do you all realise that a ice primary would break one of our strongest tool, placate?
any slow or - rech applyed on a mob would make him ignore the placate effect (like placating a mob that is walking on you caltrops)
and a ice set that doesn't apply a -spd,-rech debuff would not be a true ice set.
maybe it's why they won't made a ice set for stalker. -
-
hum.. i was not having the impression to tell secrets, more my feeling about the set. but you made me doubt ^^'
just in case i erased it -_-
sorry -
yeah and moreover
ice power generally benefit more from long fight.
i mean what is the interest of slowing and flooring a mob rech when you while insta kill it and/or placate it?
it would work on a brute/scrapper/tank but even if you do play your stalker like a scrapper, it doesn't mesh well with a silent assassin imo
i mean even /regen on a stalker is designed with placate/AS "hit & run" playstyle in mind -
i'm not necessarily (as my 2 exemples show it) aiming at damage proc only.
chance to stun, to hold, to placate... those "trick" proc appeal me a lot too.
of course as the chance to heal proc is sadly a so unfunny joke, that i may ignore it. -
i explain a bit.
i love the idea of having proc in every power.
i rolled a ice/thorn dominator with that in mind a while ago.
the idea was damage proc en coercive proc in AA+ damage proc in thorn trop and the chance for placate and chance for heal in the AoE sleep
the AA thing was awesome but ice still lacked hard control and thorn letal damage was really too weak (was before doms change )
then i tried a plant/rad controller for both carrion and choking cloud potential but i feel like there are better combinasion.
i do love patch or aura power (aka passive proc mule)
what would be for you the best toon to roll that would benefit a lot from proc ? -
i stick on this thread to see if i could get an answer without creating another one.
i don't understand how scourge can be taken in the picture while comparing both at's.
for exemple:
for a arch/rad emision defender, even if there is no scourge, with the better buff %, the damage are way betters on RoA than for a corruptor (and that without putting PBU in the equation)
i assume then that defenders debuff being more strong than the corr version, the impact on the damage are the same when we compare the Two ATs
scourge is nice ok, but, it only kicks in when mobs are about to dies.
it means not all the time.
i fail to understand how we can say that scourge means "better overhall damage"
i'm very confused -
i rolled on for the same reason (plus cause the elec aura, when turned green, would be nice coupled with the vanguard costume set
)
the worst toon i ever played.
ok you can sustaine a high fury, but your damage are still weak compared to another brute that is not at full fury like you. your attack are fast but you need more and your endurance is drained like if there was some hidden sapper that follow you everywhere.
some people will argue that perma energize can maybe counter that, i'll say that perma energize is an obligation.
resistance wise... ok it was my first resistance based toon.. OMG... never felt that fragile.. (and i use to play almost only squishy save a MA/SR scrapstalker)
energize regen is trivial and will not be of any help.
i had rolled a claw/dark brute it was way better a everything my claw/elec was doing (well exept that dark aura is less vanguard like and my fly speed was slower ^^')
was hopping for a power "rikti farming" house, i got really disappointed. -
question to the OP
do you say "thanks" and "please" to the tank at each group of mob he ran into and / or taunted for you to be alive and keep waiting for people to ask you politely to do your job? ^^
cause yes it's your job. no matter if you like it or not, you took a support AT.
i'd love personnally to see seven "thx dude" on my 8man team each time when i hit dominate to mezz a boss but i don't expect it.
come on, it's not a question of good or bad manner at all. when i ask for a sb it's
1/ cause having a /kin in the team and not being SB'ed is like having a desert eagle w/o any bullet
2/cause i know that monitoring seven people for buffing them can be a lot of work and boring (but on the other hand, nobody force anyone in choosing a buffing toon), so it's more for helping the buffer than for annoying him
and that
Quote:it explains a lot too ^^by the time it's taking to type to ask for a buff and time it takes to type thanks for a buff your sucking floor -
level 12
it's the most painfull time i had for only 2 level.
elec armor is made of paper. i can't even run more than 2 togle otherwise it just suck me dry of end.
the first boss i meet destroy me in 2 or 3 blow, it's a real nightmare O_o -
i can't remember when i read that much the expression tankmage in a thread..
oh yes, was in a old D3 fender discussion : ) -
nobody took mako for arctic breath?
a ranged cone that deals some damage, apply -spd -rech -res -def and do KD seems to be a nice debuff no? -
level 10 so far.
i rolled both to have a "feel" of each set.
it's my first time as a brute
i must says i'm confused. i feel really weak (damage wise and it seems i'm in paper. especially with the Ela one)
for the moment it seems that those brute will ranks way under a crab or a AoE oriented widow/fort
is this normal? ^^' -
as the tittle suggest, i have issues choosing between the two.
Ela got energize a built in haster and a nice tier nine but the 0% toxic resistance coupled with the set being pure resistance make me fear for my ability to survive (and i will not be able to pruchase 5 purple set or do intensive IO slotting)
Dark seems better to me as i never rolled a toon that would have no defense at all, and with cloak+cj and maybe maneauver i could achieve something like 14% def all which is nice coupled with the res
but even if i can enhance my defense even more with some IO sets, would something like 20% def matters?
should i not go for res or +hp/regen instead?
same for Ela, beside toxic and maybe some psi res, what should i aim for?
+rech to have my tier nine more and energize perma?
+ regen to enhance the regen in energize?
it's for PvE -
just to add a point in favor of empty clip, it got -def
you can slot the chance for -res proc in it.
most of the time you will be on fire bullet or toxic bullet ammo. empty clip would help fire to do even more damage and helps you to keep doing more damage than regular ammo while you toxically debuff the damage you will receive. (where bullet rain only keep range as a merit) -
does anyone really need the nuke we get ?
i mean it's at best an emergency power when they get a strong side effect (like waill stun for exemple) but as a defender we are supposed to get such power in our primary, no?
i don't see how we could see them as a boost to our damage. i mean , crash plus the long recharge means that they are horrible dps wise and anyway even with fulcrum the damage is not "that nuking" on those powers
the only exeption i see are full auto and RoA, they still get the problem of having a too long casting time but they are crash less and get a nice damage/rech ratio
what if all the defender level 38 power where builded on the same design?
NB: how comes that dark servant and human form warshade are so alike?! ^^ -
i'd rather being allowed to play a vanguard wizard personnally..
-
i also may be very bad, but solo wise, the combo was not very survivable and the damage was not as high as on the paper.
team wise, the RoA was always hitting dead corps :s -
mass hypno= not a 100% safe solution vs all
-
Quote:no defender will ever come close to the speed of a fire/kin troller. being slower is not necesserally that bad (if we speak in term of some minutes more of course. if you need an hour...^^)
Dark/Dark fits together very well, and can have a high survivability, but it's also not going to come close to the speed of a fire/kin troller (etc.) for farming.
I'd probably vote for Kin/Arch, primarily for the fast recharge and devastating power of FS + RoA. I don't know how survivable it'd be though.
i rolled a kin/arch a long time ago. was a good idea on the paper. it turned to be horrible
the FS problem
mob.
you need to be literrally in mobs, and you have nothing in the set to prevent the incoming *** kicking you are going to take.
ok you have debuffed their damage, and you got a heal, but at RoA level you will always get hit by one or 2 mezz. and some mob even debuffed can still destroy you in 2 or 3 blow.
the RoA problem
first of all RoA even fully aimed and fulcrumed is not even vear blasters unbuffed level.
S/L damage are resisted by anything, and def cap is simply too low. (i assume that throwing pbu in that would not help at all)
don't even think of eliminating a spawn with your RoA alone.
more than that, the real main problem for me with RoA was the time there is between the moment it aggro the spawn (YOU aggro them) and the time the first arrwos kicks in.
usually mobs will have run toward you when the first damage is dealed, making the mob being outside it's area of effect.
if you add to that the aggro you made with fulcrum , a kin/arch will have terrible problem to find a safe way to do the FS+RoA combo.
for me a dark or a trick arrow / arch would perform almost better. i mean safer, and with pbu , aim and the - res those set can provides; your damage would be almost equal
AND you would have something to ROOT the spawn.
wheiter dark/ or trick/ would be better, i don't know.
the -to hit of dark and the fact ark servant could work as a aggro magnet (that would helps to keep the mob packed) is appealing.
i don't know trick arrow well
well like anyone i know it's horribly annoying glue patch of doom
but concerning how well it could debuff mob to add in safety or in damage dealing i have no clue
as usual, sorry for the bad english, the grammar ... bla bla bla ^^ -
yeah lockdown proc is awesome in choking clooud. plus it has the good idea to be very identifiable (elec hold animation)
on my rad troller it seems to trigger VERY often
i know it's a bit expensive, but only me think that the coercive persuasion proc in world of confusion is a good tool too? ^^'
for patch on the other hand i'm a bit confused.
on my ice/thorn dom, the proc of my thorntrop is really wonderfull when coupled with the 2 (or 3 i don't remember) i have in arctic air.
on the other hand in tar patch.. it's at best a "customisation" -
last question, mezz !
i came to realise that i never played a toon that had no mezz protection/resistance of some sort.
AM, mezz shield for meleer, sonic aura, domination..
how do you handle the stun/hold that will cross your road? -
Quote:That you don't like/agree with something doesn't make the counter position dead. There's still a place for a support role. Just ask most of the Controllers who aren't Fire/Kin. Because, you know, not all Controllers are Fire/Kin - something people taking your position seem to conveniently overlook all too often.
facts are that AT break their own rules now.
saying that a damage boost would not fit their original designed role have no more meaning.
i'm not talking about how i liked this statement. -
Quote:yes but this kind of statement is long dead in this gameI would agree that defenders overall would be much more appreciated if they had a damage boost, but in all honesty defenders are meant to support the team first.. .
dev, gave damage to anyone, mezz to anyone.. rules of "your role is" doesn"t existe anymore.
how would it be possible then that the faster farmer (not the safer, the one that deals the more aoe damage) blue side is a controller? pure support AT that doesn't even have a damage dealing primary or secondary? -
just to know, how a D3 def handle ùob with high defense?
i see no D3 build that include tactics (only maneuver)
i don't recall dark misama having a defense debuff, so how could you debuff mob that you can't hit? (no aim in dark) :s
