I Love PvP... And I'm New. Help.
If you prefer the ranged heavy damage, roll a Psy/EM blaster on Freedom. It'll help teach you various skills that other AT's (read, melee) would otherwise forgo. Also, Melee AT's tend to develop bad habits in players if they start with them in PvP. Don't worry about what other people say to try and throw you off your game. Chances are, if they're complaining about what you're doing, it means you're doing it right.
Also, you don't really need to worry about higher levels vs lower levels in zones, as everyone gets put at the same level. Sure, higher level characters have advantages like better slotted powers and such, but it isn't like wandering into a level 70 area on a level 20 character.
"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict

4. lots of ganking

1) what spec would you suggest for an experienced pvp'er but noob coh player and why? advantages/disadvantages, leveling speed, over-crowded toon population (like frost mages in wow. UGH!), etc...
Answer:
Choose a ranged player to begin with. A blaster is fine but I think it is easier to work with a corruptor.
Blaster builds vary but the more common primary blast sets are Psychic Blast, Sonic Blast, Fire Blast, Radiation Blast. I personally think Energy Blast should be more common than it is but I rarely see it. The more common secondaries are Energy Manipulation, Devices, and Mental Manipulation. I would probably stick with one of those to be honest in PVP.
As far as Corruptors go you have similar primary selections as a blaster does. The secondaries offer a bit of survivability though. I like Pain Domination best but Thermal Radiation, Radiation Emission, Storm Summoning are great options too. The other secondaries are seen less of due to no reliable self heal or other factors.
You could also go with a defender as an offender if you wanted stay hero side. Defender damage numbers are a little low though.
2) i work midnight shift so my playing hours are going to be a bit wacky. i'm reading almost exclusively that freedom is hands down the best for pvp 24/7. so freedom, yeah?
Answer:
Freedom hell yeah!
3) would it be wise to level my toons on a different server first then pay to transfer or should i start them out on freedom? i'm not a big fan of higher levels ganking me in starter zones. lame-o.
Answer:
No, level them on Freedom. Far more PVE players on Freedom as well as PVP players.
4) what kind of environment can i expect from pvp? meaning are there a lot of duels, group action, ...what? is either side (villain or hero) decidedly better in terms of players? are there a lot of baddies going around screaming about how OP they are? stuff like that.
Answer:
Freedom offers all of the types of PVP you could possibly ever need. Thankfully it is still very active.
5) what levels can i start pvp'ing/start becoming relevant?
Answer:
I would say wait until level 25. Then you at least can slot SOs, will have the next large row increase in inspiration storage added to your toon at that level, and you will be at the level max for the lowest PVP zone Bloody Bay.
Good hunting.
thanks for reading if you made it this far. hopefully you'll get a chance to /wrist me on the battle field sometime soon.[/QUOTE]
so after reading several threads regarding noob questions and after making a complete fool of myself on the Player Questions board (suggesting suggesting a build that would make experienced players say zomglulzNUB!) i'm kind of caught in between what i should be doing for end game pvp (my ultimate goal) and what i want to do (make toons that i personally think work great for pvp in OTHER games; ice for immobilizers being my latest derp).
i would prefer a caster class, but i'm not ruling out anything at this point. i just need advice. so here goes.... 1) what spec would you suggest for an experienced pvp'er but noob coh player and why? advantages/disadvantages, leveling speed, over-crowded toon population (like frost mages in wow. 2) If you have funny working hours you may actually be better to play peak time on an EU server. (just a suggestion)
3) City of Hero's is not like WoW, villains are not able to attack you as you level up unless you are in a specific PvP zone. Players can go from 1-50 without even seeing an enemy player.
4) There are few types of pvp, arena matches are set up and pretty much act like a duelling system. You can enter one from anywhere by typing /arenalist or there are Zones where it's a Red Vs Blue kill what you want and do your best to stay alive.
Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.
