  3. Thanks for this great thread

    I'm actually working on a stj/regen scrapper.
I don't really know how to build this thing, because I encounter some problems with End Management.. (althrough i don't count Mog reco bonus in the equation..).

Anyway, i've come to a build, that can be tweaked i guess.. so any input would be really helpfull.

I can't afford all purples set / pvp sets

    So for the head-line :
24-27% def to the 3 pos
+63.8 rech (5sec short of perma hasten).

    choice

For me the main advantage that got earth over ice is the inherent def debuff.

Else the 2 power set have enough tool to be the only troller on a team.

I would like to point over the argumentation of local_man, that while ice got less hard control than earth, he is less dependent of recharge than earth.

And his 2 main form of control (ice slick / AA) will be nearly as effective on boss than on minion/lt.

Now if couple ice with rad/cold/storm you just fill the hole of the set : having debuff.

So really choose the set depending of the play still, like local_man explained.
  5. My Though :
    - remove the 2 gota from invicibility and put 1 HO in it.
    - The free slot, put in health and move the unique miracle in it.
    - Now you can slot dull pain like it would be with doctored wound for example, to max the recharge or max rech / health if you don't mind to loose the 5% rech rate bonus.

    - Do you really need physical perfection ? With the new incarnate slot ... i would remove those 2 power and air sup for taking fireball and slot it.

You won't be anymore to the soft cap with 1 foe, you will need like 3 or 4 for that but well .. i think i would rather have fire ball to complete my aoe chain than 4% more def.
  6. How exactly is working the new fire embrace ?

Espescially, does the buff still have a shorter duration for non fire based attack ?
  7. hello,

    Quote:
I'm also trying to slot for survivability. I typically just run around with Sprint, Steamy Mist, and Weave active.
For more survivability you will need the epic shield ice, here you don't focus on either ranged or mele def so really it make thing too spread.

    Quote:
Maybe some time down the line I'll be able to solo an AV, once I'm purp'd out, or at least when I have perma-PA.
You are lacking dmg and heavly. Would need to have a blast and slot blind for dmg.

    So :
    - You're going heavy on def power, why don't you take ice shield ?
    - lacking a blast
    - freezing rain would really benefit from the achil heel proc -res
    - you can put a hold proc in lighting storm (ae hold when it proc)
    - blind => slot it for dmg ! like 4 bazilic and 2 dmg io
    - Deceive => need the contagious purple io
    - Stamania => put the stam proc from performence shifter, it's better than any IO in this power.
    - You could save slot in weave / steamy mist by using 1 HO.
-2 slot snow storm is useless => 1 end red would be enough.
    - You've got 3 bonus +6,25% recharge speed useless because you've got already 5 bonus liek this one.

It sounds like you don't like tier 9s with their big crashes.

Without IOs, for survivability /SR>> invul and shield.

With mega IOs, invul is probably best, but all 3 are perfectly fine.
I though for toxic dmg their was no hit check.

    I might be wrong.

I like t9s power, i've got unstopable on my invul, but on a SR even without io you are 3% from soft cap (cj, weave , manoeuvre)... so yes for me it's an useless power.

One with the shield won't make you really more resillant but unsto will (well for exotic domage apart psy).

Don't get me wrong i like shield def, but i can do thing with my invul scrapper that i can't do with my shield one. And this is tanking.

I'm softcapped on the shield, and softcap S/L/E on the invul.

invul just got more tool than shield def for this and it is :
    -heavy native S/L resist.
    -higher exotic resist than shield
-A big heal, or +hp/+regen power
-A T9 that will actually make you cap your resist (all but psy)

So saying invul is overated and nearly as effective (or less) than a shield def toon is a bit biased i think.

Basically, if you start fighting things that debuff defenses AND do a non-physical damage (Clockwork in the new TFs), you will be hurting. Also, Invulnerability has no built-in protection against psionic damage and limited toxic protection (Apex has nasty toxic damage in one part). The healing component (Dull Pain) of Invulnerability is very low on HP/s, which is why it needs to be paired with DM.

Positional defense sets (Shield and SR) are protected against all damage types. There are only a few attacks in the game that ignore defense completely and they are easy to avoid, and/or are not a threat. Willpower and Regen can mitigate any damage type as well, through healing. They do require significant investment to increase defense though.
Shield, got the same %resist def debuff than invul, if you don't invest in HO (so a lot of people have the same as invul). You will better when you can actually have perma 2 active def stacked. And this only if you took grant cover.

I won't even talk about unstopable that will let you tank a lot of thing, compared to elude that is useless (well nearly), and One with the shield that is not really better (well at least it can have his use).

Those 2 set (sd/sr) have also a hole in toxic dmg.

Overall, my invul scrapper (spine/invul) is more ressillant than my shield scrapper, except for two thing : carnies / psy clockwork.

For the SR i don't know, i never played this set.

Ice is like fire, you control just behind the melee guys => here you see the utility of a wide AoE hold.

2 of the ice main control power don't need hit check to be effective and this make the set really good for me.

Top of that, those 2 powers are mixing control from kb, confuse, slow and the recharge on those two power is inexistant / fast.
This ensure you to have a tool for nearly any situation, while a lot of other set only have 1 stapple power (and furthermore 1 form of control) to rely on.

Sure you won't lock down pop like earth set, but ice is really a good control set.
  11. i would go recharge, and some ranged deff if you don't plane going in melee (hurricaine will take care of melee), and with the recent inherent stamania, aid self could be handy too.

Carnies mish with boss are a real pain for any secondary.
Just /dark can do some ok stuff agains em due to the good native psionic resist and the nice heal.
  14. Sorry
I mean you and mid's are right !

Rttc satured will grant more regen than a regen with only passive / toggle.

Now it's not really the point to compare only this, till top of that WP got soem resist / def that will grant even more mitigation and regen got a lot of other power to play with.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know.
This guy is wrong (on the base value) not mid.
  16. Hello,

    Katana isn't an AE set.

And buils wise, there's not a lot of place for flashing steel.

For me good ae set are : claw or spine coupled with dark or fire.
    and the outsider : fire/sd/fire.

Now kat is a strong and fun set to play, if you like it it perhaps you should look toward a kat/dark combo

I'll tinker with the build some more after I get home. Definitely taking Parry and Slice at first for leveling, though I can see where, with the /SD defense debuff resist, it might be possible to drop Parry later (unlike WP which has no such resist and benefits more from having that buffer).

How late in the game can I wait on things like Tough and Weave? Is Grant Cover a must-have since it doesn't self buff?

Is Body Mastery strictly necessary for the regens, or is it possible further down the road (with enough funding) to manage End without requiring Conserve Power and Physical Perfection?
You dont take parry for the deff debuff but for the def buff !
You will be able to drop parry when you will be at 45% positionnal def in mele via invention set.

For the other question i would say, lvl your toon first then begin to think to an io'ed build.
the only invention set that you should look after during leveling are the unique that give +recovery (numina and miracle one's) and the steadfast +3% def
  18. Hello Guys,

With the new change of the 2 sets, i'm rolling a new scrapper.

But i've got a hard time to know wich invention bonus i should look for ?

I've played, back in the days, a FA tanker and i remember that healing flame was really needed to survive.

So i'm guessing that i should take hasten and pump out some +rech.

But what else after ? Should i go for some positionnal def in the 20's, or just go for S/L def ?

An other question is, due to the low endurance cost of MA, might i could skip consume easily ?
  19. I wouldn't say it's needed, but it give so mush to SR in so few power, that this pool is really worth it.

    Slotting wise :
    3-4 slot weave => 56+% def + 33+% endRed
Though => +3%def from SteadFast Protection set ... then it's up to you, but no more than 4 slot in it.

Then if you take Combat jumping that's a net : +11%def and up to 17% Res to S/L (the most common domage).

From here 2 solutions : you take manoeuvre / stealth to soft cap or you find around +3% in all postion via invention set
  20. I will never roll a brute, because i can't stand the fury system.

Top of that we have now, for the tanker, all the shield + weapon so i've no raison at all to roll a brute.
  21. I think you will change your mind when you will try it.

Focus is a really nice attack in the claw set and change this for a loosy attack like LBE it's a sacrilege
  22. If you want to be resiliant from start play a sword set that's all, else you will have to wait more or less depending of your secondary set before being able to solo withotu realling to much on inspiration.
  23. If you have the steadfast +3% you don't need something else to soft cap your /SR.

    Just :
    - 3 slot def all your def power (but not CJ, only 1 def)
    - take weave
    - take manoeuvre

    And you are softcapped.
  24. Nemeros

    Help on Kat/DA

But what do you want to do with your scrapper ?

You need first to know this to be able to make a build.

Here there's no main direction, you are putting set that don't synergize between em.
