The devs have always used the philosophy of aggregate balancing instead of individual balancing probably because the game was never balanced to begin with and to microbalance every segment of the game is likely too resource intensive from the publisher's point of view.

I don't think it is perfect but it should be in the realm of workable for 90-95% of the population.
  7. Any word on Crossfire support? Kinda bites seeing that SLI support is there but multi GPU support from the 'preferred' vendor doesn't exist.

Pretty much. You can use a DST file to recompile a bit, but the EMB file should have more information to use. FWIW I just autotraced a bitmap of the file and put a ring around it so it's really just a quick hackjob.
  9. Couldn't get the file to be put in the code tags so I had to host it here:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?ah8awdk1clto1ah
    http://www.mediafire.com/?3b3xjcprfye1cq3

Format is DST and EMB if you care, different file format but pretty much the same end result.

These files are free to redistribute from my point of view but all copyright remains with NCSoft and Paragon Studios and Cryptic Studios. Obviously any commercial reproduction must be negotiated with the aforementioned first. Mods/Devs contact me if you want the files removed or distribution controlled by the rightful owners.

    Final result is this:
  10. See below post for what I was trying to get done.

I've "sucked it up and dealt" with games becoming more and more focused on "challenge" (as well as "realism" and "shooting") for the past twenty years.

And frankly, I'm sick of having to bow to extroverts and challenge seekers. There's worlds and worlds of things out there for extroverts and challenge seekers already. One of the main points (not the main point, not the only main point, but one of a handful) that draws me to this game and keeps me with this game is the fact that it was unlike the rest, that it actually catered to ease and solo-play (solo play doesn't have to be easy, and easy doesn't have to be solo; these are separate things). I've seen franchises, companies, and genres I love morph, "evolve", and die many, many times, and of late the trend in the video game world has been towards conformity, towards making everything the same.

City of isn't there yet, but the steps they've taken in development of the Incarnate system have, thus far, seemed quite clearly to be steps towards that. I'm open to being pleasantly surprised by i20 content, and I'll be the first to praise Paragon if I'm wrong about it, but what I've heard and seen so far has not given me cause for hope.

I do not want to see this game's end-game be like every other game's end-game, where the idea is "tactics", "challenge", and "teams/raids". City of has, thus far, avoided that path, and I will not "suck it up and deal with" yet another game I love going down that same old path everyone else has trod before.

I've had quite enough of having to "suck it up and deal with it", thank you.
I think you are taking out your life frustrations on this game and on the other forumites who try to help you. Not that there isn't anything inherently wrong with that, but you do seem quite loquacious for an introvert.

While you do have a voice and are definitely allowed to participate in the discussion, overlaying your discussions about how others have treated you in another game or IRL isn't really germane to this discussion. I know there have been people here who have tried to help you in ways that they can, but your rebuffs to them aren't exactly engendering of a returned warmth.

You also refer to this game as 'yours', and ascribe ownership of this game to people who are casuals only. While it may be scarce in terms of the selection of the games that you desire versus the people who want an escalating challenge, CoX has always had a progression within its development and it has not always/solely catered to the (casual) soloist. The original Task Force design and AVs never were casual or for the soloist, although they softened some of the aspects to make them more casual friendly.

There have been many people who have been here as long as you and have requested content that is more challenging. It isn't 'their game' anymore than it is yours, but I feel that the devs have threaded a fine line in keeping the game and story going. And like any good story, it should come to a climax, lest the story become static and thusly stale.

I think that you brought up some good points about the mechanics of the game in previous posts but I don't really feel that this post is one of your best.

The dearth of challenge in this game has been a long standing hole in CoX and I'm glad that the devs are beginning to address it now. I just hope that they continue to look after the casuals, the soloists and the introverts as well. And I suppose the PvPers, wherever they may be.

    Hi there!

Welcome back! You already know me, but not in the biblical sense.

Best way to reintroduce yourself to Justice is via the aforementioned chat channels.

The Justice forums always seem to be on a tight leash so nothing much exciting happens here. All the drama and fun is in the channels now.

But the feel is if we could decrease how much influence a player could hold, then they could not afford to pay any price for anything the desired, and therefore the prices at the market would drop.

While this seems very reasonable, after all supply and demand rules would essentially support this position, after all if demand is essentially broke, then the availability of demand for the current supply would plumet and thus the supplyers would have to reduce their prices.
I wouldn't agree that it is held influence but generated influence. There is already an influence cap and yet players find ways to work around it when they feel that a trade is worth doing. Adding stronger caps may limit the top end of trades but will do nothing but aggravate people since most of the inflated items complained about are well below the influence cap anyhow.

If you are trying to limit the total influence wealth people can hold they will switch to an alternate form of currency, like trading LotGs for goods in order to tokenize the highest end items.

I believe under the principles of supply and demand, if you want to force the suppliers to drop their prices: "You have to drop demand", not increase it.

This is why I support A-Merits, Merits, Vanguard and AE Tickets as a way to actually drop demand at WW/BM. Why should I buy an over-bloated priced LoGT 7.5 at WW when I can get it for 250 merits at the vendor or 2-Amerits as well?
Since these methods already exist, it would be a natural assumption that it would have dropped prices on the market because demand has slackened. In a sense it has, because the forward momentum of many expensive items has been blunted somewhat. Miracles and Numinas have dropped from topping 300M but have crept up from 200M to about 230M now, because the amount of incoming influence hasn't slowed down.

Also, when using A-merits to purchase LotG 7.5, they are also competing with even rarer and more expensive goods like PvP IOs (from a purchaser's point of view), so it hasn't really blunted demand for LotGs as much. Just remember that most people who are able to generate 250 merits are usually generating a lot of influence (at level 50) as well, which means they can afford to buy a lot as well.

I would presume that you think LotG 7.5% are overpriced because you refer to their market price as being 'over-bloated', but the price is simply reflective of the incomes of the players.

In order to reduce the amount of influence that is being devoted to LotGs you would have to massively inflate the supply of LotGs in the market or reduce the demand. Neither is an especially palatable option since increasing the supply means that the 'rare' recipes will no longer be rare, and in order to reduce the demand you would have to introduce a new replacement that is substantially better and make it drop as often.

This one is quite radical, but it will sure as fire work! It will end inflation hard and fast. Not only will it end the over-pricing and inflation it will cap how expensive anything is and perhaps make the pain of those who are not so lucky in getting what they need a more reasonable enterprise.

If the vendors sold everything, salvage and recipes. Then at WW/BM it would make no sense to sell stuff higher priced than what the vendor would sell them to you. A good question would be what are fair prices for salvage and recipes...
It has been shown many times in the market forum that price capping would basically be the end of the economy. Given the fact that a substantial number of players like the marketing aspect of the game, it would make as much sense to price cap as it would to substantially revise PvP for suppression and decay. >.>

The fair price model would only work if influence liquidity remained substantially the same. That isn't what is going on in this game. Flat rate pricing is pretty much what we had before the market existed. No one cared about influence then because it didn't matter very much.

Actually if as a community refused to pay the over-bloated prices, that in itself would force prices down. The two obstacles I see with this very simple suggestion is personal patience and the community standing tough over a fair price, besides determining what is a fair price?
This is the only reasonable way to play, but just remember that you cannot 'force' prices down. The supposition is that the price is too high, but it is what someone (else) is willing to pay, or a transaction will not occur. If enough people are willing to pay that amount to satisfy the quantities being sold, then the price is not "over-bloated", that is the market rate. This is presuming the markets are fair and open.

Again, the biggest problem with being patient is that a fair price is a moving target against a regular and increasing influx in influence in the system. That is the classic definition of inflation. Too much money chasing too few goods.

The problem I see with all the proposed solutions (excepting Arcana's, I'm still ruminating on it) is that most of the solutions aren't fixing the markets, they are nuking the markets (or other parts of the game). Given that a lot of people are using the markets, and many of them are entertained by the market, nuking the markets probably isn't the best idea.

Changing the supply of goods just to 'fix' the market isn't a great idea because all sorts of other problems arise. Since this is a MMO with loot, scarcity of goods and the desire to accumulate 'nice things' is a big impetus to continue to play this game. Removing scarcity would be a big rewind and may not keep players engaged when it comes to keeping players subscribed.

A larger question to ask would be, "Is using the market entertaining to me?" I know there are more than a few people here who would definitely say "Yes," and more than a few who would vehemently say "No." The question for the devs is what is the proportion of the people on both ends, and how much of the population is in the middle. If it shakes out like a classic bell curve, then I would argue that there isn't much that needs to be done. If it is lopsided one way or the other, then the devs probably need to tweak/fix/nerf things.
  15. A fast team that takes 3 hours to do ITF, Kahn and STF wouldn't really be considered fast by today's standards.

In that 3 hours you benchmarked a fast team could knock out ITF, Kahn, STF, LRSF, Apex and Tin Mage, and have time to step out for dinner and walk the dog. Fast teams really are fast.

The good part about fast teams is that no one person or team has to commit a 3 hour block of time to get things done. They can do 1 or 5 TFs or take a break and come back later. I'd feel bad if the team is rolling stuff and I had to take an hour out for a kid break or some chore right in the middle of a long TF.
  16. The basic problem of inflation in this game is that influence is magically made by defeating enemies. That means the influx of currency into the game is vastly outstripping the availability and consumption of goods.

The only way to realistically reign in inflation in this game is to either take influence out of the game by destroying it (even watching billions being burnt off by the 88s shows that a few players have zero effect on inflation, no matter how many zeros they put behind their effort) or by limiting the influx of it (which would take away some impetus to defeat/farm).

The basic problem of this game, or any other video game, is that while inflation is a problem, to introduce real world scarcity to fix gameflation would make the game no longer fun (ie. the fix is worse than the problem).

No one wants to have the market defeat price of a malta agent go down because too many people have farmed them, or have to wait for a Nemesis map to regenerate because 'were all out of WarHulks'.

Sorry but there is no fix for inflation because people want to play without scarcity on enemies, and whenever a scarce item (like purples and rares) is introduced, it will automatically be the focus of lots and lots of currency.

That being said, the increase of level 50 earning power and AE exploits have made inflation worse.

Welcome back. On Justice, chat channels Justice United and JFA2010 are the places to get started. Both are active general channels that promote Justice's casual nature for teaming and TFs.

From there you can find out which SGs are still active and which other channels may interest you.

If you need a SG to crash in for the porters I can SG invite you. We're pretty lame now since global channels took over but at least we have pretty much all the amenities.

Hit me up @pumbumbler in game if you're feeling discombobulated, or if you just need to chat.
  19. Short answer: Random is random.

Long answer: Used to be a bug where you could determine when the next drop was a purple on a specific mission/map/mob but that was an exploit and now it is fixed. Unless it wasn't fully fixed. So now it's pretty random.
  20. I just tell the team this:
