is that ok? Is it ok for teams to PL up to 50 (which was availible to do before the AE) so long as you see their names listed as being in the zone?

The assumption that more people in the zone give more opprotunities for teams is false. I used to go to PI and search for teams that were running missions only to find all teams running wolfs, or dreck or another farm mission. It didnt make me feel any better about my teaming prospects simply because they were in the same zone as i was in.

They know nothing of Steel Canyon, Talos, Founder's Falls. The Rikti War Zone is "What?". If you want to sit in AE and play mindless NPC bosses for hours and hours and never leave, that is your choice and all my discontent will do nothing, but the Dev's [IMHO] need to make sure that there is more to the game than that.

I like AE. I enjoy making my own arcs. I can't stand being in AE because the number of cronic-abusers outweighs people who are playing it for enjoyment. All I ask is that they find a new home, someplace other than Atlas Park.

My point about the sewers seems to have been lost so I will take this opportunity to attempt to bow out gracefully. All the finger pointing in the world between the AE supporters and AE haters won't change the fact that this is a game and we are all paying to have fun. We have multiple alts and many chances to explore it all. I just would hate for people to leave the game because they don't know that there is more to CoX than AE. Not as a matter of choice, but just because they don't know it even exists.

Im sorry to say it but that is quite possibly the stupidest opinion on the matter that i have ever seen on the forums.

No player is quitting COX because all they think the game is is the AE. Even if a new player joins, he goes through the same exact process we all did at one point. He runs the tutorial, get a first contact, that contact offers missions etc.

Now we can assume that many new players are friends of existing players. And those existing players might give their buddies a bump from the AE. But nothing tells a new player the AE even exists for them. Just as nothing told them the Sewers were a good way to jump 8 levels quickly. They learn by doing. And yes maybe some level to quickly. but the game is not rocket science, and i dont know anyone that it should take more then a couple days of play time to get up to speed, even if they did go from 1-30 in like 2 hours.

The Sewers are not without their faults, but it has graces as well. I find The Sewers a far lesser evil than the AE farming that goes on. There is even a taskforce exclusively for the Sewers!
And since they nerfed the XP from the giant monsters in the sewer trial exatly how easy is it to find a team running that TF again?

And i dont find the sewers less revolting then AE. I can run AE farming with just my two accounts and not have to deal with either stupid players that get teams killed and slow you down, or the broadcast spam in atlas. Since i can get rght into an AE mission soon after logging in.

And before someone says the spam of broadcast is the fault of the AE, no its been there all along, it just used to say "level 2 blaster LF sewer team" and now it says "level 2 blaster lf AE team."

Everyone on the other anti-AE thread says that the devs intended this to be an alternative to leveling...but I thought the purpose of AE/MA was to have users craft stories?
The purpose was to allow players to make content yes. But it was also to allow players to level off that content rather then the content that many of us have played through many times already. Essentially the point was to allow new content into the game that the devs didnt have to make for us.
    Quote:
What if the devs allowed us to decide whether we would get XP for not? If the devs coded option to allow XP and to disable XP for those missions?
This feature already exists. And the fact that you dont realize it does shows you how popular the idea of doing anything and earning no xp in game for it is. You can already turn off your xp in your options screen. You dont need to have the option choose for you by the devs just because you choose to run AE content.

Would be interesting to hear you answers on this!

    Thanks
    1. what is the same or less as a normal misson? Even in "normal" missions xp varies. We already saw this for years with people choose specific missions to farm from wolves, to dreck, liberate TV etc.

    2. And the point is? Again, in "normal" missions farming allpeople did was make sure to invite yet another player to work as the SK that was in the optimal range. From about level 46-49 almost all the invites i would get were to be a bridge. As it is now, if i choose to farm, i can log in my two accounts and farm for my second toon. If you remove the auto SK then i invite a bridge, my xp stays about the same, and all you have accomplished is that i now have taken yet 1 more player out of circulation from the "normal" teams.

    3. Not all farm maps use bosses. I dont use them really at all on my maps. IMO bosses take to long to kill and slow down my xp. Limiting spawn sizes limits creativity. Not everyone creates a tough map to spawn. Some of use like trying tomake maps that simply kill our friends. Or atleast challenge them beyond that of a normal mission.

    4. again the point? your going to be able to find something in any level range that can work well for a farming map so all you do is again limit the creativity possible with the system without solving any problems.

How stupid do you have to be to see that by nature of there being a AE farming issue means a large group of players wish to have this availible to them. And would also likely leave the game if its removed.

Here is the solution. Stop worring about what other players that would likely not join teams with a bitchy little whinner anyway. They are probably farming to avoid playing with narrow minded players such as yourself that only feel their way of playing is the right way of playing.

The AE is here, many people use it, many people farm it. Many people dont, many people still run story arcs and missions. Play how you want and stop worring about those that dont share your views and let them play how they want.

Not just that but you have to spend time to earn the one from day jobs, the one from vet is given to all your characters on the account, with no effort on your part. So IMO the vet one is nicer then the day job earned one. I can earn that one as time permits but i know i always have it on every toon i make from level 1 on.

OK but i think that whiplash and backlash are kinda making my point for me. They dont just "use" whips. The whips, even in the photos you show of them, are basicly a conduit for transferance of another effect. Be it an energy attack or whatever.

That now might be more fun to play, a whipe set that you can pick the effect for be it electricity, energy, fire etc. But just a strait leather whip ala catwoman is, or should, be laughed at when going up against just about any set in this game if designed with any kinda of real world effects to it. (and i know not real world its a game but still there is only so much i can suspend of my disbelief.)
  22. I can understand the cool factor in a whip set, but frankly i dont see potential for it. Were talking super heroes and villians, unless it is some kinda cool laser whip i dont picture it doing a ton of damage, and at that probably leathal damage (yuck). As far as chains go, i would much rather see either a dark control set, or a totally new but cooler option like a true water set. Not ice water. As far as an assualt set goes, now that they have said the blasters are getting dual pistols, i would like to see a hybrid of like dual pistols and Super strenght attacks made into a natural assualt set.

I guess there are just so many things i would rather see then whips and chains in the game that even the prospect of it being true is really underwhelming.
  23. The problem here is i never got totally worked up off numbers. I did pay attention to the "feeling" of the character.

Pretty much all my doms "feel" better now. That is a grav/nrgy 50, plant/thorn 50, fire/fire 50, mind/ice 35, ice/elc 38. And my one perma dom a earth/fire 50, really feels about the same, but i think i am not watching the dominator clock as close as i used to. I let it slip a couple times.

Sorry i dont have numbers, perhaps one of the reasons i always felt ok with dominators is i never researched to much the numbers and compared to other ATs.
