By itself, it's no biggie. Combined with all the other escape powers it's a part of a chain of "oh crap" powers that people use as crutches so that they can play stupidly for short periods of time before running back into the base. In the unlikely scenario that a team showed up and staggered their usage of barrier, they could have it up most of the time.

Incarnate buffs seem like the culmination of the development team's long dedication to making this game easy for soloists. Which means propping up bad players in pvp. My solution is not to nerf it, just get rid of the bases. Eliminate safe zones so that whack-a-mole players can't use it indiscriminately and then just hop back to safety when it wears out. Get on it Posi.
lulz... Since when did playing solo make a player bad? Oh, sorry. Must be speaking to one who sits elbow to elbow in an uneven zone on a pillbox with all the heavies bad mouthing the other players who are outnumbered. Those types either start to complain how bored they are because there is no opposition and certainly would never think to spread outa bit so there might be some chance of a defeat on their toon thus providing excitement or as soon as it evens out they conveniently have to go and swap sides. lol Yeah, the solo player is the joke...
  2. I play all ATs on both sides. I wasn't looking for anything specific just starting a dialog to see if anyone had anything creative or useful macro-wise that they have applied to PVP.

I suppose if I could create one macro for PVP it would be one that would cycle through player targets only, ignoring the opposite factions NPCs. So a filter on my targets that would exclude any of the names of the Longbow or Arachnos NPC types for example. Acquiring a target in the middle of a huge population of NPCs can be tough.
  3. Anyone have any useful macros or binds they use for PVP they are willing to share?

And yeah, binding an emote of "Shrak goes nom, nom, nom!" does count but I was hoping for something a little more useful.
  4. 1) what spec would you suggest for an experienced pvp'er but noob coh player and why? advantages/disadvantages, leveling speed, over-crowded toon population (like frost mages in wow. UGH!), etc...

    Answer:
Choose a ranged player to begin with. A blaster is fine but I think it is easier to work with a corruptor.

Blaster builds vary but the more common primary blast sets are Psychic Blast, Sonic Blast, Fire Blast, Radiation Blast. I personally think Energy Blast should be more common than it is but I rarely see it. The more common secondaries are Energy Manipulation, Devices, and Mental Manipulation. I would probably stick with one of those to be honest in PVP.

As far as Corruptors go you have similar primary selections as a blaster does. The secondaries offer a bit of survivability though. I like Pain Domination best but Thermal Radiation, Radiation Emission, Storm Summoning are great options too. The other secondaries are seen less of due to no reliable self heal or other factors.

You could also go with a defender as an offender if you wanted stay hero side. Defender damage numbers are a little low though.

    2) i work midnight shift so my playing hours are going to be a bit wacky. i'm reading almost exclusively that freedom is hands down the best for pvp 24/7. so freedom, yeah?

    Answer:
    Freedom hell yeah!

    3) would it be wise to level my toons on a different server first then pay to transfer or should i start them out on freedom? i'm not a big fan of higher levels ganking me in starter zones. lame-o.

    Answer:
No, level them on Freedom. Far more PVE players on Freedom as well as PVP players.

    4) what kind of environment can i expect from pvp? meaning are there a lot of duels, group action, ...what? is either side (villain or hero) decidedly better in terms of players? are there a lot of baddies going around screaming about how OP they are? stuff like that.

    Answer:
Freedom offers all of the types of PVP you could possibly ever need. Thankfully it is still very active.

    5) what levels can i start pvp'ing/start becoming relevant?

    Answer:
I would say wait until level 25. Then you at least can slot SOs, will have the next large row increase in inspiration storage added to your toon at that level, and you will be at the level max for the lowest PVP zone Bloody Bay.

    Good hunting.

thanks for reading if you made it this far. hopefully you'll get a chance to /wrist me on the battle field sometime soon.[/QUOTE]
  5. Thank you for looking at this for me. I will mock this up and consider the playability of it.
  6. Looking to setup a viable S/L defense soft capped SS / WP brute. This is what I came up with so far below.

I hated losing ball lightning from my current build and not slotting electrifying fences is not a happy thing for me. I have both of those powers slotted for damage including chance for damage procs currently. The AOE DPS is nice as is but my survival is not as good as I would like. Plus I worry about endurance use a little on this build but I can probably work around that and still have a decent chain. Looking to tank (as far as a brute can tank) and farm him.

Any help optimizing would be appreciated.

  7. Sorry bad form to call you Mac when I dont really know you MacSkull. I have seen many truncatre it so and fell into it.
  8. Thanks for the advise all. I think Mac helped cinch the decision for me with the note about no defense debuff protection and the lack of elusivity. More HP and recharge it is then. Thanks again all.
  9. I had a similar issue with thugs.

Ran into two other bugs recently of note as well.

When I leveled on the thugs it automatically dismissed all of my minions, in the middle of a fight! Nice bug!

The other bug I encountered recently was a little bizarre. I had been fighting a rikti raid and had all damaged minions or dead ones and dismissed the whole group, which appeared to worked fine. I accepted an assemble team teleport from my team to our mission door and the minions appeared with me but not in my pet window. When I entered the mission door they were there in my pet window. Weird.
  10. I was in SC on Virtue last night at 8:00 PM on the stalker I left standing in there ever since I13. Was gonna steal some IOs off of him. Had one Warshade in the zone with me. So I went to find him for a fight. Hit him with one impale, he ran, I chased and he droned himself. Good PVP.

Thanks. That is kind of what I was thinking. I am not sure that there is enough defense left after DR to make such a build viable. But maxing HP and recharge isnt bad. I had Phase in the plan.
  12. My rad / pain corrupter seems to do well against some of the well built SR scrappers I encounter. Outside of Aim I have 31.5% ToHit and 41% Accuracy. With Aim I reach 98.4% ToHit. The radiation blast set is useful for fighting the defense type due to the -defense secondary effects. X-Ray beam has a high base accuracy so I slotted it for some defense debuff. This and World of Pain gives a good accuracy boost. Once I start hitting them I get through a reasonable amount of time in Elude, if they are out of Elude they should stay in the base unless they have help...

I dont get the negative rep on Conflict either. He can be a little course but he is very knowledgeable and normally spot on in the advise even if it is delivered tacked on to the end of a ball bat some times..
  13. Have a SS/ELA brute in the works gonna hit 50 this week. I created this one because it appears that the heroes have the upper hand in tanks and scrapper hard targets most times. A hard target working as bait can be a very effective tactic.

Anyway, what to build for on this combo? Will be a the taunting / web grenade type and not for FC.

Looks like I can get in around 50% ranged defense pre-DR on one of my concept builds in Mids but is that even enough to bother with? I put together an alternate with slightly more HP and recharge. Perhaps that is even better. Any thoughts or anyone with experience can share a reasonable build?

This is not bad way to go in most cases. The down side of the no fitness build will be noticed when you are not keeping up with movement speed capped players and when your endurance bar is being attacked. With that number of toggles Heat Exhaustion will floor you if you are actively fighting in very quick order. So a lot of players will out run you and the sapper types will wreck havoc on you so watch the blue bar.

If that isnt your bag then drop the leaping or concealment set. Regen has a lot of tricks and is very survivable if you can recharge fast enough to get your good armor clickies back in time. I play mine without concealment now.
  15. I run this Proc on a couple different toons in Focused Accuracy or Tactics. As noted, fine to get the set bonus but it does not fire often enough to make a big difference. It is not five seconds out of every 15 I can promise you that.
  16. Blaster: Why thank you for that taunt tanker.
Tanker: Thank you for firing Blaze.
Scrapper: May I please have SB please?
    Kin Defender: Why certainly...
    Scrapper: Thank you kind defender.
Kin Defender: Thank you for that Head Splitter.
Controller: Thank you for the healing aura.
Emp Defender you are most welcome.

Group: Why did we just team wipe? Could it possibly be that we stopped playing so that we could have this silly interchange of please and thank you instead of playing the game and casting our powers as we should without being asked? Nah! Couldnt be that!
  17. Got in quite a bit of regen on this build for you. You will not be any kind of offensive super star with this but you have a couple blasts to add when the need arises and all the tools you need for escape / survival. I think I covered everything that was asked for in the build from the OP. Most of the build are cheap sets and easy to get. The purple Apocalypse set pieces being the most expensive. The goal was to maximize regen and get you close to HP cap.

Another option would be to go with the energy blast and replace cosmic burst or the sniper with power push. You lose damage output and a mez but most squishies in zone play do not have enough KB resistance to stand against it. That would be a tough call for me to make but you may like that option.

Which leads me to this. Many players are prescribing 41 KB protection or more to avoid a KB spike setup. Which is right given some of the powers you might encounter but honestly, that is quite hard to reach in a build without breaking something and not really required. A build with 25 KB protection will do fine 99% of the time in zone. Once in a blue moon you will encounter someone with Power Boosted Power Push or some other high KB setup but it is not that common.

Vista 64 bit allows the SSD to be defragmented. I have been running an 80 GB SSD for about a year on my desktop rig with no problems. I have mine setup as a duel windows install. I have a stripped down version of Vista running from the SSD with all of the main games I play. I even placed the swap files and cache for the OS on the SSD. Is lightning fast compared to my old 20000 rpm drive. Screen load times scream in comparison. You will still get lag and such loading up but the delay wont be because the map isnt loaded up from the drive, it will be from the game mapping out NPC and other players.
  20. Well in case anyone else is curious, I went ahead and did some experiments slotting for the mez resistance. I respecified Mizrion into a 40% mez resistance build after getting some base line numbers of hold durations from a controller friend of mine. It is hard to get exact numbers do to lag and such but it was a noticeable reduction in the amount of time the hold lasted. It nearly cut my friend 6 second hold duration in half.

So I would have to answer my own question as yes, it could be worth the effort if you can comfortably get it slotted in. In my case to reach that level of resistance I had to make sacrifices that reduced my movement speeds a little so I will be undoing part of the build to recover the two slots I had on travel powers.

And attempting to explain it with logic will get you nowhere.

Summary: Ice blast was purposely made weaker than other sets on yet another random whim of the developers.
Well the -Recharge is still a significant factor and had to be considered I would think when calculating the base damage.

Part of Ice Blast bad rap now is because it no longer can take a speed capped player to a crawl in just a few attacks like it could before I13. Prior to I13 it was over powered due to the -Movement Speed on top of the huge -Recharge. Today the -Recharge is still very effective even though the -Movement Speed is not so great as it was.

I remember many cold builds running the zones back before I13. It wasnt because the damage on ice was so awesome back then either. It was the -Movement Speed and -Recharge that made it so powerful. The -Recharge on it in today's PVP is still a reason to look at the set IMO, especially if you have a more resilient build or are buffed and can survive long enough to leverage the -Recharge.

Im going with a Claws/Invln build.Im requesting the following for my build.

High Global Recharge IOs, additional Damage through Global Damage IOs, Additional Resist IOs, Moderate Recovery IOs, and minor to Moderate Accuracy IOs.

My focus will be on excellerating my Dull Pain to be recharged fast first and formost, and the rest of the requested IO increases are secondary concern.

I would perfer not having it in a Mids format, but a mapped out IO and Slot chart for use.

Thank you for your time.I want to be a Vanguard Sword Soldier in PvP, and will look as such.

Purple IOs will be fine, I finally have a farmer I can live with.

A lot of ways to go on a build for this combo. As noted it is weak burst damage and always will be. But perhaps a scrapper / blaster concept similar to this could interest you. Not knowing what pools you like makes it tough but I took a half-hearted shot at it. You will have to spread sheet it yourself.

  25. Punkture

    KB prot

I am going to say that on my corrupter at the moment I only have 27% resistance. I have not been knocked down once in the three weeks I have been playing it. The final build will have near 35% once I finish slotting. I dont know that you really need to be protected from 100% of the KB powers out there for zone play. In arena, yeah. 25% covers a lot of the powers used typically though.

So for a more casual player not looking for optimum, you can get away with less and still have a fun time in the zones and not get totally KB farmed. Those slots and sets you are using to get to 41% KB protection could also be used to give you more HP, recharge, recovery, etc... Those numbers are pretty darn important too. Take the 41% number with a grain of salt is all.
