Quote:I still find it strange that you confuse repetition-reinforced pattern recognition with elitism. I don't expect those that are new to these trials to know where the things are, but, after 20 or so attempts (probably low by a factor of at least 5 per side for me by now) I've just happened to memorize where these static spawns are, and generally know which ones get skipped over on the "average" team's routes. I'm far from elite in these skills, since I still make wrong turns inside Aeon's lab in the STF, but I do tend to think that I have at least the learning skills of the average laboratory mouse running through a set maze.I still find it strange that obviously elite players such as yourselves still find it hard to understand that not everyone can play this game as well as you can.
I'm not saying I've personally had any more difficulty with this portion of this trial than you have. But at least I'm willing to accept the likelihood that the people you and I tend to play with are far more experienced with this game than the "average" player. -

It looks like the plan was just to award it for the Freedom server event. I can get why they were going for that, since Freedom is the most populated server, in general. It's the same reason that the name collision for globals due to the server list merge favors the NA accounts. The fact that it is inconveniencing to a far greater number of people than the global collision issue, since Freedom's population is only (assuming here based on census snapshots that players have run) the largest plurality of all NA servers is a good reason why this badge, as we were originally told it would be awarded, is really a bad idea. It also breeds a feeling that they are favoring the most-popular server by giving this badge out for attending their event, which will likely be the exact same event that every other server will have already had.

For me and my friend above, it was Infinity server. Mine was on Sunday April 24th, and my friend's was on Monday, April 25th. Early evening for both.

I had it happen once, and a friend reported it once.

Quote:Forget just Mission Architect, I'd make the whole game like this. No experience for directly defeating mobs, instead having all experience come from objective completion.* Mission Architect with a map editor and no XP from mob defeats. On arc completion, reward the players with a big chunk of XP based on how long they took to finish the mission and the time they were actually active within it.
This would mean that you would have to have enough objectives available to get the player from start to level cap right at launch.
I would also design the objectives differently. You could still beat up whatever amount of mobs were necessary to complete the objective, but there would be alternatives for stealthiness, control and whatever else, or a mixture of all of them. This would cater to different classes, powersets and playstyles, and allow people to play their characters closer to their own concepts.
Aside from that, no level restrictions on costume parts, or on travel abilities, and probably a better integration of travel abilities, movement and environment with a character's powers. -
Likely Infinity, as there was a VG there that hosted an event of opening up their leftover IoP for raids. I hosted a handful of Freedomites for a stay for that, including Turgenev.

Quote:I'm to the point where, even if I die halfway through and spend some time coming back, I can predict which ones haven't been hit by the time I return.Sorry to say this but each time I ran the requirements for these badges, when the league entered only one side or the other, we had well over a minute left on the timer when we collected all 10 temps, so yeah it's not hard at all when you have 2 teams rushing the objectives.
I've done it 4 times now and each time was very easy and the teams were normal team makeup no min macing on these runs and all went perfectly fine. All you need is 2 people that know where the objectives are. And by now many should know where they are. -
Quote:The base time is 5 minutes. It even tells you that when you start. You can increase it by up to 9 minutes, since the 10th dual assault ends the phase. You end up getting half of the objects in a little over a third of the time, but with double the firepower concentrated on that half of the objects. They might be marginally more difficult.Beef, I think the reasoning is that getting just 10 acids or just 10 temps can cut your sabotage time down significantly.
You are awarded extra time during the sabotage phase for "dual assault", which I understand to mean that you have at least 1 container and 1 crate destroyed. If you only do containers or only crates (or do all containers first, then crates), you will not be awarded extra time. And the base amount of time is around 180 seconds to get 10 objects.
For some reason, the Devs thought it was harder to get 10 objects in 3 mins (twice!) than it was to defeat a massive bag of HP with 100% S/L resistance and unstoppable. It sounds like the psi trick is out of the bag, which might make Marauder trivial, but still, it's a weird design. -
Quote:Of course he's not part of the magical backstory, but An Unnatural Order at the very least leads us to believe that that Will of the Earth (if we assume that it is not the same Will of the Earth that Hamidon used on himself, which it might well be), if not the original Will of the Earth that Hamidon used on himself, requires mystics to create, as well as scientists. Either that, or the Devouring Earth are very amused by card tricks and Tarot readings. In all honesty, there aren't many details about exactly what happened during Hamidon's actual transformation. Tanya tells us virtually nothing, and she appears to be oblivious to the details of what the Will of the Earth even was.I went and checked that. I still see the origin of the Will of the Earth as the same thing as what I saw it in the Terra Conspiracy - a sentient bacteria. The only thing in there which hints at magic is that the Devouring Earth kidnapped a bunch of Mystics, but I couldn't find any evidence of what they actually wanted out of the mystics. If you're referring to the fact that the Will of the Earth is psychic, then yes, it is. But as we said before - that's not necessarily magical.
And again - the one time the Hamidon was described as magical was when someone goofed, and that was later changed. Is it possible that magic is somehow involved? Possibly. However, that does not make the Hamidon a source or repository of magic, nor does it make anything related to him a large part of magical history.
The Elder God story (written by BaB before we really had interacted with him, but apparently with details provided by Positron) was obviously wrong, because it completely contradicted the established story of Hamidon having been a human who changed himself. There being at least a magical component to his transformation does have some basis in game lore that has existed since the beginning, the Devouring Earth using mystics in some capacity to (re?)create the Will of the Earth in that arc that chronologically takes place before the Terra Conspiracy arc, and might be happening right alongside the break-in in which Hamidon Pasalima transforms himself. The Devouring Earth are a post-Rikti War threat, after all, which pushes their creation to near the game's launch, and possibly during the time that our characters are gaining their levels. -
Quote:In reality, they traded server lag for network lag. The change to buff reporting for leagues dramatically reduced network lag if you turned them off, but something in that fix increased server lag. Now that they disabled the buff sending change, the network lag is back, but the server lag has decreased somewhat, so it's only really noticeable during things like the escapee phase.Short answer is they didn't. What they basically did was reverse a change they made in the last patch which made the lag even worse. So the alg should be back to the level it was prior to the last patch.
Both situations are bad, and I hope that there can be some solution that allows people with somewhat more limited bandwidth to not get lag-related crashes while also keeping the things from becoming time-dilated. -
As things currently stand, you won't get a second summon. Every mob that comes through the portals that isn't defeated, and the proximity of up to 16 people firing off AoEs will cause significant server slowdown, which will lengthen the real world time that the Seers are out, but also lengthen the recharge on them by the same factor.
When we ran this successfully, we had the group that finished first with the sabotage all come outside to right where he would spawn, except for 1 who went off and got purposely killed for Vengeance, who was then recalled outside to the group. When the other group got down to 1 object left, all but 2 of them came outside, 1 of those 2 died and was recalled out for Vengeance for the other team, and the other then popped the last object. Depending on how heavy your team is on level shifts, exotic damage, Seer pets and debuffs, every second that you can save counts.
The server lag also increases the duration of his Unstoppable, or so it seemed. -
Quote:This bug dates back to launch, or at the latest Issue 1. It happens with non-arc missions in the 30s on Hero side. It isn't rare, and I've encountered it on literally every hero that I have taken through those levels. I seem to also recall a couple of missions in the 20s that would repeat from different contacts, as well.I suspect a recent bug, as someone else mentioned having two Morality missions - one vanished when the other was done.
Now, an actual arc repeating, like Master-Blade mentioned, is something that I've never had happen, except for Mender Ramiel when I switched sides. Even that's not exactly the same, since you get sent to Statesman or Recluse depending on which version you run. -
Bah. wasn't sure about that one. Knew I'd get something wrong.

This does put a new spin on the opening part of the last storyline in the Top Cow comics, where War Witch asks how Positron is coming along on making her flesh and blood again. At the time, I thought that it might have been an experiment to get his own body restored, now I think it might have been a test run to get his girlfriend back to a corporeal state.

Big told me last night that it's eventually going to be down to people soloing them. There's already a duo Lambda post out there. I have some doubts about being able to evenly distribute the damage on 2 level 54 AVs solo and get them down within 10 seconds of each other in the time limit, though.

Quote:Many mystical telepaths exist in Marvel and DC. The Enchantress even called Professor X's telepathy clumsy when he tried to use it on her during Secret Wars. Doctor Strange and other mystics communicate via telepathy. I think most players tend to think of Psi and mutation as linked because of Sister Psyche and the Origin of Power arc, but that kind of generalization completely disregards Numina. But my Mind/Psi Dom is Science Origin. :/
I think that pigeonholing psychics/psions into a Mutant or Natural origin is an unhealthy behavior. I can only imagine that it stems from people trying to compare the CoH universe to the Marvel/DC universes.
Speaking of Numina, Diabolique is both Praetorian and almost-certainly magical.
Oh, and Sam, go and do the An Unnatural Order arc again, or just read the clues and other text on ParagonWiki. You might be surprised at the origin of the Will of the Earth. -
I know about half of the globals off the top of my head.
Big SOB (twice)
Me
Bane
Mr DJ on Solis Knight
Cigam Nogard on Anex Roirraw
Tundra Ghost is Sir Giles, I'm pretty sure.
A couple of other Pink people.
By all means, everyone speak up, though. -
Big SOB on 2 Accounts. I'm calling it 11.
Have a look.
We'll be pushing for a real 11 man eventually.

Quote:The Shield is there for new characters on my account. It's an oversight in the description only.It includes most of the weapons - even says so in the initial post (Have it unlocked on my lvl 8 scrap). But it *never* said shields. Maybe they want to keep that one purchasable.
Kinda bothers me that my first account got the goodies and my second one did not. Both have been billed recurringly through CC since Jan.
Edit: The Seven stars Chest Detail is listed as Star 16, in case anyone missed it in there like I did the first time through. -
I had my first reports of Threads rewards come up just a bit ago. 2 of the 16 on our BAF reported them. A Mastermind and a Dominator. I know they were active during it, but the game seemed to differ on that. If this system is penalizing them with the inactivity reward, it is in error. If the system brings up a 10 threads reward as a possible outcome of participation, then at least that part of the system is broken.

Quote:It bit a friend of mine on a League that I was leading tonight, too. This is a nasty bug that needs to die as quickly as possible. I'm beginning to wonder just how common it is.Well, I should be on a Lamba right now, but I'm not, because the prompt appeared for a second then vanished before I had a chance to click.
I did have time to complain about it in League before they all went in and I got booted, so at least I won't be counted among the "can't click a stupid button" brigade, but I'm still annoyed. -
Just wanted to express my thanks for this guide. Once you get people used to it, the "run the gauntlet" style of handling the Escapees works great.

My bad. I can remember a relatively obscure Roman leader, but not which of my friends handed back the star. It was the nearly-naked one. <smacks forehead>
Yes, MISH, Cincinnatus was rather the exception among Romans given dictatorial power. Sulla and Marius were among the worst, but even Julius Caesar, who made a lot of very good reforms, could be seen as the opposite of Cincinnatus, in that his whole life was a quest to achieve and maintain power.
As far as Escapees go, I'm thinking of trying the zone defense method I've seen in a guide or two around here. Instead of splitting everyone up to every spawn door, do a 1/3-2/3 split on the Northern path and Southern path. Controls, patch powers, traps/devices and force bubblers to eliminate minions, and damage types to spike Lts. I've heard good things about it.
