There's too much cute in this thread. Also, I must have the pattern for those Arachnos booties.

#2 and #1 made me laugh pretty hard.
Corn on Macabre reminded me of a costume I saw in a previous costume contest, where a guy showed up as the Paying Mantis - was such a good costume it floored everyone.
But yeah, these were well chosen. -
-
I was rather impressed with one of the missions in Praetoria where the objective is to save as many people from the BAF as possible, but you obviously can't save them all - and depending on your playstyle and archetype, you might be cursing yourself at how long it takes to defeat two minions to rescue a hostage.

Well if you're still going to hang out from time to time, then I won't say goodbye, rather, good evening!

The buses are there, you just missed them though.

Quote:And 4 of those categories are clearly ranged, even after you seperate them."Ranged," short for "Ranged Damage," covers an actual category of power sets used in Blaster and Corruptor Primaries, and Defender Secondaries. Though many Control and Buff/Debuff powers can be performed "at range," they do not fall into the "Ranged (Damage)" category.
I have edited your post to show the actual categories of the power sets you listed, and melee is still the front runner.
I can divide Melee into multiple categories as well.
Titan weapons is clearly a massive burst damage melee aoe set.
Street Justice is a combo-based melee set.
Staff Fighting is based on its own mechanic, and by the confessions of the developers was designed as Titan-Weapons "lite" from the beginning and ended up like it is now. It's noteworthy for being a potential Stalker set.
Pitting everything that's "melee" in one group is fallacious. Each set is meant to stand on its own. What would you prefer? That the numbers be closer to even? It's 3.
three!
You'll note I only looked at powersets created after freedom was launched. There are reasons for this.
1. They're recent, thus noteworthy.
2. That was a huge deal and stuff got shook up.
3. A lot of those old sets were designed all at once and probably wouldn't have been made if everything was done one powerset at a time, thus they really shouldn't be compared on a one-to-one basis against the new stuff.
I could go back and look at each individual set but that would not serve any purpose. Asserting that more powerset options somehow automatically makes an archetype better is wrong. Masterminds have the least options out of any non-epic archetype and they're easily the best. (yes, that's my opinion, and no, you're not going to change it by arguing with me) You want more ranged damage sets? What would they be? You have to come up with something before you can complain about it not being there.
You want male-only costume options? Figure out what they are, things that wouldn't be wanted or needed for females.
Same applies here. You want more ranged sets? Figure out what they should be, and suggest those.
There have already been calls out for whip assault. Hell, if that had the range of a ranged damage set it would work great! It doesn't have to be an Indiana Jones whip, it could be a fiery whip, or an energy whip, or a Tentacle, or if you're feeling silly, a ball of twine.
Players have suggested psychic weapons. Perhaps a psychic gun? I think I remember stealing one of those on a rogue alignment mission.
Beam rifle was cool but perhaps we could have a laser pistol? dual laser pistols?
Shoulder-mounted rocket launchers?
Nanotech-powered portable launchers? It would be awesome to just plop down a pirate cannon and set the fuse while the enemy's paralyzed with fear as the gun is about to fire.
The point is you have to come up with some kind of suggestion about what you're really looking for in the form of a ranged damage attack. Something that's as cool as Titan Weapons (which players were really excited for) or Street Justice (which has Batman written all over it) or Staff Fighting (which is just incredibly badass on a stalker, since that ENTIRE CLASS was cheated out of Titan Weapons which is a whole nother issue)
Or perhaps you're upset because "Titan Weapons" is so generic that it rules out the possibility of it being revisited in the future as a different powerset. Not so.
I imagine that the developers have already been bombarded with requests for:
Titan Guns
Using the momentum mechanic, this powerset would contain attacks for chainguns, rocket launchers, handheld siege missile platforms, oversized sniper rifles, and other obscenely oversized weaponry that mere mortals should not possess the power to lift, let alone wield. Its attacks would be damaging on a massive scale, and once the weapons are properly warmed up, they unleash hell on a massive scale, tearing into your enemies with abandon. Like Titan weapons, you must hit your target to gain momentum, otherwise it takes time to aim again and make sure you're on target.
Granted, even if that set were being designed first, I imagine it would take a lot more work to deliver to the fans, so we'd have to wait a bit longer, but hell, it would be worth it. -
let's see:
staff fighting - melee
dark control - ranged
beast mastery - sorta both i guess depending whether you're the pet or the master
titan weapons - melee
beam rifle - ranged
time manipulation - ranged?
street justice - melee
darkness affinity - ranged?
dark assault - ranged
that's relatively recent powersets.
2 obviously ranged.
3 questionable, mostly ranged.
3 melee.
How's that in any way favoritism toward melee?
Quote:You forgot Beast Mastery, where we literally get "Shoot the bird" in the form of call hawk.I'd love to see ideas for more ranged sets that aren't just recolored existing sets...
[snip]
...They could possibly start mixing it up with Shoot Bunchastuff and include some powers from all of the above. But otherwise, what's left? Honestly. I'd like to know what people want to shoot at other people that we can't already. -
Ooh I like your avatar. nice and simple.
Welcome to the forums. -
My favorite so far was the valentine (mis)delivered to Television.
Poor Dean-o is missing out on all the fun.
I will have to share some chocolates and an epic high five with him later. -
I definitely think this is one of the strongest appeals to CoX's cash shop.
I buy something new, it gives me not just a reason to play one of my characters more, but also gives me new ideas for new characters, and thus, when they add a new costume set (or powerset) to the game, it's as if they're giving me 2-3 new characters to play.
When A CERTAIN UNNAMEABLE MMO (as an example) adds a cash shop item, it's most of the time a new mount or minipet, which does not increase the appeal of my character or alts at all.
I'm glad to see that NCSoft and Paragon are doing such an incredible job at that. Perhaps THAT OTHER MMO COMPANY could use some pointers from you guys. -
Quote:Forcing this would be stupid.the problem is, it hasnt always been so. men used to be just as fashion savvy, and will be again. there are phases in american culture, and other cultures that fluxuate from one gender expression having all the visual fun as well as being objectified... then it goes back to the other side.
still, NO MORE CORSETS and more pieces that everyone can wear. thank you.
No dresses? No skirts? No corsets? So basically everyone gets "male" clothing and has to like it? That's horribly hypocritical of you.
Quote:great work on the Imperial set but can males have interesting trenchcoat tails too please? no reason not to port the coats and coat tails.
Women DO NOT have "more costuming needs" than anyone else. since when is someone else's desire to look good more important than mine? i look good and i like looking good and i like having options for looking good. thank you.
I, personally, am of the opinion that there should be gender-specific costume packs (or at least accessory packs like the carnival one), in addition to much larger and more regular costume packs for everyone.
If they want to make a frilly pirate shirt for guys, that's awesome, and they shouldn't have to wait until they have one that works for females too before it gets released. If they have a great idea for a skirt, they shouldn't have to wait until they can make it work for guys too before they release that. If they want to make a Titan weapon that's a giant thing o' lipstick and for whatever reason they decide to make it female-only, that's fine, but there should be back and forth, NOT generic conveyor belt options.
I want fancy, customized, interesting options that cater to my features, not belt-fed costume parts. -
I could never put someone on ignore. They'd figure it out immediately and then begin plotting to depose me and take over my secret volcano lair. Can't have that.
I would, however, appreciate something in-game, (perhaps Null the Gull?) that could tell me anything I'm currently missing from the super packs. perhaps a visual spoiler of the "card list" so that I could see that yes, I still need to obtain the ultra-rare "4x catalyst" card before my set is complete. (note: this does not exist, it's a hypothetical example) -
Quote:lol that site expired two days ago. which is a shame because I was just about to try that...The COH CCG Card Builder still exists and still works, even though it's not technically connected to the AEG website any more.
I've occasionally toyed with the idea of creating a CCG playing program for CoH but I was more interested in basing it around Overpower. I think AEG would still consider their CoH CCG to be technically on life support rather than completely dead. -
I've moved the slider all the way to the left on certain characters to deliberately make them look less human.
The example that sticks in my mind is the plant/human/machine hybrid that wants to turn all flora, fauna, and machina into clones of herself via giant magical blender. This character existed prior to most of the cool android/clockwork features, self-destruct, and even the good "planty" looking costume parts. with just the blast look and some deliberate tweaks to the appearance to make her look slightly "off," I created a character that looked like she did not match the average human.
The best part was that the small tweak there only made her bust look even bigger, so nobody noticed the disturbingly inaccurate proportions until they read my bio and realized what the character was. -
Dink I'd like to offer a special thanks to you for breaking down one of the perceived barriers of the game, this "understood to be true" thing we had where stuff that was that old just "wasn't going to be updated."
It's very nice to see that change.
Although I was an (probably the only?) advocate of exclusive stuff for all body types, I'm in no way opposed to everybody getting cool stuff.
I have no idea yet what I'll be making with these new pieces but you can bet I'll be catching an extreme case of altitis again. -
Honestly most of what they've added villain side has been great.
The first villain I created that I enjoyed a whole lot (but had to shelve when I hit that level and lieutenants were immune to me) was my dominator, whose goal was to construct a magic blender, throw people, machines, and plants into it, and create a clone army of herself.
When the architect came out it was the first thing I made and it was a blast. So I still to this day consider the AE as villain content.
Another great addition was the cloning facility missions. Going up against clones of myself made me really truly feel like a badass. And being betrayed and watching the facility go up in smoke? Icing on the cake.
I love the Mortimer Kal task force and everything leading up to it. more like that, and I'll be happy. I probably shouldn't ask for too much because stuff designed by committee probably wouldn't be as impressive. -
I want to summon a swarm of pugs. Baby pugs. with little pink ribbons tied to their collars.
and I want to play Fris- er, "Flying disc" with them. -
Interesting that there are answers to 1, 2, 4, and 6, leaving only 3 of the 4 prime numbered ones unsolved. :P
As to the "they all have 9 powers" well, some have "Power boost"... -

Quote:But if you do that, your vote will have less of an impact.Clicking through those threads, I actually care a lot about this decision, I'm realizing. So I'm going to stare hard at all of the pictures, and then sleep on it, and come back in a day or two and vote.
/trollface -
The ironic thing about irony is nobody knows the defninition of the word.
-
noooo... vote for rocket pack C!
C!!!
I want a bomb on my back! It would enable so many costume ideas! (granted, I'd probably make it work with other options anyway but it would be a weird looking bomb...) -
Furthermore although the pack is available for a limited time, the individual pieces could be available seperately, and might simply be added to the long list of individual costume pieces players can get as they need.
Thus the bundle would effectlvely be a limited time discount.
However I don't know if this is the plan, so whatever.
And I can't be bothered to entertain this ridiculousness. You got something that a lot of players asked for. complaining about it is stupid. It's not like the gunslinger thing, it's not like they're selling packs that aren't ready for prime time, it's nothing worth wasting your complaints over.
Why would you waste text complaining about an alternative means of getting this stuff? It doesn't demean or lessen your play experience at ALL! -
aww why not all 3! I want a bomb on my back! I love option c here.
