    So yeah. Pretty silly.

Oh well, at least we have the updated Keyes, and Underground giving only Rares/Very Rares. that'll do for now.

I sure hope it's just missing from the notes. Isn't this update named for the new trial? It would seem to be quite silly if it wasn't included in the update.

I agree with this. Last night, two friends and I took three of our best Incarnates through Viridian's arc. We started at +4/x8 and after the second mission we even backed off to +3/x8. It was challenging and a lot of fun. Even when we hit a spawn with two or three judgements, there would still be a boss or two standing.

I have always supported the idea of an "Incarnate Mode" for high level TF's and Ouro arcs that gives threads and maybe a common component or Astral merit at the end. But with or without that feature, it's still fun sometimes to just crank the difficulty and see what you can really do.
  6. MMO does not mean that all content must be team content, or that those who prefer to solo should be ignored.

MMO does imply that there can (and probably should) be some content which does require a team, or even multiple teams.

I don't think that the argument "this is an MMO, therefore if you don't like to team, get out" is valid, but I also don't think that anyone playing an MMO should expect that they will be able to solo/duo/trio any and all content. Both extremes are equally ridiculous.

A lot of content will be friendly for solo and small teams. In the case of CoH, that's the vast majority of content. Some content will require larger teams. Nothing wrong with that. I think that's exactly the way it should be.

I admit that I'm not certain about that - you might be right and maybe it was random.

There was more than just the giant present involved. You had to click presents until enough winter horde (100?) had been defeated in zone. Then a Winter Lord would spawn and would need to be defeated. then a giant present would spawn and people had to gather round and click on it to enter Lord Winter's Realm.

While it was kind of cool, it will be a little easier to arrange for those who want it with the LFG tool. I'm kind of indifferent, really, either way works for me.

And now that we can schedule the events as we see fit rather than waiting for a present to spawn, I think this addition to the LFG tool is worthwhile.
Also nice is the fact that we will have something to do while we wait in the LFG queue. If you don't want to form or join a pre-formed league, hop in the queue and go skiing or present hunting, fight Winter Hordes, etc.

We'll do the Winter Event once for the badge but will probably view it as a chore rather than take pleasure in it.

No, the Winter Event does not require 12 and use of the LFG tool. The "Lord Winter's Realm" part of the event does. This is the same part of the event as last year that used to be accessed through a giant present after defeating a Winter Lord and still needed a large team (perhaps not 12, but more than your duo, to be sure) to complete.

  13. Wow. I'm going to have to test this on Recovery Serum when I get home tonight. Because being able to load up lots of those will be a big help with some of my characters.

I disagree with this vehemently. This is my "vehement tone" I'm using. Canon is what is printed on the page and that's it. There's a very simple reason.

If you want to accept something that is said "officially" as canon, that's fine. You are welcome to accept that as canon. However, not everyone bothers to follow every tweet, FB post, con panel, or blog. What is the official venue for release of an official statement of canon, outside of the comics themselves? I don't know. Is there someplace in the comic that tells me? Why should I care, if it's stated outside the comics but never actually appears in the comics? How does it impact the story in any way if it isn't actually in the story?

So, I will happily ignore such an "official statement" until it appears in the comics. Then it's canon.

Taking out stories that made the rest work is creates holes in the character and we're left asking well if that's not the case how did x come about And tie that in with the fact that DCU stories were largely serial... meaning that one story connects with the one before it and is reliant upon it... then when you change one thing a whole lot of cards fall

    For example, with Tim Drake.

Assuming all the changes Tim Drake should have stopped being Robin and then never came back and his parents should still be alive... Erasing every title he appears in after just before War Games...

Likewise without the Crisis you don't have 52, without 52 you don't have Jason picking up the Red Robin suit, without that you can't have Tim picking it up even if he came back to being Robin for a different reason.

So not only are you getting massive collapse you have multiple vectors of collapse.

The reason the whole "it didn't happen less it was said" worked before is because pre-1980 most comics weren't serials and took place in several different cannons thus if you said X happened or didn't happen it only meant that that particular book happened and had no implications for most other books
But all the stuff you said relies on clinging to stuff that happened before the new Issue #1's. If you take the Issue #1's on their own merits, with no preconceived notions about who these people are and where they come from, then you still end up with question marks about their backstory, but you don't have contradictions. You just have gaps in your knowledge as a reader. The contradictions only start to come in when you bring in history from the old universe, which is not relevant to the new universe.

That said, I'm sure the contradictions will start to crop up quickly enough on their own, because this is comics. But we don't need to go looking for contradictions with past continuity because there is no past continuity.

    Exactly this.
  21. I don't see a problem. It's a reboot, so anything before issue #1 doesn't matter. If it's brought up as having happened in Issue #1 or later, then it's canon. Until then, it didn't happen.

Don't see why that's hard to grasp. I also don't see why it's a bad thing. All those great (and bad) stories that we've read up until now are still there for us to enjoy again. It's just that those stories are not continuing any further.

For folks that wanted more of those stories, and are disappointed that they've ended, I can sympathize. But those stories don't have any bearing on what's being written now. Judge what is being written now on its own merits (or lack thereof). I'm not saying some of it (maybe most?) isn't crap. I know at least a couple of the #1 books I read were crap. But it wasn't because they ignored the past, it was because they were poorly written. And some of the #1 books I read so far have been good, and again it wasn't because of the past. It was because they were well written.

    Why LotG?

My guess is that it's mostly the consistent demand. Like Numina and Miracle globals, lots of us want Gambler globals on every character. What makes Gamblers different is the fact that we often want more than one - up to five of them on every character. That makes for a lot of demand.

While the new readers are all going for books that they'd heard of... and those books are either not rebooted (but are?) or have such disrespectful, badly written, or are just what they are looking for writing that more than likely they going to not get them again.

By the way if you want a good book with women who are half naked. Go look at Voodoo.
I would never have picked up Swamp Thing if I had not been to a panel where Scott Snyder talked about it, and sold me. And I picked up #1, and it was great - best of the DCnU that I have read so far. So I think you're on to something here.

For the record, I'm still waiting for my copy of Voodoo #1 to arrive, as well.

At some point, I'd like to possibly buy points for him just because it's a nice thing to do, but I have to ask - can this be done without actually registering my card or PayPal account to his PlayNC master account? Not only can I not actually do that (and Support couldn't help), but I don't want to do more than one purchase with said card.

I know Steam lets me make one-off purchases for in-game goods without having to have a "card on file," but does NCsoft allow this?
Nope. Can't do it. Zwill has said they're aware that people want it a lot, but that they won't implement it until they are absolutely sure it can't be exploited.

Edit: That said, maybe buy him one of those pre-paid Visa gift cards? That might work.
