I've been itching to make a dominator for some time. The thing is that there is something about earth that I love...so What would pair really well with it (solo and teams)?

I'm DIRT poor, so lets not go down the road of "this + 6 billion inf would make an awesome build".

fire - on paper this seems like it'd go well. lots of damage output (aoe, cone, pbaoe, fire embrace)
ice - -slows and -rechg, cone, PBaoe, and power boost
elec - seems single target oriented for the most part...and melee..but seems like the damage is high.
energy - has the mack truck known as power push...pretty good ranged chain + power boost
psi - psi damage, cone, aoe, and drain psyche
thorns - toxic damage (and redraw...ugh), -def seems to go well with earths -def, thorntrops + quicksand + procs?


I actually like the idea of thorns, the the redraw drive me NUTS. Why are we at i15 already and still things require redraw repeatedly?

I'm kind of torn...I know I want earth (and don't want to wait for earth assault)...any suggestions on which mixes well with earth and has been fun to play (team + solo)? Seems like thorns would be a good mix and I'm leaning that way.

Fire or Energy are my favorites for earth.

Fire for damage. Earth already has more mitigation than you really need, so might as well go full damage. You can also say you're a lava monster.

Energy has power boost. You can power boost your -def effects, which would help against stuff like night widows and enemies that have hit a defensive power. You can also do that in PvP, although defense is a little bit of a joke right now anyway.

Thorns has good AoE, but it's single target damage isn't all that great.
As for the redraw, I've never been able to take a redraw character past 12 or so, but my friend took one to 50 and said by the time he hit about 25 he didn't even notice the redraw anymore.

One thing you should know is your plan for super procs might not be very noticeablel; if I remember correctly there's only one proc you can put into quicksand and two you can put into thorntrops. I know I had 5 of them in arctic air and never noticed them, but then again I was psi with the old PSW.

I have a level 50 dom earth/fire, i loved her. Even playing her with common IOs was great fun, but she was alot more fun when she went perma. However that is not as big of a concern anymore since issue 15.

With the way earth works IMO fire works well with it, with 2 good AOE powers. Alot of the time running either solo or with a brute friend the fights kinda would go like so....

Brute or me agros a couple mobs

Run to a corner out of sight

Drop Quicksand

Drop Volcanic Gases

(both around the edge of the corner)

wait a few seconds and you have a nice held mob to AOE to death.

Earth/Electric/Dark

I didn't have a fully tricked out build and never went perma with it. I loved throwing down volcanic gases or earthquake and then rolling in the middle of the mobs and smack em down with stoney by my side.

Good times, good times.

My next Earth is gonna go with /Earth.


I'm hoping Earth/Earth will have some synergy. Sounds like fun being able to go to melee with TurdMan.



My first Earth Dom was with /Fire. Very fun,smashy, AoEish build. As Tsuji said, Earth is already control heavy, so might as well go pure damage, which /Fire is very good at.

I would not recommend the more single-target focussed assault sets. Earth (along with Mind) is the AoE Control master, so there's good sense in backing that up with good AoE damage.

To that end Earth/Fire is obviously good and by far the most damaging option, but my vote is for Earth/Psi. With Drain Psyche's -regen effects, the multitude of -recharge in Psi and nearly every power in Earth providing -def, Earth/Psi is a seriously good team support build.

And TK Thrust is everything that Power Push is now.
