The AE arguement

We have all seen the threads. People complaining that AE is ruining COX and those argueing against the complainers. The thing is I think we can all agree that AE has changed COX, some say bad, some say good, but the game has changed due to it.

I feel that there are positives and negatives to it and I have only one thing that I would change. I would change the rewards that can be recieved by tickets. There should, imho, be a seperate reward system. Something between SOs and IOsets. Maybe something like simple type sets where you get one bonus for slotting 3 of a kind. ie.. slot 3 damage and get a small accuracy bonus.

In my opinion this will get people out doing more arcs and TFs to get the better rewards, but will still offer enough reward for those just doing AE.

With the changes that were annouced about super-sidekicking (check posi post in developer's corner) it looks like they are trying to slow down AE and get teaming outside AE a boost. SKing will now auto up to -1 level of the mission selected and auto those higher down equal to mission selected of the owning person. If no mission selected sking happens to the the leader of the team's level. Positron said this is going to happen in AE as well, so the -5 levels of the lowbies auto sking, is going to be a thing of the past and will slow down pling.

Well, just my 2inf....

For those that take stock in post counts and registration... ive been a lurker since release as you can tell by reg date I just don't post much.

I agree MA has changed the game. So has IO's. So had ED. So has GDN. So has the Market. So has the advent of CoV. So has Sking/Mentoring. So has ITF. So has just about every thing they have added since I1.

I remember ITF spam. It was worse than MA spam, since people used global chan's to spam ITF.

I Remember KTF spam. When every 10 mins you would have the same people spamming global chans for speed KTF's.

My view on MA is summed up by this post: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...1&postcount=15

Which is summarised by this quote:

Its a handy guide for helping people get used to the fresh air that is "Content." Mind you I personally have no problems with MA. If that's how you have fun, go for it. If that's not how you have fun, leave AP and enjoy the fairly vast world of "Content." Either way, there is plenty of game for everyone you enjoy

do you ever worry that too much change will alter the experience so much that those that joined due to its original base design will no longer find the attraction?

I have liked most additions love the ITF, not a fan of the RWZ but its just personal preference Ido not slam people for doing what they find fun.

there are some features missing from AE I would have liked that would have made the making of custome story arcs more complete like being able to add simple cut scenes with custom dialog but all in all it was a nice thought.

I am dying to get my hands on the color customization but almost dreading rogue a lot of that dread is the unknown and that feeling of pre release dread has come and gone many times

at this point I still love CoV hate CoH (personal Experiences)

so we will wait and see

As a person who was part of the closed beta test for the original CoH (was invited in December of 2003 - when about 500 peope total were part of the closed test group); considering that, by your logic, the 'original base design' was:

- Level Cap of 40
- No capes, no auras
- 5 Task Forces total
- No badges
- No PvP
- No Villains
- 7 City Zones (including the Hazard zones)
- No SG bases

(and I'm sure there was other stuff added early on that I'm forgetting to list, which WAS NOT part of CoH on public 'opening day' back in April of 2004)

Sorry, but your logic falls flat. CoH changed DRASTICALLY with each early issue, and had these changes not come, many people (including myself) would have left long ago abd not looked back.

I am certain that this happens to some people, but I don't worry about it.

Some people will dislike a game because it has changed, in ways they consider important.

Some people will dislike a game because it has not changed, in ways they consider important.

Both people and games change - the only constant is change itself. My time in CoX (mainly CoV side) has been far longer than any other MMO. It will not be the end of the world if Paragon Studios decide to change the game in ways that it will no longer enjoyable to me. What may be good for the game may not necessarily be good for my play experience and if that happens, so be it.

Well, I'll say this much: Compared to the usual pitches, this is a novel approach. I'm not convinced it'd have all that much of an impact, though. Are you saying that, under this change, tickets would no longer be able to purchase salvage or buy recipe rolls?

One issue I see with this suggestion is that the enhancement system is already getting pretty arcane and convoluted: TOs, DOs, SOs, HOs, Common IOs, Set IOs, Purple IOs, PVP IOs, procs, uniques, what works at any level and what doesn't, and so on. This is potentially daunting to the new player, as well as old ones.

Were it up to me, I'd be twitchy about anything that worsens that situation.

In any event, at this stage I really think we all need to wait and see how the I16 changes play out before picking any further at the MA system.

I have to admit, AE was the one thing which sold me the most on CoX. When I was playing The Matrix Online (Rest in peace), my faction mates and I used to incorporate standard and archived storyline missions into our personal RP storylines. Of course we had to deal with fairly generic NPCs and scenarios, but when we decided to move on to CoX, the Mission Architect was something we collectively pounced on as a great RP tool.

It's awesome for that, isn't it?

As an aside, is Matrix Online actually defunct now?

Yeah, it was officially shut down on August 1st. Sony Online didn't give an official reason, but I suspect the drop in subscriptions coupled with the way the economy has been going as well as the royalties they were paying to the Wachowski Brothers probably were the cause behind this effect. I was sad to see it go, especially since MxO was the first MMO I ever played, but this frees me up to explore a whole new world...

Fail!

Again its your opinion that everyone should want to play as you do. That everyone can find TFs and teams at the time of day that they play as you might. I play commonly after midnight on the west coast. There are NO TF teams running that late and most of the east coast is well off to bed. Tickets are my way of earning the same rewards playing in small teams or solo that others earn because they can afford the time or opprotunity to run TFs.

Your idea fails because it is yet again a simple "play my way and if you dont lets nerf your way" idea. Its been mentioned over and over from everything to nerfing tickets, nerfing what you can buy, nerfing xp, etc etc etc.

Play as you want and stop worring about what other people do.

Are people ever gonna let this go?!

Guys! The developers of this game are not a bunch of monkeys stuck in a room, clueless on what to do with their bloody game! They're not just sitting their scratching their rears in the hopes of someone coming here and suggesting how to "fix" Architect Entertainment!

AE has changed City of Heroes!

City of Heroes is changing!

Let it go!
