Overdosing on Valentine tips

TL;DR version...

- There are two Valentine tip that cannot be completed by a Vigilante or Rogue:
from Feelings overwhelming my processes, Delivery to B.O.T.L.E.R. (Fort Trident)
from Percy Winkley, Delivery to Can of Trash (Fort Trident)

*** Edit 1: from Arbiter Sands, Misdelivery to Ms. Liberty (Fort Trident) can be completed at Ms. Liberty (Atlas Park) - Link to screenshot proof

*** Edit 2: from Mysterious Napkin Writer, Delivery to Belladonna Vetrano (Underground Neutropolis) can be completed by a Rogue (as well as by a Hero or Vigilante, but not by a Villain) even though it is located in the Resistance Base - Link to screenshot proof

Spreadsheet Notes:
* Names that were different from the Compiling list of Valentines forum thread.
** Valentines that cannot be delivered by a Vigilante or Rogue
# Zone where one or more Valentines tips were dismissed

Also, I did a bunch of extra hunts/dismissing of Valentine tips in Dark Astoria to make sure I got them all. After dismissing 280+ Valentine tips I concluded that the following two reports were incorrect:
from Anti-Matter, Delivery to Dominatrix -or- Misdelivery to Neuron
from Dr. Aeon, Delivery to Olivia Darque -or- Misdelivery to Countess Crey

FYIs:
- Can hold 3 Valentine tips at the same time as 3 Alignment Mission tips. I was slow figuring this obvious fact out.
- Unlike Alignment tips, Valentine tips remain while moving between Paragon, Rogue Isles, and Praetoria.
- Like Alignment tips, Valentine tips clear upon an alignment change. Grr.
- If you switch sides (ie Hero to Villain), you do not have to do the opposite faction's contact to unlock Valentine tip drops again.
- "Arrow of Romance" powers and "Arrow of Jealousy" power each cap at 99 available uses.

Hunted for Valentine tips mainly in Talos Island and Dark Astoria. Dark Astoria, with all the large mobs close together, is now my favorite zone for hunting tips. The only Valentine tip which didn't drop there for me was A Huge Admirer Of Your Work. Early on I tried hunting in Sharkhead Isle and First Ward to see if tips dropped in specific zones. A few dropped in Rikti War Zone during a Mothership Raid event.

! One tip surprised me by dropping in Cap Au Diable when my Phantasm knocked off some mobs near the Vanguard door. Valentine tips, like Alignment tips, are only meant to drop from level 20+ enemies; thus not WAI.

==> My conclusion from all this is that both the Valentine tips and the "Arrow of Romance" / "Arrow of Jealousy" reward powers are subject to the whim of the RNG. If there is some logic table involved, it is too complex for my sample and might as well by RNG.

Characters used:
Vigilante - Dynexus - Level 50+ Controller (Illusion/Force Field): 20120212-0543 until 20120216-0018, 20120216-0150 until 20120218-1614, 20120220-0008 until 20120220-0410
Hero - Prosys - Level 43 Controller (Illusion/Kinetics): 20120216-0120, 20120216-0122, and 20120216-0124
Hero - Dynexus - Level 50+ Controller (Illusion/Force Field): 20120218-1637 until 20120220-0005

***** SPOILERS AHEAD! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! *****

So the reason I tracked all this data over nine days, besides having fun with spreadsheets, was because the Valentine tips made me laugh. I wanted to ensure I saw all the story tidbits.

There were a couple (pun intended) that I especially enjoyed...

Quote:
TO TURNDOWN GIRL FROM DESPERATE GUY...

Valentine Misdelivery

War Witch just gives you a look as you deposit the gift basket in front of her. She spies the kitten, picks it up

and reads the attached note. After a moment she accepts the gifts and motions for you to move along while she

quietly opens the box of chocolates and looks around with guilty eyes.
Hahaha! This was my favorite reaction, by far. Enjoy the chocolates, War Witch!

Quote:
TO LUMINARY FROM CITADEL...

Valentine Delivery

My services are at your disposal, [character]. Oh, what's this?

Luminary reviews the phone message in the span of a heartbeat and then looks over to Citadel.

Yes!
Squee! There's going to be another CoH signature wedding! I like the touch that even a robot measures their cycles for the equivalent of a heartbeat when it comes to romance.

I have to say War Witch's reaction is pretty good...those "guilty eyes" made me laugh.

However, I have to say that of them all, Flambeaux's reactions, by far, are the best. Giving her Proton's and Percy's Valentines made my day. I love how she calls Twin Shot a 'Hussy!'

Her reaction to Percy is classic. Especially at the end...'Who is Percy Winkley and what has he done with my man?!' lol

Current active characters: Dragon Maiden (50+3 Brute SS/WP/PM), Black Widow Maiden (50+1 Night Widow), Catayclasmic Ariel (50 lvl Defender - Kin/DP), Quantumshock (50 lvl Elect/Energy/Energy), American's Defender (38 lvl Tanker - SD/Mace), Spider-Maiden (15 lvl Corruptor - RB/PD) & Siren Shrike (15 lvl Defender - Sonic/Sonic). My entire stable.

That conclusion was redname confirmed in Beta.

Has anyone tried delivering it to the Ms. Liberty standing in front of City Hall?

Yeah, you can delivery the Sands one to the Trainer Liberty. The Fort Trident thing is a glitch whenever there's a talk mission that involves Liberty.

Are you sure you can't deliver Ms. Liberty's valentine to her in Atlas Park? While doing Twinshot's arc, I was directed to Fort Trident to talk to her as well, but I got the same result just by talking to her in Atlas.

Well I do know, for example, that the Citadel in Fort Trident isn't interested in any valentines. He says, "Meet me in Talos!" So you go to Talos and suddenly he's all, "What, you have something for me?"

One of my favorites is misdelivering Faultline's valentine to Lady Grey. She seems to protest a bit too much about not being interested....

Nice to have confirmed that the RNG is WAI for me.

Confirmed. I just completed in Atlas Park the Valentine tip from Arbiter Sands, Misdelivery to Ms. Liberty (Fort Trident) - Link to screenshot proof

I'm too lazy to redo the images in the first post, but I corrected the text information.

Thank you for spotting that, JKCarrier, Mad_Scientist_JC, and NightErrant.

Also good to know that it doesn't work the other way around; thanks, Organica.

I beg to differ. I got this Valentine tip on my Rogue and I was able to complete it.

Really? I thought the underground base was only accessable by Resistance, Hero, and Vigilante alignments. Huh. I'll have to test that out, too.

I did it the first night these were available, so I'm a little fuzzy on how I completed it, but I know it took me a while to figure it out.

At first I didn't think it was completible myself, because I went to the Resistance door in the Underground and it wouldn't let me in. I thought maybe the trick was I had to be teamed with a Resistance aligned character, so I logged one in on my second account.

My Rogue still couldn't get in, but my Resistance character could. Problem was, I couldn't find Belladonna. After much frustration, a little research and probably a modicum of cursing, I realized I was in the wrong part of the Underground. I think I was in Underground Imperial instead of Underground Neutropolis. I went above ground and traveled to Neutropolis, dropped back underground, went to the Resistance door, and it opened for me to reveal Belladonna.

Ultimately I don't think it had anything to do with being teamed with a Resistance character since I couldn't open the other Resistance door, and I'm not even sure if the other character was still logged on when I took my Rogue to Neutropolis. I think it was really just a matter of going to the correct Resistance door.

Hope this helps.

My favorite so far was the valentine (mis)delivered to Television.

Poor Dean-o is missing out on all the fun.
I will have to share some chocolates and an epic high five with him later.

you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you <3

Hm, well at the moment as a Villain I cannot get into the Underground Neutropolis Resistance base where Belladonna Vetrano is located - Link to screenshot proof

I'll try again when I get that specific Valentine tip to drop as a Villain, and again in a couple days without and with the tip as a Rogue.

The Arbiter Sands one..was really strange, him and the hero is is pining for are dating?

How does *that* work!

Posted

Hm, having the tip did not allow my Villain to enter the Underground Neutropolis Resistance Base - Link to screenshot proof

Nor did adding a Hero teammate allow my Villain to enter.

The Hero teammate could enter, but could not deliver the Valentine even when it was selected as the active mission - Link to screenshot proof

Ah, well. It was worth a shot.

I'll try again this weekend after I re-earn the tip on a Rogue.

Well, well!

You were absolutely right. A solo Rogue can get access to the Underground Neutropolis Resistance Base for the Valentine tip - Link to screenshot proof

And Belladonna accepts the Valentine delivery, too - Link to screenshot proof

(This got me curious and so I tried, and successfully entered, the Underground Neutropolis Resistance Base as a solo Rogue again without having the Valentine tip. However my Rogue could gain access to neither the Underground Imperial Resistance Base nor the Underground Nova Resistance Base. I wonder why only Underground Neutropolis is open to Rogues?)

I'll correct the opening post again.

Good catch, mousedroid!
