Quote:Oh yeah, NCSoft isn't going to let you have anything named wolverine at all. Like I said earlier, they take a shotgun to the issue.Go make two characters-- one incorporating the name Valkyrie that doesn't resemble the Marvel Valkyrie, and one incorporating the name Wolverine that doesn't resemble the Marvel Wolverine. Vicki Valkyrie and the Blue Wolverine. Watch which one gets genericed like lightning.
The Marvel Wolverine also has reached the point of fame and being an iconic character where even just using the name in comics will bring up an infringement case on the grounds of consumer confusion. If you make a comic book about an actual wolverine, the animal, and call it "Wolverine Comics", then you'll get sued to change it. There's no question about that.
You could still probably make a comic about an actual wolverine and call it "Incredible Nature Comics" or whatnot. -
Quote:No, he'll stick around if you run out of endurance. He just lasts 4 minutes is all.Are we sure? I haven't paid THAT much attention to mine, but I always figured it meant that if you run out of endurance, Fluffy goes away until summoned again.
That text is just flavor text from once upon a time. -
Quote:Yeah, I've been noticing the same thing. Malta tend to be less diverse than usual these days. I've run a few missions that had nothing but Operations Engineers in it.Been fighting a lot of malta the last few nights as I close in on 50 with my brute, and it's been very weird to see how few sappers show up these days.
I had one mission last night that was a HUGE base map with multiple levels: 2 sappers the entire mission. We used to get them every spawn.
Really, though, I don't find anything in this game more challenging than a Master Illusionist. This is on my Rad/Dark Corr and Dark/Rad Defender. -
Quote:It's not just the name, it's the way it's depicted in mythology as well. If someone had a character named Valkyrie that didn't resemble the mythological Valkyries, then they can trademark it and have a case against anyone that copies that specific Valkyrie. They would not have a case against anyone using a Valkyrie as depicted in mythology.I still don't understand how this is any different than trademarking the word wolverine, which is not only the name of an animal species that has no legal representation, but also the name of many, many high school sports teams, including one that repelled a Russian invasion of U.S. soil.
Sadly, this sort of thing always seems to boil down to who has the scariest lawyers.
A Wolverine is an animal, but Marvel's Wolverine is really nothing like that animal. Thus, it is clearly distinct. They can take you to court if you copy their specific Wolverine, but they would not have a case against you if you used the name for, really, anything else. Nobody could have a case against you if you used the animal. -
This is roughly the order in which I did my Rad/Dark. I wouldn't bother changing it unless you're going to spend a lot of time exemplaring to some specific levels. I mostly made those notes for people who look at this post and want to level their own Rad/Dark from level 1.
1: Neutrino Bolt
1: Twilight Grasp
2: X-Ray Beam
4: Tar Patch
6: Darkest Night
8: Electron Haze
10: Swift
12: Irradiate
14: Health
16: Shadowfall
18: Cosmic Burst
20: Stamina
22: Fearsome Stare
24: Hover
26: Neutron Bomb
28: Flight
30: Aim
32: Howling Twilight (tell your teammates not to die until now)
35: Atomic Blast
38: Dark Servant
41: Dark Embrace
44: Soul Drain
47: Proton Volley (mostly for Sting of the Manticore set bonuses)
49: Power Boost
I couldn't tell you my entire slotting off the top of my head. I know that Electron Haze and Neutron Bomb have Posi's blast with a recharge IO replacing the proc, ditto with Irradiate and Obliteration. Then I've got some dampened spirits in Darkest Night and Dark Servant. I've also got Glimpse of the Abyss in Fearsome Stare with a ToHit Debuff replacing the proc.
I plan on putting apocalypse in Cosmic Burst (the proc goes into Neutrino Bolt), but I don't quite have the money to do that quite yet. Maybe once AE farms are nerfed the purple market will come back. -
Quote:The names and likenesses of Atlas and Valkyrie cannot be trademarked as they are from mythology.too late he was forced to change the name however he feels that Nc soft needs to change THEIR infringed names as well Atlas and Valkerie
Anyways, NCSoft tends to err on the side of caution when it comes to player characters. Your actions could possibly cause them to infringe, and they don't want you to be taking any risks for them. They could spend a lot of time and money determining what the case for infringement would be for each and every character that gets reported, but that's not really feasible. They instead take a shotgun to the issue.
When it comes to their own characters, however, they take whatever risks they want to. With those characters, they do spend time and money determining if a case could be made for infringement. Thus, they give themselves more courtesy. -
Quote:Since the recharge formula is as follows:OK, then I guess the recharge required to get Neutrino Blot that low would be very high. Impossibly high I imagine.
Final Recharge = Base/1+bonus
It'd have to be infinity, yes.
Realistically, don't bother slotting it for recharge. Just get some recharge bonuses from sets and whatnot (Posi's Blast and Sting of the Manticore help). Use Neutrino Bolt's six slots for procs and maybe some damage/acc. I recommend getting two Damage/Acc IOs and filling the rest with procs (I've got Touch of Lady Grey, Apocalypse, Shield Breaker and Achilles' Heel in mine). -
It also works well with Soul Drain from Ghost Widow's PPP. The entirety of Rad/Dark works well with Soul Drain, actually
Also, I just noticed that Errant's build (I don't have mids, so I can't check the OP's build) doesn't get Fearsome Stare until level 30. That is sheer craziness. It should be a tough pick between Stamina and Fearsome Stare at level 20. It also features Cosmic Burst at later than 18, which is equal amounts of craziness.
Level 18 should always be Cosmic Burst
Level 20 should be either stamina or fearsome stare
Level 22 should be whichever one you didn't get at 20
I usually put off my travel power until later, relying on the raptor pack and jump pack you get from mayhem missions in order to fit Tar Patch, Darkest Night, Shadowfall (a very important low-level tool), Hurdle/Swift, Health, Stamina, Irradiate, Electron Haze, Cosmic Burst, Fearsome Stare, and maybe other things in. It's a tight build before you get to 30. -

Defenders are fun.
Corruptors are fun.
Warshades are fun.
Everything else is boring. -
It's a horrible power, actually. You won't find a worse hold in anything but Patron/Ancillary Pools. For Rad Blast/Dark Miasma, Cosmic Burst fills in for it quite nicely. You'll never miss it.
-
They would be if Dark Servant didn't have a debuff aura around him at all times, thus aggroing everything he so much as passes by.
Once upon a time, he decided to jump down to the bottom of the sewer trial when everyone was still at the top. Realizing his mistake, he walked all the way back up. -
Quote:It works well enough with Tar Patch, Fluffy and DN. I've never had a problem with it. You don't count on it for mitigation. Electron Haze is the best AoE in an AoE-heavy set, you only have enough AoEs when you have all 3 (sans nuke). The cone is definitely not a problem, especially after slotting with Positron's Blast.EH does KB, which I'd see not really working well with Tar Patch, Fluffy, and DN... But, Your mileage may very. Also, with the 30+ defense vs. Ranged, you shouldn't need the extra mitigation, and you've got enough AoE from Irradiate and NB. Plus, you can drop those from within melee in the mob, instead of needing to jump out for the cone.
Electron Haze is an awesome power, and there are no good reasons to not get it. -

I propose we create a list of all the powers that are using pets or pseudo-pets that are using inappropriate values for the AT they're being used by. These really need to be fixed. They've been let stand for far too long and create some ridiculous outliers in overall powerset and AT balance.
Specify the AT, the powerset, and the power. Also feel free to provide details as to how the modifier being used is inappropriate. I'll start us off:
Corruptor >> Dark Miasma >> Tar Patch: Is using the Defender version at -30% res instead of the expected -22.5% res.
Mastermind >> Dark Miasma >> Tar Patch: Is using the Defender version at -30% res instead of the expected -22.5% res.
Corruptor >> Dark Miasma >> Dark Servant: Is using the Defender version, all -ToHit and -Dmg values are 33% higher than expected.
Mastermind >> Dark Miasma >> Dark Servant: Is using the Defender version. All -ToHit and -Dmg values are 66% higher than expected. -
Quote:I'm taking it from the angle of "if they're changing it, then they might as well get it right."This thread keeps getting stupider every time I read it.
Don't like the change? Avoid freakshow. I'm still gonna be plowing through them and getting X amount of XP while I do so.
This change is FAR TOO FARKING SMALL for it to be raising this kind of a stink.
Want to talk about REAL risk/time vs reward problems in the game? Go run a Hamidon raid and get back to me.
Can not believe people are bent out of shape about this. Farking pathetic. -
Maybe they looked at the Champions Online Preview Beta and decided to call it the Preview Test Server.

Quote:No, MM debuffs are fairly consistently lower than that of Controllers and Corruptors. Their buffs seem to be equal.Controllers, Corruptors and MMs share (almost) the same values for their buff/debuff modifiers because they both have the buff/debuff category as their secondary.
MM debuffs (doesn't include slows, those have a separate modifier) are usually at 0.6 of a Defender's debuff value, though they sometimes go lower (to 0.5 at its lowest). There are very few exceptions.
Most of the exceptions are in powers that summon a pet since pets don't automatically adhere to AT modifiers. In order to change their values, a new pet has to be created alongside a new power to summon the new pet. The reason MMs simply have a higher endurance cost on their powers is probably laziness/time constraints as a quick way to effect "balance". This means powers like Tar Patch and Disruption Arrow work at full strength when they really, really shouldn't (really).
The only exception to this that doesn't involve pseudo-pets is the -Res on Acid Arrow. The -Def in the same power is at the expected 0.6 of a Defender's value. -
Or you can just earn one by either crafting the recipe for it or doing the respec trial.
I don't think anyone does the trial any more, though. It's been so long since I've seen people doing it ;_; -
The program may have been creating a very noticeable amount of traffic and/or server load. Remember that the search feature on this forum is limited because of how much CPU time it takes up.

I thought Arachnos also had a higher XP modifier. I could always be wrong, of course.
Tsoo definitely deserve to be 1.2, with Sorcs being worth extra. They've got control spewing forth from all orifices, varied and powerful bosses, and an actual effective support unit.
For being found in the same level range as the Freakshow, the Tsoo are definitely the more dreaded villain group.
Castle's 3rd point is rather weak, however. Yes, we can get 200% XP off of them 20% of the time, but we still do need to beat them down yet again for it. That point really doesn't go one way or the other. It's pretty neutral.
They probably should be worth just as much as everything else. I mean, they do have dull pain. -
I never really got why the Freakshow gave out more experience than other groups. They're not really any tougher than other groups. In fact, they've always been easier for me since my characters tend to deal energy damage.
I would much rather fight Freakshow than Vahz or Arachnos. -
Yeah, I think it's a bit of a slap in the face that the top tier powers of our primary are less effective than their counterparts, which are found in secondary sets.
I don't care that Defenders aren't supposed to do as much damage.
Primary > Secondary > Pool
You can't say "well you're good at buffing, not damage" and then give us damage powers in our primary set, a set that are supposed to be full of what we're good at. -
