It's been a great 6 years playing CoX, meeting new and interesting people and discovering the world of Paragon City. Special thanks to those here in the forums that assisted me with advice, challenged my prespective and shared with me the joy that is CoX. My account will end come the termination of December and I'd like to re-vamp a somewhat mothballed Rad/Fire/Scorp Blaster for one last go of it. I've included my build plan below and would really like for the people here in the forums to take a look at him b4 I sink the rest of my cash into this. I haven't included any incarnate buffs as I'm not sure I'll have the time to get him there. Hypothetically, I think I'd go Cardiac/Pyre/Reactive/Clarion/Clockwerk but not 100% sure aboot that.
Thanks in advance for any info/tips/sugguestions. Feel free to be frank, I won't be around long enough to find you :P

You won't be able to CAP your HP on ELEC armor but that doesn't mean you can't build towards it with IOs. On my own proposed build a few threads up I'm getting almost 450 more hp from IOs. This doesn't include any accolades or incarnates either. That's a hefty boost to survival any way you slice it.

Hola Superfriends,
I don't usually build tankers (I have all but 3 over a 6 year span) but was thinking it's high time for a Incarnate tank. What I thought would be be fun and effective for this was Elec/DM/Soul. 90% nrg resistance? Yes plz!
My thought with this particular build was to get with-in 1 purple of 45% S/L damage and 2 purps for n.erg/eng. After that I wanted to squeeze as much +HP/+Regen/Recharge into the build as I could muster. Please give this a look-see and tell me where I may have wasted slots or otherwise gone astray. Thank you.

A long, long while back I seem to recall there being a post that detailed how to build a Stone Armor Brute that used IO's in such a manner as to negate the -Run penality in Granite AND Rooted. I've spent some time (30 minutes actually) attempting to locate it and sadly, I cannot. With Titan Weapons no-doubt nearing completion, I'd very much like to get a leg up on designing this toon in mids. Should any of you kind brute formites have information on this long lost link please do share it with me.
Thank You,
Organ -
I'm playing around with a 42 KM/EA/Body stalker and it's been real effective with the stuns in KM and the PBAoE stun with EA. THat being said, Toxic and Psi baddies are still an epic PITA. Energizes helps some but it still hurts.

Have always wanted Elec/DM/Soul to slay the massive amounts of illegal Rikti hiding in our sewer system.

Hi Bliz,
The first thing I noticed while looking at your build was your use of Mako's Bite and Gaussians. These IOs provide "positional" typed defense bonuses such as "melee", "ranged" and "AoE". Energy Aura provides "typed" which include "smashing/lethal", "energy/n.energy" and "fire/cold". And while those sets I mentioned do provide some "typed" defense, you're not getting the most bang for your buck as it were. You'll want to focus on using IO sets that provide "typed" first and "positional" second.
After you soft-cap yourself to the 6 main typed damages, I'd recommend slotting for +hp/+regen/+recharge. Psi and Toxic damage are going to be your main threats on an energy build but finding IOs that can help you mitigate these specific types of damage are far and few between and with no base defense/resistance to build off of can be difficult to make a meaningful difference.
A good bet is to add hitpoints to your toon so you can soak an extra hit or two from these "exotic" damage types. Regen will help with this issue as well. The added recharge will help you get your big hitters back up sooner along with your impotant clickies. -
Stalkers are an aquired taste from my vantage point. I've tried a few combos but have only 2 that regularly play (Elec/Nin/Mu and KM/Nrg/Body) which I believe are fairly FOTM builds. An EM/Regen I made back in i6 is still level 33. Just can't stomach it to play him.

Outside of suspension of disbelief I don't know what to tell you. Not every set is going to appeal to every player. As I mention earlier, I didn't think I'd be able to get into DP. Then I paired it with Traps and it was golden. Also, I disliked Kinetic Melee from the get go but now find I love it on Stalkers (tankers/brutes/scrappers still not so much). I guess what I'm getting at is wait till TW drops, play around with it and chances are, you'll find something that works with it.

Quote:What the hell are you two talking about?
When did I say I cared about real world physics? My problem with the set is that it DOESN'T LOOK AWESOME AT ALL.
I had to use caps, in case you miss my point again.
Take a look at Dual Pistols. Personally, I dislike the set. Then again, I dislike playing Blasters.
However, the animations for the set are amazing. They're the reason I keep trying different combos with DP(both blaster and corruptor).
They're completely unrealistic, but amazing none-the-less. The characters using DP do not look like they picked up the guns for the very first time. They know what they're doing.
To use a different example: the characters using Broadsword, War Mace or Battle Axe, aren't making beautiful swings. However, their swings look relatively smooth. Even the most awkward looking swings, the cone attacks like Slice and Crowd Control, look natural.
These things are lacking, for the most part, in the animations shown in that earlier video.
The character looks like they're a righty trying to be a lefty. It would be like me trying to throw a baseball with my left hand. I may get the ball where I want it to go, but it will look a little funny.
It simply is not up to the standard we've had thus far in this game.
See, I find DP animations to be over-the-top silly and on the longish side. But I take it all in-stride and it hasn't kept me from enjoying my dp/traps. -
I'm of the school of thought that Regen needs only better -regen resistance and -recharge rate resistance to be a good set once again. Oh, and buff Revive.

Quote:Dark Melee/Fiery Aura is a fun combo. What's not to love about two heals and two end recovery powers? Went with Pyre mastery and never looked back.
As for Fiery Melee/Dark Armor, I've never tried it, but I've seen a handful of pretty tough characters running it. I'm not a huge fan of /Dark, myself, but it has potential.
SSshhhh, you'll summon the Dechs and he shall lay waste to this thread. -
Sir, I am unworthy of your attention! Thanks so much for the info and that clip. The rocket mallet made me LOL and hard. It does make sense now. The AoE on that set looked fairly robust. With the fast animations I'm now certain I'll be rolling either /WP or /Ela. Good stuff.

I is are confused!
Someone please explain how "momentum" works to me. I thought it caused attacks to recharge faster but it sounds like it's something completely different. -
My vote: Dark/FA/Soul
You'll have access to Shadow Maul, Soul Drain, Dark Consumtion? (forget the name!), Burn, Burning Aura and Dark Obliteration (PPP). You'll not be hurting for AoE damage at all.
Fire/Dark is by no means a poor choice but the easier road to 50 and beyond lies with the former imho. -
[QUOTE=Adamant;3950365So far it's very unique and it's nice to see a new AoE focused melee set.
After the awesome that was WM/SD for scrappers, I feel forced to roll TW as one as well (note: I know it can't be paired with SD) for the delicious AoE crit-goodness. Wanted to go /WP on the brute side for added HP/Regen but I'm a lowly slave to the crit monster. -
TW/WP FTW!
I was leaning towards TW/Ela but if redraw is a killer than I'll let it pass. -

Quote:If we looked at it as a CoH team:
THOR: Hammer/Elec Brute
IRON MAN: En/En/Munitions Blapper (reminds me a lot of a few loons I started out with...)
CAPPY: SS/Shield Scrapper
SCARLET(T): MA/Ninja stalker with tons of gadgetty temp powers
HAWKEYE: Archery/TA Defender
NICK: Soldiers/Traps MM
...needs a healzor. Hmmm... *phones Whedon*
But speaking of Whedon, hopefully Scarlett comes across as the seasoned pro player trying to cope with an indisciplined mob of diva tanks.
THOR: WM/ELEC Brute
IRON MAN: Human-form PB. Perma-Light Form has really buffed the AT.
CAP: MA/SD Scrapper
HAWKEYE: Arch/TA Defender
NICK: MERCS/TRAPS MM -
I can't advocate Elec/Thorns combo due to thorns DoT damage. It has the nasty tendency to wake slept mobs. I know the Elec sleep is a pulse but still, you don't need that kind of trouble. Fire/Thorns is a nice pairing IMHO.
-
Another vote for ICE/TIME here. I have it on a defender and can solo +2/x8. Ice Storm and BLizzard would be insane with Scourge. The extra holds are nice from a controlish stand-point as well.
EDIT: I have yet to Incarnate this toon. I suspect that when I go 50+1 I could tackle some +4 mobs. -
Well, people will tell you it's all subjective and on some level they're right but for thr Stalker AT, some sets are better than others in literal ways. As one poster mentioned, Spines/Regen is an underperfroming set. Regen isn't all that great on Stalkers because the AT has the LOWEST HP's of any AT. It also lacks any inherent defense so you'll get hit more, which on a low HP AT hurts AND it'll mess up your attempts at Placating and AS'ing. Spines isn't horrible as it provides some decent AoE for Stalker but it's damage type is usually highly resisted and some of its animations are long.
The sets that I find "above average" are listed below (in no order).
1. Elec/Nin/Mu: Good single target damage, less resisted damage type, Defense Based, has self heal, caltops and perhaps the best AoE damage of any stalker set and the ability to open your attack with semi-nuke power that doesn't break hide, allowing you to follow up with Ball Lightining or Thunder Strike for massive AoE critting.
2. KM/Energy/Mako: The new energy aura is quite good now. It includes a PBAoE Stun that stacks very nicely with the stuns in KM, has a self heal/endurance discount/regen power, some +recharge and other goodies. And as previous posters mentioned, Burst, the set's PBAoE attack, crits 100% of the time from hide. I chose Mako for Water Spout. Good stuff. -
Gavin,
If you really want to speed just shoot for the objectives/glowies/defeat x toon, bring red and purple candy and ninja run if you have it.
