  1. The question you should be asking yourself is not "how can I survive post nuke," but rather "how can I kill moar post nuke."

    Nuke used to be the pinnacle of damage but not anymore. Now you can alternate shield charge and lightning rod every 30 seconds and not miss a beat. Compare that to nukes that you can have up every 90 seconds on a high recharge build that crashes your endurance.

    Sure nukes do more damage than SC and LR, but is the extra down time and the longer recharge really worth that extra bit of damage?
  2. It's time true blaster nukes got some form of a buff. Nowadays they are eclipsed by shield charge and lightning rod, which although not as damaging, are a lot more practical to use. I'd be happy if their recharge was cut down but I wouldn't mind if all true nukes got the EMP treatment where it doesn't drain the user but halts recovery.
  3. My DS/FF is a succubus, so my bubble is swanky pink, to enclose my friends in my sexy bubbles of hedonism, which protects them from harm, because they are being hedonistic so they ignore what pain they are suffering.
  4. Get end by alternating DC and Conserve power. You have aid self, at the cost of a really really terribly slotted true grit.

  7. Attacks depend on a hit roll and thus are affected by chance too. As such they, like seekers, are extremely unreliable and should not be used, at all.

    I'd say most of the traps gurus would side with Frosticus on this one. Traps is all about layered mitigation, the sum is greater than each of it's parts. Caltrops->trip mine might be all you need but there is a lot more to traps than those powers and you can get exponentially more mileage out of traps if you choose to use them. None of the traps powers are mutually exclusive, so it's not "caltrops or else", you can have "else" too.

    For this one I built for ranged defense. If you slot level 33 set IOs for all your powers you get 42% ranged def at level 30 and 85% recharge which is slightly better than your original build.

    HOs aren't that hard to attain, a few STFs and you should have those cytos/enzymes.

    FYI Power Boost only helps your controls, benumb, and the slight defense bonus in fog and manuevers, but not the shields, you probably already know that. If you wanted it because of aid self, then you can drop teleport and maneuvers, at the cost of 7.5 recharge and around 6% ranged defense.
  11. I have a max recharge fire/elec blapper with no defense still able to hang with people that do speed lgtf/ITF runs. I know softcap is all the rage nowadays but people survived back in the days when there were no set bonuses by relying on skill and inspirations, plus having all the mitigation in MC doesn't hurt your chances either.

    If I wanted to build a defense toon I'd build towards that goal. The goal for this build is to cram as much recharge as possible to compensate for the lack of stamina, so as to have HL on a 5 second downtime.

    I wouldn't skip mesmerize (chain sleeping AVs in Khan TF, STF, etc, nuff said). If you want slows from snow storm, might as well get something that slows and does damage, like the attacks from ice mastery. ice blast can be substituted with frost breath for the same 6.25 bonus and the benefit of having another area slow to stack with sleet and HL (which has a ridiculous slow anyway), and FB will also raise your global ACC to about 40%.

    Having 111% global recharge and perma hasten is a lot more consistent than hoping the FF proc goes off in torrent. With that much recharge you could also toss all the damage procs into sleet along with the AH proc and one end redux and turn it into a mini nuke.
  13. Overall it looks good, the rest come down to personal preference.

    If it were me I'd dump the winters res slow IO and put that slot into adrenaline boost for end mod. This way you can allow blasters to recover immediately after their nuke. In my experience the 20% slow resist doesn't offer any meaningful contribution when you are slowed because when you are slowed, you are really slowed such that the 20% buffer might as well not even be there. Both are fairly situational but I prefer the former.

    Consider how much value recall friend adds to your build. The only purpose is serves right now is to recall dead or dying teammates to get them out of trouble or to tp people to mission. What's the value of having that as opposed to something like knockback protection or a useful combat travel power?
  14. putting that many recharges in clear mind won't do you any good. The power has a long animation time and by the time it finishes CM is up again even without all those recharges. You'd get more bang for your buck moving those slots elsewhere.

    Massive Recharge

    The PvP heal set offers 7.5% recharge at 5 slots, and you have a lot of powers that take them as a regen. I don't believe those stack with the lotg 7.5s so you could have another 5 7.5% bonus on top of the 5 lotg 7.5s

    then you can slot your melee stuff with crushing impact and obliterations for more 5% recharge.

    If you had that kind of bankroll...
  16. Take all the slots out of swift (see below), health (you have a self heal) and clear mind (recharges fast enough already). I'd take all the slots out of resurrect too, if you are doing your job that power won't get used much.

    Healing aura, heal other can use some end redux and recharge, Fortitudes needs more defense, and if you can, stick an end mod in adrenaline boost so blasters can recover immediately post nuke.

    The only reason I would take swift over hurdle is if I were using hover for combat movement. You only have fly but you have CJ, so drop swift for hurdle and don't bother slotting it.

    I'd also slot recall friend with range rather than rech. Since pets are perma now you can also opt to take one rech out of sing.
  17. You are not going to be an AoE monster but Mind has a decent single attack chain. Slot mesmerize for damage, not sleep. The sleep lasts long enough already. Terrify should be slotted for damage as well, it's your only AoE damage from mind control and the fear lasts long enough to allow you to perma terrify a group.

    Survivability wise, IOs really help out in that department.

    My build omitted a lot of powers but she still functions very well solo or teamed. She also sports 50% s/l defense, and 45 ranged/psi defense, +43% damage from IO bonuses +assault.

  18. Been a while since i dusted off my ar/dev but you can't joust trip mine. Some PbAOEs you can joust, like any of the pbaoe nukes, powersink, etc. Targetted pet summons you can joust, like PA, imps, etc. But the stationary pets like burn, ice patch, and trip mine will summon the pet where you land, not at the point you activated the power.

    That said, you can go into a group, set up a mine and hop out before it blows up and que up your cone.

    Help me decide

    Fire/elec is my favorite blaster by leaps and bounds. Fast animations+hard hitting attacks make a very devastating combination and it has endurance management to boot. It'll cater well to your blapping tendencies. It also has a good array of both aoe and ST attacks so offensively it's very versatile.

    However, it doesn't have as mitigation as say your fire/ice. But if you are the sort to fall into a blasterlock trance when you blap then this is the toon for you!

    If you don't want to do fire again ice/elec is just as good, with more mitigation at the cost of less aoe.
  21. Deceive doesn't draw aggro, the CP proc does if it fires. I wouldn't trade aggro free control for 5% ranged defense, unless I already have tons of ranged defense to stack on top.

    Anyway between GI, SF and PA you don't really need to build for defense. Deceive also works well for those few that break off and chase you.

    No Stamina is fine, especially with a high recharge build that can alternate RA and CP. Power boost is awesome just for the benefits it provides on the EMP side and it's ideal for a support oriented ill/emp. Don't worry about stacking defense bonuses, this build doesn't need it. Also, I don't like fly for an emp, when you need to be mobile to provide the support your team needs, fly doesn't cut it.

    For survival, /ice

    Shiver makes mobs take longer to get to you and it guts their recharge. It's almost like speeding up the animation times on the DP attacks. Ice patch is cute, useful at times. You also get a hold to stack with suppresive fire. Chilblain is the best single target immob among blaster secondaries, it does damage and -spd -rech even if the immob doesn't stick.

    I don't see anything special about energy, devices or mental in terms of how they compliment DP in the survival department.

    Lot of people get all excited about boost range but between boost range and shiver I'd rather have shiver, as that lowers recharge as well. Personally I think boost range is marginally useful in PvE under some very specific circumstances. Unless you have mad cones, then it becomes much more useful.

    Devices has caltrops, very handy power, but no build up. If I were to choose between caltrop and build up, I'd choose build up, especially considering the fact that DP has no aim. I can get invis from SS+IO on my other blaster builds so at best cloaking device is a LoTG mule. Trip mine just takes too long to set up.

    Mental has Drain Psyche, a single target kb and a single target fear. Shockwave isn't that reliable as a stun and WoC is a joke. A lot of these require you to be in melee range though and overall I feel the mitigation value these provide pale in comparison to one single application of shiver. Scream does do -recharge though, and it does decent damage and the cone has a pretty long range.

    On the plus side, EM does have two fast hard hitting melee attacks to augment your offense, and mental has two extra aoes to augment your offense. If you are of the "kill them first before they kill me" school then these will be of more value to you.

    Elec/Nrg Build

    It's your concept, your build, but I will say this:

    Staying at range works till the baddies get in your face, and power thrust only works on one mob at a time. There are maps out there that will limit how high you can hover above out of harm's way. When those situations arise you will need to know to take care of yourself, and I don't mean expecting/demanding the tank/controllers/other types of support to take aggro from you. Good blasters don't whine and curl up in the fetal position when a few mobs break off and head for them. Use mobility, terrain, inspirations and exploit the weak enemy ai to your advantage, and you'll be a lot better off than players that only rely on defense to overcome their squishiness.
  25. Glaring issues with the build:

    Slotting everything with complete sets isn't always the best. Look at your bonuses and decide what bonuses you want to build towards.

    No aim

    No build up

    You can blap with hover but it works a lot better with CJ, hurdle and SS.

    Below's my ice/eng alt build with ranged defense. My main build focuses on recharge and damage and I find that one a lot more exciting to play. Why ranged defense on a blapper? because I use those melee attacks without staying in melee range.
