Mind/FF help please. :)
You are not going to be an AoE monster but Mind has a decent single attack chain. Slot mesmerize for damage, not sleep. The sleep lasts long enough already. Terrify should be slotted for damage as well, it's your only AoE damage from mind control and the fear lasts long enough to allow you to perma terrify a group.
Survivability wise, IOs really help out in that department.
My build omitted a lot of powers but she still functions very well solo or teamed. She also sports 50% s/l defense, and 45 ranged/psi defense, +43% damage from IO bonuses +assault.

Not saying this is perfect, but for teaming I'd be tempted for something like the build posted below. It gives up Slash / Lethal defense for Recharge necessary to get Mind Control powers back quickly. Ranged Defense is close to the cap (a little less now that Blessing of the Zephyr has been adjusted).
I'm not going to take the time to adjust it here, but IMO an even better build would drop Mesmerize altogether. Once your recharge is good enough it becomes much less important on a teaming build. You simply have too many good powers to spam to worry about playing single target Blaster. On a team with other Controllers you will also note a huge damage increase, because of their containment setting up your AoE damage cone.
Note my change to the Primal App, mostly for Power Boost. I love love love Power Boost on a Mind Controller and I think you will too. Every single power in Mind Control benefits from Power Boost, and so do your shields.
The choice to take Repulsion Field is yours to make. I personally love this power, especially on a character with no -Knockback. It's not an all-the-time power, but something to switch on when you're overwhelmed, a key mezz misses, or you're fighting those annoying werewolves that run at you full speed. The power is basically autohit and doesn't cause travel suppression. Plus you can slot the chance for +100% Recharge in there. It won't completely stop incoming attacks but combined with your huge Ranged defense it can really work well. Bonus points to you if you figure out the trick of locking enemies in the corner with it.
Mass Hypnosis is on 18 second Recharge with this build and you should abuse that appropriately. You should also play with combinations of powers. Mind Control is an incredibly toolbox. For example, if you open with Mass Hyp followed by Total Dom few things can shoot you, because anything missed by Total Dom is still asleep. If you open with Mass Confuse before the rest of the team is there and there's a chance enemies will accidentally kill each other, sleep them all.

The Fire epic was definitely the pick back in the day when those Wartroller guides were written, but since the addition of 5th powers to the pools others have become viable for AoE damage as well. Now all the pools have something to offer for this style of play. It's a matter of picking the one that suits your needs the most.
If you're leaning towards team play then I second Tex's suggestion of the Primal pool. Powerboosted Shields go a long way at keeping your teammmates alive and Conserve Power can help deal with endurance issues. Ice and Stone are also good contenders considering the amount of defense gained from their armors and both offer some decent AoE damage. Ice also has the advantage of an all-in-one panic button/health/endurance recovery power. I've run with both, Stone on my fire/ff and Ice on my plant/ff.
So I read about a WarTroller a while ago and it sounded interesting. I've checked out the guide in the Stickied FAQ too.
This is my current build.

Her endurance issues are horrible (yes I will pick up End boosting Accolades). I expected to be able to solo but it doesn't feel as if she can kill quickly enough for that to be anything other than painful. No, I don't expect scrapper-level but everything solo seems so unbearably slow.
Generally I don't do sets until 50 and I think the character is worth it. Right now, I am not comfortable that she is.
I have considered a second build for soloing purposes. I would take out deflection and insulation shield on that and add tough. However, that just seems to improve survivabilty not damage.

So my question is - am I being unrealistic with this WarTroller build? Have things changed so much since the original idea? Or do I just need to spend a LOT of money to get the idea to work?
My ill/sonic controller did benefit from the End boost Accolades and also a build tweak but she always felt as if she just needed 'a little something'. This girl just feels like an end-sucking buff bot.
Any ideas/comments would be welcome. Thank you.
